A Friends Kindness

It was early in the morning that Showscape awoke to the sunshine penetrating through her curtains and onto her pillow where she rested her head. She could tell it was going to be a bright beautiful day with plenty of sun to play in with her best friends. She lazely dragged herself out of bed and into the bathroom to brush her teeth, she made sure to keep herself clean so as to be polite to everypony she would encounter later that day. Showscape's mind raced with fun ideas her friends and her could do, Maybe the park. She could pack a picnic, although I cant cook she thought as she sighed and took a gulp of water to slosh around in her mouth before spitting out the mixture of toothpaste and saliva into the sink and down the drain. What could I do, i'm no good at sports, I cant draw and I definitely cannot cook anything without it being burnt to a crisp. The filly recalled the last time she had tried to make apple porridge, this little feat of hers did not go over that well. She was half way down the stairs before she tripped on her own hooves and her own force quickly propelled her down the stairs and onto the floor with a satisfying bang. The filly was use to this kind of thing happening to her, its as if she was a walking bad luck magnet, Even her friends knew not to stand to close in case of an accident occurring. Anywhere within a radius of 2 feet was considered a hazard zone, As to why she was so clumsy, This trait was passed down from her grandfather on her fathers side of the family tree. Conveniently it just so happened to skip her father and head straight for her. An athletic cutie mark was out of the question, showscape didn't mind though, she knew what kind of cutie mark she wanted.

"Showscape, breakfast is ready!" Boke had called up to his daughter but was surprised to find her hobbling her way into the kitchen at a turtles running pace. The stallion looked down upon the filly in the door way with a look that said 'I'm trying so hard not to laugh right now' but he soon had this under control and went over to see if she was okay.

"You hurt anywhere dear?" He had started to pickup each of her legs and inspect them for any injuries.

"No father, just a few bruises, gravity decided that it wanted to strike early this morning while I was still half asleep on my way down the stairs." Showscape let her father finish looking at her then walked over to the table and waited for her food. The flowers in the base looked as if the winter frost had gotten to them and drained the color from their very essence.

"Father shouldn't we get new flowers for the base? These ones look dead" She pointed to the colorless flowers occupying the center of the table. Her father simply glanced over to them for a brief moment and went back to dishing up there strawberry and cabbage porridge, He placed a steaming bowl in front of the filly who returned the smile he gave her with a disgusted cringe.

"Showscape, you know that if you do not eat your breakfast that there will be no friends today right young lady? Besides its good for you, this will give you plenty of energy for the whole afternoon." The filly was not buying what he was saying for one instance, how could something so good look so terrible and un-edible, not to mention the smell that it gave off. Yet she swallowed the instincts of avoiding such things her father would cook and tried to devour it as quickly as possible as to not taste as much of it. Lets face it, her father made the weirdest foods ever, pineapple and carrot pancakes, hay fries with a strawberry and lime dipping sauce. If only grandpa hadn't taught father how to cook, these odd recipes could have been avoided. Downing the last of her strawberry and cabbage porridge showscape almost gagged her self to death on the way out the door.

"Hey, be back before 5 okay?" Boke called through the frame of the door in the direction of his daughter. Shook his head and continued with his daily routines.

Showscape ran as fast as her legs would take a filly her size across the small town she lived in. Rivington was a small and peaceful country side town, as the name suggests the town was located near a large river used for trade routes of produce or almost anything you needed really. The filly was on her way to the river side market to meet up with her friend migumi. Migumi had promised to help her write a song when she had told her that she would be partaking in the talent show. The excitement almost filled the air all around her as the market and the river came into view, even from so far away she could see her friends long curly orange mane tied up into huge poofy pig tails on each side of her head. The most distinguishable feature besides the ungodly amount of hair on her head was her pure white coat with the blue bubbly markings she had on her ears and her hooves. She was such a strange little filly, the thing that made even less sense was the fact that her parents and grandparents had not been white or any color near white for a long time. Trying to make logic out of a unicorns coat and mane were harder than it looked, magic was a strange thing so it was better not to argue and just go with it.

"Showscape!" Migumi yelled and started to sprint towards her best friend. They collided with one another after showscape had decided to pounce on her poor friend. They rolled quite a ways until migumi was ontop of showscape, when migumi could open her eyes after the huge dizzy spell that lasted for nearly 3 minutes after how far they had rolled, ontop of her overly prone ways of getting dizzy the rolling didn't help. She had looked down at her best friend she had been resting ontop of and blushed heavily as soon as she realised her position from the view point of passer byes looking at them. Luckily showscape was too dull to realise that her friend might have been sweet on her for some time, and that this was the reason for her insane amount of blushing rather than the embarrassment. Migumi still blushing proceeded on getting off of her friend.

Showscape picked herself off the ground and was jumping up and down due to her normal bubbly attitude she always seemed to have around her friends. "Migumi are you ready to help me with my song lyrics? I need a realllllllly good song so that I can win the talent show! My mom might be able to go so I want this song to be realllllly special!" the filly could not seem to keep her self still, the excitement was pouring from her like buckets of water being scooped out of a sinking boat in the middle of the ocean.

Migumi smiled and giggled a bit before answering her friends over enthusiastic request. "Of course, what are friends for lets get started right away!" with this they ran straight to the park and took residence under the oldest oak tree in town, migumi knew how much her friend loved oak tree's, especially this one in particular. With the cool shade to hide them from the harsh afternoon sun, they wrote and wrote and wrote until the sun almost touched the top of the far side of the bakery, but with little to no success on either of their parts.

The two friends were a bit discouraged and disheartened by their lack of creativity. "I'm sorry showscape, I tried my best but coming up with lyrics that are suppose to be special is really hard when you cant see what the other person has seen about the person your writing about." Showscape bumped up against her friend and laughed. "Oh migumi its okay cause its not your fault, besides i'm sure I will think of something when I get home or later tonight." She gave her filly friend a huge warm smile. Migumi blushed and looked up at the sky with a huge smile on her face as well. "Well I wish you the best of luck, but you have to promise that as soon as your done with it I will be the first person to hear you sing it, got it?" Migumi closed her eyes and smiled at showscape. "You got a deal migumi" the two split up at the cross roads and walked home separately. The sun set just below the tree line by the time showscape finally entered her house and closed the door.
