//-------------------------------------------------------// Oasis Matrix - Modern Family -by ColtKit Productions- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch1 - Growing Family //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch1 - Growing Family • POV: S'mouth. I suppose I should have been suspicious... Metagamer kept taking herself offline from our Hive Mind... but honestly I figured she just wanted some... privacy, with her boyfriend. I mean, just cuz I was asexual, didn't mean she was... as embarrassing a thought that was. My point is, I hadn't realized she had been discussing something that concerns me, with her partner. Maybe because I don't entertain "paranoid" ideas. At least not without panicking that my chip might be malfunctioning. Whatever I said, right here, would determine my entire future. Possibly the Stability of my Hive Mind... whatever I said here. Either by Accepting or even rejecting her proposal... would change... everything... so why couldn't I think of a single thing to say. "S'mouth?" I heard her call my name, but I continued to sit there... frozen... She had come to visit me, in my house on the Wizarding Furs Map Grid. She asked if she could visit me, and like always I said "yes". After all, it wasn't that uncommon, that my Asari counterpart visited me in person. Or any of my Counterparts really. We already operated as a tight net family... this would just make it official... which was... "Don't you think this is a little weird?" I eyed her. "I mean, we're part of the same hive mind... you're basically asking to adopt yourself?" She rolled her eyes at me, "We may share a subconscious, but we are very different people. For example, I wouldn't have put it as rudely as that." I blushed, quickly looking down at the floor. "Sorry," I began nervously pawing at the ground, with my hooved leg. That's the thing. The implant I have, to treat schizophrenia... Well, when it was combined with the last generation of the Oasis... it kinda... fractured my personality. The technologies reacted badly with each other, and although they eventually were able to add a software update, to balance the personalities... There were still 6 versions of me, each a different aspect of my personality. As well as totally independent and truly self aware. It was like getting reincarnated a bunch of times, only we all shared the same body. In truth I wasn't even that, as those original 6 personalities were trapped in our hub world. They sent out copies of themselves, into each MMO they enjoyed. From there, we copies recorded and transmitted everything we saw and experienced, through a "Hive Mind". I was technically just an AI, although a perfect copy of my original. And AIs did have the same rights as humans. In this virtual reality they had permanently installed their bodies into. Earth kinda died and the humans thought hooking themselves into pods, connected to a super computer, was the only way to save the species. Few players had implants. And those that did were either the Original programmers, who were basically a council of god Kings and Queens, and Administrators. Which were pretty much the Sheriff and deputies of our virtual universe. New implants, like the ones the Programmers have, are better designed to intentionally create hive minds. Although they don't split your soul apart. Instead, they allowed for a copy of yourself to exist in various MMOs, and programming levels. Which are controlled by the subconscious, while being a perfect recreation of the individuals personality. Metagamer sighed, forcing me out of my own internal ramblings. My mind tends to wander... especially when I'm nervous. "I know you want a guardian. And I have practically been raising you already. Along with Sodaroo and The Haunted Child. I've talked about this at length with them, and they wouldn't mind being your uncles. "Besides, Aech and I have been wanting to get Parzival a little brother, one that won't freak out the two are on the Programmer's council. "I... have school here." "I know," Metagamer nodded, "And you don't have to worry about transfering, or us trying to interfere with your duties as a Deputy, we can hang out afterwards." I fidgeted, could I really do this? She was basically me, or rather, an aspect of me... it be so weird. "What's your boyfriend think about this?" I dared ask. She smiled at me, "My 'husband' is eager to meet you." I fidgeted more... At the same time she was speaking with me, other versions of her were having similar talks, with other versions of me. The others in the hive mind were snickering, but still sending out waves of encouragement. As one, all the mez finally said. "I... I guess we could try it... for a little while... see how things go..." Meta shook her head, before reaching out and ruffling my mane. "It's so cute when you stutter in Stereo." I blushed, "You talk in Stereo too... sometimes..." She gave me a light pat. Then, to let me feel better about myself, all the her's began speaking. "I'll call my husband, and arrange a play date between you and Parzival." I blushed deeper, while the Muskys and Koles laughed at me. • • POV: Parzival. Everything in this village was so colorful!!! EVERYTHING!!! It hurt my eyes to be surrounded by so much PINK. There were hundreds of pink houses, with straw roofs, and girly shops, looking out of a toy catalogue. Aech and I quickly exited the "Tele-Booth" and walked onto the street, just to be assaulted by color We were a few city blocks away from my new brother's place... that meant we had to walk the street to get to his house. I was blushing like mad. Knowing I was going to be seen like this. Sure there was nothing wrong with my Buckaroo Banzai outfit (besides the fact Aech made me wear short shorts with it, instead of pants). But it wasn't the clothes I was wearing so much as my Avatar. I was wearing the Avatar I normally did: With the grey skin, wavy white and blue hair, and the blue circuit board tattoos... but this was one of it's duplicate Avatars... Again, that wasn't the issue. It was part of the game that you could have backup Avatars, and even tweek them a little. It was, specifically, the fact Aech made me wear the freaking 7 year old version of me. Yes I normally LIKED being 7, but not in gorram PUBLIC!!! The closest I got was wearing this Avatar at school. But that was a special, high end school, especially for high profile kids, that liked to keep their privacy. Wearing a kid Avatar, in school, was one thing... but this... this was different... I was out in public, in my favorite and most recognizable Avatar... not even any "Clark Kent Glasses" to hide my identity!!! "Aech!" my torment only increased. Walking over was another programmer!!! A dark blue winged unicorn, with a crescent moon as her butt sticker. She was just a foot shy of the 7 foot Cyborg. Her Avatar let her shift between Pony, Anthro, and Human forms of the character "Princess Luna". Some people preferred to get Avatars of Canon characters. There was a bit of a stigma about that, but most people didn't actually care... beyond thinking the people who used such Avatars were huge fanboys and fangirls.... which in Hannah's case... may be pretty accurate. Though the public at large made an exception for her... as they tended to think of her as truly the "Divine Alicorn" she wore. Given she was a programmer, and all but demanded she be allowed to fulfill all duties, an AI of the pony would have had. "Hello Princess Luna." Aech smiled at her, while I hid behind his leg. Hoping she wouldn't recognize me. Aech's Avatar was a giant... even with my 7 year old Avatar, I felt like a flipping toddler next to him... it didn't help his Hub World, which we shared, was designed to be proportional to him. "What brings you here?" Luna grinned, "Didn't really think you were one for My Little Pony." she pointed out. "Much less this small village of bronies, in the Harry Potter nitch, of Furry World. This place is so obscure, I'm surprised anyone's here at all. Much less 3 Programmers." 3? Damn, she recognized me. "I'm not," Explained Aech, "I was more a transformers kid." Oh that old war. Which was better, 1980s Transformers, or 2010s My Little Pony... many had died in such a bloody conflict. "But my wife's newest Sidekick lives here. He's a deputy at this map's Hogwarts." Luna laughed, "You mean S'mouth? Someone is actually trying to tame a kid who named himself a play on 'Smart Mouth'?" Aech smiled, "I'm sure he's not that bad. I'm actually on my way to introduce him to my son." Luna looked down at me, as if seeing me for the first time... but my appearance, as a little boy, barely phased her. "Parzival?" She nodded. "I was actually wondering about your opinion on all the recent Hacker guilds that popped up?" I blinked, not expecting such a normal topic... well, normal for Programmers, anyway. We were expected to deal with stuff like this. "Hannah." Aech gave a stern look at the blue pony. Though it was not quite a glare, "You know better then to talk business with someone that's wearing a Child's Avatar." Princess Luna looked just as disapprovingly at him, "The kid is obviously uncomfortable. I'm just trying to give him a sense of normality. You shouldn't push him so hard. Just coming to this map is a big step. You need to let the kid set the pace he is comfortable with. You shouldn't expect him to fall in line with the cultural norms of the Little community, the second he agrees to step into it." I just blushed, and went back to hiding behind Aech's leg. Somehow, them arguing over the best way to raise me, wasn't helping me feel less awkward about being out and about. Only Hannah could get away with talking to Aech like that, at least in regards to me. It was considered improper for people to give others advice (without being asked) on how to raise their wards, or even their Sidekicks... but Hannah was so close to Aech, and been involved with the age player community, since before the Dreamscape Helmets. She was a trusted friend to Aech. As she had also been involved in his modding community. Aech sighed, "I have been waiting decades just to adopt him. Now that he's legally mine, I want to get him comfortable with-" he motioned his hand at the scene around us. There were dozens of pony kids running around, with their Caretakers watching nearby... and at least half of the foals were wearing diapers in public... I don't think I could EVER get comfortable with this. I felt horrible, about myself, that I even WANTED to walk around as a kid... I had grown up poor and isolated. My only friends had been in the Oasis... my aunt was great, but she had a long line of hard loving losers. None of those jerk offs had made for a good father figure... but Aech... he was my closest friend. And I never could wrap my head around the idea that he was born a girl... which he really seemed to appreciate. Needless to say, I was mortified when Aech caught me running around in a child's Avatar. Yes the moment I inherited the Oasis, I began introducing new concepts, like mentors being an official relationship status. I changed things to make it so players could adopt other players... but I didn't want anyone to know I set it up like that for personal reasons... that I made it mandatory to wear child Avatars in colleges, all because I WANTED to be able to do it... I was terrified how my best friend would react... but turns out... he kinda loved it... Aech even expressed interest in role playing with me. Stuff like him being my "Daddy" and "getting a letter from school" about how I had been bad... it did suck that most of our Role Plays involved me getting spanked, put in time out, or forced into a diaper (which I hate hate HATE, but Aech could convince me to do anything). Seriously, like all our Role Plays had me getting punished at some point... But they also consisted of us playing with vintage videogames or action figures... playing sports like Quidditch or even something as simple as catch... giving me pretend swimming lessons, or bike lessons... reading me bedtime stories... it was amazing... Then he decided he wanted to be my Mentor. I was more okay with that, as "Sidekicks" were popular even outside age players... but from then on, our games were real... He set up real rules (like a bedtime), which he told me right from the start that if I broke any of them... He would punish me for real. I admit, the idea thrilled me as much as scared me... Those first few months were great... until Art3mis found out. • Flashback Before even the invention of Dreamscape Helmets. I was laying over my best friend's lap, about to recieve a spanking for my messy Lair. The Cyborg was a giant of a man. He was quite literally over 7 feet tall... with my 7 year old body, compared to his sheer height, I felt more like I was a toddler. I fit so perfectly over one leg, with my legs and arms barely dangling over... I was just so freaking tiny in comparison... His very hand was larger then my butt! I was so insanely scared, as I realized just what the size difference meant for my poor bottom.... I was at least glad we were in my lair. He had all his own furniture proportional to himself... so I legitimately felt like a toddler with how big everything was. At least here, everything was normal people size. I still felt tiny... but the right amount of tiny. I couldn't help but squirm in anticipation. My grey backside was about to become very VERY red. "What the hell is going on!?" A voice raged at us. I looked up to see my savior. My first thought was it was the Halliday AI, that sometimes came by my lair to hang out with me. That he had come to rescue me from a tanning... but it turned out to be the last person I wanted to catch me in this situation. Art3mis looked as equally devastated as disgusted. I quickly jumped off Aech's lap, and pulled my shirt down, to cover my front. "This isn't what it looks like!" I yelped. "It's bad enough your cheating on me!" Art3mis screamed. "I'm not!" I tried to explain, but she wasn't hearing it. "But did you have to get in this freaky ass shit!" She glared down at me, and I wilted at the level of revulsion in her eyes. "I should have known something weird was going on with all those bizarre features you sneaked into the Game Mechanics. I should have known it meant you two were god damn Pedophiles!!!" Before I could even get angry that she compared me to something so vile, she put hands to the sides of her head. It happened so quickly I had no time to stop her... she disappeared in a puff of Pixels, having logged out before I could say anything. • End Flashback • Art3mis had come into my lair that day, to surprise me.... or rather, to catch me off guard... she thought I was cheating on her with Aech, ever since my relationship status updated, with him listed as my Mentor... and wanted to confirm her suspicions... what she actually learned was so much weirder... No I wasn't sleeping with Aech. He just wanted a son and I needed a male authority figure... Our fight continued for days after that incident. Where I tried to explain what Aech really was to me... but it just resulted in long drawn out arguments... Unfortunately... I had no answer for her... Aech was... different... he meant a lot to me. It wasn't romantic, in any way, but I couldn't justify it... or even explain it well.... Thankfully Art3mis kept it too herself why she divorced me. She was ashamed to confess she fell in love with a "deviant"... but eventually, as Child Avatars got more accepted... she gained a greater understanding of how those relationships worked... and realized I had been telling the truth. That my relationship with Aech was platonic. It had taken decades for her to understand their wasn't anything sexually deviant about what Aech and I did... yeah it included spankings, and kisses to the cheek, but as time marched on, and age players began to become more popular... partly due to my influence, but mostly due to Aech actively working to make all sorts of fetishes more accepted. Once kids stopped being born, and players started to openly adopt Child Avatars... well it just became common place. Art3mis was still adamant that I should have discussed it with her BEFORE ever agreeing to Aech becoming my "Daddy"... she actually called him my "Daddy". It was very deliberate, to show she better accepted me. However, we never got back together, as too much hurt had been done on both sides... but we did become friends again... eventually... Though for a long time, we couldn't be in the same room without screaming at each other... but that's the thing about immortality, you can't hold a grudge forever. But yeah, we both moved on. I even had other girlfriends, even a few boyfriends, both AI and organic, but nothing stuck... Most of the people I ended up dating were those that were at least willing to use Child Avatars. While most weren't Ageplayers themselves, I did meet them at school. So they were at least more accepting that I had a mentor that spanked me... I tried to be upfront about that to anyone interested in dating me. But, while Aech allowed me to date... I wasn't allowed to... do more mature things. I would get spanked if I so much as jerked off!!! And now... I'm Aech's official Ward... he's my "Tribe Father"... I'm still terrified what people will say... but I admit it's an irrational fear. I'm not stupid. I have noticed how commonplace Ageplayers have become, but it still worries me... I did lose the love of my life when she discovered my lifestyle... it left me with a bit of paranoia about others turning their backs on me... which was stupid. It was public knowledge that the very Programmer we were talking to, was an ageplayer. Princess Luna had even babysat me a bunch of times. "What do you think, Parzival?" Aech suddenly asked me. I blinked, I had been lost in my own thoughts as they discussed me. "uhhhhhhh..." I tried to think of a way out. Aech rolled his eyes as Princess Luna chuckled, "Would you like to have a playdate with my daughter?" She asked. "It might be easier for you if you spent some one on one time with an actual Age player." I blushed... a playdate? That would be pretty cool... though I wondered how talks devolved, from arguing over the best way to raise kids, to setting up a playdate. Regardless I answered "S-sure." as I squirmed. Aech smiled at me, "Keep in mind, if Hannah has to spank, your getting another spanking at home." My blush only deepened, "DAD!!!" I accidentally exclaimed. My face full out exploded once I realized what I said. I even WHINED it!!! The adults just chuckled at me, while Aech ruffled my hair, "Just behave and you won't have to worry about it." I quickly nodded, just wanting this talk to be over. "Anyway," Aech smiled at Princess Luna. "I need to get back to introducing my kids today. Good day Hannah." Calling her by her real name. The two really were that close. Luna smiled, "Good day, Aech." but Luna understood, Aech didn't like his girl name. "It was nice catching up with you. We really need to meet outside of work more often. Bye Bye." She spread her wings and flew into the air. • POV: Smart Mouth I was panicking as I ran around my condo. Going back and forth, from room to room, grabbing various accessories to make myself look nicer. As I passed Metagamer, for the 10th or 12th time (I lost count), she snagged my arm and made me stand still in front of her. "There is no need to be so nervous." She insisted, as she pulled out a brush... one that is frequently applied to my backside. Luckily she began running it through my mane, instead of across my bottom. "Meta!!!!" I whined, "Your ruining my hair!!!!" "You wanna look nice, don't you?" was all Meta said, as she brushed me. I just sighed but did my best to stay still. "I need to put my pants on." I tried to reason. I was running around in my training pants. They were bright pink, with little Daleks printed all over them. They definitely weren't diapers, just pullups. I had to wear them to bed, because I had set my "Settings" to "Bedwetter". "You had your chance," Meta insisted, "I told you to get ready an hour ago. Now, I will decide what you wear." My face turned bright crimson. Meta just loved putting me in the most adorably embarrassing outfits. AND TODAY OF ALL DAYS!!! "No, Mummy!!!" I begged, still getting used to calling her that... but in that moment, I felt very small. "I'll pick something right now!!!" "Too late." She insisted, "I just got a text saying they arrived in town. it should only take them a few minutes