//-------------------------------------------------------// Please don't shatter -by Babycord- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// One meal. //-------------------------------------------------------// One meal. Cold. That was the first thought that came to mind as Honey Stir slowly arose from her not-so-pleasant slumber. The all too vivid nightmare that plagued her since day one was still fresh on her mind. Not that she expected anything less. Yawning the seafoam-colored Pegasus forcefully willed herself out of bed. As she did so she ended up nearly tripping over her hooves. Looking down she saw a set of pink heels near her corner of the bed. Rolling her eyes Honey mutters the name of her roommate. Still, even with this mind, she couldn't exactly find it within herself to be angry at her. At least not after all the crap she put Sour through. Still, the unicorn could at least pick up after herself once in a while. Or better yet not leave her things all over the place. Sighing Stir picked up the heels before putting them on the opposite corner of their one-room apartment. Once she was done the pony then proceeded to walk out of the room. As she did her sensitive nose caught scent of some well-needed breakfast. """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""'"""""""""""""""""""""""''''''' "Hey, there sleepy head!" Sour Lane, a dark grey unicorn with a streak-colored mane and tail, and one lone eye for a cutie mark smiled upon seeing Stir enter the kitchen. That smile turned into a frown upon noticing the expression on her roommate"s face. "Another nightmare?" "Just one of many" Honey stated before sitting down. Sour hummed, preparing a meal for both her and the Pegasus. "You gonna take a day off?" Honey shook her head. "Naw, just give me a few minutes and I should be alright". "You know you would feel much better if you told me what those nightmares were about in the first place". Again Honey shook her head. Sour was a good pony that was just a fact. The mare had a habit of approaching most problems with an open mind and a need for understanding. Sour wasn't the type to leave a pony to solve a problem all by themselves. More than anything she yawned to help those less fortunate than her. With that type of mindset, you would be more than a little surprised to find out that she was born into a life of nobility. Honey Stir sure was. However, even with this in mind, the mare wasn't exactly forthcoming when it came to well anything, including her emotions. It wasn't that she was afraid to express them. It was more that if she did she was afraid of what might happen next. Both for her and Sour. Upon realizing that wasn't gonna open up the unicorn sighed. To be honest, at this point she should have expected as munch. Since the very first day they met Stir refused to open up. Other than telling her a few things here and there the pegasi outright refused to talk about her past in vivid detail. All that Sour managed to get out over the eight years they been together were three things. One her favorite color. Two the types of music she likes, And three the name of the school that she went to when she was a filly. That was it. It sincerely pained her to know that even though they were best friends and got along well the Pegasus would rather choke on a rock than talk about herself. Still Sour had hopes that one day that will all change. """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "I'm going to the food handout today". "Is that stallion gonna be there?" Sour blushed. "N-no!" She stutters. Her face going as red as a tomato. "At least I don't think so". Stir hummed. Taking a moment to appreciate just how good the other mare's cooking truly was. Not to say that it is like a four-star meal, but Stir learned long ago that decent food was hard to come by. At least when you didn't have the bits to pay for it. "When are you gonna ask him out on a date?" Sour's blush deepened. Munch to Stir's amusement. "I keel telling you that it's not like that. Besides he doesn't say much of anything. At least until you start asking questions that go beyond yes and no". "So you're into the strong type silent eh? I never would have guessed". In truth, she knew that wasn't exactly the case. There were times in the past that Sour made it clear that she didn't have a type. Saying that implies that she favors one specific set of pony. At least until the relationship that she was in became outright romantic. No, for Sour loves goes further beyond a pony's looks or personality. To her, it was more so a spiritual connection that two-party's share when the time was right. Love isn't something you simply choose to do. If only the mare was around to tell her roommate that a decade ago. Still, the fact that she saw Sour blush upon mentioning him Honey knew that feelings were involved. The sound of sighing made the Pegasus look across the table with a raised eyebrow. 