We Dream Of Twilight Sparkle
“Twilight are you absolutely sure about this?” asked Rarity in a patient, yet still exhausted tone.
“I’ve checked all the spell components. I’ve had Luna quiz me, and I’ve practiced this spell in the dream world. I am one hundred percent certain about this,” Twilight replied, the mare lying on her side as she glanced over at Rarity who lay on her own bed a few feet away.
“I still don't understand why you suddenly need to learn how to dreamwalk,” Spike remarked.
“It's important,” Twilight stressed.
“As you’ve said darling,” Rarity replied.
Twilight sighed. “Look, just trust me, okay? The spell should put me in your dream for the night and then send me back in the morning. Easy.”
“It doesn't sound easy,” Spike exclaimed.
“Well it is,” Twilight retorted, lying back down in her bed with a soft thump.
“Well alright darling but I still think these kinds of things are better left to the experts,” Rarity declared.
“Which is why I aim to become an expert,” Twilight shot back, only to quickly sigh. “But enough about that. Let us continue.”
“So I just sit here then, right?” Spike asked.
“Yes,” Twilight answered. “All you need to do is send the left note if you think something went wrong and the right one if it goes off without a hitch.”
Spike glanced at the table and the two notes on it, both of which were addressed to Luna.
“Ready when you are darling,” Rarity remarked, the mare having pulled the covers up to her chin and placed a sleeping mask over her eyes.
“Alright. Now just relax while I cast the spell,” Twilight replied, laying back much like how Rarity was.
Twilight didn't wait for another response, and lit her horn, magic quickly gathering at the tip. Runes, glyphs and other magical phenomena appeared briefly before after nearly a minute of concentrating the spell was complete. Now done, the spell glowed brightly at the tip of her horn, though Twilight didn't cast it right away.
She was too busy staring at Rarity’s calm features, a soft smile crossing her own face. After realizing that she had let the spell sit for a moment too long, the unicorn released it, and immediately slumped to the bed. As did Rarity who began snoring softly only a few seconds later.
Spike rubbed his eyes. “That was a little bright.”
Glancing down at the two mares, Spike did his best to observe the pair closely for any sign of discomfort. Neither expressions were pained, and their bodies remained relaxed, their muscles loose. The dragon maintained his vigil for several seconds before releasing a sigh, sending the correct letter and walking over to the door.
After pushing it open and reentering the main area of the tree library, Spike was surprised to find that there was a patron still there. Despite it being nearly nine in the evening, and the lights having been dimmed, a single pony remained seated below. Upon seeing the young drake, Pinkie Pie instantly jumped to attention, rushing over to Spike before he could even flip the lights on.
“Is Twilight here?” Pinkie Pie asked.
“Err yeah, but she's in the middle of a sleep experiment with Rarity,” Spike replied, jerking a thumb over his shoulder and up towards the second floor.
Pinkie Pie sighed, and kicked the ground sadly. “Darn it. I’m too late again.”
“Did you like, need something?” Spike asked, scratching his head.
“I just wanted to talk to Twilight about… a thing. Don't worry, it can wait until tomorrow. I hope,” Pinkie Pie stated while fidgeting constantly.
Spike blinked. “Riiiight. Well if you don't mind I was hoping to restock before heading to bed.”
“Sorry for getting in the way. Goodnight Spike,” Pinkie Pie exclaimed.
“G'night Pinkie,” Spike replied.
Spike watched the pink mare slowly walk away, her head held low and mane slowly straightening as she disappeared into the evening gloom.
“I wonder what's up with her?” Spike asked the now empty room.
When he received no reply, the dragon shrugged his shoulders and got to work.
Rarity awakened into her dream to find herself alone, not only that but she was alone in what looked like the gala reception hall. Except now it was dark, and there were no decorations, only creeping shadows, and utter silence. The unicorn had been about to call out when she noticed that she was wearing a dress and a rather stunning one at that.
“How curious,” Rarity exclaimed.
As if that were the cue for some unseen assistant, a pair of lights flickered on before shifting until they revealed Twilight standing alone on the stage. She wore a perfectly tailored black suit with a bright lavender tie, and studded silver studs on her cuffs. Her mane had also been slicked back, and a wide, confident smile covered the dreamwalker’s face.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate this wonderful mare,” Twilight began, an unseen band beginning to play in the background, starting quiet but eventually growing louder. “Kind beyond measure. Generous to a fault, and the best friend anyone could ever ask for. Rarity truly is a wonderful pony.”