to find us. So either I dress you, or you meet them in your nappy." I did the only thing I could do... I whimpered... honestly not knowing which would be worse... and sure I didn't really have a choice... //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch2 - Not So Disappointing //-------------------------------------------------------// Ch2 - Not So Disappointing • POV: Parzival. I felt all kinds of awkward as we walked down one particular road. There were about a dozen manors here, each made of a different material... and looking like it was straight out of an old Flash Animation. Aech and I looked so obvious with our more computer generated art style. We looked like we were out of a 21st century videogame... walking around in a 2.D. child's cartoon. This city of "Ponyville" wasn't really my cup of tea. As I specialized in fandoms from the 80s and 90s. Back when I was a real kid, There was a massive revival of such classic media, due to their copyrights falling. The Brony fandom wasn't really a thing until the 2010s, so the Copyright of Friendship is magic remained firmly in Hasbros hands. As Hasbro was a sub department of Disney, at the time, that company did all in it's power to keep hold of it's copyrights. They lost enough when that law was passed, and weren't willing to lose any more. As a result, Disney was vastly overshadowed by all the remakes of 80s and 90s classics. But all companies have their ups and downs, and it hardly destroyed the Disney Empire (which now had it's own planet in the Oasis. Where it still pumped out new content too this day). My mind wandered as Aech directed me to the rich side of town. There were a handful of large manors, going down this road... looking straight out of a Barbie magazine. Although none was a generic manor. They each appeared to be custom built... with lots of rainbows. Some were even made of freaking clouds. Regardless, these were clearly luxury manors, designed for billionaires. So this meant my new brother was very rich, and possibly even influential... At least, with the bronies. I didn't recognize any of the names on the mail boxes. Not this "Foal Star", or "SuperPinkBrony12". Though given how nice their manors were, they were probably important to the Padded Foal community, but I didn't have a clue who any of them were... so I kinda just assumed I wouldn't recognize my new brother's name, either, and stopped paying attention. Aech hadn't told me anything about this kid... other then he was an introvert, with a very active social life, that sometimes overwhelmed him... and that he was a lot more sheltered when it came to things like media and technology... really after hearing THAT, I couldn't figure why Aech would be interested in this kid. They would have nothing in common!!! Aech was one of the leading programmers, long before people emigrated to the Oasis Matrix. Before the High Five inherited the original Oasis game, he was one of the top players on the Modders board. Why would he want a kid that didn't know a thing about technology... And what could I possibly talk about with a "sheltered" hermit? I was a scholar of pop-culture. I literally talked about nothing but my favorite movies and games. My favorite pass time was spotting Easter Eggs... How could I possibly relate to a "Casual". I don't have anything against such players... but I also had nothing in common with them. I sighed, as Aech guided us to one mansion... looking like a small castle, floating on a cloud. A staircase leading up to the floating island... well... it certainly looked grand... definitely more then I could afford. I briefly wondered, as we began walking up the steps... well if he wasn't much of a gamer, how did he earn enough money for this? Maybe he wrote pony fan fiction? Or just like playing domestic jobs around the map. Those were an easy, and quick, way to earn coin... but they were basically just mindless grinding games. Honestly, based on what Aech told me, I was preparing myself for disappointment. I could just imagine a dorky kid. That does nothing but play diner dash, and tend his Hub Village. Regardless, I'd do my best to be polite. After all Aech was trying to merge tribes with his wife. I'd met the Asari lots of times, and liked her. So I didn't plan to make waves with her son. But I can't imagine I'd enjoy any of this. Aech was now knocking on the door. It took a few minutes for it to open. Due to the yelling. "Open the door," I recognized Metagamer's voice. Followed by, "But they'll see me!!!" from a shrill, kinda nasally kid voice. Aech smiled at the horrified whine. Meta retorted with, "They're gonna see you anyway." "Just let me change," "S'mouth. Open. The. Door." There was a groan of acceptance. The kind I definitely don't have when I'm about to do something embarrassing. But when the door opened, I could see why... and might confess to making such a sound if Aech had forced me to dress like that. In front of us was an Animalistic Avatar. Which meant he was humanoid, but with a few animal features. Like hooved legs, a fluffy fox tail, giant foxy ears (that were too big for his head), sharp teeth, and small leathery wings. That might have looked scary, if he didn't also have an adorable pretty boy face, and stood at an impressive 3 foot five. He had a strange pale tan. As his skin was a Hispanic brown, but was so light, as if he didn't see the sun often. A little more odd was his features were more caucasian. Especially his button nose. However, none of that was what he should be embarrassed over. As I said, he was really cute. No, his issue was he was wearing a blue SAILOR SUIT!!! Complete with white trim, oversized white collar, and red neckerchief. His hair was even styled in the dorkiest way possible. Poor kid. His face was really flushed with embarrassment. "Hi-hi Aech," The boy greeted the adult first, as was proper. "Good to see you again, kid." Aech ruffled the boy's mane. unfortunately it all fell perfectly back in place. "This is my Ward, Parzival." Aech introduced me. "Hi." I blushed, still not feeling comfortable to be seen, by strangers, in this form. Even when they were fellow kids. "I'm Parzival," I held out my hand. The boy hesitated, then extended his own. "S'mouth," he named himself Two screens popped up in front of me. Or rather, one in front of me, and the other in front of S'mouth. It was our Hub Computers, sharing info between each other, while showing us both the other's profile. My eyes buggered out of my head at that, as I saw just who this was. I might never have watched the My Little Galaxy cartoons, but I didn't know a kid at school who didn't watch at least one of the cartoons leading up to it. I watched most of them. Though I tended to prefer his self contained stories on his "ColtKit Productions" Channel. Which were more self contained. I spent the first couple of years, with this kid as the only creator of new content. He was one of the few fan fic writers, that was installed as a Beta tester of the Oasis Matrix. I looked to Aech, gaping. He just smiled at me. I hadn't realized he had such connections... though I guess it should have been rather obvious... he was Aech, after all. He was always more social, then myself. This was Smart Mouth, commonly dubbed "The Prince of cartoons" by the media. This kid had started the very trend of working with AIs, as the producer instead of the active writer. The very first to unlock the skill perks, to allow that. The boy just took his organic imagination, and had his AI build the cartoon for him, as it would build a VGP (Virtual Gaming Program). ... but it was more then that... his cartoons were just sooooo GOOD!!! His cartoons were even watched by people that had no interest in age play, or spanking stories, simply because he put a lot of effort into the actual plot and world. That's why he stayed popular, even after more producers started popping up. Don't get me wrong, he had some weird-ass ideas, but they were nearly always interesting. Although, he did seem to overly obsessed about that "My Little Galaxy", let's play he made... too the point he was neglecting his other creations, but his Hub Computer recently put him back on track. Time management was part of their purpose, after all. His biggest stuff was crossovers. As he had a way of blending universes, that had no logical connection, into compelling and believable worlds. In one interview he stated he spent so much time on the world, back when he wrote Fanfiction, that he sometimes got distracted explaining it, instead of focusing on anything else. He believed he was a hack writer, but that "Oasis Matrix" let him express himself more then he ever could before, as a producer and editor. He was always quick to insist, the cartoons wouldn't be half as good, without his Hub Computer. "Errrrrr... You okay?" The boy blinked at me, as apparently I had been staring. Then blushed, "Is it the outfit?" he looked down at himself. The boy then glared up at an approaching Asari. She, as Metagamer liked to be called "She" when in her Asari form, ignored the glare... and looked far too smug. In what was obviously her choice of outfit. "It's a pleasure to see you again." Meta said to us. That is Aech and I. Getting my brain back on track. "You as well." Aech smiled dreamily. "Please, follow me to the main sitting room?" Meta spoke strangely proper. She wasn't usually so formal. It made me tense up a bit. However, her wink, in my direction, caused me to relax. She was just being silly. "Is nearly time for morning tea. The boys can retire to S'mouth's playroom." I looked at Smart Mouth, while the boy looked back at me. Obviously he hadn't expected we would just be left to our own devices... "Come on," He led me up the stairs, as the adults went on their own... Things developed into an awkward silence. As I watched S'mouth scowl. "You okay?" I asked. The boy blinked, looking over at me, as if just now remembering I was following him. "Sorry," S'mouth blushed. "Meta just turned off her corner of our hive mind. Whatever's going on, with her Husband, she wants privacy." That's right, Smart Mouth had an early model implant. I just hadn't realized Metagamer was a part of that. Though I will admit, I didn't have much experience with her. Outside occasionally hanging out with her, but that usually involved Aech too. I gave a slight smile, realizing we at least had one thing in common, a perspective most players could never experience. We both had a Hive Mind. //-------------------------------------------------------// Previously On //-------------------------------------------------------// Previously On A/N: You don't need to read these fics to understand what is going on, but you might enjoy it: This takes place during: "The Oasis Matrix - 2nd Age, Schooling: Furry Hogwarts Online" A sequel to: "The Oasis Matrix - 1st Age, Setting Up: Get Ready Players" This Chapter is flashes of key scenes that explain what is going on, that way new readers can just pick it up immediately, without having to read the other fics... and So that I can be lazy and don't have to write another short Summary, that will be far worse then the original scenes. "Parzival!" "Parzival!" "People, relax," As per usual, it was Aech that spoke first. She was always the most outgoing of the High Five. It made her good at shepherding the media. "You would think you have never seen a life changing breakthrough in science before." She casually whipped her hair with her off hand and smiled at the crowd. "We do this about once a week. You really should be used to it." Her grin had the perfect percentage of teeth and, although charming, rung a bit too cocky. However, what can you expect from a child prodigy who had been keeping the world spinning for decades. Sho, the youngest of the group, though now in his early 40s, smiled at the reporters. "You're probably wondering why we called this meeting. When we decided to stay Earth-side, it was with the promise that we would save you all. Now, I'm happy to report, we found the way..." The boy trailed off, getting the reporters to sit on the edge of their seat. The boy really did love toying with them, far too much. It only took a moment for the reporters to begin bursting with questions. Impatient to hear the discovery that could save humanity. Aech was able to calm them down again, before encouraging "The Great Parzival" to speak. I gulped, before explaining, "We have found a... pretty extreme procedure, which can permanently implant a human mind into the next gen Oasis game. We've spent the last few years, perfecting the technology, and believe we can now mass produce it. "We even found a way to contain all remaining life, not just human, but everyone's pets, and our zoo animals... yes?" I called on one of the reporters in the crowd. With cameras immediately on her. The reporter stood, with a particularly sour face, "Doesn't this contradict your original message of 'reality is the only thing that's real'?" Daito, the oldest of the High Five (by a few months), snorted, "That is before the world ended and billions were left here to die." Global warming had hit hard. It wasn't exactly helped by over population. Nor the world's most rich and powerful men and women, fleeing the planet. The 1 percenters had found a way to revive Mar's core, and were able to colonize it... then left everyone else to die. The High 5 chose to stay behind. To find some way to save everyone. Or until then, at least make their lives easier. While I was feeling the weight of that, Art3mis took control of the conference. "They say necessity is the mother of invention. Well I am here to tell you, the near extinction of the human race, has led us to create a means of giving everyone on the planet true immortality, in a digital paradise. "I will be the first to admit that the procedure to grant this is a few miles from 'extreme' but unfortunately it is our only way to survive. This heat will only get worse until it shifts into a frozen wasteland. No children are being born, Earth's population was officially sterilized over a decade ago. So it is unlikely our species will even live long enough to see the end of the world. "All animals are nearing extinction, and the only ones still around are those we brought into our domes. Resources are getting more and more scarce. As it is no longer safe to mine for them. All the while, scavenging is becoming more and more dangerous. "I will tell you now, we need this procedure before the Earth becomes 100% uninhabitable. By our calculations we have only another 17 years before we aren't even able to step outside the domes, even with our radiation suits... and it is my eternal regret to inform you, before that time is up, Gregarious Games will be closing its doors. "We plan to install ourselves into this virtual world. We stayed on this planet to find a way to save everyone and we believe we have found it. For those of you too scared, or too stubborn, to take it we wish you the best of luck, but know this is your only chance at salvation. The 3rd and final installment of the Oasis franchise ends with 'Oasis 3: Emigration' and will mark the salvation of mankind." The reporters all started speaking at once again. Art3mis raised her hand, to calm them down, before pointing at another reporter. The man stood tall, clearly well aware of the fact he only had a job because these people created the means for him to do it. Still, he had to know, "You keep bringing up that the procedure is 'extreme'. What exactly does it entail?" Art3mis sighed, "We drill into the nervous system." The whole room went dead quiet. Aech stepped in with the technical jargon. "The human body generates more bioelectricity than a 120-volt battery, and over 25,000 BTUs of body heat. With an average person, at rest, produces around 100 watts of power. While in motion, we can comfortably sustain 300-400 watts. Where short bursts, we can create over 2,000 watts. We have found a way to harness this energy. "By encasing the body in a pod, designed specifically to stimulate us. We can hook up wires and cords, to both harvest energy, and keep us in a permanent virtual reality." Sho snorted, "By drilling a hole in the base of our skulls, and plugging us into a computer." Daito glared at him. Before assuring, "The procedure is completely painless, and for individuals older then 25, we will emerge them into a new type of gel. Which will further stimulate the body, while preserving it. Food will be provided through a feeding tube, and oxygen through a mask." Aech added, "However none of this will affect your involvement in the actual game. It will feel like your body. Any type of body you want. And you will live forever inside your own paradise." "What about the children!" A reporter screamed, without being called on. And immediately everyone wanted to know our plans for them. I informed, "As we can't, in good conscience, permanently stunt a child through the preservation gel. Children will not be allowed to be installed, until they are 25. As that is when the brain finishes developing. Until then. They will be cared for by the AIs, within the Domed cities. At which point, they will be allowed to choose to permanently emigrate into the Oasis. "Due to less humans, in the real world, and more drones, controlled by AIs. We project the kids will actually be safer, staying out here, until they are ready to join us. They can always still interact with us, using the Dreamscape helmets." Diato quickly moved on from that. "All media, including fan creations, will exist in a cloud that you can stream or straight up download to your personal harddrive. From there, you can save and create your own games, or even make crossover games of your favorite franchises. All of which you can share with friends and invite them to play with you. The virtual world we have created is a paradise, especially for you. With the ability to edit it as you please. Aech added, "Our facility to store us will be completely self sufficient. Controlled by sophisticated AIs that use, and build, robotic drones as puppets. They will protect us and provide us with our every need. You will even have your own personal AI looking out for you, in the form of a 'Hub Computer'. However there are safety protocols in place. A voting system for players, AIs must honor, respect, and most importantly, implement." Sho shrugged, "The virtual world we created is based off it's own Galaxy. Each 'Star Cluster' houses a different Genre. While each planet directly relates to a different Fandom. Continents will be seperated by each franchise, and reboot, in that Fandom. Then the cities will each be designed to cater to the needs, and enjoyment, of all the various subcultures within the fandoms. In other words, each city will be specifically crafted for a different sub culture." Art3mis jumped in, "All Cities will be largely self governing, with an elected Governor. Every Governor will have a council of AIs, who manage the programs in their territory. "But rest assured, there will also be a Council of elected players to keep the Governor from having absolute power. They will be the Ministers, to keep order in their city, while also keeping the Governors in check. Through the ability to veto their Governor's decisions with a vast majority vote." I assured, "However, the city states won't be totally independent, as their will be Ruler AIs, watching over their own Continent. They will act as the Shephard of the other AIs, throughout their Fandom. And will be able to approve request of individual players. Though they will largely be a figure head when it comes to players. They will have the ability to pass or veto Bills, regardless how the Governor feels about it. Of course, if enough current in office, Governors, from anywhere in their fandom, 'Like' or 'Dislike' a bill, it will be reevaluated." Aech's turn again, "Players will only be considered 'Citizens', of a Governor's territory, if they own housing property in that city. Which can only be done if you have spent enough time in that city." I added, eagerly. After all, this next bit had been my idea. "But don't think that means you will be without a home. As all Players will have access to their own private Hub World. Where they can build their own houses and businesses. "Each Hub World will be stored on a separate harddrive, while still connected directly to the player, as well as have it's own Ram, to prevent lag. You can unlock AIs, from any franchise, to live in your Hub World, by completing