'What?" Sour bit her lip. "It's just every time I see him I see the pain in his eyes. He tries to hide it, but it still shows. The grey pony lowers her head. "The pain, it's an old feeling I can tell, but regardless it's slowly eating at his soul. If it wasn't for the mare that's with him I'm sure that it would have consumed him entirely". "You can't have everyone". The mare's voice was soft, gentle, almost had a motherly feel to it. The tone alone was something that Sour only heard once before. "It doesn't hurt to try right?" No, but sooner or later you'll realize that no matter how hard you try you won't be able to reach everyone". Sour nods. All though she found the truth a hard pill to swallow. Honey sighed. She wished that the kid in front of her was a bit more realistic. Though with that said she can't exactly fault her need to help others. After all, who was she to judge? Her actions in the past were selfish at best. At least until she became preg- Honey's thoughts suddenly halted. No. She can't think about it, not now not ever. Instead, the Pegasus chooses to refocus on the pony across from her. It was good timing since Sour looked as if she was about to speak. "Do you wanna walk with me to the program?" She questioned. Hope is clear in her voice. The reason probably had something to do with the thought of Honey having more friends. Not that the mare was all that interested. She rather preferred to be alone in all honesty. At least then nothing would hold her back from doing something she should have done a long time ago, And yet years before she met Sour she couldn't bring it within herself to commit the action. Why? The answer? Hope, however foolish it was. "Honey?" Upon hearing her name being called the pegasus looked at the pony before her. The look she received was downright pleading. However, by this point, her mind was was already made up. """''""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""'''"'"''"'"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "SHUT UP!" The sound of glass shattering echoed in Cold Spring's ears. The cause? "I HATE YOU!" Another meltdown. Upon hearing another scream he ducked. A second later a glass bowel flew over his head. Only to shatter into pieces upon hitting the wall. There was a gasp, a quick sob before a voice ringed in his ears. "SEE WHAT YOU MADE ME DO?!" Looking over at the wall Cold Spring, an ocean blue Earth pony stallion with yellow eyes, a grey mane, and tail with blue streaks running across both, accompanied with a half-open lock for a cutie mark sighed. He just had that wall repainted. "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" With each word spoken it was accompanied by the sound of some pony slamming their head against a solid surface. "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" Not wanting to risk walking over broken glass Cold went to retrieve the broom. As he did he cast a look over his shoulder and spoke. "Stop". As soon as the word left his mouth the sound vanished. Only to be replaced by frantic sobbing. "IM SORRY!" The mare wailed. The pony in question was a golden-colored pegasus. Said mare also had amber-colored eyes, a yellow mane, and tail, and a cutie mark that resembles a crack Well. To this day they had yet to find out what that exactly meant. "IM A TERRIBLE SISTER!" Cold shook his head at the motion. All the while focusing on making sure that all forms of glass no matter how small was swept up "No". "LIAR!" Sugar snarled. Her once tearful expression was replaced by a look of intense rage. "LIAR! LIAR! PANTS ON FIRE!". "No lies". Upon finishing his task Cold went ahead and threw away what he collected safely into the garbage can. "You hate me don't you?" It was phrased like a question, but the stallion knew that no matter how he answered the result would be the same. So instead he began scowering around for something to eat. Fridge? No. Cabinets? No. That weird-looking spot in corner between the fridge with dark symbolistic markings? Nada. "You probably wish that I was never here don't you?" Wanting nothing more than to see me locked up in a straight jacket". Checking the fridge one more time Cold shook his head. "Never". There was a scream in response. Closing the fridge the stallion began mentally counting Three. Two. One. A moment later he was enveloped in a strong and needy embrace. "I'm sorry." The way Amber's voice sounded mimicked that of a terrified foal. Cold closed his eyes. He hated this part. Not because of what I way she says, but because of the fear in her voice. It always made him feel like what he was doing wasn't enough. Amber sniffed, nuzzling into the crook of his neck. She breathed. Her brother's scent entered her nostrils, calming her, calming the voices, But it never calmed the figure watching her. The sound of Spring's voice momentarily broke through her mind like a knife through butter. "Let's get something to eat". //-------------------------------------------------------// Familiarity. //-------------------------------------------------------// Familiarity. "Mama