Rarity blushed, and batted a hoof at the other pony. “Oh stop.”
“It's true!” Twilight exclaimed. “And she isn't just a pretty face, though her face is very, very pretty.”
Rarity giggled and blushed.
“She knows karate, can bake, and has some excellent diplomatic skills as well,” Twilight added.
“I suppose I have been known to kick flank on occasion,” Rarity exclaimed.
Twilight chuckled. “That you have Lady Rarity. Which is why I’ve brought you here today. In order to ask you one simple question.”
The lavender mare hopped off the stage, and trotted up to Rarity, the twin spotlights following her all the while.
“Oh and what would that be?” Rarity asked.
Twilight’s confident facade slipped for a moment, and she paused to take a slow breath as the music grew quiet. “Will…” Twilight smiled. “Will you go out with me?”
Rarity gasped in shock, only to immediately leap into the other pony’s forelegs. “Oh Twilight I thought you would never ask!” Rarity exclaimed.
“Err what? Are you saying you saw this coming?” Twilight asked, the pony somewhat off put by Rarity’s declaration.
“Well not all this,” Rarity replied, gesturing around the room. “But it was pretty obvious you had feelings for me.”
“Spike told you, didn't he?” Twilight demanded.
Rarity giggled. “No actually. You’re just not very good at hiding these kinds of things.”
“So uh is that a yes then?” Twilight hesitantly inquired.
“Of course it's a yes!” Rarity shouted, planting a kiss on the other mare’s cheek. “I’ve been waiting for you to ask me that for weeks!”
“Well it took a while to learn how to dreamwalk,” Twilight sheepishly replied.
“You didn't need to go through all of this you know,” Rarity retorted, gesturing around the room.
“I know. I just wanted our first date to be perfect so I thought what better place to have it then in the dream world? Here I can make sure everything is exactly how I want it,” Twilight explained.
“It seems someone has already made up a plan,” Rarity offered with a smile. “Where to first?”
“Paris for a coffee, then back to Canterlot for a showing of the princess and the pauper,” Twilight answered.
“Oh ho ho,” Rarity muttered, hoof covering her mouth. “You’ve really gone all out.”
“It wasn't easy to memorize everything about this one prench cafe, or an entire play, but it was worth it,” Twilight exclaimed.
Rarity shot the other pony a smirk. “I think I shall be the judge of that. Now then, I am ready when you are.”
Twilight extended a hoof. “Your chariot awaits.”
Rarity emerged into the waking world slowly, a smile on her face before she was even truly awake. Memories of the night spent with her new girlfriend flickered through her mind, the mare swooning silently as she thought back on the night’s events. Removing the face mask, Rarity laid there quietly, staring up at the ceiling as she let herself enjoy the afterglow of the best dream she had ever experienced.
It couldn't last forever though, and soon a few errant rays of light slipped through the curtains, landing on Rarity’s cheek. With her senses now fully returned to her, the pony pulled aside the sheets and looked over to find that Twilight had yet to wake. Not wanting to startle her, Rarity carefully crept out of the guest bed that had been set up and into Twilight’s.
There she rested on her side, watching as the other mare’s chest slowly rose and fell. She expected the librarian to wake soon after, but when that didn't happen for over a minute, Rarity cleared her throat.
She then prodded Twilight’s side. “Wake up darling,” Rarity whispered.
When neither attempt bore fruit, Rarity rolled her eyes and pulled back the covers, hoping the cool breeze would be enough. When even that proved to have no effect on the other pony, Rarity began to grow slightly concerned.
“Twilight, it's time to wake up,” Rarity pressed, gripping Twilight’s shoulders and shaking. “If this is a joke then it is in poor taste.”
Again nothing happened, and Rarity leapt atop Twilight’s chest. “Wake up right this instant or I am going to slap you!” Rarity shouted, her voice growing shrill.
When no response came, and Twilight didn't move, Rarity took a sharp breath.
“I warned you,” Rarity muttered before bringing her hoof across the other pony’s cheek.
This time when Rarity’s actions earned no reaction from the other pony, she leapt from the bed, intent on seeking out Spike. That was until a familiar voice called out to her, stopping Rarity dead in her tracks.
“What's going on?” muttered Twilight.
Rarity spun on her heels to find that the other unicorn remained asleep, her eyes still closed and her expression neutral.
“Darling is that you?” Rarity whispered.
“Err yes? But how am I looking at my own body?” Twilight muttered.
“Your own body? But…” Rarity trailed off, raising a single foreleg. “How many hooves am I holding up?”