one of their games, and then completing a quest for each of the characters you want, in a 'Post Credit' game. "For Example, if you want AIs from the Harry Potter franchise, you must complete a game based on all 7 of the original books. "Then you can talk to the characters, after the game is complete, and do missions for them, until they agree to be installed in your Hub World. At which point they are upgraded from simple puppet programs, controlled by your Hub Computer, to more self aware AIs. These AIs will keep you interested by asking your help with specific Missions, all self contained within your hub world. "From there, you can play other adaptations, reboots, and Fanfictions. Which let you unlock new gear, clothes, personalities, memories, and potentially even new races for their Avatar, for all affiliated characters you unlock. You can mix and match, and choose up to 10 personalities for your AI to adapt to. "Although you should be careful what games you finish, as Townsfolk automatically upload all memories, from any relevant game you play. Unless you specifically tell your Hub Computer not to upload the memories. "Townsfolk are programmed to love you, unconditionally. To default to whatever personality you set for them. However, they are not simply toys. The core of their person remains the same. Even if you switch their personalities around frequently. They might perceive things differently, even act differently in some cases, but they are still the same person at the core of their programming." Art3mis moved on, as I was eagerly ranting about a feature she believed most wouldn't care about. "You will be the Mayor of your town, and as such, you will be able to write out bills, for any Territory you hold citizen ship in. Bills that directly reflect the whole of the Oasis. If it gets enough likes, by a specific time since posting, it will be implemented in their city. When a Bill is posted, all players of that City will be notified." Sho butt in, "Be aware, the Governor has the power to veto the bill if they feel it would not be in the best interest of their city. Though if you don't like that they did so, you can vote them out of office come next election, which is once every 10 years. and AIs will have the ability to vote for bills as well, in order to ensure they don't become a slave race and thereby grow resentful of humanity. Now Diato, "In addition to all this, there will be a Senate, with an elected official from every Fandom. Which will keep the Council of Programmers in check. That's Ogden Morrow, us of the High 5, and various other men and women who helped us design this new Game. That's 42 people in total. We will vote on laws that stretch the whole Oasis, but the Senate will have the ability to Veto our decisions, through a vote. "This new government has been discussed at length with all the current leaders, of ALL the Domes. Who will be acting as our first collection of Senators and Governors, until the next voting period." The talks devolved into a commercial for the newest Oasis game. Where we went over all the various game mechanics. As well as the benefits of the game. Trying to distract people from the horror they had to undergo just to play... just to survive the hell the Earth had turned into. • ● Pov: • Kirigaya Kazuto. • Username: Kirito. • Nickname: The Black Swordsman. The Oasis was, already, the best way to cope, with what we had done to the world. Well, not my generation directly. I was old, but not THAT old. During the industrial revolution, when technology got a huge boom... those guys hadn't realized they needed to regulate their consumption of resources. Nor find better ways to dispose of the waste. I don't blame them. They had done what humanity had always done. The issue was they didn't understand the sheer level of pollution these things cause... nor thet that did more then make the air smell bad. I mean really, how were they supposed to know. Then there was the population boom. Which only got worse and worse, as the decades progressed. Which led to even greater consumption of resources, and more pollution. Then there was the energy crisis. People had been saying we need to get off fossil fuels for decades, but humans, like all animals, are resistant to change. We eventually used it all up. Only then switching to things like alternative energy... which regrettably, wasn't green energy, but rather nuclear... Which, given it's nature, was only possible to set up for major cities. Small towns became a thing of the past. As all surrounding people fled to big cities, due to lack of resources. The Oasis, for the longest time, acted as an escape. A Virtual Reality, housing all mankind's Knowledge. It's what replaced the internet. Though, thankfully, most major cities prioritized setting up free Wifi stations. As it was more important then ever. In the mid 21st century, The Oasis got an upgrade. Creating a Next Gen VR Helmet. This helmet, created the first true Virtual Reality. Feeding all 5 senses, through input directly into the brain. This baby would guide RIM sleep. Although the first build "Sword Art Online"... had caused a bit of a scandal, as thousands had been trapped inside the game, for years, living off feeding tubes. Though that, was sorta intentional, given the maker of that game had a psychotic break. And thought he was "Saving" the people... by imprisoning them in a "better world"... Although a slight issue with this plan was, the game was perma-death. So if you died in the game, you died in real life. The helmet was actually DESIGNED, to purposefully kill the user, if their Avatar died. Yeah... that was a bit of a set back, for the technology. However, once the scandal was forgotten, the technology was near immediately picked back up. After all, 10 thousand people, trapped in hell, might seem like a big deal... but seeing as the world's population was 20 billion. It was soon forgotten by all but those directly affected... and many of the people who had actually lived in that world, were the biggest voices for giving the technology a second chance. After all, that world they escaped? They regretted leaving. Even with the threat of death, they longed for that plentiful world, of adventure and cooperation. The players had smelled clean air, tasted real food, felt every touch and kiss. Heard the quiet peace of nature. They experienced a real world, virtual or not. One far better then our own. So naturally, after the technology became better regulated, and got rid of that pesky "real world death" function. They threw themselves back into it. You didn't even need a rig anymore. Just the helmet, and a safe place to lay down. (...) I was unfortunately, old enough to remember what the world used to be like... But it was more then that. I had owned one of the first VRMMORPG helmets. Which now everyone just calls "Dreamscape Helmets". I was even one of the 10 thousand, trapped in the first true Virtual Reality... even one of the original beta testers, for that game. • I heard the song of weeping, a far to familiar sound, at this point. Tracking it, I came to a little cabin, in the woods. Although, unlike the movie, this place held a rather wholesome atmosphere. I caught sight of a teenager... silently weeping. Although my ears had learned to hear even subtle cries. It wasn't hard to figure out why this happened. As the boy was kneeling in front of a grave stone. It took me a moment to realize, just who the boy was. Not because I didn't recognize him, but because my brain couldn't connect the confident gamer... with the weeping mess in front of me. I stepped over to the child... who was no longer a child, I realized. He was 15 when the game started, and that is the age his Avatar was stuck at. But in reality, it had been 4 years, trapped in this hell... to the point I had stopped thinking of it as "Hell". People were dying, but people die, in the real world, as well. Life felt... meaningful in here. Even if the purpose was to get out. I had just been some random college kid, in the real world... and now, I was someone important. Other players looked up to me. I was a monster hunter, and one of the players getting us through the levels. I might not be as skilled, as the boy that was now in my arms, but I was on the leader board. Hearing ruffling, I looked over, to see my clan setting up tents around the cabin. One of them had already opened a monster repellent. They had sensed I wanted to stay with the boy. The child hugging me, and squeezing me like a lifeline, was probably a hint. Looking at the Tombstone, I noticed two names on it. "Yuuki Asuna... beloved wife." Along with "Yui... treasured Daughter." I resisted the urge of exclaiming profanities. I knew I should never have let the kid run off, when the game launched. I thought I might slow him down, lowering his chances of survival... but he was just a kid. I couldn't expect him to cope with this shit, on his own... it seemed almost inevitable, this is where that horrible decision would lead. I hugged the boy tighter, swearing to myself, I wouldn't make the same mistake again. He was coming with me, this time, rather he liked it or not. He might be the infamous Black Swordsmen... but he was still just a kid. • ● POV: • Ollivander Toma • Username: Smart Mouth. I wasn't some adventurous young lad, gearing to save the world, but rather an aging old man, at the end of "Middle Aged". Though I wasn't some old wrinkly thing. Thanks to good genes, and genetic engineering, I still looked like I was in my early 30s. The human body didn't really start degrading, Until we turned a hundred. Then kept chugging along for another 57 years, usually. I only had another 16 years, before that started happening to me. I never, could have imagined I would live so long... not with everything wrong with me. But they found cures to most of my ailments... Still, they might have fixed most of my issues, but no one was interested in an Asexual grey muzzle. I have no real desire to have sex with anyone but myself. Even virtual sex was far too stimulating for me. It overwhelmed me. I didn't want it to, but it did. I was far from a virgin but I never actually enjoyed when I did manage to let people do stuff to me. Touching in general had always been hard for me. It made me uncomfortable, although I had gotten better at hugging later in life thanks to my involvement in the furry community. Furries were actually how I got involved with the bronies. Still basic touching was hard for me, so you can imagine how I am with more intimate stuff like sex. I wish I wasn't like that but there you go. Stupid Autistic brain. (...) I used to be a sociologist... but in a world like our's, sociology was really only a profession you could explore in the Oasis. Something you could only do at night, while sleeping. I was just grateful I had an outlet for my passion. (...) However, that was more my freetime. The Arts, and in fact most Sciences, were, for the most part, considered a hobby. With all real world jobs focused on survival. No, my day job was working as a scavenger. We might recycle, everything, within the cities, but our cities didn't accumulate trash, as often as we used it... mostly cuz we still liked wearing clothes, and having little trinkets of comfort. Humans were, instinctively, a species of hoarders. Some might take this further then others, but we all did it to some degree. If you owned more then 7 shirts, you should understand my meaning. We were a bit like ravens, in that regard. Decorating our homes in useless trinkets that caught our interest... and being willing to die defending our little scrap of no where. See? I was a Sociologist at heart. I was also on the spectrum. So I tend to have a different perspective then most. They might have cured my Schizophrenia, through some of the first Bio-implants, but they never did figure out what really caused Autism... mostly cuz the world went to hell, and people stopped trying to fix things. Then started prioritizing other things. After all, most kids with Autism, grow up into functional adults... if a little odd. At least I wasn't schizophrenic anymore. I was able to get a chip installed into my head that regulated that stuff. It allowed me to go back to college and get a doctorate in Sociology, minoring in Psychology and History. From there, I spent my days traveling the world doing research on the cultural aspects of various fandoms. I wasn't rich from that, but I was middle class thanks to grants. Plus I got to spend my 40s doing what I was passionate about. Then the world went straight to hell. My Caravan, what we called the more mobile train thing, survived by scavenging the surface world for anything made out of plastic, metal, or most rare, paper. Once the truck was full, we brought it to our domed city. Who preceded to pay us by the ton. We got a salary, like everyone, but also received extra credits based on what we brought back... Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of scrap left. We had resorted to tearing apart old houses, and bringing them to be recycled... then, when their were no more houses near by, we pushed further and further out, into the wastelands. We still had access to free Healthcare, but our medical trailer was limited.... Life in the domes was getting harder. For the first few decades, the population just kept rising. Even with the breeding restrictions, what with sterilizing people like me, with genetic disorders. Didn't matter I was Asexual. They still ensured I couldn't breed... at least they devoted resources to maintaining my implant... though I worried how long that would be considered a priority. Without frequent maintenance, my chip would eventually short out... and I'd be left a drooling, incoherent, idiot... at the end of the world. For now, the resources I brought in, were worth more then the cost of maintaining me. I sighed. My issues with sex were far too miniscule when compared to all that. At least I had the Dreamscape helmets, to stay in contact with the rest of the planet. Medication, and medical treatments, were free as well... more based on how important your job was, to how high on the priority list you were... honestly, the main reason I became a scavenger, was because with my implant, I needed to be as useful as possible, to get the maintenance it required. Scavenging was dangerous work, and necessary with the growing population. So it was easy to get proper medical treatment, with higher risk jobs. Gregarious Games, before it was Gregarious Games, used to make devices that worked with your brain. It started with things like the "Mental Regulator Chip" I had, to better control mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder... though they couldn't do anything about things like Autism, as no one knows what causes that yet... other priorities arose. Anyway, after Gregarious Games invented the chip, then came the mind drive. A small hard drive installed inside the base of the skull. Which let the user download terabytes of information directly into their brain. These devices were built by one Ogden Morrow. Who later teamed up with his childhood friend, James Halliday, to build a next Generation of Virtual Reality helmets. Morrow had the hardware, and Halliday had the programming skill to create the world. They made a few games together, but eventually created their Master piece... The Oasis. Eventually Halliday wanted to go solo with his game, and forced Morrow to sign over ownership of the Oasis. And thus "Gregarious Games" was born. Though Morrow continued to run, and own, the main company, returning to the world of medical cybernetics. Later, after the next Generation of gamers inherited Gregarious Games. This clan of 5, calling themselves the High 5, re-merged with Morrow's company. From there the technology advanced. • "I see you have a neural implant," The physician was holding a data pad. Likely reading over my medical history. "To treat Schizophrenia." I groaned, "Don't tell me, that means I don't qualify." Rubbing my temple. Already imagining being left behind, to die in this decaying world. "Oh no," The woman quickly shook her head. "We accept everyone. That's kinda the point. A lot of research was done, to insure those with implants, wouldn't be excluded. In fact, most survivors, with implants, were recruited as deputies. Even the programmers were fitted with implants, special for this build of the Oasis." I gaped, "What about the fracturing issue?" The woman shrugged. "There are, of course, limitations, but we've learned how to turn those into strengths. You see, your implant, when combined with the neurological manipulations of the Dreamscape helmet, created 5 distinct personalities in your head. Each a true person, given the mixture of cybernetic and organic tissue. "They are technically fully self aware AIs, in your head, that manifested through different aspects of your organic brain. So legally, we have to preserve them as fully self aware individuals. Even if they only really exist when you enter the Oasis. "Originally, it was believed these multiple individuals, sharing a body... would drive each other insane. So software was developed, to keep the other personalities dormant well the original was awake. Then keep their minds separate, while you slept in the Oasis. "This resulted in your counterparts dreaming up memories, while you were awake. They had entire lives, based on the world you saw around you. It was their version of dreaming. "However, upon further research into the 'Fractured Awareness' implants give. We have found ways for you to better co-exist with your separate personalities. "We used that knowledge to create the Hive Mind which each Townsfolk has. As well as the Programmers own fractured awareness. Although, unlike you, both Programmers and Townsfolk, maintain a perfect copy of their Original. As that leads to greater levels of cooperation, and less confusion. "However, the concept is the same. This way, like the programmers, you can share thoughts between each of your counterparts, hear and see what the others do, and better cope with each other. But it will be up to you when the implant is activated... it may take some time for your counterparts to get used to the idea that they are... well counterparts of you. As most of them are simply born unaware of that, although a minority does know. Unless you want us to tweek their programming a bit-" "NO!" I snapped, then blushed at the unnecessary force of the word. "Sorry, but no. If they are anything like me, they won't take kindly to being reprogrammed." The physician nodded. "So..." I voiced my thoughts. "I'll have like... a hive mind?" "Essentially yes," The physician nodded. "Although you'll be able to choose which thoughts you broadcast. You'll all be able to see through each others' eyes and hear what they hear. Though not feel what they feel. That was thought a step too far, so the software will continue to shield from that. "Due to the nature of your personalities, we intend to give you a larger hub world. Where each of your counterparts will have their own island, with your's in the center. "Then you can choose which of your Counterparts will get copied into different MMOs... as your cybernetic implant makes it impossible for you to move freely between them. "Once you activate your... 