im cold", Spoke a Pegasus foal. Her wings shivered in time with the rest of her body. If there was one thing Amber hated most it was the cold. Not just because of the temperature, but because it also meant that they would be stuck inside their little makeshift home. At least until starvation proved to be too much for them to handle. It was times like these that made her jealous of other families and their well-built houses. "Come here" A wing gently enveloped not only her but her brother who bared the cold with no complaint. Of course, that wasn't a surprise since her brother was the toughest pony she knew. Coming second only to their mother. Sighing Sugar buries her face into her mother's coat. Seeking a familiar warmth that her own body lacked. A second later an all too familiar voice reached her ears. "I'm sorry". The amount of pain that was spoken in that one word always confused Sugar. Glancing over to her brother the filly realized that she wasn't the only one. "Why are you sorry mama?" It wasn't her that spoke, but her brother. His voice alone carried an air of innocence that only a colt would have. In response, their mother merely shook her head before nuzzling them both. The look in her eyes always made the eldest stomach turn. Suddenly the sound of approaching hoof steps made them freeze. Oh no, not again. Tears were quick to fill sugar's eyes as the filly began hyperventilating. No-no-no. The pony gets closer. Sweet's vision began to blur. Her brother's hoof finds its way into her mouth. Clip clop clip clop. The filly began to quietly sob. Only for another hoof to reach under her chin. A second later amber eyes met a pair similar to their own. Her mother puts a hoof to her lips in a shushing motion. Her eyes pleading. Not wanting to upset her mother Sugar did as she was told, And not a moment too soon. """""""""""""""""""""""""""'"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "Not coming today eh?" Stir sighed before shaking her head. In response, her co-worker, a yellow buff-looking unicorn stallion by the name of Yellow Tone shook his head. "Don't worry about it she'll come around sooner or later" Knowing later probably meant around the older mare's death bed Sour nods. All though her expression is one of disappointment. For some unknown reason, Honey was not the type to willingly seek out companionship of any sort. Heck, the first time they met one another the mare wanted nothing to do with her. It took months of patience and goodwill before they were on munch more friendly terms. It took even longer for an actual friendship to blossom. "I just wish she was a bit more open you know?" "So you keep telling me". Snorting Yellow Tone merely patted the mare on the back. His expression is one of gentle encouragement. "As I said before no matter what happens don't give up okay? She'll come when she's ready". Nodding Sour gives the stallion a gentle smile. He was right of course. As much as she hated to admit she couldn't exactly force ponies to change for their benefit. At least in a way that was both detrimental to them and their future. Not that she wanted that type of power in the first place mind you. Still, it would have been better than seeing ponies suffer. Ot worse yet seeing them willingly destroy themselves. "Now let's go and feed all these hungry mouths shall we?" The unicorn nods, her smile growing. "Yeah, sounds good". """"""""'''"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""'""""""""''""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "What do you mean I can't get a refund?!" "That's company policy, sir". Upon hearing the matter a fact tone in Honey's voice the stallion growled. How dare this mare treat him like a fool! He was so much more than this mare could handle. "I want to speak to your supervisor!" "I am the supervisor". "Then send over your boss!" "He's out sick". The dark stallion gritted his teeth. His mint-colored eyes burned with barely suppressed rage. Honey was unmoved. Working at a GameStop wasn't exactly a dream job of hers. Nor was it tolerable in the slightest. Unfortunately, bits were low, and as such, she needed to find a solution. It was a mistake that she deeply regretted. The stallion leaned close. So close that Stir was able to smell his breath. Unfortunately for the mare's sensitive nose, it wasn't a pleasant scent. "Look bitch" he started. His hoof visibly shook from its spot on the table. "You either give me my money or you can risk your face getting smashed in". Sour blinked. "Is there anything I can help you with sir?" The stallion didn't respond. Instead, he merely sneered before turning and making his way towards the door. However just before he was about to exit he turned. The look on his face was downright vengeful. "Don't say I didn't warn you!" The door slammed shut. Once the coast was clear Honey scuffed before rolling her eyes. She could tell just by looking at him that the stallion thought pretty highly of himself. He also was the type who wasn't