Sanctuary
Load Full Story"I knew you'd be here." Sunset entered the garden of shadows in her rose pajamas the vibrancy of her fiery hair lit up the surrounding area.
"Where else would I be?" Wallflower whispered curled up beside a row of Petunias, as orange, yellow, and red leaves littered her flowing green mane.
Sunset could feel the numbness waft from her girlfriend even from halfway across the garden. The once colorful escape was cast in darkness which engulfed all into a void of nothingness, an icy breeze blew over the teenager with malicious intent.
"In bed, with me for one." Sunset navigated the silhouettes of flowers before taking a seat beside Wallflower.
The area was eerily quiet as a ghostly fog littered the area in a frightening display of malice. A sense of haunting dismay clung to the air as if threatening to suffocate the good from the world.
"The nightmares are back." She spoke in barely a whisper.
Sunset arched a thin brow with worry in her turquoise eyes. She knew of those nightmares too well, to wake up forgotten and alone. That everything you created for yourself had been torn away, like petals from a wilted rose.
"They're only dreams." Sunset plucked the leaves from her fragile flower's hair.
"Now, but one day." She placed her head upon the shoulder of her love.
Wallflower knew nothing lasts forever. She wasn't a naive little girl with delusions of happy endings and fairytale weddings. Sooner or later, with the use of magic or simply the passage of time.
She would lose everything she held dear. When that time came, this garden would be her only companion in a life of heartbreak and tears. The soil was unable to host anything but despair and unease, her sanctuary.
"We can't live for what might happen. '' Sunset wrapped her arm around her little green bean carefully.
"We can only live for now. " She pressed forward as their lips met in the silence of the night, Wallflower easing into the kiss as she melted in place.
Her heart raced wildly as a sun-kissed hand caressed down her side lovingly. Sunset nibbled the top lip firmly as her tongue slipped within, a ballet of passion underway as both girls fell to the lush grass below.
"I'll always love you." Sunset rested atop her flower softly, leaning forward to deepen the kiss shared between them.
Wallflower could only squirm underneath the protective embrace of her shining sun. A warmth sprouting within her, nourishing the body and soul in waves of ecstasy. Her fears were fading fast, Sunset's hand cupping her cheek gently with untold love.
"Are you certain? " Wallflower mumbled as tears ran down her face.
Sunset pressed their warm bodies together in a silent smile. "Let me show you something. " She leaned down to whisper in her ear, giving a soft nibble on the lobe below.
Shivering in a wave of emotions the flower nodded between sobs. Sunset focusing her magic on something new, not to feel another's emotions hidden from the world. But instead, share the love in which she enjoyed every day.
A sudden glow of gold engulfed both ladies in a flash of warm light. Wallflower could see the veil of indifference lift from the world, darkness replaced by the warmth of vibrant colors.
The garden was in full bloom with otherworldly beauty. Colors popped out in a swirl of enchantment and magic. A ballet of new scents wafted across the air, a wave of warmth lifting the spirits and calming the nerves.
"What is this?" Wallflower gasped this garden, not her own.
The world was no longer claustrophobic and chill. The feeling of loneliness was replaced by the passion of life, a kiss of sunlight that brought forth new untold joy to her day.
"How you make me feel. " Sunset giggled, squeezing the green hand of her girlfriend gently.
"You bring color to my day." She whispered sweet nothings onto the wind. "Warmth to the coldest nights and love to an empty moment. " Sunset let her love shine brightly through the night.
Wallflower sobbed in the embrace of her guardian angel, for the first time feeling the sunshine upon her cheek. A gift that lifted her heart to someplace new and exciting, a place full of hope.
"If you ever feel alone or lost." Sunset cupped the cheek of her companion lovingly.
"Return to this garden built upon our love, know that with you my days are brighter. " She leaned inward to share a tender kiss amongst the flora.
"That I see beyond the normal colors and past the faults in our lives. " Sunset lost herself in those dark brown pools of chocolate.
Wallflower felt at ease curled up under the protective arm of the sun itself. "I love you." She whispered as a genuine smile slowly crossed her lips.
"I'll never forget you," Sunset spoke those words in barely a whisper.
Knowing her flower would hear the rhythmic beating of her heart and know. That this old haunt was no longer a place to escape her problems, an icy sanctuary to fade away into obscurity.
That if she ever felt lost or frightened. That the sunlight would guide her back home, to the embrace of understanding and renewed faith. A new garden in the full bloom of something far more special than friendship or compassion.
One created out of love.
Both girls shared the warmth of a close embrace, the gentle suckling of lips echoed amongst the hidden garden. The sun peeked over the horizon as sun-kissed hands caressed over soft curves, both able to see the world in a new light.
Standing up, Sunset wrapped arms around the delicate flower in her life. Leading her back towards home and perhaps under some warm covers. The promise of a new day was enough to grant serenity to the moment, a new sense of calm.
After all, it was an October weekend, nice and brisk as multicolored leaves showered to the dew-ridden grass below.
The perfect time to sleep in late.