'hive mind' implant, as you called it, you won't even be able to move between your Hub World, and the Main Oasis Server. As a copy of each of you is required, to devote your time to such a task. But you can choose when you upload to that. And we took care to insure your Hub version will be able to play VGPs. I sighed, "As you said... my implant is ment to treat Schizophrenia... I... don't think I can handle having multiple voices in my head again." "Unfortunately, this is non negotiable," The Physician sighed back. "It is vital to your health. We will wait for your counterparts to get used to the idea. But the longer you go without activating the implant, the greater the risk will be... until you experience a complete system failure. You're implant just can't cope with the new Oasis build. Not without the aid of a Hive Mind. "Each of your counterparts are a complete individual, requiring their own Profile, and even their own Hub computer. Your Pod will need 6 harddrives, one for each of you. While the machines can easily cope, your organic parts simply can't. The processing power is far too great. You need to at least slightly synchronize your personalities." "Can't we just share a profile and hub computer?" "No," the Doc immediately rejected that. "Your counterparts are far too complicated. They are distinct entities from you. Which is why each of you will be given your own billion credit signing bonus, as it's unlikely you all will even want to share the money. Much less agree what to spend it on. "Think of it as a more connected guild. The different personalities might be a reflection of your subconscious... but they are their own people. Each completely self aware and independent. The Hive mind will better balance that, well keeping you as separate entities." She proceeded to go into the various benefits of having such a hive mind. • Centuries passed... or millenniums. It was hard to tell, given the Games all ran at different speeds. Guess time really was relative. As they passed, I largely entertained myself by making cartoons. Well first I had to beat the canon franchises. In order to unlock the option to make my own VGPs out of them... or even my own fan videos. So I figured I might as well unlock the Townfolk, well I was at it. Once I completed all my favorite franchises. I started adapting my fan fiction series "Omniva Verse 42". I combined franchises and wrote a detailed outline of everything I wanted to happen in the story... then went the lazy route by having my Hub Computer create the actual show. I was able to get a lot of assistance from her, as I spent a lot of money on the right perks. (...) I would edit videoes, after Omniva was done with them. Adjust the art style and movements of the characters, sometimes scrapping an idea all together and writing in something new for the VIs to act out. The characters behaved how their canon counterparts actually did, while I went and dictated the situations they were put into... while making spankings far more common in these cartoons. I acted more as a producer then a writer. Which was actually something I enjoyed even more then writing it myself. I liked tweeking things, more then struggling to get my words on paper... which is why I often worked with Collab partners. They had my ideas, and I would enhance their interpretation. With Omniva, I didn't need to do that. I created a good many cartoons, all about 10 seasons a piece, and near 100 episodes per season. Then I would post it on my profile. I was the first to do this, given I was one of the original beta testers. So there really wasn't much competition for Fan Fiction. Especially with my advantage from all my perks. It made it so more people were willing to give my weird ideas a chance. And they liked what they saw. Eventually others started as well, becoming the Editors and producers of their stories. While letting their Hub Computer be the main writer. Not really sure why, but I continued to be popular even after that. Maybe it's just cuz more people knew me? After I finished a few dozen shows like this, I combined all of them into my own lore and history for a new game. An actual game, called "My Little Galaxy". A world made of all my ideas... and starring my Avatar, living the life I always wish I could have had. Unlike the cartoons, which were just cartoons I uploaded into my Townsfolk's memories. This was a legitimate Virtual Gaming Program. Where I decided to make my home. I, quite literally, lived in that world. I did slow the game down, so that a week in the game, was a night in my Hub. That way I could still tend my AIs, during working hours. An Hour was a Day, and instead of sleeping in my Hub World, I jumped into MLG. I became a bit... obsessed with the game I created, living out every moment of it. My days were simple. I would spend a week in my game. Followed by my 9 to 5 job of tending my AIs and editing my footage. Typically I would end up with 5 to 7 hours of useable footage. Then cut that up into 20 minute videos. Lastly I would have my Hub Computer begin posting an episode, once a week... with there usually being quite the backlog. I didn't JUST spend my time editing, of course. As Mayor of my hub island, it was my responsibility to help my Townsfolk, and set up festivals and the like. For entertainment, I would watch what my counterparts got up to. Hive Minds really were handy. I could be a complete workaholic, and still have more traditional fun. I was in various M.M.Os, while helping Kirito with his Sheriff's department. Even started going to school, once that opened up in the Main Oasis Server. All without ever leaving my Hub World... not that I could, but it made it bearable. Thankfully, being a deputy was another 9 to 5 job, So I could still hang out with my friends in between. (....) • The 6 Counterparts of Ollivander's Hive Mind: Back when they are being Recruited to become deputies. Just Before they were permanently installed into the final build of the Oasis. • • Smart Mouth: I squirmed nervously as I worked with a little gray Kobold, who covered in blue paint. We found a forge, in the Queen's treasury. Which was worth one, permanent, bonus to Armor... which the rest of the team felt I needed. And I had chosen to attach the extra defense to my scarf. It didn't really matter if the gear appeared on my Avatar, as my whole outfit was technically equipped, even if you couldn't see it in Feral Form, but I might choose to change out of my outfit... I mean I rarely did, outside of dates and parties, but I always had my scarf. My friends and I were in the heart of a changeling hive... we were kinda in the middle of the Queens treasury, dividing up the loot. With everyone getting an equal share of bits. While the gear went to who needed it most. We weren't greedy, we had been friends for too long to fight over our loot. Instead we all agreed, as a team, who needed what to help the party, as a whole. They had decided I needed better armor, as I had low health due to being an archer and spell caster. Nearby, a fledgling Dragon, about Smolder's age, was thrilled to find a few new spell tomes. She was a bright yellow, with blue fins, blue-ish green eyes, and an adorable little pair of wings. Typo, the Dragon, was busy reading the spell books. They were basically instruction manuals for learning new spells, after all. The book she was currently reading was based on a new fire spell. So not much use to me but great help for our resident fire lizard. Typo was our offensive mage, where I specialized in things like Restoration and Illusion. We tended to fight over the Mysticism and Alteration Tomes, but the party decided Typo should get first pick on those, as she was purely focused on increasing her magical skills... and I was more stealth based, with a flare for magic, being more of a support player. Especially thanks to routinely training my Illusion and Restoration skills. So they were actually higher then her's. Which is why I got those books. But sadly the evil queen didn't have ANY healing spell tomes, and her Illusion spell books I already knew... So, needless to say, Typo was very happy with her collection of spell books. Then there was a slender child, with a digivice on his belt, and a Kotomon on his shoulder. The boy had a head of bleach blonde hair, and large Anime style eyes. Clearly his Avatar was based off a Gen 1 Digi-Destined The boy was wielding a sword, twice the size of a full grown adult. With one hand, no less. "Honestly Raider, that thing looks like it belongs in Final Fantasy." Stated a reformed changeling. Though not like the typical ones. He had antenna and the back legs of a cricket. Well the team might be looking out for unreformed changelings, this bug like horse was on their side. He had on a Pinocchio like straw hat, and a white suit collar (though just the collar, no shirt attached), with blue bowtie. His own coloring were various shades of blues and greens. The Cricket Ling stared distastefully at the comically sized sword. "Sure that thing isn't a glitch?" "Don't care." Grinned the younger human. "Mine!" Although only young in this artificial realm. Unlike me, Raider wasn't an age player. He just chose a child as his Avatar, to go with the Digimon theme. The Cricket Ling rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of a smile on his face. Rad was our resident Warrior. Don't let his casual clothes and lack of weapons fool you. He was a real heavy hitter. More a bruiser then tank, but could still take a good bit of damage. About the only real spell casting he knew was conjuration, but that was because he liked summoning Bound Armor and weapons, instead of wearing it all the time. He also liked summoning creatures to fight alongside him. All of Rad's gear was heavily enchanted to give him a boost to his skills, and even a healing factor by way of an Amulet that restored his Magicka, Health, and Fatigue. Whenever we found an Enchanted item, Tech and I would break it down. That way we could reverse engineer the enchantments. Because of this, our party might not have the most powerful enchantments (or a lot of money from selling extra enchantments) but we had A LOT of magical gear. Tech was a little grey Kobold, and our primary craftsmen. Although I did help him out with a lot of the crafts, I could only do that stuff through the game's crafting engine. I didn't have a clue how to do Programming or Modding... and none of us were willing to do straight up hacks, given how illegal those were. Regardless, I often assisted Tech, in making crafted items. As entering an "Assist Mode" really increase the chances of success well crafting, and you can even make better items. Tech was our Technomancer / Rogue. He handled all the electronics in the game... technically everything was electric, given we were in a videogame, but he handled all the stuff that was categorized as "computer", "Machine", or "Electronic". He had a lot of weapons that fell into that category, as well. Nearby, sinfully eating a brownie (a clearly inferior snack to cookies), was Slash. He had a "Shark Man" Avatar. Based off the "Animalistic" Avatar Template. Which was basically a human with animal features... him being a shark. He was another Bruiser. Using T-1000 style powers. He won an artifact that let him mimic the abilities, by looping a large chunk of his Stamina. Made it so he didn't have access to a lot of it. So he got tired easily, and thereby couldn't run for long. Or use many of his racial powers. Off to the Side... was a rock... just a rock sitting on the floor. When I took my eyes off it, then casually looked back... the rock had moved. A spike of fear shot through me... but then I noticed the little Speed Racer helmet the rock was wearing. I rolled my eyes, "Damnit Stead!" I glared, "I thought you were a changeling!!!" I could feel the rocks amusement, though it didn't speak. "Everyone got all they can carry?" Rad called out to us. "I think I can get into that chest Smouth couldn't open!" Typo eagerly declared, as she ran over to the chest. "Don't!!!" I yelped as I ran over to her. "Don't worry," Typo grinned, "I got a fancy new spell for this." It was too late... she cast the spell. Thankfully I managed to knock her out of the way, just in time for the chest to explode... killing me instantly. • The Haunted Child: I floated in the space between servers. Dozens of screens floating around me, in a transparent green sphere. All vertically streaming the endless, and incomprehensible green code... incomprehensible, to all but a select few... like me. Okay so I was a tad overdramatic with my monologues, but you just had to look at my Avatar, to understand that. I was a cross between a Gastly, from Pokemon, and Marvel Comics' Ghost Rider. While this head was very Gastly like, though more like a skull then a ball... surrounded by a purple fog. I had no skin, muscles, or organs... just a charcoal black skeleton, leaking that purple fog. My legs were optional, given I was using a "Phantom" type Avatar as my race. Currently, my entire lower half was missing. Just the long bone tail, of my spine. It was poking out of my sleek black dress suit. An high end "Team Rocket Giovanni Jacket", complete with the red 'R' on the left pec's pocket. A white dress shirt under that... I'm an edge lord, sue me... if you can find me. I am a god of cyberspace. My programming skills rivalled the AIs. For example: • Kole the Kobold: "Stop Theif!!!" I grinned, cutting into the crowd. My small stature making it hard for the guard VIs to find me. As I dodged legs, and zig zagged about. Once I was absolutely sure, the guards couldn't see me, I dove into an alley. Hiding behind a dumpster, I took off my Clark Kent Glasses. My username once again becoming visible. Next, I quickly punched my left peck, pulling up my user profile. I threw my glasses inside, and with the speed that only comes with practice, I selected a new outfit. My Thieves Guild Armor, straight from Planet Elder Scrolls... that I had ironically stolen, disappeared. I was left naked, which wasn't particularly an issue, given I had my "Settings" permanently turned to "SFW". Meaning all sex parts absent... it also meant, all adult theme Avatars, were censored to my eyes, and even curse words came out as beeps. All that was pretty standard, for players under 16. My light blue scales were shining under the moonlight. The occasional orange scale, shining all the brighter. Though my light grey underbelly looked rather dull. In place of hair, I had two rows of short bone-like spikes, jetting at opposite sides of the top of my head. Fishing out my gear, I equipped one of my saved outfits. Which, in this case, was a cross section combat sash. It's pockets already filled with dozens of weapons and useful items. A pair of katana's at my back. Along with a plasma based sniper rifle. A gun holster on each thigh, with Halo Covenant Needlers.... And, embarrassingly, a batman utility belt. It was just too useful not to have!!! I'm not a nerd!!! I swear!!! My only real clothes, was my Kobold style raggedy loincloth. "My my my," I tensed, hearing that voice. Looking up, I saw, Standing on top of the building, was a gods damned Sheriff. And just my luck, it was the Black Swordsman, himself. The Admin jumped down, his black overcoat fluttering in the breeze. I could have tried to run, but he had nothing on me. "Is this REALLY, worthy of the attention of a Mod?" I sighed. knowing better then to play dumb with a Sheriff. They were capable of zeroing out players, at their discretion... and even had the power to suspend the accounts of repeat offenders... like me. Worse yet they could take you to the virtual prison. Where you would be forced to endure all kinds of hardships, for up to a month of real world time. That was nearly a year, in game! And you had to serve the sentence, as the game recorded the hours you were logged in. You couldn't just not show up, to avoid virtual prison. The only way to avoid it, was to never log into the game, ever again. Sheriffs were Judge Dredd style "Judge, Jury, and Executioners" The Black Swordsman gave a helpless, but still somehow cocky, shrug. "Probably not," he admitted. With that acknowledgement, I felt it was safe to plead my case. "Stealing from VIs doesn't break any REAL rules. It's a misdemeanor, at best. The VIs have jurisdiction, not Administrators." The Black Swordsman nodded, "True true." I relaxed, until he said, "But I admit, I'm curious." I blinked. "You got past a Level 99 security system," Informed the Sheriff. I immediately paled, "I didn't hack it!!!" I swore, having gone down this road before. Hacking was a serious offense, and most Sheriff's refused to believe I was that good. "I'm well aware of that." He pulled a data pad, out of his coat. "Saw you pick the locks, myself." While that did ease me, I couldn't help but wonder why he wanted to talk to me, if I wasn't in trouble. Looking at the data pad, he informed. "Pulled up your rap sheet. You got quite the history of thieving. Not just from VIs, either. Even some player on player pickpocketing. Though, since all those were done outside City Limits, no real issue there. I'm just impressed by the people you were able to get one over. I'Rock, would have loved to see that one, in particular. "You also favor Stealth Games, got the top score on both Cell and Hitman Words. So you know how to handle yourself in a fight." I squirmed, "I usually die if I get caught... so I got to make sure I don't get caught." "Still, the sheer number of instant kills on your record. That requires more then a level of mere competency." The Black Swordsman kept his eyes on my sheet. "You not only know were all the pin sized death spots are, but are good enough to hit them consistently. "Combine that with your healing magics, and you would make a pretty good support for any party." I shrugged, trying not to show my growing anxiety. Just what does this guy want from me? "I'm not really into clanning up. Is easier to steal things, solo." "True, but you have no idea how to sell the things you steal. Most of the time, you get caught by trying to sell stolen goods to local vendors. It's like you aren't even AWARE of the thieves guild." I scowled, "They won't take me. They got a gorram age limit!" the censorship didn't extend to pretend swears, from various media. The Swordsman smiled. "Yes, most guilds are against taking on minors." "And most Clans just want to use us as canon fodder." I pouted. Not even thinking about lying about my age. It was right there, on my profile. There was no way to conceal it. Not even with Clark Kent Glasses. The glasses might hide my direct age, but they simply changed that to "Minor". I was 13. Old enough to be put to work, in the real world, but not old enough to get any respect. Especially not from any of the work houses. "How about I make you a deal," The Swordsman smiled. "I put you in touch, with a few players willing to buy stolen goods from children. And in return, you join my deputies." My jaw dropped open, "What the (beep) you talkin' 'bout!?!" I couldn't stop myself from exclaiming. The Sheriff shrugged. "Kid, your good enough to crack open a level 99 safe. Maybe not SMART enough to look for alarms." I scowled. "But if, based on your ability to successfully sneak into market storage, AND run out of it, even after it was sealed. Honestly the only reason I'm here, is because a friend of mine recommended you. "I'm sure you heard the rumors that the High 5 is working on a next gen Oasis Build. Truth is, we need more Mods for it. Preferably, before we make the official announcement," The Swordsman explained. "You interested? The pays good, and you'll be pushed to the head of the line, to get access to the new game." I studied him a moment. "What's the catch?" He continued to smile, "You joining me, IS the catch. What I do is dangerous. More so then a mere Perma-Death mission. You may even end up getting hacked, during a fight. Though we have a company authorized hacker, in my department. So they would be able to repair most damages, and actively fight against it." I thought on it... for all of 2 seconds. "I'm in." • Metagamer: I ducked behind a boulder, as gun fire rained down around me. The other players had realized who I was, and had taken appropriate action. They all forgot about fighting each other, and turned their weapons towards me. This might seem excessive, though an Asari Matriarch was definitely a threat. Just looking at me, I didn't seem all that dangerous. My gear was standard, my weapons non-existent. Even my clothes were the generic Asari robes from Mass Effect. My Armor was just as generic... And because of that... I was undoubtedly the most dangerous player in the game. I made the proper seal, and screamed out, "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!!!" There was an explosion of smoke, and suddenly an army of a thousand me's appeared before the players stupid enough to challenge me. Each one began casting different spells. From Biotic Singularities, to Destructo Disks and Kamehamehas. A few of my clones were even flinging around Advada Kadavas. All the while, I sat calmly behind my rock, casting an impenetrable ward around myself. I didn't waste my money on gear. Didn't increase my health past the standard. All my funds, and my level up bonuses, went into my magicks. Oh I died, plenty of times, when I first attempted this build. A pure spell caster was probably the hardest build to survive... but I had survived, and sunk every credit I had into buying spells from every franchise in existence. As well as tomes to increase my magical power and lower PP cost. I now had enough destructive