Taking Risks: “Introduction”
Load Full StoryHi, my name is Emerald Sky and I'm a professional thief, and I know that stealing isn't a good thing to do and just by the fact that for years now I had always got away with mine, the police doesn't seem to like me, and I am most likely to go to jail if they somehow catch me but, let me ask you one thing, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when someone says the word: "robbery"? Maybe the action of taking sompony else's property that isn't yours without any permission, or maybe a group of criminals trying to hit a bank... Yeah, that's what a normal pony would think, but for me, it's a full time job that requires: precision, time, concentration and lots of skill to accomplish something as complex as robbery, and you have to believe me when I tell you that robberies aren't easy, after all, for having precision, you need to be able to have the accuracy to even open a lock without the alarm going off, you need time, to analyze every single small detail about a bank if you are planning to hit one, for concentration, you need to have control of your hole body at any time even if a freaking bomb literally detonated just aside of you, and for skills, well for skills you need to be talented, but even if you have all of that, you need to have friends that can help you every time you need, after all, trying to hit a bank alone all by your self It's suicide, besides, having friends it's one of the most amazing things you can have, dying alone isn't pretty after all.
Even so, I've been caught in the act, I've been imprisoned and I've even been betrayed by one of my best friends, and one of the most sad things about betrayal It's not being lied or being cheated, It's that it never comes from your enemies, it comes from the one that you think it's your friend, it comes from the one that you think you can tell him/her you secrets, it comes from the one that you never thought it could betray you. You need to be careful, even with your friends, and even more if a lot of money it's on the line, I mean, one bit can buy you what? An apple? A piece paper? Maybe, but what about ten million bits? What comes to your mind? Probably almost everything right? Sadly the money it's what controls the world, you can do what ever you want if you have it, youn can buy a house, a hotel, rent a CASTLE if you have enough money but, what about friendship? Sure, you can have a lot of friends just by having money but, those "friends" wouldn't be real, they would want you just because you have money, they would let you die alone if you ran out of it, but, to be honest, I think there are a lot of ponies out there that don't care about the money, they actually care about you, and I think that there's more of them than you think.
Well, I already said to you how difficult robbery is, although, I didn't told you how easy stealing is, but aren't those the same? Well, of corse not! Robbery is a heist of big skill and weeks of planning every thing you're going to do when you are actually robbing a bank, or a jewelry store, or maybe even a casino, but stealing... stealing it's just taking somepony ele's property, of course you need to be fast and discreet but believe it or not, stealing it's just about distraction and diversion, let me explain it to you. When you have your attention on something, a bag for example, you can see it and feel it if you try to reach it. You turn around and you know it's there, your brain knows it and even your body knows it, but how are you so sure it's still there? Well is not as if it's going to go walking away right? You can just turn around again just to make sure but, what if you forget to turn around? What I mean is that if I make a diversion that it's good enough to make you forget about the bag, it will become an easy target, and it will become easier to steal. See what I mean? Your brain it's what it makes you think, see, remember, feel, I could go for ever, but that doesn't mean it can't be fooled, it may be the principal organ that makes your body stay alive but it's not that difficult to trick, that's how actually magicians make their performances, they trick you saying to look to one place, when the magic it's actually happening on another, in other words, they are making a diversion, and applying that to steal stuff you want or need, it's not a bad idea, but what about making a distraction? Are diversion and distraction the same? Not exactly, making a diversion it's tricking someone by talking or gesturing with your hoofs while putting the attention somewhere else, making a distraction it's something that directs one's attention away from something else, one creates a distraction while the other grabs the money for example, but in spite of that, both indicates the same thing: "Tricking".
Did I mention that I am friends with some mafia organizations? I have to tell you it's awesome, as long as you don't bother them of corse, but doesn't that make me more of a really wanted criminal than just a thief? Well, since I am not a "member" of them and I am just a friend I'm not, but I have done some robberies for them, so that involves me but, to be honest that makes me more of a thief and not a really wanted criminal, besides, when I do robberies I normally don't kill or use hostages like some others, I normally study the objective learning every movement, every door, every window, every single detail that you can imagine about the building and then come up with a plan of infiltration by blending in, (that sometimes may involve violence and even weapons, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna use them. Seeing blood makes me feel dizzy, and by "blood" I mean a puddle of it) after that, I study everything I'm gonna do and for that, I need a lot of practicing and rehearsing over and over again my movements and an emergency plan doesn't hurt any pony, so I also create one just in case things go wrong.
But in spite of the things I already told you, being a thief can also be stressful, and just because I'm one doesn't mean a like to be one all the time, sure the "paying" of the job is good sometimes, but you have to be careful about leaving a clue on the robbery scene, leaving even the slightest one can end up with you years in prison, being in one isn't fun, It's boring, that's why it may becomes stressful, you have to avoid making any mistakes, sometimes, I just wish i'd have never became a thief, I never wanted it in the first place.
Anyway, I had made tons of mistakes in my career that becomes experience that helps me on difficult situations that I normally ran into like: Getting caught on the act, screw up a hole heist, getting shot. You know, typical stuff. I have learned by proof and mistake a lot of things, some of them almost nearly killed me, and some others were simply just mental notes of never doing it again. But the first mistake I did was the one that started it all, it was the one that change my life from being a pathetic nobody, to the most famous and recognized robber of all equestria, and if you want to know how I got here, how I became what I'm now, go for some popcorn because the story I'm going to tell you will leave you fascinated.