afraid to threaten others when he doesn't get in his way. Suffice it to say the asshole grew up pretty spoiled. Regardless she was more than a little sure that she had nothing to worry about, and if she was wrong? Well, she fought stallions before. "He didn't seem like a pleasant chap". Upon hearing this Honey merely nods. She didn't need to look over to tell that her boss was standing right behind her. The pony himself was old. So old in fact that if you were to push him even slightly there was a risk of him having a heart attack then and there. "You could have gotten me you know". Pin Wheel stated. There was a hint of amusement in his voice. That alone told Stir that he found the past interaction quite funny. Too bad said amusement was one-sided. Sour shrugged. She could have taken that route. Then again there was no telling how far the stallion was willing to go when faced with pony decades older than him. The strong take advantage of the weak after all. That was a lesson that the pegasus learned at a young age. Pin chuckled. Or at least Stir thinks he did. It sounded more like a wheeze than anything else. "Oh well, I suppose that if he ever comes back I'll go ahead and get the authorities involved". That made the mare's eyebrow raise. "You honestly think they care?" Pin looked over at her in confusion. "Never mind, I'll go ahead and hang up the new sign regarding the two for one discount". Pin nods. The confusion had yet to leave his face. "Sounds good, oh and feel free to take a break if needed". Stir nods appreciating the gesture. """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "Oh come on!" Honey shouted. The sign had once again made its way onto the pavement. Sighing the seafoam-colored pony decided to take a much-needed break. It only took a moment for her to pull out her container of cigarettes. It took her less than that to light one. Breathing in the toxins that may or may not give her cancer Stir began to look around. As she did she noticed a few ponies looking over at her. It was most likely because of two things. One her oh so ravishing looks. Or two because of the noticeable bags under her eyes. That's mainly due to her sleeping about once or twice a week. She suspected it to be the latter. Stir sighed before closing her eyes. As she did she thought about Sour. She felt bad about denying her offer. To be honest in the grand scheme of things it made little sense on her part. She could have spent the day spending time with a dear friend. Instead, she's stuck at her job dealing with a few game-addicting assholes here and there. The answer should have been obvious. "Yo!" A young, feminine, low pitch voice made Stir open her eyes. Looking over she saw a coral-colored Earth pony mare with crimson-colored eyes and a light brown mane and tail looking over at her. The mare's cutie mark was that of a giant rock. For some reason, Stir found that pretty strange. Then again her cutie mark consists of a knife piercing through three small hearts. With this in mind, Stir knew that she couldn't judge. At least not while the pony was right in front of her. "Yes?" "Do ya know where I find can find Tooth Fairy lane?" I'm trying to reunite with some old friends of mine". Stir paused. Now under normal circumstances, she would have just ignored the pony, but, the way her eyes shined with confidence, and how she stood with her head held high reminded Honey of some pony else A pony who looked vaguely similar. "Hello?!" Shaking her head Honey spoke. "Just keep going down then make a right at the stoplight go a few yards down then make a left". The mare nods," thanks". "Don't mention it". Turning her head away for a moment Stir took another puff of her cigarette. By the time she looks back the mare was gone. For a brief moment, the mare questioned if the pony ever even existed. //-------------------------------------------------------// Not too pleasant. //-------------------------------------------------------// Not too pleasant. "I'm a pretty pony!" Sugar shouted. The mare has done so already several times. Each time was no different from the words she used, to the overall cheerfulness in her voice, And just like before Cold nods. The stallion himself found the statement to be pretty accurate. Not to say that his sister was the prettiest mare to ever exist, but still. Of course just like before ponies stared. Some looked annoyed, others confused while a small percentage had on amused looks. They were ignored. The trio moved further down the line after a minute or two of standing stock still. Not that Cold minded all that munch. After all, a friend once said that good comes to those who wait. Too bad the mare herself wasn't all that patient. Then again it wasn't for a lack of trying. "I'm a pretty pony!" Walking circles around him with a smile and wide eyes was the golden-colored pegasus herself Sugar Sweet. Every few seconds she would stop, laugh, mutter a word or two before continuing her short and never-ending journey. Maybe that's