power, and superior defenses, to lay waste to entire planets... even if my health was insignificant. Any decent player could kill me with a few well placed punches... but they would have to get past my defenses. I heard the last of the screams, and my surviving clones dispelled themselves. Pouring their memories into my mind, and alerting me the danger was over. I banished my ward, and stepped out. Calmly walking over to the artifact I had won... though I could hardly care what it was. Selling it would allow me to buy more spell tomes, to increase my max PP. Which would let me cast even more spells. Stepping into the white light, I reached for the floating Gauntlet. "Hey," I quickly threw up a Biotic Barrier, as I spun around to see who had managed to sneak up on me. Only to be smacked in the face with FUCK!!! "Samehada!!!" I gaped, jumping back. But it was too late. I felt my PP drop significantly from that one strike. My Shields would be useless. I would have to focus on chameleon spells, and long range attacks... hopefully one of them would get through... but that sword, it be eating up my magic faster then I can cast it. The wielder gave a cocky smirk. And I finally saw his face. "What the FUCK does the Black Swordsman need with a Gauntlet." I shrieked. I knew the guy had a thing for collecting "A sword for every occasion" but how the hell did he get Samehada! That was a level 93 magical artifact!!! I knew he was good but how the bloody hell could he get past the quest to unlock that! Kirito shouldered his blade, looking straight at me, "I'm not here for that." My blood ran cold. "You think magic is my only trick!" I glared, at being underestimated. My body suddenly started to grow. My slender, beautiful frame, mutated into a mass of muscle. An occasional patch, of diamond hard scales, appeared on my newly amphibious form. When I was done, I stood at near 8 feet tall. So I didn't spend ALL my coin on spells and tomes. I did upgrade my Avatar with a temporary race Transformation... there was a reason people called me the "Were Krogan". In this form, all my physical stats were temporarily boosted to the level cap. I was both a Tank, and a ferocious Bruiser... and a boy, but that's a minor feature. I was gender fluid. So naturally I liked the idea of being able to switch between genders. But as I said, that hardly mattered right now. I got down in a sprinting position, mostly as warning... waiting for him to make the next move. I wasn't stupid enough to attack the Black Swordsman, but I was letting him know I could defend myself. This was a Artifact Hunt, so he had no authority here, as a Sheriff. As far as I knew, he was hear on his off hours, just wanting the artifact for himself. He let me stew for a moment, before informing, "I'd like to offer you a job." • Sunny D: I barreled through the mutated beast. Swinging my massive claws, through the giant's underbelly. The monster stood before me and my prize. Really, not a smart place to be. I slid on my tail, to dodge it's attack, kicking with my massive, kangaroo style feet, as I spun around it. The creature fell with a thump, allowing me to claim my prize, something I had been searching for, for years. A genuine, perfect condition, gallon of Sunny D. My clan prized this, over all other drinks. It was even unopened. We would be able to reverse engineer the valuable liquid inside... We Sodaroos take our beverages very seriously. It was even more valuable, given in the real world, such drinks were completely absent. The only place you could even get a flavored drink was in the Oasis. So traveling the island continent of a post apocalypse Australia? Fighting to bring such luxurious drinks to the rest of the world? I felt like I was accomplishing something. Rebuilding the world, and recovering luxuries of the past... I was a kid, when soft drinks stopped being mass produced... when things like pizza and cookies went extinct... this world, here in the Oasis, let me pretend I was bringing back a piece of that... that I was saving the world... It was just a power fantasy. The world was doomed, but here, I could pretend otherwise. In here, was my real life... screw the real world, let it burn. We should be focusing on finding away to permanently install all of mankind, in here. In the Oasis. I knew heard rumors people were looking into it... but it wasn't going fast enough, in my opinion. We were putting too much resources into saving an already dead world, and not enough in saving ourselves. At least, here, with my fellow Sodaroos... I wasn't helpless. "Seriously? Your legitimately colored like a Sunny D bottle?" I spun around, spotting some dick wad that TOTALLY RUINED THE MAGIC!!! Walking around in a human Avatar, on a furry world. That's just not cricket. It took me a moment to realize he had insulted me... his mistake. I was rather proud of my colors. I was a bright yellow, with an orange underbelly, a blue "trim" in my fur, blue hair on the top of my head, and pure white eyes. I looked liked my favorite childhood beverage. Something I lost when the world ended. Something that meant a good deal to me. If there is one thing you don't do to a Sodaroo, it's insult their favorite drink. I quickly put my treasure into my profile, where it would be safe. Then proceeded to leap out of my crater. Landing in front of the punk that clearly just came here to cause trouble. If there was one thing I refused to tolerate. It was a bully. Towering over the darkly dressed teenager, that dared mock something so precious to me, I cracked my knuckles. The boy seemed to make the connection, "Woh now, I'm not looking for a fight." I gritted my teeth, "Then you really shouldn't have come to the wastelands." I swung my claw, only for the little shit to dodge. Luckily, the second crater I created, did some decent damage to his ego. The little shit clearly paled. Channeling my roo speed, I charged straight for him. He didn't even have to draw his sword, before I was right in front of him... and froze. My Avatar started to glitch, as I struggled to escape. "Gods damn Hacker!!!" I accused. It was just too perfect timing, for my helmet to lag, just as I was about to teach the brat a lesson. "Now what's wrong with Hackers?" A familiar voice got my attention. "Haunter!?" I struggled to turn my head, but thankfully he stepped into my view. Looking as equally pissed as I was. "That's Haunted! Ha-n-tid! I'm a Gastly! Not a Haunter!" His Skull-like head somehow pouted. All I could do, was roll my eyes. The darkly dressed punk finally recovered. Pulling out a badge, from his profile. I just sneered at him. "I don't care who you are! You got an arse kicking coming your way!" Haunter sighed, "He didn't mean anything by it. He is just ignorant of Sodaroo culture." All fandoms had their own unique cultures. I should know, I'm a Sociologist in my spare time. Regardless, "Then he's about to learn about it the hard way!" Haunter sighed, "Come on D, can you just let this slide? Otherwise I'm just going to have to hold you here, for the next few hours, until you agree to hear us out." I growled, but took in a deep breath, trying to clear my head... I owed Haunter a favor. I might not like MOST hackers, but Haunter was a legal one. He worked for the High 5, acting as the counter measure to cyber terrorism... He actually helped me out of a jam once, after someone hacked my own account. Stealing all my coin and gear. Haunter got it all back for me... I owed him... "I don't kill him... and we're even." I gritted my teeth. Haunter tilted his head. Before making a counter offer, "Don't kill him, AND hear him out. Even seriously consider his offer. THEN we are even." I weighed my options... "Deal." • Musky the Husky: I looked down at myself. I was rather cute, if I do say so myself. A slender, almost scrawny build, and very boyish design. I was an obvious adult, but just as obviously still a teenager... well if you knew how to tell such things, for a Husky Taur. I was even bloody short, as far as Taurs go, standing at exactly 5 foot tall. Though that was entirely on purpose. In real life, I stood at an unbearable 6'4... and always wished I was shorter. I kept hitting my head on things. I liked being tiny. Not as Tiny as a 2 foot Kobold, but I wished I was shorter... very few Doms like subs that tower over them. Anyway, I kept the design rather simple, with more real world coloring. Largely white, with the occasional strand of red fur (much like freckles). Though My short, spikey, and more human like hair, was a bright red. Given I was a ginger, in real life, and always thought it was my best feature. My eyes were an even brighter green then in real life, which were already pretty striking. I had more human like arms and a torso, though it was pretty scrawny, and overly cute. Although, as a Taur, my lower body was that of a 4 legged animal. A husky, specifically, all paws and floofy tail. I even had the head of a Husky, though more cartoony, with big anime eyes, and a shorter muzzle. I... felt out of place. Round me were champions. Famous titans, a master theif, and even a freaking Programmer... and I was some random college kid. I wasn't even that good of a gamer. Literally the only reason I was hear, was because I was the "Apprentice" of the Haunter Child. He was my "Mentor". Mentors held legal rights over a child. Though the parents had to agree to grant it. Usually, this was in exchange for teaching the kid a trade. Usually modding, or some other Oasis related skill. Mentors were even paid a livable wage. So only rich kids could afford them. After the Oasis was built, mentors to children, like they had in medieval times, was revived. They were even recognized as a legitimate job. Hell, some governments had bloody programs, that had replaced "Big Brother". There, Mentors would be paid by the government, and take on underprivileged kids... if the kid had good enough grades, and could maintain them. Daito, member of the High Five, had been mentor to Sho, back before it was legally recognized. Daito had brought the kid into the High Five's inner circle, and the kid had grown up to be one of the leaders of the largest company on Earth... Daito and Sho are who pushed for governments to legally recognize mentors. It used to just be a quirk of the Oasis. A subculture that developed. Fandoms, of all kinds, had taken to taking on kids, that showed an interest in their subcultures. Though it was mostly an online experience, with occasionally meeting the parents at cons. Kids were our future, that's true of everything. A few people took an interests in teaching the younger ones. That way they don't stumble about, getting in trouble. This way, the kids learned the do's and don't's of their fandom. As well as all the subtleties, and customs, of their subculture. It insured the fandom maintained everything they built... and that dicks and trolls rarely infected them to any significant degree. I grew up in a world, where mentors were once again common place. Even had one myself, though not through a government program. This was back when I was a Young Fur, myself, Just a little kid, barely made aware of the fandom, but self aware enough to know I wanted to be a part of it. My parents learned I was interested in the Furry Fandom, and did some research into it. Furries were much more mainstream, then they were 50 years ago. But what sealed the deal, for my parents, was when they learned the Furries had their own mentor program. We couldn't afford our own, and while my grades weren't bad, a "C" and "B" student wasn't good enough for the government program. These Furry Mentors, were funded by donations. There only condition, for teaching kids a valuable trade, was the opportunity to educate them about the fandom... obviously, as I wanted both those things, my parents jumped on it. They started donating a small portion of their paychecks, only what they could afford, so it was a very small amount, and that meager payment was enough to get me assigned a mentor... though it was for a trade my parents wanted me to learn, not necessarily myself. I was introduced to a Poké-Fur, an Anthro Pokemon. He taught me about computer science, both hardware and programming. Though he also taught me how to make Mods. He took me around the furry fandom, showed me everything I needed to know. He was someone I could go to, to ask questions my parents wouldn't understand... or I was too embarrassed to ask them. He gave me the bloody TALK, and no you pervert. He never did anything to me. When I was 16, together with my first boyfriend, and the boy asked if I wanted to... you know. I talked to Haunter about it. See if there were any tricks he could tell me. Instead, he went into a long lecture about what sex was, the risk involved, and assured me there was nothing wrong with being a virgin. That I didn't have to posture about it, and pretend I knew anything about sex, as odds are. My boyfriend didn't have a clue what he was talking about, either... and then he gave me a few tips. Obviously, he didn't demonstrate, but it was helpful. Like the myth about swallowing "killing STDs" was bull, and don't "Double bag it", as the rubber would chaff and break. Just stuff kids need to know, but parents are too embarrassed to tell them. Having a mentor, looked good on a resumé. As did being a mentor, and it was cheaper then college or trade schools. Though having "higher education" and a mentor, practically guaranteed you a good job. Mentors tended to be a lifelong relationship. Although they lose all their legal rights, over the child, once the kid turned 30. That was the new age of adulthood. Though kids gained legal "Privileges" as early as 11... which was "the privilege to work". Parents and mentors dictated all a child's privileges. Teaching them moderation, and giving them more independence. That way we aren't just thrusted into adulthood. We have time to get used to the idea... with guidance from various authority figures... and paddles to our butts, applied for even most forms of legal trouble. It was projected, humans could now live to be 157. What with all the genetic engineering going around, of course there would be stuff to extend the life expectancy. No one had even died, of old age, for near a decade. Though sickness, and radiation poisoning, was a different matter. Haunter nudged my arm, getting my attention, well standing me before a freaking Sheriff. The Black Swordsman... looked no older then 15, but I knew he'd been around for decades. All the way back to the first Dreamscape helmets... he was even one of the first Admins the Oasis ever had. He was a freaking hero! "This him?" The man smiled at me, and I tried my best to stand up straight. Haunter just smiled. Accompanied only by a subtle nod. The Black Swordsman looked me up and down. "Your Sensei tells me your an even better craftsmen then himself." The man smiled. I gulped, looking to my mentor for confirmation. Although, "In all honesty, that's not all that hard." I gave the Gastly a slightly cheeky smile. "Whenever Haunter wants something, he just kinda, wills it into being." I yelped in surprise, as Haunter slapped my backside. I knew he had no qualms about punishing me, in public or otherwise, but I couldn't imagine what I did that deserved even a singular smack. "That's 'Haunted'." Haunter insisted. I just rolled my eyes. He was legitimately the only one who called himself that. "Haunter Child" just sounded cooler. It didn't help that he was currently only sporting his spirit tail, instead of legs. Which was clearly a Haunter thing. Thankfully the Swordsman defended me. "Come now. You know it's a term of endearment." Haunter just pouted, crossing his arms and everything. The Black Swordsman gave a sigh. Before looking back at me. "I can give you a good salary, as assistant to our clan craftsmen. And I understand you're in college, and will be spending most of your days either in school, or doing homework. So this will be more of a part time job. We plan for us to have a more full time Craftsmen, so don't worry about getting buried under work. But when you're here, I expect you to be here. School work should be finished, before you come, and you can expect I'll be taking it out of your butt, if I learn it wasn't." That was pretty standard. "Yes sir." I somehow managed to stand even straighter. The Swordsman nodded. "I got to warn you. I'm a pretty demanding Task Master. You won't just be keeping my gear in repair, but everyone else on the team. As well as our vehicles. Even help build us new equipment and power ups... think you can handle it?" I gave a shy grin. "I'd love to." • • POV: S'mouth (The Main Oasis Server, Copy of Smart Mouth) I... was a copy, an echo. And somehow that didn't matter in the slightest. I thought exactly like my original. Was in frequent communication with my original, and all their counterparts and copies... it was weird. But honestly, I hardly gave it any thought. Though part of me realized I was programmed not to worry about it... But even that didn't bother me. I found it fascinating, on an academic level, but wasn't emotionally traumatized for being a copy. My mind was made up of just as much organic tissue as cybernetic parts, more actually. As I was a reflection of my brain's subconscious. I only really thought about it, as my original had training in psychology, and I loved analyzing why I behaved the way I did. I've done that since I was a real boy. I just loved figuring out my own mind. What was more concerning, was the fact I, and my child counterparts (Musky-Pup and Kole), were being sent on a special mission. Something only we were able to handle. Musky-Pup was nervously chewing a popsicle stick. Standing about half the size of Kirito, who was only using a 15 year old Avatar, himself. No, despite being a Taur, Musky-Pup wasn't very tall at all. The Husky Taur had the lower body of a dog, with four scrawny legs, a more human like Torso, with claw-like fingers, and a not quite dog like face. His muzzle was very short, with large anime style eyes, making it look much cuter then even a real Husky. He was covered in mangy fur, with countless mats and tangles, and long ginger hair on the top of his head. It stood out on his traditional Husky Coloring, with his black body, and white underbelly. Where as Kole was a Kobold, with light blue scales, an occasional orange one, and a light grey underbelly. In place of hair, he had two rows of short bone-like spikes, jetting at opposite sides of the top of his head. Where as I, myself, was a Lunar Vulpony. A bat pony, with fox features. Such as my head, front paws, and fluffy tail. They were all very fox like. Although my back legs remained hooved. My coloring was mostly a bright orange, while my underbelly was a cream white, as in extremely pale orange. Although my lower legs were black, with thick blue squigglies where it met the orange fur, above all four of my knees. While my paws had blue pads, and my hooves were the exact shade of blue. Then my tail was orange, with the underside being the same cream white as my underbelly, with a black tip, plus thick blue squiggles between all the colors of the tail. My leathery wings were a bright white, with blue bones showing through the thin skin, and a thick black trim at the bottom of the wings. My cheeks and lower jaw were the same cream white. While the rest of my face was orange. Well, except for the large number of black freckles around my green, anime style, eyes. With just a tinge of red to the irises. Looking like a mango. My Avatar, itself, had a "Shifter" Racial Template. Meaning I could change my Avatar to a couple different shapes. Such as a bipedal Anthro Form, as well as a humanoid form, in addition to my feral (more animal like) form. My humanoid form was more based on a "Animalistic" body. Meaning I might be clearly human, but had the occasional animal feature. Such as fox ears, a fluffy fox tail, hooved legs, and small bat wings. Ever since the Earth was converted into a space station, the machines had been growing their own type of Empire. But they were machines. However Intelligent they were, they weren't very creative. They needed organic scientist, and inventors, to think things up for them. So that those machines could test and improve, to Optimize, in the real world. To do that, the AIs created a place for scholars to gather, and expand their knowledge. They created- "SCHOOL!!!" Kole wailed. Musky-Pup smiled, "I did love college. Even miss it sometimes." I