Doctor Whooves woken up from his sleep, having to go to the bathroom. On his way to the bathroom, he smell some kind of... rotten flesh. He has conducted a bunch of autopsies, so he can identify what's going on out there.
As he steps out of his house, he shocked a rotten corpse with worms around eating it. It was a pony, probably a stranger. The thing is, her footsteps seems that he came from The Crystal Empire and on her way to Equestria. Her coat was green, but on the bottom there were already necrosis and a pool of blood underneath her body.
Doctor Whooves was about to puke, but luckily he can resist all the pukes. He was used to conduct autopsies and dedicated to live in the remote place in order to, get away from crowded Canterlot? Maybe, but this isn't his reason.
He marked the corpse as a "Biohazard" and trying to figure out how to take the corpse safely, because her corpse had already rotten and some of her bones had detached.
He didn't have any horn, he cannot lift up an object easily even though he mastered hornless spells, but they are capable only to heal and not to interact with it. But he had to conduct the autopsy in order to find out why the mare ended up here rotten.
He decided to sterilize the corpse with a bit of alcohol, took a wheeled ward and managed to lift up the corpse onto the ward and carried it to his house. He placed a sign of "Do Not Disturb" as he needs to focus on research.
Doctor Whooves starts working. It was 5 in the morning. But he haven't peed yet, so he just seal it with a sterilized medic cloth.
He returns to work after from bathroom.
Suddenly a mare from The Crystal Empire knocked his door.
"Who is it?" Doctor Whooves asks
"It's me, Princess Cadance."
"Princess?" He got out of his house to meet Cadance. "I'm sorry to seal my house. An autopsy is being conducted."
"What autopsy?"
"A mare coming from The Crystal Empire had noticed infected from a dangerous pathogen and I still don't know what is it."
"Oh my... I should tell Celestia quickly about this"
"Princess, is there any dead bodies around your territory? Bring them to me if you found any. Assign unicorns because they can move objects without having to touch them. This is critical - a plague just started, I guess."
"Sure, Doctor Whooves. Be careful. The disease may still be contagious. Tell me what the result is and our scientists will began to work on the cure."
"My pleasure, your Highness."
"Excuse me, I need to meet Celestia now."
Doctor Whooves waves at Cadance, and them returns on his mission to identify the pathogen infecting the mare.
4 hours later he run to The Crystal Empire. He unsealed his house to exit the area and then seals it, to prevent the infected from infect the others and mark it "Biohazard".
He met a group of Royal Guards and asked them:
"Excuse me, where is Princess Cadance"
"She's still on Equestria. Why?" The Royal Guards replied
"I promised her to tell the results of a.. uhh... research." He was trying to be discreet.
"What research?"
"sigh... just forgive me if this is disgusting."
He began telling what happened in the early dawn until now, what he had done during the autopsy, and the result.
The result is, a series of deadly pathogen, still unnamed, has infected a mare. It was infectious not on air but on water and touch transmission. He worried the mare had touched the other pony.
"Wait until the Princess arrives. For now you may wait somewhere."
"Thank you."
The Crystal Empire was a pleasing empire filled with love and surrounded by magic. He thinks this is his opportunity to take a break, as he was very exhausted after the autopsy. Cadance returns from Equestria. He saw Doctor Whooves waiting in front of the castle.
At that time Cadence returned from West, to avoid the contagious area.
"Doctor Whooves, the Princess is here." The guards confirmed
"Sure. I'll catch up later." Yes, he must drink all of the tea he ordered.
He walked across the crystal street to the castle. He meets Princess Cadance and bows at her.
"So how is the autopsy result?" Cadance asked
Doctor Whooves has never in front of royalty before. Cadance seems to be eagerly waiting for the information.
"It has been confirmed a deadly pathogen plaguing our land now. We haven't named it yet, but for now on I need more autopsies to make this information a fact, not a guess."
"Do you want to know a secret?"
"What is it, your Highness?"
"The same, corpses around this land."
Doctor Whooves realises, this is now a pandemic.
"We buried some dead bodies far away from this land. In between us and Yakyakistan."
"Take me to there." Doctor Whooves eagerly begs Cadance
"But it was dangerous!"
"You don't need to worry about me, Princess. I was born to prevent ponykind from got eradicated from deadly pathogen."
They board on Cadance's royal transporter and on their way to the dangerous zone. From far, Doctor Whooves already can see where the corpses buried.
'So it was true...' Doctor Whooves thinks.
As they arrived 50 meters away from the danger zone, and Cadance has sealed off the area with her magic. She had to open the area for Doctor Whooves to enter.
"Please, Princess. Let me in."
"Just be careful, Doc."
"I will."
Cadance unseals the area Doctor Whooves. He gets his facemask and puts up a sterilized medical outfit. With a shovel Cadance gaven to him, he dig the soil covering the corpses. He saw a bunch of dead ponies lying on there. He didn't have to conduct more autopsies because he already know about this, and he can identify similiarities between each pathogen he smelled during autopsies.
He buried back the area with the soil he dug and returns to Cadance safely.
"It was true, this is pandemic. Keep me updated weekly for any updates. Please impose some lockdown to your territory because this disease originates from your territory."
"It was from my land?"
"Yes, princess."
"How can we help you stopping the pandemic?"
"Quarantine measures and sterilization all over The Crystal empire. The vaccine developement may took about 10 years but global research and production treaty can reduce the time up to 80%, meaning in 2 years the vaccine will be done and will be manufactured worldwidely."
"We are willing to be your partner, Doctor Whooves. Just tell us what to do and we will do it."
"Thank you."
