A common misconception is that the world where the events of EQg happened is a reflection of Earth, but, as previously stated, it is not.

Yes, it is true that the culture, technology and lack of magic is pretty similar to our world, but the reality is that the world is a reflection of Equis, containing all sapient creatures that live there as humans. You can even say that the relation between the two dimensions are essential for both.

That being said, because of the lack of magic, and the differences of culture born because of this, many "reflection" of Equestrian characters may have different personalities, back-stories and ideals - but everyone has a counterpart (alive or not).

And these differences come in many forms— First, the world is not named Equis, but Terra; and the countries, geography, rulers and form of governments are equally different. Religions are another difference from Earth, seeing that the EQg is close linked to Equis (dimensionally speaking), many of their religions are similar to them, and that's the reason why the majority of countries are polytheist – and we haven't even started to talk about the times the mirror was used, and the goals of those who did it.