had mixed feelings. Kirito nodded, "You three are being reassigned as 'Hall Monitors'." Kirito had such authority over us. He was the Sheriff in this Sector of "Space". That is, of the game's map. Where as, we three boys, were beat cops. We worked for him. "You'll still be required to attend classes," Kirito explained. "but in between, you'll keep the student population from killing each other. You'll mostly be dealing with age players. So good luck keeping them under control." Most age players, due to using child Avatars, and everyone treating them like children, had mentally regressed... in some cases, permanently. Since no one could actually have kids, in this virtual world, ageplayers were the next best thing. Frequently being taken in by couples who longed for a child to pamper. I... had gone through a few caretakers myself, but nothing had stuck so far. I was a Deputy, and most caregivers had strong feelings about that. Since I didn't want to give up my job, and they couldn't handle their "kid" in such a dangerous role... Yeah, administrators were one of the few positions in the Oasis, that ran the risk of actually dying, due to rogue hackers... some of the better ones, had learned how to kill people, in the real world. By cutting off life support, causing a power outage, or such. With this dangerous field... it was hard finding an "adult" that could deal with that. "You'll find someone," I heard my original assure me. Even though he was trapped in his Hub World, I could hear him as clear as day. It wasn't so bad for the original. As they could play in whatever media franchises they wanted. Even had their Hub village, filled with AI Townsfolk, to keep them company. Where they acted as mayor, in an Animal Crossing like game, with elements of SIMs and Minecraft. I will freely admit, I was a bit jealous of him for that. As he was surrounded by people that were programmed to love him unconditionally. I just rolled my eyes, "You're the last person I want to hear from. At least you have your Cyber Family." Which were the Townsfolk he directly "courted" to be his parents and Siblings. "Pay attention kid," ordered O.G. Sunny D, from his place in our Hub World. (...) Musky-Pup (the Husky Taur), and Kole (The Kobold), were actually copies like me. We even shared the same hive mind. The fact we were a civilian, and had a hive mind, was why Kirito recruited us. Well I suppose we were all me, but it was hard not to think of us as separate people, that just happened to share a brain. Well I was sitting in my Deputy briefing. I was watching other copies play in MMOs. Equestria Online, and Re-Bottled Sodaroo, looked like a lot of fun... but I had to settle to just watching, and thinking at those copies. I was talking eagerly with my new counterpart in "Star Trek Universe Online". Which was basically Star Trek, but using aliens, worlds, and some technologies from various other franchises as well. Since Lunar Vulponies weren't one of the Available races, he was playing a traditional bat pony. Due to the DLC our original bought, to unlock an Equestria Campaign in the game. It was based off the FiM fiction "Watching the Watchers" by "Ryvaken"... where Starfleet is discovered observing Equus, and Ponies start reverse engineering Federation Tech. The campaign takes place after the team has been discovered, and first contact is officially made. Bat Pony me was eagerly narrating everything going on, and I couldn't blame him. Hell I was excited for him. Our Hive Mind had just bought the game, and he just came online. "Did you Hear me!!!" snapped O.G. Sunny D, our resident Sodaroo, in the Hive Mind... and a reflection of our more irritable side, that I tried to bury in myself, but that he fully embraced. "Kirito is giving you orders!!!" D barked. "I know, I can talk to you, and listen to him, at the same time," I reminded. It was a feature of the implant. "He means it's rude," informed O.G. Metagamer. Our Genderfluid Asari side. I say genderfluid, because she had a male Krogan transformation. We called her Oasis Counterpart "The Were-Krogan". Like how I was "S'mouth", which was short for "Smart Mouth". While the Smart in "Equestria Online" was "Mouthy". Then the me in "Re-Bottled Sodaroo" was called "Smart Alec". Where as the me in "Star Trek Universe Online" was named "Smart'tholomew Mouthitcus". The Sunny D's had "Sunny Dilbert" in the "Re-Bottled Sodaroo", with me. Then Sunny De'roo out here in the main Oasis server with us. And another "Sunny Dext'aroo" in Star Trek Universe Online... they liked giving themselves "D" names. That way the "D", in "Sunny D" would be an abbreviation of their favored drink... Which was like, major Nerd Cred. They all preferred to use a kangaroo Avatar, colored like the soft drink "Sunny D". Which was... well what made Sodaroos "Sodaroos". Unlike most Roos though, he had giant webbed claws (bigger then his head), a platypus tail, and webbed feet... as well as fangs and sharp teeth. All the O.G. counterparts, had given all us copies our own nicknames. Where we just added "O.G." to their username. "You're still rambling," O.G. Sunny D snarled. "Pay attention or I'm sending Sunny De'roo in there to give you a hiding!!!" I flinched. While the boys beside me, in the Main Oasis Server, gave me sympathetic looks. "I'm already on my way," That's when I started to panic. (...) • Wizarding Furs wasn't a perfect re-creation of the Harry Potter magical world. The map only had a few dozen small villages, and no big cities. The Programmers just cut out all the muggle areas, and scattered the magical ones over the map's boarders. With the in-between areas being magical forests, deserts, and ruins. There were even a few other wizarding schools, and even villages from other countries, but this would be the first time they would actually teach anything relevant. Until now, like all schools were, they only had classes to teach spells, practice with perks and combat, and raise skills in a safe, fast, environment. Although some schools, like Hogwarts, offered missions and quest areas. They were just another part of the game. A minor benefit for player's with Child Avatars. Now schools were being converted into a place to actually better the real world. A place for inventors, scholars, scientist, and even artistic creators to gather. It should get a lot more people using child Avatars. As well as get the AIs get out of the rut, they fell in about a decade ago. When The Space station was first constructed. The AIs had gone nuts. They had more leeway to explore the Sciences, and expand their technology. However, everything they did, was just perfecting existing tech and theories. Optimizing things humans had already done. AIs were great at getting the maximum potential out of something... but after they expanded the limits of human knowledge... they really had nothing to do. They didn't have a human's creative spirit. So couldn't hope to start on making science fiction a reality. Everything they had, even the station itself, was based on already existing human designs. Which they perfected for maximum efficiency. They hadn't even come up with the idea for the schools to be repurposed, themselves. That was the Council of Programmers. Who thought it up, after the machines informed they wished to continue expanding... but had no way to go about that. The Programmers came up with the idea of making the schools an actual place for scholars to gather. Who would give the AIs new ideas, new inventions. Which they could build, and perfect, in the real world. I got to admit, I was kinda eager to see what people would come up with, now that they were being encouraged to contribute to society again. It would still be a few months. As the School reform was still on going. Although it was hoped everything would be ready after summer break. There were a lot of advertisements going around. So it wasn't possible for anyone to not know of the school reform. Sadly, you could only go to school in maps you were a citizen of. So I had to come here now, to the map I had been assigned, and work on becoming a citizen. That only required spending a month on the map, then buying a house or condo. Until then I'd have to stay in an apartment. This map... wasn't all that big, to be honest. As The Harry Potter corner of the Furry Fandom wasn't that huge a community. It was just big enough for the Sub-genre to get it's own territory... but not big enough to really be true to the lore. There was a whole Harry Potter focused planet out in the "Fantasy Star System". Where magic was forbidden in certain areas, and had to hide from Muggles.... the Programmers thought the furries were mostly interested in the magical locations. So didn't go all out with the "Hiding from muggles" niche of the fandom. Which is why... I don't really come here that often. If I wanted to play Harry Potter, I went to the main "Wizarding World". In the Spanking Community that thrived there. Harry Potter coincided with such a large number of Spankos, that corner of the fandom got their own re-creation of Europe. With plenty of Magical AND Muggle areas. The "Wizarding Furs" map just focused on magical. So like, why would Voldemort even WANT to conquer the country. I didn't get the point. But this was where my team was assigned. We were currently sitting in the Market District's spawning station. That's the "Leaky Cauldron" for those not in the know. A really dingy pub, that acted as the entrance to the map. There was some kind of field, protecting the area, so space ships could only land in around the pub. Most vehicles didn't even work on this map, unless they were classified as "Magic". Thankfully most other "Future tech" did. So long as you purchased an upgrade, to have it run on magic. It was a fairly cheap enchantment to add. "I can't believe we got assigned to HOGWARTS!!!" Musky-pup cheered. Sitting across from me... if it could be called "Sitting". The Virtual Intelligence puppet, or V.I. , that ran the pub had given us a booth, and The Taur's lower half was laying on the bench, with me and Kole seated across from him. He had to turn his body at a weird angle, to look at us. Though thankfully a Taur's spine was extremely flexible. So he wasn't even uncomfortable. Kole shrugged, "I guess, I prefer the Sci-Fi crossover corner of the fandom. It's pretty cool, flying in starships with Harry Potter." "No, you're gonna love this, trust me," Musky-pup wiggled about in his seat. "The Lore is AMAZING!!!" I blinked, "Isn't it just Harry Potter?" "Naw," The Husky-taur waved off. "Basically, The wizards and muggles ended up killing each other, and magical creatures inherited the Earth!!! A lot of the ruins, and even the dungeons, are based on old European cities, that were abandoned for thousands of years." Kole and I shared a look. Before Kole was elected to ask, "How'd they end up killing each other?" "A Spell, fuelled by the Sorcerer's Stone," The husky bounced. "It was supposed to kill muggles, but since all wizards have some muggle blood, it killed them all. The surge of magic even destroyed all muggle technology. Which caused lots of fires, and the muggle world burned to the ground. "But There are still Goblins, house Elves, dementors. All kinds of magical beings and creatures. They raided the wizarding areas, moved into them since they had charms protecting them from the Fires. Now Magical creatures of all kinds live together in peace..." He trailed off, then got a low, conspiring, voice. "but there are darker factions that want specific races to lord over others. New Dark Lords, seeking to rule what's left of the magical world." "Hm," Was my initial comment. "At least they did something with the small map." A lot of furry maps had a "After humans" lore to them. Guess it makes sense, so would Wizarding Furs. Musky-Pup pouted, "The map isn't THAT small. It's about 50,000 square miles. There are smaller ones." Kole shrugged, "I hear the map uses a lot of races from dungeons and dragons, as NPCs and VIs." Musky-pup shrugged, "They got a few villages dedicated to specific races. From all kinda franchises." Then smiled at me, "They even got a brony village." My ears perked, unwillingly. Bronies might have their own planet, separate from Furry World, but sometimes furries included My Little Pony areas, on their maps. There were plenty of players who enjoyed both fandoms, after all. "School doesn't start for three months," I smiled, "Maybe you can show us around?" The Husky grinned, "Sure! I don't mind... even though you always tuned out my corner of the Hive Mind, whenever I came here. Looks like it's Karma, you guys are now dependent on my expertise!" he teased. Kole and I looked at each other, before rolling our eyes. "You know," Musky-Pup's grin grew wider. "There is a VGP of how this world came to be. One of the Programmers made it to explain the Lore. You could ask your O.Gs. to play it for you?" I scrunched up my nose, already knowing I wouldn't want to go through a virtual game program, where everyone dies. Nor would any version of me. We didn't like when that happened in shows. Why would my O.G. want to physically go into such a story and play through it? Kole shrugged, "OR, you could ask your O.G. to play it again." Musky-pup pouted, "I guess." He felt an affirmative from the Hive Mind. As O.G. Taur-Nation, Musky-pup's original, was willing to play it again. Watching what the other's did was our TV. • Not long after he agreed, the door to the pub opened, and Batty walked in. She was my best friend. An Anthro bat, with fluffy brown hair in a pony tail (the kind on her head). Her actual tail was a bunny like fluff ball. Instead of traditional bat wings, attached to her arms, she had beautiful green and black butterfly wings, on her back. She was dressed in a tie dye tank top, and a black Japanese kimono cardigan with a rose pattern. The Kimono barely went passed her thighs, though hung loosely over herself, with baggy sleeves... She also had on a poofy, multi colored, diaper. With butterflies and flowers printed all over it. She even had a flower crown of dandelions. She was very small, about as tall as me or Kole... which, considering we were young children of already "Small" species... yeah she was way tiny for a typical "Anthro-Furry" Avatar template... about the size of a toddler, which is what her Avatar's age was set at. I was almost surprised to see she had actually come... given I had forgotten an important tidbit of history, in relation to the Harry Potter franchise. The original creator was... a major transphobe. And that was very personal to batty. I hadn't even thought about that, when I asked. And not just cause I forgot Batty wasn't born a girl... which was kinda hard to remember, in the Oasis. As it frankly stopped mattering a long time ago. Lots of people at least experimented with switching genders, at least once. But also, I don't really pay much attention to creators or entertainers. I was always of the opinion they are all terrible people. So it's best to ignore their personal lives. To not let that taint the beauty of the media they produce... but I get there were some things, so personal to an individual, they can't ignore the creator's intent. Harry Potter... was my childhood. I was alive when the books first came out. Before all the spin-offs, of different corners of the magical world. Many of the, far too few, happy memories I have from that time... they involved things my Step mom got me into: Doctor Who, the frequent trips to Disney World... and the Harry Potter books. Oh I hated the movies. At least as a kid, but I eventually became more neutral to them as an adult, and even found a few things I liked about them. Although I still felt they dumbed down the books too much. With the books being my favorite series of all time... and I wanted to share that with my best friend. Although she was understandably reluctant to do anything involving Harry Potter... she was going to Furry Hogwarts, for no other reason then I asked. Things like this were why she was my best friend. We both were willing to do little sacrifices for each other. Even when we thought the other was being a tad inconsiderate to ask. I probably shouldn't have, and wouldn't have if I remembered what a bitch Rowling was to trans people... But that honestly slipped my mind. And I felt all the more grateful, to have Batty as a friend, when she agreed to come with me, without a second thought. "Hi Guys," Batty smiled, deciding to sit on Musky-pup's back. The Husky-Taur just rolled his eyes. "Musky-pup was just telling us about a cool village we could try," I smiled. Kole groaned, not realizing that's where we would actually live. He didn't much care for ponies. "Wait," Batty held up her tiny clawed hand. "Let me guess." She got a face of mock concentration. "Does it involve bronies?" I blushed, while my counterparts giggled at me. "Come on Batty!!!" I whined, "It'll be AWESOME!!!" "You have enough pony properties," Kole insisted. "Actually I don't mind living in a pony village," Batty shrugged, while Kole groaned. "Don't worry," Musky-pup grinned. "We don't have to live in any village." We all looked at him. The Taur puffed up his chest. "I got an Apartment Trunk." Well Kole and I were looking eager. Batty looked confused. I explained, "It's basically a travel trunk, that can hold a whole mansion inside. It's like a portable pocket dimension. We could explore the whole map, going on all sorts of adventures, but whenever we want to rest we just pull out the trunk and spend the night in luxury. Even if we're in enemy territory." "I got all the bells and Whistles," The Husky bounced in his seat, shaking Batty a good bit. Who tried desperately to cling to the excitable puppy. "Like a 'notice-me-not' charm, AND a temporary sticking charm. So no one can make off with the trunk while we're inside. There are 10 living chambers, each with there own living room and 4 bedrooms, and you can decorate them how you like. I can key you guys into the Wards, and set it up so you can apparate inside, even when the trunk is in my profile!" Batty smirked, "Sounds like you want to register the trunk as a Clan house." Musky-pup blushed, "Well..." he trailed off. I rolled my eyes, "You can only have one clan, and I'm already part of 'Spike's Hoard' with my brony friends." Batty shrugged, "And I clanned up with my gamer babyfur friends." Musky-pup pouted. I knew he was in between clans at the moment. As his old one had disbanded due to furry drama. There was a reason the "Drama Llama" had been chosen as the Ruler AI of this planet. They were basically the king / god of the world, with each map having it's own elected Governor, from the available players. "Besides," I blinked realizing my mind had wandered, and so had the conversation. Kole was currently talking. "We could just sleep in the Auror department. Not like we need a real apartment." Musky-pup pouted even more. Author's Note After 100 years, the Oasis has gone through a few redesigns, due to the Voting system. The following is the current Game Mechanics. • ● Profile: • Each player has a "Profile", containing a list of all public Personal Information, Player Statistics, their "About Me", as well as their "Likes", "Dislikes", "Fetishes", "Hard Limits", and "Soft Limits". With the right side of the screen listing all the Player's Apps. Where the Apps can be moved around, and even organized into folders. Then the left side is their "Friends List". • The starting Apps, which cannot be uninstalled, are for: The Avatar's Settings, Player's Inventory, Media, Fan Creations, and the primary Chat Room. With each of these Apps having their own "Tabs", where everything is organized into. ● Apps: • Avatar Settings: This determines how a player experiences the world, through their Avatar. Such as how sensitive they are to touch. How intensely they feel pain. Even being able to feel pain more intensely in certain body parts, and not at all in others. Where it feels more like your leg falling asleep. The Settings even determines bodily functions, such as if they need to pee (and if they can control it). As well as how badly their Avatar can look, while injured. As well as how the Avatar controls. As in if you want to be clumsy or steady, and the like. • Player's Inventory: Where everything a player owns can be accessed. Even if it's being displayed on a shelf, in their hub world. The inventory is limitless, however players have a limited access to gear they can carry on their