The Dragonborn Awakens Part 3

A few months later

Turns out that it was easy to get a place to stay as well as a way to pay my debts. All I had to do was help around the farm.

It was hard at first since I had never worked on a farm before, but as the days passed, I found that things were getting easier. I was getting better at plowing the fields and lifting heavier and heavier objects. Must be because I was getting an amazing workout.

Anyway, I was traveling amongst the buildings of the Empire as I went around selling some of the recently harvested wheat. I then saw the bakery near the outskirts. "Hey Gem, got the wheat that you ordered." Gem Pie, a really great baker had a pink colored body with a gray colored mane. He always seemed to be sparklier than the average crystal pony here.

"Ah. Thanks lad. Care to stay and try one of my latest creations?" He asked while getting his hat straightened for the day ahead.

"No thanks. After this I was going to help get the farm ready for the tour of the empire that Sombra wants to give our new dignitary guests." I said as I unloaded the wheat with the baker, still don't know how he makes flour himself, and made sure that I had everything settled before leaving.

The baker scratched his chin. "Oh, yeah. Those Leonin from the Wildlands." I waas still amazed that there were races from Dungeons and Dragons here in this world. One of which are the previously mentioned Leonin. Unlike in the lore of D&D, these Leonin were more like warlords from how they were described to me. The different tribes in the Wildlands, an expanse of land to the south of Zebrica, were at constant war with each other. Every so often, They would send ambassadors to try to get allies. Most of the time, it didn't work.

Gem went to the door and switched the sign to 'open'. "Well I hope that these ones are not as bad as the ones who tried to ally with Equestria." When we got news of what happened, let's just say that it didn't end well.

Anyway. I left the building and made my way back to the farm. You'd think that from my interactions with these ponies, things are actually nice and dandy. Well, you'd be wrong. As I walked along the street, I could see the latest set of Sombra's slaves heading to the mines for the day. The looks on them all was so depressing, which I guess is the point. Sombra does like to use fear to keep us all in line. Anyway, as I was passing the castle as a shortcut to get across the city, I was stopped by one of the guards that was standing out front.

"Hey, you're wanted in the throne room, lizard." That was a surprise, I had never even been in the castle before. Now I had a friend in there, but I only interacted with him out of the castle. I wonder why I was summoned to the castle?

I was lead into the castle by the guard. They always spooked me because there was no one wearing them. Well, I say that, but it's more like living shadows that are housed within the armor. Sombra had found them along with the armor before he took over, so they are his army.

"So, who's the one who summoned me?" I ask the guard as we walk down the dark halls of the castle to the throne room.

"You were summoned here by Prince Scarlet Fury at the behest of his father, King Sombra." Huh. Never expected that my buddy was the one who called on me, but the fact that he did so at the tyrant's insistance makes me worry a little.

Allow me to clarify. Scarlet Fury is Sombra's son. Years before I had arrived, Sombra decided that he wanted to have an heir, but since he wanted a lot of his features and power from a great wyrm, which is a more feral version of the dragons of the Dragon Lands to the south east, so he took some scales from an amethyst thunder dragon. After using some dark magic and some of his own blood, he got what he wanted, although he didn't account on his son being not exactly like him. He had a kind side and didn't look exatly like Sombra.

Anyway, me and the guard arrived at the throne room and entered. There sitting on a throne made entirely of dark crystals was Sombra. He was a dark grey stallion with a black mane and tail, the former of which flowed as if it were a black flame. His eyes were a dark red color with green sclera and a purple miasma seeping from the sides. He wore a full set of adamantine armor, except for his crown which was more like a war circlet, and a red cape with white trim. The style of the armor made me think of Sauron from Lord of the Rings. On the pauldrons, were rubys that were designed after Sombra's cutie mark, a trio of red crystals whose silhouette would make a crown.

Standing next to the throne on Sombra's right was his son, Scarlet Fury. He had much of Sombra's looks, except for the purple dragon forearms, blue irises in his eyes, purple streaks in his non-flowing mane and tail, the purple scales across the top of his muzzle, and visible purple hooves. His outfit, like it always is, consisted of a dark purple tunic with his cutie mark which, like sombra's, is made to appear to be made of red crystals, only shaped like a dragon head and is placed on his left on his chest, a crimson colored cape that barely goes below the shoulders, ornate silver pauldrons, crimson pants, and a ruby pendant shaped like a v on a silver chain.

Once I arrive at the foot of the steps, the guard hits me in the back of my leg to force me into a kneeling position. I look between the two rulers before speaking. "I was summoned? What did you want exactly from a farmhand?" I had to hold back what I wanted to really say because I did not have anything nice to say to Sombra, so I decided to just get this over with.

Sombra chuckled. "I respect you holding your anger back, but I guess that we should skip the formalities." He turns to Scarlet. "Why don't you tell our friend about our new friends?"

'You can take your respect and shove it where the sun don't shine.' I thought.

"Of course, Father." Scarlet says, though I can tell that He still doesn't like his dad. "I have asked you to come here because King Sombra thinks that you should be the one to show the dignitaries around the Empire."

The silence could allow one to hear a pin drop.

"I'm sorry, but what?" I asked in complete shock.

This decision felt like he was setting me up for disaster. What I did not know was how correct I was.