“There is only a single hoof up but it's my hoof. Or at least it feels like it's mine,” Twilight muttered.
Rarity’s eyes widened and she sprinted towards the door. “Spike!”
Pinkie Pie nervously knocked on the door to Carousel Boutique, hopping from hoof to hoof in barely contained anticipation.
“You don't have to knock darling. Come in, were open!” The familiar voice of Rarity shouted.
“Oh right,” Pinkie muttered, glancing at the open sign before hastily trotting inside.
Upon entering the shop, Pinkie Pie all but sprinted up to Rarity who had been placing a new dress on a ponyquin.
“Rarity are you okay?” Pinkie Pie asked, grabbing the other mare by the shoulders. “You can tell me if you aren't.”
Rarity blinked before gently pushing the other pony away. “Oh I can assure you darling. I am just fine.”
“But the spell. And Twilight, and, and-”
“Shhhh,” Rarity whispered. “It's okay. Deep breaths now.”
Pinkie Pie reluctantly did as she was asked.
“Better?” Rarity asked.
Pinkie Pie nodded.
“Good, now-” Rarity’s head flicked to the side. “Oh and Twilight says hello.”
“Uh hi,” Pinkie Pie muttered.
“Sorry. I know this entire situation is rather strange, but Luna’s letter should have explained everything,” Rarity replied.
“So it's true then. Twilight is stuck in your head for a whole year?” Pinkie Pie murmured in a low tone.
“It is,” Rarity replied. “And Twilight is apologizing again. A second darling.”
Rarity turned away and quickly adopted a more patient tone. “Now don't get twisted up into knots again. We already talked about it and I forgave you, remember?”
The unicorn paused, as if waiting for some unseen conversation partner to reply.
“Don't make me lecture you again,” Rarity retorted, glaring into a nearby mirror.
There was another bout of silence, this one shorter than before.
“Apologies darling,” Rarity exclaimed, turning to Pinkie Pie. “Twilight is still rather upset about the entire thing despite my attempts to keep her from freaking out.”
“It's okay,” Pinkie Pie muttered absently, avoiding eye contact. “I was just worried about Twilight. Er, both of you.”
“Oh that's so sweet of you,” Rarity stated, pulling the other pony into a tight, brief hug. “But as you can see I- no we are just fine.”
“Are you sure?” Pinkie Pie inquired. “What about Twilight, or her body I mean?”
“Twilight’s unconscious form is going to be just fine,” Rarity replied. “Luna made sure to set up a bunch of spells that would keep her muscles from atrophying, or her body from dying.”
Rarity held up a hoof, interrupting Pinkie Pie before she could speak.
“Yes,” Rarity answered no one.
“Yes we checked that, remember?” Rarity stressed.
There was another pause.
“Look I was fine with staying together throughout this little debacle but if you keep nagging me I may rethink that,” Rarity firmly stated.
Rarity’s frown melted, reforming into a soft smile. “I like you too darling. Just remember that I can hear you quite clearly and there is no reason to raise your voice. Now what were you saying Pinkie Pie?”
“Oh I uh…” Pinkie Pie gulped. “You two are together together?”
“Literally and metaphorically it seems,” Rarity replied with a smirk.
“Since when?” Pinkie Pie hesitantly asked.
“Oh last night. It was why this entire mess even occurred in the first place,” Rarity answered, only to sigh out of nowhere. “No I don't think your date was a mess. It was wonderful. I was speaking of our new living arrangement as it were.”
“Moving in together already huh?” Pinkie Pie joked, though there was no levity in her voice.
Rarity giggled. “Scandalous I know.”
“So… I guess I’ll see you tonight when we meet up with the rest of the girls to talk about this?” Pinkie Pie offered.
Rarity nodded. “Indeed. We shall have all the time in the world to answer questions then. Though be warned that I tire easily and may need to leave early. Something about all the extra thinking burning more calories.”
Rarity rolled her eyes. “I know that's not the technical definition but do you think Pinkie Pie cares about such minute details?”
“Sorry about that darling,” Rarity apologized. “Now is there anything else you need?”
Pinkie Pie shook her head. “No, I'm fine. Thank you.”
“I’ll see you soon darling,” Rarity replied.
“Err yeah. Have a good day you two,” Pinkie Pie muttered mostly to herself.
Rarity watched as the straight haired Pinkie Pie walked out the door, never once looking back.
“I’m fairly certain she was just worried about us,” Rarity remarked.
Rarity paused for a moment, a frown crossing her face.
