//-------------------------------------------------------// The Dark Tale of Lost Moon -by RevengeCats- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// 1 It isn't uncommon for a unicorn to be born with a burning passion for learning magic, but as they matured that usually wore off. Others, like I, Lost Moon, take magic and pursue it for their life. I consider myself greater than Star Swirl himself, not to brag or anything. But would Star Swirl be able to open to portal to bring the princess of the night herself back to our rotten land of Equestria? I remember the night she was banished, I was a small filly, who absolutely adored her beautiful night, Celestia’s night could never compare to Luna’s. I remember being quite disappointed, sad even, for our princess. That is the night I decided to change my name from Gusty Song, to Lost Moon. Our moon wasn’t the same, only Luna could make it the way it truly is, Celestia can simply move it. Since then, I was determined to learn magic and bring her back. There was only one problem, and that was Cherry Heart, he was a talented stallion, everypony adored him, he wasn’t even close to my talent of magic. He just happened to be able to grow crops with magic, any unicorn could do it if they tried enough. I had mastered that spell before I even got a cutie mark on my flank. Nobody really understood my knowledge or ideals, and I was fine with it. Until the day Cherry fell, he wasn't old or unhealthy, he was careless. Many unicorns fail to understand that our magic won't always agree with us or do what we want, that’s why practice is important, it doesn’t just keep our sparkle bright, it makes our power cooperate with us. Cherry had struck himself in the face after trying to get an apple tree to grow. That’s when I decided it was my time to shine, my time to help other ponies while also helping our Luna in the cosmos. I tried to tell them my ideas and show them what I could do for them. But they rejected me, thinking I had murdered Cherry and was on the side of Nightmare Moon. This drove me to the bitter pony I am today. I left the town after my own mother had cursed me out, this day made me the intelligent mare I am today. I went from village to village, sharing my ideas and my love for princess Luna, I wasn’t expecting anyone to follow me, but there were a few that loved my ideas and even shared the same. That’s when I made our little group, The Crusaders of the Lost Princess. My favorite member was Moon Walker, a talented dream walker. We had the most in common, she appeared in a few of my dreams, as she was a talented dream walker. It was a very uncommon skill to have, the only ponies being able to do it, being Princess Luna and a very old Wizard that nobody seems to remember, I don’t blame anypony for not remembering. Some moons passed and Moon Walker and I had grown closer than ever. She was the most beautiful mare I knew, her long blue and pink mane seemed to sparkle more than the night sky, and her eyes, my goodness the magenta color was unforgettable, they went well with her pristine white coat. I spent day after day with her, learning more about her past and discovery of dream walking magic, I listened, I loved her voice. It was smooth like silk, sweeter than honey. I would do anything to hear her again. There was one night I remembered the most, the night before her passing. She had her mane up in a long braid, wearing the black cloak she always wore, we sat together on a hill, watching the sunset. She turned to me, looking into my magenta eyes. “Moon,” she started, quickly looking away from me, “I-I’m sorry for what I’m going to do, but it must be done, in the name of Luna,” she sighed, cupping my cheek and giving me a gentle kiss on the lips. It was at this moment that I realized I was in love with her, and at this moment I also realized that I was going to lose her. Tears welled up in my eyes, I didn’t know how to process this, I couldn’t believe that she was leaving me, I didn’t deserve this, I had been so good to the world, and it betrayed me by taking my one true love. I watched her get up and walk away, and I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces. Grief overtook me for moons after that, I didn’t leave my home, and I didn’t speak to anyone. I constantly had dreams about my beloved, and I could never tell if it was her, or my mind making things up. I had hoped that she would come back one day, but she never did. So that left me lonelier than ever. Until one night, that was the least of my problems. I had a dream, a dream that would’ve terrified Moon Walker, the most fearless mare I knew. It showed the return of Luna, but it wasn’t her, it was Nightmare Moon. She wasn’t like anything I could imagine. She had a coat darker than darkness itself, fangs sharper than a newly made sword and piercing cyan eyes that seemed to stare into my soul. The sight of this mare- no, this thing sent a chill down my spine. “Who are you?” I spoke with a trembling voice, staring up at the monster in front of me. It just looked down at me with that chilling grin, then she stepped forward. “I,” she began, a slight chuckle emitting from her throat, “Am Nightmare Moon. Queen of the night,” she walked towards me, her hoof steps sounded like thunder, which only made me fear her more. I backed up and turned around to see if I could hide anywhere, or even run, but all I could see was a dark hallway that seemed to pull me in. I knew if I went down there, I would find a fate worse than death. “There’s no running little filly, I am only here to send a message to Equestria,” She lit up her horn and pulled me closer to her with the light blue aura of her magic. “Tell dear Celestia that I will come back stronger than ever and not even those elements will stop me,” She spat, acid laced onto her breathe. I nodded and lit up my own horn, casting a spell to get me away from her. “I will send your message. But only if you tell me exactly what- who you are,” I seethed, eyes narrowing to glare at the black thing in front of me. She seemed to glare back at me, but nodded. But before she could tell me anything, I woke up. I didn’t know what to perceive of the dream, other than knowing that the queen of the night wanted me to spread her word. So just as I was to do with Luna, I did with her newer, much stronger self. I will show her power and might through me, send everyone in this pathetic world exactly what she would do. -Signing off, Lost Moon. I certainly wasn’t expecting to find this in some abandoned cottage in the Everfree Forest, but here I am. I had also thought the tale of Lost Moon was some filly’s tale told to scare us around Nightmare Night. Everypony seemed to know who she was, Lost Moon, Equestria’s most infamous cult leader. Not much was known about her, other than the fact that she used to terrorize small villages with her stories of visiting Nightmare Moon in her sleep. Nopony belived her, that was, until she started to get more violent and went to torturing innocent ponies just to get others to join her sick cult. Most stories about her were different since it’s hard to find actual proof of her existence. That was until just now. What I had just found changes everything we knew about this mysterious and twisted mare. Normally, I would think this was fake and placed here by some rambunctious teens, but they don’t teach old Ponish is schools, and it was obvious that nopony had been in this little cottage in many, many years. I would definitely need to spend more time here. Maybe I’ll tell Fluttershy about it, as I’ve seemed to get her more into Equestrian history recently, or maybe Starlight... Either way, the truth must be known! And I must find out who her seemingly long-lost lover of her’s is. I think Moon Walker’s disappearance made something in her snap. She seemed to already have some slightly concerning problems in the beginning. Maybe I can visit Silver Shoals and ask Luna and Celestia about it, as at least Celestia would know a little bit about this dark piece of history. Author's Note This is the first fic I've posted here in quite a while, since last time, I have tried improving my story telling. Hope you enjoy.