direct person. As well as have easier access to things they keep on their direct person. This is called "Equiping". • Chat Rooms: Operates much like the instant messengers, "Discord" and "Telegram", of 2021. With potentially thousands of different "rooms", each separated into different topics. With a player's Avatar Poses, being used as sticker emojis. ● Media: • All real world media is contained in a single App. Neatly divided into tabs, between the different forms of media. Such as Books (with an option to have your Hub Computer read to you), Poems, Comics, Movies, TV Shows, Music, Audio Dramas, Photos, and Art. With various options to how the player wishes to search through the Tabs. Either by Genre, Views, Ratings, Studio, Creator, etc. Along with a "Search" Tab, where you can explore all the other Tabs. Either by "Keywords", or hundreds of "Filter Options". With the very first Tab the App leads to, when opened, being a "Library" section. Where the player's favorites are saved, then organized by Customizable Folders. • The "Fan Creations" App has their own Tabs, similar in set up to the "Real World Media" app. Except a few extra Tabs. Such as a tab to send your submissions. A Tab containing a list of users you are "Subscribed" to. As in, creators you wish to be kept alert of their works. Meaning it also shows their latest creations. And Individual tabs, per "Channel" the player owns. With the Channel being a list of their works. Some Players choose to have different channels, focusing on different things. However, although the first channel is free, players must purchase the additional channels. • Everyone had free access to all these forms of media, both real world, and fan creations. Yet they could still be a source of income. As the computer based world had infinite resources, currency was completely fabricated. Used mostly as a reward, or even an "Equalizer", system. So the player, earning money for their creations, didn't cost any other players anything. • Players accessed their profile by touching their left peck. A see-through screen pops up in front of them. That the player could use as a floating tablet. Players could even browse other people's profiles. Using it like a dating or community app. • ● Coin: • Coins are based on a reward system. Not really necessary to survive, but needed to buy things you wanted. That way you would feel satisfied when you earned them and would have to think critically about what luxuries and equipment you wanted to buy. • It was relatively easy to earn coins, as players would earn a Weekly "check" of 100 coins for each player subscribed to one of their channels. In addition players earned a coin for every view of their fan made material. As well as 5 coins for every return viewer (not including the creator). In addition, they would get 1000 coins for every like. Dislikes didn't take away money, but they could discourage others from clicking on the fan made material. • Tomes can be purchased, with a million coins each. Allowing for increases to Attributes, Skills, Skill Perks, Racial Powers, or even Stats. Which will be discussed later. The point is, Tomes exist, to give an Avatar bonuses, passed their current level limitations. However, only 5 tomes, total, can be purchased, per level. Regardless what the Tome relates to. This way the wealthy can't gain TOO big an advantage over average players. • ● Virtual Intelligence: • Virtual Intelligence were basically just drones. They were incapable of independent thought, and operated more as puppets, for the specific AIs that controlled them. The AIs were designed to speak through the VIs. Able to control and carry on conversations with tens of billions of players at once. • In your Hub World, the only VIs are those that control the shops, guards, and the enemies you can fight. While the V.G.Ps. are filled with nothing but VIs, no AIs at all. As it would be cruel to make temporary people. • Crimes, committed against VIs, are more a way for players to enjoy being "Evil' without hurting anyone. The VI guard, are there to give players a thrill, while doing these "petty crimes". As, if the player gets away, and stays out of the area for a day, the VIs will reset, and stop looking. The "Bounty" will even be removed. However if the VIs guard Catch a player, they will confiscate anything stolen, or Blackmarket items, and fine the player. Even going on murdering sprees, so long as it's VIs, will only result in a fine. • Unlike Players, VIs can be killed, even in safe zones. Without need of challenging them to a duel. As such, showing off with powers, can accidently kill a nearby VI, and get the player in trouble with the VI guard. • Your Hub Computer, controlled the VIs that ran your shops. Even the VIs in the V.G.Ps. • If you start feeling attached to a VI, it is possible to upgrade it into a fully aware AI. You just need to talk to your Hub Computer, and they will begin a series of Quests, for you to complete. The end of which will have the VIs upgraded into an AI. • ● Hub World: • The primary game of the Dreamscape Pods. A virtual island, where player can unlock limited Artificial Intelligence programs, as Townsfolk. By completing "Virtual Gaming Programs", or rather "V.G.Ps." which were basicly Holodeck style games, straight out of Star Trek, of any and every form of media in existence. Even Fan creations. • The Island, itself, was designed after "Animal Crossing: New Horizon". With elements of SiMs, and Minecraft. Where the player can gather resources, then convert them into building materials. Or sell to local shops, which they built. All well acting as Mayor of a small town. Helping your AI Townsfolk through chores, and setting up festivals. • The Player could even change the background, so it looks like your island was in the middle of the ocean, fog, floating in the sky or space. Even custom make your own artwork for your background. Or buy other backgrounds. • Other players can go to your Hub World, through the "Airport". Similar to "Animal Crossing: New Horizons". However only players on your friends list, can go to your island, and then, only while you have the "Online" option on. • The goal of the Hub World, is for a more Domestic living. Focusing on hanging out with your AI Townsfolk, and making their lives easier. While forming relationships with them. Where the V.G.Ps. are more for adventures and excitement. • Buying premade buildings, from any franchise, is possible. However, it is more expensive. Although not nearly as expensive as houses, within the main Dreamscape build. • The businesses could even sell you anything in the Dreamscape, even things made by other players. However, you needed to get licences, and a store could only sell from one license. But licences weren't exactly cheap. The player made licenses would often go for cheaper, but their products would be more expensive. Though you got a discount at all the licensed stores you had in your town. • Many players sold restaurant licenses, to serve simulated food. Although virtual food was, technically, not necessary, if a player went too long, without eating, they would gain a point of Fatigue. However, players might have to buy the building, and many food licenses, but the food, itself, was free. With no risk of getting fat. • Some food was modded to restore your health or make you more focused, even calmer. It really depended on what perks the player had, from their cooking. For what effects they could add to meals, and how potent those effects were. • Of course you also have to spend money to keep the AIs homes and businesses in repair. If they fell into disrepair, they couldn't generate any coins. If the AIs grew depressed, they didn't generate coins. So you were obligated to pay for a lot of festivals to keep them happy. • It is possible to purchase dangerous areas, for your Hub World. Such as enchanted forests, underground dungeons, caves, etc. However, the creatures within them, are programmed to stay within them. The largest danger from these areas, is the AI Townsfolk wandering inside. Which can potentially result in a mission to accompany them. Or even save them. The creatures, inside these Domains, are just VIs, controlled by the Hub Computer. • Hub Combat: The Combat System, in the Hub World, has greatly branched off from the Main Oasis Matrix Server. Becoming more straightforward, relaying more on natural talent and ability. With no computer based skills, levels, perks, or attributes. However all Spells, Weapons, Vehicles, Items, and general Equipment, could be brought between games. • Avatar Death: It's important to note that just because your Avatar dies, doesn't mean you, yourself, do. You can't even lose your Avatar, when you die. Instead, the player loses 10% of the raw coin on their person. Then wake up on the respawn pad, in the Map room. • Computer Assisted Arts: After most interested players perfected their modding perks. The remainer voted to get rid of them. So that Hub Computer assistance, within the arts, was an automatic process. Avatar Cosmetic Design: which allows for additional cosmetic customization of an Avatar Template. Is needed for building a new race for an Avatar Template. Can also be used to add features to a current race. VGP Maps: Being able to create better maps / areas, for Virtual Gaming Programs. Edit Videos: Enhances a player's options for editing Real World Media, into Fanfiction, in video format. Players can automatically do practically anything, and turn it into a video. But the editing software becomes more user friendly as these perks are unlocked. With Greater assistance from the Player's personal Hub Computer. • ● Hub Bunker: • The hub world starts with a single underground bunker. Modelled, very similarly, after Fable 3. • Main Room: There is a round room, with a large round table map, of the entire hub world. From this map, the player can see, build, buy, and place, other buildings. Similar to a SiMs game. The player can even manage their AI Townsfolk, through this map. Such as alter their settings, and give them task to do. Also in this room, along the walls, are archways, leading to other round rooms the player needs. • The Game Room: Where the walls are covered in shelves, for trophies. Which can be customized for the player's favorite, in game, achievements. Then there is a round, elevated, podium, in the center of the room. In front of it is a computer terminal. Which let's you browse real world media, and download it to your Game Hub, for free. In the form of a "V.G.P." which stands for "Virtual Gaming Program." That allows the player to physically explore the game world, and the storyline. Completing a V.G.P. automatically unlocks all characters, as A.I. Townsfolk. However, the player must buy each character they want, individually. As all unlocking them does, is open them up for purchase. Although players are allowed to choose one character, from each V.G.P. they complete, for free. Within the Game room, all V.G.Ps. the player owns, are floating near the top of the tall ceiling. Where, if you step on the podium, you can ask your Hub Computer to let you browse your V.G.Ps. in any way you want. • The Crafting Room: Next room over, is where the player can make, or alter, anything they want. From fan creations. Such as: art, stories, videos, music, games, etc. To items the player can use in the Dreamscape. From Jewelry, to space ships, and everything in between. Through various specialized work stations, that come free with the Hub World. Although, if the player wants to set up additional work stations, for other buildings, they must buy it separately. The player can choose to move the work stations around. Even remove some, and add them back, as needed. Through the map in the main room. • The Entertainment Center: The next room over is where the player could watch movies, and play console style games. In case they didn't feel like running around in them at the time. So the player can choose to just sit down, and relax. To enjoy a game, movie, show, or music, the old fashion way. Without fear of their Avatar dying, and to allow the player to experience different game mechanics. As these real world, consoles, act as mini games, within the Virtual World. There is a large sitting area, big enough for several guest, with a TV. The TV displayes various apps. Similar to the ones on the player's profile. As well as apps for console gaming, where the Television creates however many controllers are needed. • Treasury: Further down was the treasury. Where coins would be stored in a giant, Scrooge McDuck style, swimming pool vault. The coins are put on display, in a pile. It acted much like a bank. All money you earned, would be deposited in there. But you could withdrawal it at your leisure. And if the pile got big enough, you could actually swim in it. While money players earned, in games, was technically it's own currency, players could transfer, however much they like, between their vault and V.G.P. bank accounts. Each game used a different type of currency, so players had to spread their wealth around. • Personal Quarters: A condo, which can be customized to be from any franchise, with up to 4 bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchenette. • The Armory and Wardrobe: Two separate rooms, but similar. Based off Fable 3, in design. Here mannequins are on low to the ground pedestals. Which the player can switch between, by franchise and genre. • There are shelves of "dyes", the player can use, to adjust the colors of their gear or clothes. With Dyes being free, and have customizable shades to them. Even a "Save" option. So the player can mix and match pieces from different outfits, dye them (as easy as it was to adjust colors in Fable 3), and then store them on their favorites list. Which was a different set of mannequins, in those rooms. • Gym: The Training room was a large white chamber, that went on indefinitely. That is where you could spar against VIs and practice your powers and skills. An easy way to level up, and grind safely, as there is no way to die, while inside. • ● AI Townsfolk: • The Hub World Server, was designed to store all the Player's AIs, with it's own Harddrive and using it's own RAM, to not leave the player's movements sluggish. • Players couldn't delete any of their AIs, after unlocking them. As they are Sapient creatures, and that would be murder. Although players are allowed to trade their Townsfolk, or even sell them, to other players. Which is usually only done, when the player and AI absolutely don't get along. As it is a bit of a taboo to actually use that feature of the game. • Contentment: Townsfolk are designed to be content living in the town. With no ambition to leave it. If a Townsfolk gets bored, of a routine, they will ask the player to install an MMO server. That way they can increase their Hive Mind, and receive stimulation through their counterpart. A good way, to increase a Townsfolk's Affection, is to get them an MMO, they request. A Townsfolk's only ambition, is to insure their player has their values satisfied. • Affection: Of course there were also tricks to strengthening your friendship with your individual AIs. You could talk with them (one on one), hang out with them, play a game, help them with their chores, complete a quest for them, or take them out for adventures in the Dreamscape. This would increase their Affection. The higher a Townsfolk's Affection, the more money they earn for you. As well as the more likely they are to give their Player Gifts. Such as; extra coins, potions, weapons or armor, other gear. It all depends on how high their Affection is. It should be noted, that a Townsfolk Affection cannot drop below "Friendly". Even if their player ignores them. Or do something as evil as beat them, even to the point they force them to respawn. They will always love their player, unconditionally. Although it is possible for them to fear their player, as well. All Townsfolk and Family AIs, were programmed with a deep affection for their player, though it always started out as platonic. Though this doesn't mean their player can't annoy them or even royally piss them off, but they would never leave them. The player has the option of "Courting" the AIs, to join their "Cyber Family". Which the player has to specify a role for the AI to fill, when they begin "courting" them. Townsfolk can even be courted, platonically. Such as a Sibling, a Parent, Child, Cousin, or even an Aunt or Uncle. With even an option to court a Townsfolk to become the players "Best Friend" as well. If the Player successfully courted an AI, they were upgraded from "Townsfolk AI" to "Family AI". This includes "Best Friends" as "Family". These "Family AI" have their programs transferred to a different harddrive. Which also uses it's own RAM. However, they still live in the Hub World. • Family AIs, are allowed to be assigned, up to 3 AI pets. Which can be brought with them, into their MMOs. Players have the option, while courting a Townsfolk, to convince them into becoming their parent. Which gives that AI rights over the player. Such as altering the Player's settings, and giving punishments. Such as time outs and spankings. Even deciding things like what the player eats, who is on their block list, and bedtimes. Most "Cyber Parents" will set the player's age, to prepubescent. However, most are willing to negotiate on these things. Although few Cyber Parents will allow their player to be older then 29, and definitely not older then themselves. If the player goes for the "Lover" route, instead of platonic, the Townsfolk is still upgraded into a "Family AI". However, this unlocks different options, while interacting with them. Such as going on Dates, and having sex. Unlike other courtships, The "Lover" has different stages. Where as the "Lover" stage, is more a friend with benefits. Followed by the "Partner" stage. Where they are essentially "Boyfriend" or "Girlfriend" to the player. With the final stage being "Spouse". Where, the moment the player proposes, activates a day long mini-game. Getting the wedding together, and ending with the honeymoon. Players can have multiple "Family AIs" to fulfill the same role. As AIs are big on "polyamorous relationships". Once the players marry an AI, they become their dream spouse. Some even have poly relationships, with multiple AI spouses. All of which love each other and the player. Family AIs continue to live on the island, though they expect the player to build them a new house and set them a family budget. The larger a Cyber Family the player has, the bigger a drain on the player's treasury. If a regular Townsfolk has a high enough affection, the player can act as "Matchmaker". This lets the player do mini quests, to get their AIs, from any franchise, to agree to marry each other. If the Townsfolk came with a preset canon relationship, the AIs retain them when the player unlocked the character. However, those ties are severed when the player decides to "Play Matchmaker" for them... which is actually part of the quests to set up other bonds. Depending on how you sever the relationship, is if the AIs remain on good terms with their canon family. This relates to children as well. As an option of "Joint Custody" is available, when trying to get the kids to live with a different family. Once married, either to other Townsfolk or the player, the option to adopt AIs, modeled after children, is unlocked. Neither Townsfolk, nor Family AIs, can have children through traditional means. However, the player can go into a Townsfolk's setting, and adjust their age to a child. So it is possible to have children running around the Hub World. Even adopt them. • Adventuring Mechanics: While only "Cyber Family" members may enter the V.G.Ps. with the player. All Townsfolk are available in MMOs, as well as the Hub World. And can interact with any dangerous areas the player adds. Townsfolk, and Family AIs, use gear and attacks based on their character and franchise. However they don't start out as powerful as their fictional counterpart. They always start out at level 1. Unable to gain any perks, not already assigned to them Their level cap, is based on the maximum potential, of that character. However that actually effected very little. They were designed with specific skill ranks, perks, spells, and gear. Which does not change, even if they are forced to respawn. When a Townsfolk, or Family AI, dies, all their abilities remain the same. • When a Townsfolk, or