“Either way we shall get to the bottom of it tonight. Until then let us focus on the orders I need to get done. I’d like to have my backlog cleared out within the next week,” Rarity told the empty room.
The unicorn began to trot towards the back room only to stop and chuckle. “Oh Twilight you can be such a joker sometimes.”
Rarity stared down at Twilight’s unconscious body. It lay in the exact same spot that it had a year ago, and had changed very little save for the addition of a few more grey hairs. Rarity herself didn't look much different, though she had taken to wearing more clothes over the past twelve months. She had also straightened her mane, creating what looked like a blend between Twilight’s standard bookish appearance and Rarity’s more extravagant hair style.
“Well this is it darling,” Rarity muttered. “All we need to do is cast the spell and we’ll be apart once more.”
“Well not apart but I know what you mean,” Rarity replied to herself, head shifting to the left.
Rarity turned back and smiled. “Yes I am rather surprised about that particular part. No offence darling but I didn't think we could make this work given our circumstances.”
“I’m glad it did though,” Rarity softly stated.
“Quite right. Now I think Spike and Pinkie Pie are growing quite bored sitting on the other side of the door, waiting for this to be over with. We should get moving,” Rarity remarked.
“I suppose we should. It's going to be weird though,” Rarity muttered.
The unicorn gently ran a hoof down her right cheek. “Oh it will be okay darling. Just focus on all the positives. Like for one you’ll finally be able to kiss me.”
Rarity chuckled. “I suppose that's true. Though are you sure you practiced the spell enough times?”
Rarity sighed and rolled her eyes. “Yes I’m certain now would you quit interrupting me?”
“Right, sorry,” Rarity muttered.
Rarity smiled faintly as she powered up her horn, magic coursing through her body and gathering into an orb. One which grew slightly larger before shifting colors to become a lavender nearly identical in hue to Twilight’s fur. Rarity then prepared herself to release the magic but was interrupted before that could happen.
“Are you sure about-” Rarity began, only to clamp her mouth shut as she allowed the energy gathered around her horn to harmlessly bleed away.
“Now I know you were not about to interrupt me young lady,” Rarity exclaimed, glancing into a nearby mirror and glaring at her reflection.
“S-sorry,” she stuttered.
Rarity sighed as the spell finally finished unraveling, her horn now dull.
“It's fine darling. Just please restrain yourself for but two minutes. Please,” Rarity declared.
“I will. Sorry Rarity. I’m just really worried,” Rarity admitted to herself.
“Just contain your emotions for a few minutes and this will all be over,” Rarity stressed.
“I will,” Rarity exclaimed.
“Good,” Rarity replied.
Once again Rarity lit her horn, and once again she cast the spell, working slowly to ensure that nothing went wrong. Sure enough it took a little longer than anticipated, but the spell was complete once more. Without anything having gone wrong, and not a single iota of power out of place, the magic was released.
The lavender orb broke off from Rarity’s horn, and traveled the short distance to Twilight’s own spiraled appendage. There it hovered for a moment before slipping into the slumbering unicorn’s skull, bleeding away into her body.
Rarity stood beside the bed, hesitantly staring at her partner as she began to twitch and occasional convulse. Though the movements were erratic, and uncomfortable to watch, Rarity had been warned about this possibility before already. So she waited patiently as Twilight lay still, her eyes remaining closed for a painfully long time.
“T-twilight?” Rarity whispered.
The other mare groaned, and awkwardly reached up towards her head. “Ow. Luna didn't say anything about this hurting as much as it does,” Twilight muttered, her voice hoarse.
“She did mention that you may have some discomfort,” Rarity replied.
Twilight winced as she awkwardly rubbed her head. “I know, but it feels like someone dropped an anvil on me.”
“Have you been chasing any roadrunners in your dreams?” Rarity replied with a smirk.
“Not recently,” Twilight replied, smiling back at the other mare. “It's good to finally see you with my own eyes.”
“It's great to see you too darling,” Rarity whispered, leaning closer.
Their lips met a moment later, with Rarity placing a hoof on either side of the still prone unicorn’s head. They kissed passionately, and deeply, allowing the seconds to turn to minutes until finally Rarity’s hoof began to become tired. She then pulled back, or at least tried to as she found her lips stuck fast to Twilight’s.
A confused expression passed between them, and one or both tried to release a muffled cry of confusion. Thinking that this was just some weird prank or something Rarity pulled her head back even harder but didn't feel anything strange like glue. In fact it almost felt like her and Twilight’s lips had been conjoined somehow, yet she couldn't be certain of that fact.
