Lunch break was just now starting. Normally the day went by fast, classes were easy, given Dash could sleep through just about any lecture with ease, so long as she had her friends notes to copy after practice, she was fine. But today had been a slog just to get through first period. Practice had been an absolute pain, she hadn’t gotten nearly enough sleep from the night before, and it was beginning to show. She’d messed up the simplest of drills. Every time she looked to the stands to find her friends, she’d see him and then do something dumb like trip on her own feet. First period’s professor had decided that today of all days would be the perfect time for a pop quiz. Then in second period there was a test, normally she’d be fine with that given she’d study and cram everything she could into her head the night and hours before the test. This one she’d forgotten about. There was no way she was going to get a passing grade.
“Earth to Dash, you’re up. You okay girl?” AJ asked behind her.
“Huh oh yeah, I guess.” Dash swiped her student ID and headed to their usual table. AJ right behind her. “Hey are we missing somebody?” She asked looking around the table. “Where’s Pinks at?”
“Over yonder with her, and I don’t know how she pulled it off, two boyfriends.” AJ pointed to a table not too far from their own. Pinkie seeing it waved over at them. “You ain’t sick, are you?” AJ asked waving back to Pinkie.
"I mean you weren’t doing very well at practice, no offence. I mean you were good just not uhm for you.”
“And if it’s about the test, you have nobody to blame but yourself Twi and I both shot you several texts trying to remind you to study for it.
“No, it’s not the test, and I’m not sick, though that would explain it.” Dash sighed. “I don’t know how with two boyfriends at once, she can still be so bouncy, while I have one and I’m falling apart at the seams.” She rubbed the sides of her head. “Maybe it’s just a Pinks thing.”
“You have a what?”
“A boyfriend did I hear you right Dash.”
“Who is it?”
“Did I really just say boyfriend?” Dash groaned. “I mean maybe I do not sure yet. We were going to go see the new Terminator, but after he saw me humiliate myself on the field, urgh.”
“You still ain’t told us who it is yet.”
“Yeah Dash come on, come on, spill the bean.”
“It’s not Zephyr is it?”
“No offense to you Fluttershy, but I was not am not, nor ever will I be for as long as I may live, be even remotely attracted to your lazy brother.” Dash answered. “And if he asks you can call me and I will personally explain this to him over the cell phone.”
“That’s a bit harsh don’t you think?” Sunset asked.
“Not really harsh enough.” Fluttershy said causing the everyone at the table to look at her. “I’m sorry was that rude? That was rude wasn’t it?”
“No that was perfectly reasonable Fluttershy.” Dash laughed.
“You told us who it isn’t, but you haven’t told us who it is.”
“It’s simple.” Twilight spoke up. “It’s either Soarin or Quibble.”
“And how do you figure that?”
"Yeah, how'd you do that?"
"It's simple first Soarin is at our school, is single, and is just as into athletics as Dash is. Quibble is her age, is single, and is just as into Daring Do as she is. Those are the three biggest factors for them but there are dozens of other factors that lead me to believing that if Dash is going to have her first boyfriend it's most likely going to be one of those two."
"Well I mean she's got me, It's Soarin." Dash sighed, "but yeah, last night after practice he asked me if I was free today after school to go to the movies, but now,uhg. I had butterflies all night long, and didn't get any sleep, and then just see him at practice messed me up, and then there was the pop quiz, the test, and the days not even half over. Maybe I should just bail."
"No, that would be a terrible idea, if you do that you can count Soarin out of the dating pool. What you need is just relax and put it behind you, and don't let him skimp you on the popcorn. Guys like to buy their girlfriends things. Trust me darling you'll do fine."
"I'm with Rarity, data shows that bailing the first date is negatively correlated to over all time of a relationship, and the quality of that time."
"What Twilight is saying is don't do anything rash."
"You got this Dash."
"Yeah I got this."
"I don't got this." Dash groaned sitting by on the stairs next to the bike rack. She groaned. The last part of the day hadn't been as bad as the first but it was still a challenge for her to even get here. For the first time in her life she felt unsure of herself and she didn't have a single clue on how to handle that. "I should have bailed."
"What was that?" She jumped up hearing Soarin's voice.
"Haha, I probably would have failed." Rainbow shrugged. "On my test in second period. So Soarin, what's up?"
"Not much you have a rough day?"He asked sitting on the stairs next to her.
"Yeah you can say that I mean you saw all my fuck ups at practice, and the day just went down hill from there."
"Ow, yeah, you've had it rough. Tell you what, you need. Ice cream. After the movie we'll go over to the Sugar Cube Corner, I'll get you a banana split. On me."
"Really are you sure?"
"Well I don't see how it would cheer you up if you had to pay for it, but first come on let's go get our tickets, the popcorn here is really good too." He helped her up and put his arm around her. "I'm gonna make this a good day for you, even if I have to work extra hard to do it."
