//-------------------------------------------------------// High School Sweethearts -by LunaEclipsed011- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Love Letters //-------------------------------------------------------// Love Letters The note, black writing on a small rectangle of purple paper, fell to the floor at Twilight’s feet on Wednesday morning. At first, Twilight just stared at it. It laid on the floor, face down. She looked from left to right, trying to trace the source of the letter. She scanned her locker for any clues. Then, she bent down and scooped it up. Princess Twilight, The letter began. So proper, Twilight thought. You are like one thousand roses on a spring day, the pleasant breeze as summer turns to autumn. My heart only beats for you. All of Canterlot should quake at your beauty. And it was only signed with a heart. Twilight read over the note countless times. She turned it over, checking the back for anything that could tell her who had written the note. Her search was fruitless. She wondered who could have written the letter. None of her friends carried this handwriting, scratchy yet still elegant. It was captivating. Twilight traced her name written on the paper with her finger. She placed the note carefully on the top shelf of her locker and gathered her books. The signal bell rang. Twilight sighed. Her quest for the secret writer would have to continue after classes. … Twilight sat in her second class of the day, staring at the chalkboard. Vaguely, she was listening to the lesson and hearing the instructor’s voice. But in her head, she was lost in a dream. Nobody has ever spoken of me like that before. I wonder who they are. Oh, how I wish to find them. I hope they are smart, kind, and respectable. Imagine how lovely that would be. To go out and stumble into love on the first try. We could run a small shop and maybe have a child, all on a beautiful farm and live our perfect lives. Yes, I would like that very much. “Twilight, name the 27th president of the United States.” Twilight snapped out of her daydream, trying to appear as if she had always been paying attention. She wracked her brain for the information. “William Howard Taft, ma’am.” The instructor nodded. “Very good.” Before she knew it, Twilight was back to her daydreaming. … Twilight scanned the lunchroom, searching for anyone who could have left the note. All day she had been glancing over at student’s notes, trying to match the handwriting of the letter. Alas, she had been unsuccessful. Twilight found her seat at the lunch table she and her friends always occupied. She watched closely as students filed in and out of the room. She clocked each one, looking for ones she found attractive and all the while wondering who her secret admirer could be. Are they cute? Do they have good grades? Will they leave another note? Will I one day discover the truth? Oh, I hope so. Twilight looked to her right and met eyes with a girl she knew from her American History class. Red and blonde hair, gorgeous blue eyes… The girl quickly looked away. “Hey! Earth to Twilight!” Rainbow Dash called, waving a hand in front of her face. “Hmm?” Twilight asked. She integrated herself in the conversation happening at her lunch table. But she couldn’t stop thinking about the blush she thought she saw on that girl. … “But what if it’s a lie?! What if it’s all a prank?” Twilight asked, exasperated. “You’re thinking about it too hard,” Rarity said. “No I am not,” Twilight argued. “Yes, you are. Just quit wondering and ask her already!” Rarity sat up on Twilight’s bed, watching the other girl pace back and forth the length of her bedroom. “But I don’t know who she is!” Twilight cried. Rarity smirked. “She, huh?” Twilight stopped. She just glared at her best friend. Rarity smiled. “Just… get to school early tomorrow and see if you can catch them in the act.” She crossed her arms over her chest, looking proud of her plan. “What act?” Twilight asked. Rarity shook her head and groaned, almost defeated. “Wow, for someone so smart you are really dense. I mean putting something in your locker of course!” Twilight blushed. Yeah, that made a lot of sense. She looked down at the purple note in her hand. It was worth a shot. ... The next day, Twilight walked to her locker in anticipation. She moved faster than usual, eager to see if the secret admirer was leaving another note. She turned the corner and found nobody around the area of her locker. She stood, watching for a few moments. Maybe they hadn’t gotten to school yet? Or maybe they had already left the note inside. She smiled and walked to her locker. She twisted in her combination and pulled the door open. There were few students in the hallways, it was so early. But nonetheless, despite the lack of students, there was a gift left for her. Another note was resting on the top shelf. She grabbed it, turning it over in her hands much faster than the day before. Princess Twilight, Meeting you was like listening to a song for the first time and knowing it would be my favorite. Simple, short, sweet. Twilight smiled, running her thumb over the paper. Again, only signed with a heart. She wished for more, longed to know who was so in love with her they wrote the most beautiful letters. Twilight held the note to her chest, just for a moment. Then, she tucked it away in her locker with the other and shut the door. Maybe a walk could do her some good. … Twilight made her way out to the courtyard of the school, observing the over students and faculty that mingled around her. She passed the fountain and school buildings, finally coming up to the forest that laid behind the campus. There was an old bench at the edge of the forest. She sat down on it, watching two birds, one blue and one red, fly above her. She smiled. Her feelings were conflicting. She wanted to know who her admirer was, but so many what if’s and questions swirled around in her head. Rarity’s plan falling through made her even more confused. Twilight swung her legs, listening to the birds and sounds of nature all around her. It was peaceful, tranquil. Nobody around, just Twilight alone with the forest and her thoughts. … Twilight walked back up to the building, not exactly looking where she was going. She was walking with her head down, looking at the flowers that lined the sidewalk. She suddenly collided with another body, crashing into them and falling to the ground. She bit her tongue to keep from crying out. “Oh my gosh!” Twilight recognized that voice. She blinked and looked up at who she had bumped into. Redhead. Blonde streaks. Bright teal eyes. The girl held a hand out, and Twilight found herself taking it. She pulled herself to her feet. “I am so sorry! My fault, I wasn't watching my step,” she profusely apologized. “You’re fine,” she said. Twilight smiled. And so are you, she thought. Twilight blushed and dropped her hand. Before another word could be said, she ran off into the building. Great going, Twi. Great going. … Twilight hid her face behind her notebook in American History. She kept looking over at the girl. She was beautiful. Cool, confident, suave, it made Twilight feel… something she couldn't quite place. Could she like me? No, there’s no way. Twilight shook her head. There wasn’t a chance, not at all, that the pretty girl with eyes that Twilight could get lost in for days would ever like her, much less leave her notes that gave her butterflies. Yes, butterflies. That was the childish word for the emotions she was feeling swirling around inside of her. A girl liking her back? She looked at the note from this morning she had stashed inside her notebook. It just wasn't possible. … Twilight walked to her locker later than usual that afternoon. She was distracted, thinking she had just bombed a test in her last class. Her mind had drifted too far, focused on Sunset, her secret admirer, and what Rarity said. She just couldn’t concentrate. She was so lost in her head, she bumped into someone. Again. Seriously Twilight?! she chided herself. Watch where you’re going. “I am so sorry! I’m so clumsy today.” She brushed off her skirt. But when Twilight moved to get up, she found something on the floor instead. A purple note, black writing. She reached for it. The girl she had bumped into reached down and snatched the note before she could. Twilight looked up. “Wow,” was all she could say. This had to be the universe messing with her. Without a word, the girl helped pull her to her feet. The hallway was silent, the only sound was their breathing as they locked eyes. “I guess you can’t help but fall for me, milady,” the redhead said with a smirk. Twilight gasped. “Did you leave the notes?” she asked. It was now or never, and she had to know. Silently, she set the purple paper down in her hand. Princess Twilight, Let’s explore the world together, you and I. Will you accompany me on a date? -Sunset <3 Twilight read over the note twice. She smiled. She looked up at Sunset. “Yes. I would love that.”