Either way they were stuck, and Rarity tried to remedy this by putting her hoof on Twilight’s chest. Her attempt to push and free her lips was met with another complication. Her foreleg was sinking into Twilight’s chest.
Seeing this, both mares began to scream, but their cries were muffled by the fact that their lips were sealed together. Twilight tried to shove Rarity away, but her hooves disappeared into Rarity’s torso like she had stuck her hoof in mud. Magic flickered, kinetic blasts firing off wildly to no effect, destroying lamps, book shelves and finally a window.
Try as they might they couldn't pull away from one another, and worse yet they were seemingly being dragged inwards toward a central point. Panic quickly settled over the two ponies, the mares thrashing as they tried to get away from another. All attempts only sped the process up, and within seconds they had congealed into a single amorphous mass of purple and white flesh.
“That sounded like a window breaking,” Pinkie Pie exclaimed.
“Should we go help them?” Spike whispered.
Pinkie Pie nodded. “Do you have the message for Luna?”
Spike raised the note.
“Good. You get ready to send it in case anything went wrong,” Pinkie Pie declared.
“Right,” Spike replied.
Pinkie Pie leaned forward, twisting the knob and pushing open the door to reveal a surprisingly dark room. The lamp had been smashed, as had the sole other light in the room, leaving the only illumination coming from the hall. It wasn't much, but it allowed Pinkie Pie to see up to the edge of the bed as well as the twisting, writing mass atop it.
The earth pony assumed that someone was having trouble with the blankets, but was proven wrong when she spotted them on the ground.
“Twiligh-” Pinkie Pie began, but was cut off when she heard the loud snap of a femur.
PInkie Pie’s eyes went wide, and she shoved Spike out of the room. “Send it. I’ll hold it off!” she shouted.
Spike couldn't barely utter a sound before the door slammed shut, locking in front of him a second later. Pinkie Pie wasted no time in locating a chair and breaking off one of its legs to use as a club. She then hesitantly approached the bed, her jaw clenched tight and her hoof held high.
“What are you and what have you done to my friends?” Pinkie Pie hissed.
The twisting, undulating blob of multicolored flesh paused a moment before surging outwards. The first thing to form was a head, one which had two different colored horns much longer than that of a unicorn’s. A trio of forehooves followed a moment later, two strong, one weak, and dangling from the slowly hardening torso limply.
Its face sported far too many eyes, as well as a dozen or more mouths, though they were quickly consumed by the flesh. More concrete features formed a second later, including four eyes, and two mouths supported by a pair of double decker jaws. Steam burst forth from the creature’s dual mouths, forcing Pinkie Pie to stumble away lest she be injured by the blast.
By the time the earth pony regained her bearings, the twisted mass of flesh had grown two pairs of hind legs and had risen out of the bed. Standing as tall as an alicorn, its different colored eyes peered intently down at Pinkie Pie. It didn't speak, at least not right away, its bones and organs shifting audibly within its body.
The sight was unpleasant, made worse by the sickening crunches and squelches coming from the creature. That wasn't the worst of it however, the true horror came not from any sense, but rather a dawning realization.
“Twilight, Rarity?” Pinkie Pie whispered.
The creature wheezed, sucking air into its overly large lungs as its fur finished growing over its purplish white skin. Before it spoke the creature gained a multicolored tail of tangled, matted hair that went all the way down to the ground.
“Pinkie,” it wheezed.
“What happened? Who did this to you?” Pinkie Pie whispered, her hoof clutching her improvised club tightly.
“No one,” it replied, voice slowly becoming more recognizable as well as feminine. “We did this to ourselves.”
“No. Rarity and Twilight wouldn't do something like… whatever this is,” Pinkie Pie muttered.
“They did,” it replied, stepping forward. “They did not know it at the time but looking back they agree that it was the best decision they have ever made.”
“I don't know what your talking about but you better give me my friends back!” Pinkie Pie shouted, club raised high overhead.
“They are not gone, for they are within us,” it exclaimed, eyes swirling with strange energy. “And they yearn to be reunited with you.”
“I’ll never become a monster like you,” Pinkie Pie retorted.
The mare swung her weapon in a brutal arc, but the monster sidestepped it easily.
“We are your friends, and we are no more a monster than a chimera,” replied the creature in a soft, patient tone.
“I don't care about your silly semantics, you’re a monster!” Pinkie Pie shouted, swinging again.
The creature easily walked out of the range of the attack, its mouths smiling widely all the while.