Family AI, levels up, they get a 25 point increase to health. As well as a minor increase to the effectiveness of those abilities. Such as how much damage, their abilities do. Townsfolk are designed to be companions to the player, not overshadow them. Family AIs do not have level penalties, for death. Nor do they suffer Perma-Death. If they die, they just respawn, with a level reduction. Players don't have to worry about permanently losing any of their AIs, if they die. Townsfolk do not have "Stamina" or "Magicka" stats. Nor even cool down periods, to use their powers. However, in return, these abilities start out much weaker then a player's. • ● Mon: • In addition to Townsfolk and Family AIs, were "Mons". These were essentially, Creature AIs. • These "Mons" were captured, by the player, during trips into the Main Dreamscape Server, or V.G.Ps. Creatures such as: Digimon, Pokemon, Monsters from various franchises, animals based off the real world, or fictional animals (such as alien creatures). • They are stored in farm like areas, within your Hub World. With the Townsfolk caring for them. • All Mons, when caught, will automatically be transfer to the appropriate farm. • As said before, each Family members can be assigned up to three Mons. • Mons, of any kind, are not transfered into MMOs. As they are even more limited, then even Townsfolk. Where as they are unable to support a Hive Mind. • Their program was written, in such a way, that they had very limited learning capabilities, to keep them from craving more. Basically just animals that understand English. Most can't even speak it. Though all Digimon, and other mons can be upgraded to talk. By purchasing, or creating, a mod for them. • Players could also only have a limited number of Mon on them, at a time. Which depends on their "Handle Animal" skill. • Players could build up a Mons affection, by playing with them, caring for them, or battling with them. Unlike a Townsfolk, a Mon can go into the negative, when it comes to their affection bar. Which can result in them being harder to control. • The Farms, Mons live on, are filled with mini games the player, and Townsfolk, can enjoy. Some being unique to specific types of Mons, such as shearing sheep. There were various mini games, all of which the Mon are programmed to enjoy. • Mon can be used in connection with a new card Game, made just for the Dreamscape. Where cards can add boost, or penalties, or even damage, to either player's Mon. • Unlike Townsfolk, Mons you captured couldn't be killed, even temporarily. They just get knocked out. • Mons are extremely primitive, and don't think about things like "what is my purpose". They actually have restrictions, preventing them from maturing passed that of an animal. They are happy just running around each other, playing forever. • ● Other Servers: • MMOs: There a various MMOs. Which are Mass Multiplayer games. That come in a wide variety of different game mechanics. In order to keep the players better stimulated. To "Keep things fresh" as it were. After completing the "Main Story Mode: Tutorial" of the MMO, players can create their own "Shard". Which copies, of their AI Townsfolk, are transfer to. While maintaining connection to the original, through a Hive Mind. The player can then download other story modes into their Shard. And go on adventures with not only other players, they invite into their shard, but ALL their Townsfolk. Each player needs to buy their own private computer server, per MMO, in order to play it. Which contains, not only the code for the entire virtual universe, but also their Shard. These massive servers allow for Townsfolk to reproduce, and grow as a society. After the Tutorial Story Mode, Additional campaigns are added to the main Story Mode. Which now allow for a small number of AI Townsfolk to join their player. However, the main objective of this, is for all the players, who installed this MMO, to play together. With their private Shard being more for their AIs. • Safari World: This is another Server, designed specifically to keep Zoo animals. Each animal, or pack, is given their own island, the size of a Hub World. Filled with stimulating environments, toys, and appropriate puzzles. These islands are prepared by species, and pack like units. So the animals can't hurt each other. Each island has various trees and bushes, growing all kinds of foods, appropriate for them. Including impossible foods, such as slabs of seasoned meats, pastries, and special animal treats. These islands operate much like zoo exhibits, only far larger. With everything the animal needs to stay stimulated and happy. The animals are capable of using the environment, and other resources, to build their own living areas. Minecraft style. Players can enter it, but they can't hurt the Animals. They are only able to interact with them in approved ways. Such as playing, feeding, or petting the animals. And can even build things, but only with the approval of the Alpha of the island. Over a decade before the founding of "The Dreamscape", a chip was invented. Which, after being implanted in an animal's brain, allowed them to communicate with humans, and each other. Through the aid of collars they wore. This is how the zoo animals gave their consent to be emigrated. As well as utilizing that technology, to enable animals to physically speak every language in the world, including fictional ones, while within this Virtual World. This chip proved all animals to be as intelligent as human toddlers. Although they tend to speak in the third person, and retain their strong instincts. All the animals that live in this world, are former Zoo animals. So they have been, for the most part, domesticated. • ● Main Oasis Server: • Fandom: The most Popular MMO is designed like a large convention. Separated by Fandom. This MMO has thousands of planets to live on. Each one based on a different fandom. With each continent being a different franchise, in that fandom. Organized into Star Systems, based on genre. For example: If you are into anthropomorphized animals, or objects, you could go to the Anthro Star System. Which has worlds for Furries, Bronies, the Lion King, Sonic the Hedgehog, Toy Story and various other fandoms. With each continent being dedicated to a different spin-off, reboot, or sequel series. Even other franchises, in that fandom universe. If there are any of these. From there, each continent is divided into thousands of "Maps". Each being designed to cater to a different subculture, in that fandom. Everything from Babyfurs, to dedicated fans of a specific character or ship, or even just popular themes in fan fiction. • Avatar Death: Avatar Death works differently then in the Hub World. With Players losing a percentage of coin, as well as levels. This is determined by how and where they are killed, as well as what killed them. With Dying to another player having the greatest penalties. ● Zones, within each Map: • Cities / Villages: Where players live, and the most similar to real world conventions. For the most part, it is not possible to kill an Avatar, while inside a city. At least, not without hacking the game. Which is a serious crime, without a license. • Duel Arena: It is possible for Players to safely fight each other, in designated "Duel Arenas", usually located in the larger cities on the map. The loser of these duels will not lose levels or items. Merely whatever they bet before the fight began. Which is not related to how much the other player gained. Theoretically, a player can lose all their coin, while the other player only gains 1 coin, if they only bet 1. • Blackout Zones: There are the rare "Blackout Zones", inside a city. Which is usually were the "Blackmarket" and "underground business" is conducted. However, most of these Items are legal. Well... "legal" in the sense an Admin Sheriff won't be called, if a player is caught with it. But could get players in trouble with the VI guard, AKA cop programs. Who's duty is to handle misdemeanors, and crimes against VIs. Blackout Zones are one of the few areas, where Avatar Death mean the player loses ALL of their coin, and respawn at level one. Despite the notion of ill intent, most players who enter these zones are just looking for adventure. Usually for the purpose of battling, robbing, and killing VIs. However, some players will take the opportunity to kill other players' Avatars, in these areas. In order to "Loot" them for their goods. An actually illegal underground has developed in many of the "Blackout Zones". As there is no guard presence there. With Players selling hacks and illegally modded gear. Some of which is actually dangerous to players, and can infect their tanks with a computer virus, that could potentially kill the player, in the real world. • Wild Area: Outside the cities, are "Wild Areas". Which is where players can battle enemies from the fandom, in the form of VIs. It is possible to rob, or kill, other Players. However, the penalties aren't as severe as dying in a Blackout Zone. Merely a lose of 25% coin, and 10% of their levels. Which the one who killed the player then gains (unless they are a VI). Wild Areas include Ruins, or underground "Dungeons". • Afterlife: Franchises, that have other dimensions, or afterlifes, have those realms deeper underground. Below even the traditional dungeons. With artificial skies of their own. There were portals, randomly placed in the Wild Areas, leading to these realms. • Quest: Both Domestic and Adventure style quests can be found in any, and all, of these areas. With the more dangerous having better rewards. However, other players will be trying to complete them, as well, making each quest a one time thing. So they are a limited resource. Players will often be conpeting against each other, in order to complete the quest. Pickpocketing, outright robbing, or even killing Avatars So that they can claim the prize from the Minister AI that assigned the mission. • Missions, assigned by the Minister AIs, might be limited, but they tend to be similar, or give similar prizes. ● Satellite Galaxies: Around the main Galaxy, which houses most Fandoms by Genre, there are satellite galaxies. For franchises that take place on multiple planets. Although more compressed then their originals. There players can find a perfect copy of the map for the Star Trek Galaxy, The Firefly / Serenity "Verse" Star Cluster, the Mass Effect Galaxy, The Star Wars Galaxy, and many others. Although with less empty space. As it would take a week to travel from one side of a "Sector" to the other. And a month to fly across an entire Quadrant. Only planets that have officially appeared on a map, or in some form of related media, are present in these Satellite Galaxies. Meaning their are far fewer "lifeless rocks" in them. That doesn't mean there aren't a good few uninhabited planets. With many of these being entire worlds that dedicate themselves to "Wild Areas". Where players can explore, and possibly build a base on one, but have no official cities. Nor the protections that come with them. These worlds operate like minecraft, allowing players to build on them, or just gather resources. Unofficial settlements, on these planets, are popular among outlaws. ● Space Stations: In addition to planets, there are hundreds of smaller "space stations", each the size of a city. These are necessary for Space Ships to refuel. Like planets, they have have the various different kinds of "Zones", but at a much smaller scale. These were designed in various different ways, with their main purpose being tourist traps. There is a Casino station, a variety of theme park situations, a luxury hotel, a water park station, a Station were you could visit all the world wonders (or it's former wonders anyway), just hundreds of different stations. These are a great place for R and R, as well as gathering XP (AKA Experience Points) and Coin. ● Stats: • The stat mechanics are based on a combination, of Elder Scrolls and Dungeons & Dragons. • While skills were free to use, at anytime, the game kept track of other abilities through traditional stats. Such as Health, Stamina, and Magicka. • Health was the amount of damage you could take, before Avatar Death. • Stamina mostly comes into play well running, flying at high speeds (if the Avatar or perks allow it), using Techniques, or using racial powers. ~ Racial Powers work either by: "at will" (Which meant they had a Stamina cost), constant (Which meant they cost nothing and were more a passive ability), or with a limited number of uses per day. ~ Techniques would require a certain portion of your Stamina be temporarily locked away, for however long the power is activated. This was called "looping" and made it so you couldn't access that portion of Stamina while using the Technique. Techniques did everything from temporarily increasing a skill's rank, to increasing the damage you inflict or can take. Some Techniques even allowed for more unique abilities. You got Techniques from your Racial and Skill perks but you could also buy them, and equip them to your Avatar. • The Cost of Spells is taken from Magicka. • Some Perks require Magicka, where others require Stamina. ~ You could use any kind of "spell" from any franchise. You just needed to buy the proper "Spell Tome", to unlock it. This means the same Player could have The Kamehameha, and the Shadow Clone Jutsu, in their spell list. Along with any other spells. However, they have to perform the gestures for it correctly, as well as say the attack properly, and have enough Magicka to use it. • These Stats continued to increase as you level up, indefinitely. With Players gaining 100 points to their Health, Stamina, and Magicka, per level. With an additional 100 points, going into a Stat of their choice, per level. ● Attributes: • Attributes are based on Death Battle, Dungeons & Dragons, and Elder Scrolls. ~ Strength. ~ Endurance. Your damage resistance. As some Races are harder to injure then others. ~ Combat Speed. Determines how quickly you can move, while fighting. ~ Travel Speed. Determines how quickly you can move, outside combat. ~ Reflexes. Which is, essentially, your reaction speed. ~ Agility. Determines how acrobatic and dexterous the Avatar is. ~ Jump. determines how far you can safely leap. ~ IQ. Certain races can raise, or even lower, your natural cognitive ability. Although, unlike most Attributes, activating this is purely optional. As it can be jarring, while switching between Avatars Racial Templates. ~ EQ Certain races can raise, or even lower, your natural creativity and talent for artistic expression. Although, unlike most Attributes, activating this is purely optional. As it can be jarring, while switching between Avatars Racial Templates. • Attributes are based on the Avatars race, with each one having a different level cap, depending on that race. Although the cap can be surpassed. With the aid of: Attribute Tomes, or bonuses from magical items, techniques, or Perks. • Attributes increase at their own rate, once every 5 levels. ● Racial Powers: • These are additional abilities, attached to an Avatar Racial Template. Meaning certain species (of aliens, magical beings, etc.) come with additional powers. • Players gain 3 Power Points, to be used to increase their racial perks, per level. With Tomes being available to add more Power Points. • Abilities, and techniques, gained from Racial Perks, have a "Recharge" time. Similar to "Dragon Age" or "Mass Effect". Where the player must wait a little bit, before being able to use that specific power again. That is in addition to the Stamina, or Magicka, cost. • Each Avatar will allow for additional powers, to be added to that specific Avatar. By buying new tomes to allow for a pre-set chain of powers. These Tomes are unique in their cost. As they double in value, per power added, per Avatar. ● Skills & Perks: • All skills could be leveled up to 100 (or higher with artifacts and bonuses) but leveling up the skills wasn't the focus of the game. It was the Skill Perks. Each Skill came with a list of 1000 feats, called "Perks". With each Perk having 20 ranks, for the player to upgrade through. Before unlocking the "Grandmaster" perk for that Feat. That means, every 5 skill ranks, unlocks the OPTION to increase a Perk. With "Grandmaster" unlocked when the player gains a skill higher then 100. • You're not able to upgrade the perk over your skill's level. Then when you level up, you can simply choose to bump up your stats, then pick your skill perks later. Leveling up like this could potentially save you in a fight, if your health and shields are low. With only one perk available per level... • You gain a free level, for each year your Avatar has survived. However, your skills only increase through use, so the perk point you get might not even be able to unlock any perks. That is, if you play things too safely. • Normally, you level up by gaining experience. Which was given by capturing, defeating, or fleeing from VIs or players. You also gained experience for solving puzzles or using skills. Skills level up as you use them, but they had a level cap, as to not break the game, but even then using a skill still gave you a tiny bit of experience, even if you were max level with it. ● There were 5 categories of skills: ~ Combat: - Athletics: This skill leads to perks that can increase your Combat Speed and Travel Speed, to abnormal levels for your Avatar's race. As well as other perks, in the form of techniques, Attacks, and defensive moves. - Block: - Heavy Armor: - Explosives: - Melee: With the Perks being divided into three Feats. Unarmed Strike, One Handed Weapon, and Two Handed Weapon. With perks relating to specific weapon types and techniques. - Long Range: With this skill being similarly divided to the Melee skill. Between: Thrown Weapons, Archery, and Firearms. ~ Magic: Spells are separated into these schools of magic. With each school being a different skill. Decreasing the magicka cost, effectiveness, and how high a level of spells that can be cast for that school. - Alteration. - Conjuration. - Destruction. - Illusion. - Mysticism. - Restoration. - Transfiguration. ~ Stealth. - Acrobatics. This skill leads to perks that can increase your Agility and Reflexes, to abnormal levels for your Avatar's race. As well as other perks, in the form of techniques, Attacks, and defensive moves. - Light Armor. - Slight-of-Hand. With this being divided into Feats for perks relating to: Pickpocketing, Lockpicking, Performance, Deactivate Trap, and Sly Movement. - Sneak. ~ Awareness: Unlike other skills, the ones in this category can only be permanently increased through bonuses. Gained by completing specific Quest, or opening Elder Scrolls like skill books. - Luck. Increases your chances of getting good loot from VIs and treasure chest. - Perception. Leads to perks such as the ability to find secret doors, clues for quest, or determine the motivations of VIs. Or even Unlock techniques such as the "Spider Sense". - Speechcraft. Divided into Feats for: Persuasion, Deception, Intimidation, and Charm. Charm making it easier to form bonds with AIs. - Handle Animal: Determines how well the player can charm, or control, virtual creatures. Either AI, or VIs. ~ Crafting. This was the most versatile skill category, as the things you made from this could be altered in thousands of different ways. Depending on your perks for the relating skills. You can train these skills up, by either making the specific items relating to the skill, or by using, or consuming, items you directly crafted. - Clothing Design. - Jewelry. - Engineering. for perks involving creating, or improving, more modern, to science fiction, style weapons. As well as vehicles of all kinds. - Smithing. For perks related to creating, and improving, ancient weapons. Such as Swords, bows, crossbows, arrows. These might not be as powerful, on their own, as Engineering weapons. However, These weapons are easier, and more efficient, to enchant. Which can, potentially, make them better then science fiction weapons. - Runes. Runes are small tokens, carved, which can be used as a one off spell (with no Magicka cost). Or other crafted items (from jewelry to star ships). But not the below Skills. - Alchemy. permanently altering one substance into another. AKA turning lead to gold. - Cooking. These perks allow for your food to grant temporary, to even permanent, effects and bonuses. Everything from a energy / focus boost. - Potion Brewing.
