Chapter Three – In Urgent Care and Slow Recovery

Spike slowly woke up from the restful somber. The first sound that his ears pick up. It was a repetitively and annoying beeping from a machine. The blinding white light caused him to cover his eyes with his arm. He didn’t know where he was. The warm feeling poked him to ask for Flitter.

“Flitter, are you here?” He inquired with a dried tone as his eyes steadily adjusted to the light. After Flitter heard Spike asking for her, she instinctly woke up from her nap.

“Sweetie, you finally wake up. I was so worried about losing you,” She replied with a happy smile after getting out of the chair and lightly hugging her sweetheart. Then she showered him with a lot of quick kisses.

“You will not lose me easily, Flitter. Anyways, what are this place and annoying beeping sound? Can I have a drink of water, please?” He inquired, enjoying her affection.

“Yup, I know that. We are at the Ponyvile hospital because you had a nasty infection in your legs. Unfortunately, they had to remove them in order to save you. The sound is your heartbeat monitor. Sure, you can,”

Flitter walked out of the room to get him what he asked for. Spike’s eyes finally adjusted to the light. He saw him was in a hospital patient room and hooked up with multiple health monitoring machines. Then he looked under blankets to find out stubby and bandaged limbs instead of his legs.

“Flitter and I can make this work,” Spike thought as he was such relief not to have died from this unfortunate incident. After a few moments later, Flitter came back with a cold foam cup of water. She sat beside his bed and guided the straw into his mouth. He sucked out all of the refreshing liquid.

“Thanks, Flitter. I needed that,” He thanked with an energizing sign as she put down the empty cup with a straw on the nightstand.

“No problem, sweetie,”

The mare doctor walked into the room.

“Spike, you finally awake. Are you experiencing any pain below your hips?” She inquired with a warm smile.

“Nope,” He acquired as Flitter rubbed his claw with her hoof.

“Excellent, I am glad to hear that. You are fortunate to survive. One of our head surgeons exclaimed that she did not see this infection before. Anyways, you guys can go home in a few weeks. I will see you guys later, goodbye,”

The doctor exited the room to do her duty. Flitter and Spike were alone with each other. He noticed him getting cold.

“Sweetie, I am cold. Can you cuddle with me? Also, you turned off the lights, please?” Spike asked, giving Flitter his adorable puppy eyes expression.

“Aaaaaawwwwwwww, sure. Spike,” Flitter replied before going to the light switch and turning off the lights. Then she went back and carefully crawled on him.

“Am I hurting you?”

“Nah, I thought we cuddle in our favorite cuddle position. But, this is fine,” Spike exclaimed honestly, rubbing her back. She gave him a lidded look and a kiss as a gift for her massage

“Same here. I am afraid to move you anywhere due to your body is still healing from your emergency surgery.” She acquired while her wings covered him like a big blanket.

Spike and Flitter enjoyed themselves and fell asleep in each other’s warm embrace. The hospital staff checked on the interspecies couple without disturbing them during the night.

After a few weeks of sleeping a lot and boredom, the doctor slowly unwrapped Spike’s gauze to check on his healing process.

“Amazing, your stumps are nearly healed without any scars that I could see. In one week, you guys can go home and enjoy your lives,” The doctor exclaimed with a smile before wrapping Spike’s stubs with fresh gauze.

“Finally, we are bored out of our minds,” Spike replied with a tiny emerald green flame coming out of his mouth.

“Yup, we need well worthed private time with each other. Do you catch my drift?” Flitter added as she looked at Spike with lidded eyes. He did the same to her.

“Yes, and I relate. I will see you guys in one week to check his recovery process. Goodbye,” The doctor farewelled with a sweet smile before leaving the room.

A few moments later, Flitter closed the door and turned off the lights. Then she flew back to her sweetie.

“I am amazed that she did not ask how you are healing fast,” Flitter said with a slight giggle, climbing on the top of Spike.

“Same here; If she asks, I was going to say that because of a lot of sleeping and drinking my sweetie’s milk,” Spike replied honestly as he embraced her.

“Exactly,”

She passionately kissed on his lips while her feathery wings covered him like a cocoon.