“We know why you are here Pinkie Pie,” it stated softly. “You fell in love with Twilight, and wanted the chance to tell her, as you did the night of the experiment.”
“I…” Pinkie Pie grit her teeth.
“There is no use hiding it. In fact we commend you for your enduring devotion,” It continued, stepping forward. “Your heart has stayed true throughout it all, and now you stand at the precipice of your destiny.”
“What are you talking about?” Pinkie Pie whispered, her gaze never leaving the four swirling purple and white eyes staring down at her.
“We love you Pinkie Pie. We’ve always loved you,” declared the monster. “Your laughter is infectious, your humour humbling. There is not a moment we’ve spent in your presence where we did not relish the time spent with you.”
“G-get away,” Pinkie Pie muttered, weakly swinging her club.
The creature caught it with a hoof, pulling the simple hunk of wood from Pinkie Pie’s grasp and tossing it aside.
“You don't need that Pinkie Pie. All you need is to kiss us, embrace us, and become one with us,” whispered the creature.
Pinkie Pie bumped into the wall, her mind barely even comprehending that she was now cornered. All she could see were those big eyes, and all she could think about was how much she wanted to simply give in. The creature’s horrifying exterior fell away, revealing the smiling faces of her two friends, each grinning expectantly.
“Kiss us Pinkie,” they offered.
“I c-can't,” Pinkie Pie murmured.
“Kiss us Pinkie,” it commanded.
This time the mare could not resist, and leaned forward to embrace the fleshy abomination.
Celestia strode quietly onto the balcony, taking a position to her sister’s left and overlooking the city. “Is everything alright?” Celestia asked.
“I have received a strange letter from Twilight Sparkle,” Luna replied, extending a hoof.
Celestia unfurled the note. “Something went wrong with Rarity’s spell. Send help. How… vague.”
“Indeed,” Luna replied. “I immediately sent a letter to Ponyville general and demanded they send a doctor while also ordering the guard to muster.”
“Don't you think that's overdoing it a little?” Celestia asked.
Luna raised an eyebrow. “Considering that neither have reported back I think I was underdoing it.”
Celestia frowned. “You don't think something’s happened, do you?”
“I can't be certain, but this event has coincided with nearly every dreamer in Ponyville vanishing from the dreamscape,” Luna answered.
“That is serious,” Celestia admitted. “I assume you are rallying the guard.”
“Indeed,” Luna replied. “I have the royal guard of both day and night assembling our fastest carriages. Not only that but I have brought together several skilled mages who may be able to assist with whatever has befallen fair Ponyville.”
“I’m going with you,” Celestia exclaimed.
Luna nodded. “Your company would be most appreciated.”
“Then we shall move as soon as… Do you hear that?” Celestia whispered.
Luna paused, her ears sticking up as high as possible. “It sounds like… hoofsteps.”
The sisters gazed out into the darkness, their attention turned towards the distant town of Ponyville. The moon, hidden as it was by the omnipresent wall of clouds, gave little illumination, its light hindered by the weather. Left with only a few shafts of moonlight piercing the night, the mares could make out the vague outline of something massive.
Shaped like a pony, the entity was far larger than any normal creature, even dragon lord Torch himself. It’s generally vaguely equine appearance was marred by two many legs, and an overall deformed silhouette.
Then the clouds parted, and the two sisters gasped in shocked at what they beheld.
Striding towards the city of Canterlot was a beast nearly a quarter of the mountain’s height. Seemingly constructed from every pony in ponyville mashed together, the great beast strode forward with a strange, uneven gait. Propelled by seven hooves and three dozen wings, the creature looked like it was running directly towards them.
Panic immediately filled the alicorns, yet they couldn't utter a sound, their attention captivated by the creature’s many swirling eyes. Ranging in size from that of an infant, to the rough equivalent of an entire three story house, the many orbs sported a myriad of colors. Each one of which seemed to be staring directly at both sisters at the exact same time, reaching deep into their souls.
Celestia and Luna couldn’t move or look away from the many mouthed, and many eyed abomination. Not even the strange rainbow array of colors that made up its fur could draw their attention away from the mass. They wanted to touch it, to embrace it, a sentiment shared by many of Canterlot’s inhabitants.
Already pegasi were flocking towards the creature, streaming out of every window and door they could manage. Earth ponies sprinted across the open ground while unicorns attempted to teleport as close as they could manage before simply running from there.
“We love you,” called the creature in the voice of every denizen of Ponyville at the same time. “Be one with us.”