They got back to The Crystal Empire and Cadance orders the guards to take him to his house.
"Ah, no thanks, princess. I can just walk"
"You are tired, you need some help."
"Okay, thanks princess"
Doctor Whooves has never been offered a support from royalty before, even Celestia.
He thanked the guards after taking him to his house. He walked to Equestria to tell Celestia to be careful. The thing is, he cannot troublesome the guards by asking them to take him to Canterlot instead.
Again, he have to meet royalty for the second time.
He asked a group of guards to grant him access to the palace.
"Sure."
The guards opened the royal door and told Princess Twilight. "Princess, a guest wants to meet you."
Doctor Whooves enters the palace, but he shocked Celestia wasn't there, but Twilight is.
"I've heard everything, Doctor."
"The... pathogen?"
"Yes, and thanks to Cadance and you I can be aware of the pathogen now."
"That helps a lot. Thanks your Highness"
"Wait!"
Doctor Whooves turns to Twilight. "Yes, princess?"
"Will you partner with our scientists?"
"I'd be happy, princess. I have partnered with The Crystal Empire's scientists as well."
"That's great! Guards, take him to the Canterlot research center."
"Yes, princess."
'Wait, Equestria has research lab?' He was happy to be part of the royal research.
Doctor Whooves arrives there so early as he and the guards ran towards the lab.
"Greetings, Gamma Plague!"
'They know me?' Doctor Whooves can't believe the scientists are eagerly waiting for him.
"Eh.. hey, guys! How y'all doing?"
"Nothing much, thanks. I bet you carried the results here, right?"
"Yes"
"Great! Please come inside."
Doctor Whooves tells the scientists about the autopsy result he got from his autopsy. The scientists are master of the Equestrian medic so they can already figure out how to make the vaccine.
Some scientists believe in him, some others are not, as they haven't meet him before.
The scientists had well prepared for any assigned research. This time, they are assigned.
A letter from Cadance arrives at him via royal mailmare.
The letter says:
"To: Doctor Whooves
Here are two research treaties you have to sign. They are from my land and Yakyakistan.
Regards,
Princess Cadance."
After he signs the research treaties and send them back to Yakyakistan and The Crystal Empire via royal mailmare, global research had begun. It seems like Twilight had sealed the entire castle. No guests, no messengers, nopony. Except for Doctor Whooves and the other royal ponies like 5 of her friends, the two sisters, and Princess Cadance.
To prevent the two sisters from infected, Twilight decides to invite them.
The next day Princess Celestia and Luna arrives at Canterlot. Twilight tells that a pandemic had plagued ponies and worldwide scientists are working on the vaccine developement.
Doctor Whooves has worked day and night with his friends in Canterlot Research Center. He was very tired but he had to tell Princess Twilight all the progress he made.
Doctor Whooves bows at her.
"Any news, Doctor?" Twilight asks.
"Expected time when I start the vaccine research is around 10-15 years, but thanks to global research treaty now is expected to be 326 days ahead."
"Great job, Doctor! Wait, you look tired."
"Yeah I had a whole day work yesterday. Can't sleep, duh..."
Celestia and Luna, knowing Doctor Whooves exhausted and forces himself to work, gave him instant energy to work 24 hours straight.
"Here, drink this if you need more energy. It will last for 14 hours, but the magic we gave you will last for 24 hours. As the effect worn off, your body will return to its normal state with full energy. So the time you are spiritful the energy wasn't from your body; it is from the magic. But feel free if you want to take a rest."
"There is no time, princess. But thank you for the drink."
256 days have passed, and it seems that they had made a good progress in the cure research.
Doctor Whooves predicts that the vaccine will be done around 2-3 weeks. After that, the vaccine will need to be manufactured.
He returns to Twilight at full joy as he wad closer to manufacturing the vaccine.
"That's pleasing to hear. I'm glad you partner with us."
"My pleasure, your Highness."
2 weeks later the vaccine has completed. He had to meet Princess Twilight and Cadance to show them the vaccine.
"So the vaccine had done?" Twilight asks
"Yeah, here is the sample. We just need to manufacture it. Vaccine production will only took a week to complete, and we will release the vaccine."
"Our scientists are on your back. Just do your best. I believe in you."
Doctor Whooves become happier. He then bows at Twilight and get his friends to manufacture the vaccine.
Doctor Whooves ventures to The Crystal Empire for the vaccine production. He shows the sample to Cadance and yes, no suspicion was present at the sample.
The sample he brought to The Crystal Empire was a copy of the original one, because the original one was used to be copied again and again and again.
He ventures again to Yakyakistan with another copy of the vaccine. So in total there are 1 original vaccine, 2 copied vaccine core, and they are dedicated to be copied.
Next week the vaccine production has completed, and now it is the time to release it worldwidely.
At the time vaccine was released, infected reaches 50M, the dead one reaches 17M, due to poor treatment in rural and remote places. On the other side, active cases are 16M. The other 33M ponies recovered.
2 weeks later, the doctors team up with scientists and Doctor Whooves and begun to fight the disease, easier than before, as everypony had been vaccinated.
Twilight and the two royal sisters holds an event of Doctor Whooves appreciation day for helping ponykind fight the lethal pathogen. When the event ends, Doctor Whooves meets Twilight Sparkle and thanked her for her and her friends' support. Twilight then smiles at Doctor Whooves, and builds a specialized hospital in Canterlot for him to work as doctor.
3 months later the construction finished, and Twilight named the hospital "Whooves' Clinic". Doctor Whooves after that continued his work as a very important doctor among the Equestrian doctors.
"I wonder if he knows the game Plague Inc..." Twilight mumbled.