why ponies were staring. Eh, oh well. The line moves. Cold takes a step or two. Sugar adjusts accordingly. "I'm a pretty pony!" "There's something wrong with her". The word themselves was a whisper. Meaning that the pony who whispered them didn't want to be heard. The reason for that could be many. Maybe the pony didn't want to be rude. Maybe it was because he didn't want to seek confrontation. Maybe for him, that little fact alone just had to be said. Either way, Spring's ears twitched in response. An all too familiar set of emotions, and thoughts swirled through him, loud, demanding, Violent. He breathes in. No, he refused to give in to old urges. Things were different now. Maybe not better but they were different regardless. "You're a pretty pony!" Cold blinked. Sugar smiles. Her gaze locked onto his, gentle, loving, and somewhat lucid. Cold smiles back. """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "Can we have two bags of bread please?" It wasn't Cold who asked, but Sugar. The pegasus voice was clear and coherent. However Cold knew that these moments were short and fleeting. They were never meant to last forever. Still, it made his heart swell. The pony behind the table blinked In surprise. It was understandable. After all, at this point in the journey Sugar wasn't exactly known for being talkative. At least towards other ponies. That was mainly his job. 'Oh!" The pony smiled, "here". She hands the pair two sets of grocery bags. In said bags were set of dry bread, and a few other necessities. Cold made a move to collect them. The stallion already holding a few other bags on his back. However, before he could Sugar reached over and yanked the bags out of the mare's grip. "Mine!" The other mare was startled by the action however her surprise was soon replaced by a smile. "Eager to help today aren't we?" Sugar didn't respond. Instead, the pegasus merely cradled the bags and the contents inside as if it were a foal. Turning his eyes away from his sister Cold offers the unicorn an appreciative nod. However just as the duo turned to leave the mare hurriedly spoke. Well more so shouted. "Wait!" The duo paused. Well, Cold paused. Sugar on the other hoof squealed before huddling behind her brother for safety. Upon seeing this the mare's expression turned into one of guilt. "I'm sorry!" She shouted once more. Only to cringe and cover her mouth with a hoof. In response Cold merely stared at the unicorn. A questioning look in his gaze. Upon noticing this she blushed. Cold found that to be more than a little odd. "Is there anything else I can do for you?" The question was simple and having met the pony a few times before hoof the stallion knew that it came from a place of genuine sincerity. However even with this in mind and even though they were currently in financial struggle he shook his head. He learned the hard way that the only pony you can depend on was yourself. "Do you like candy?" It wasn't the question that threw the unicorn off guard. No, it was the fact that Sugar was suddenly near inches from her face. By the holy grace of Celestia, she managed not to scream. """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""''''"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "Do you?" The pegasus asked. Her expression is one of burning curiosity. Taking in a breath to calm her racing heart Sour smiled. As she did a pair of amber eyes stared at her expectantly. Eyes that we're somewhat familiar, at least in terms of color. Then again it wasn't like random ponies couldn't have the same eye color or mane of a pony you knew. Regardless as she stared into said orbs she couldn't help but note how out of balance they look. Not the eyes, no it was the mare's emotions. They swirled around like a never-ending fire. Always changing, forming. Refusing to stay in one spot for too long. It both disturbed and concerned her. Granted she should have noticed this before hoof. After all, they have been around here for a good two weeks. Even if the pegasus herself never bothered to say a word until now. That alone was somewhat odd, but Sour was a pony who didn't like to judge. Regardless it was clear that this mare was troubled, and the fact that Sour didn't realize this up until this point made her feel guilty. This was her gift for Celestia's sake!" Regardless there wasn't munch the unicorn could do. At least not without going against the stallion's wishes, and something told her that doing so would not end up well. For who exactly? She didn't know. """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""'''''''''""""""""""""""""""""" "Yes, I like candy". Upon hearing her response Sugar grinned. However, the expression alone looked to be somewhat forced. "I like candy, especially the ones that I had while in a giant cage". Suddenly the pony's expression resembled that of a snarl. When she spoke again the disdain and hate were evident in her voice. "They said that it would make me feel better, that it would make sense of things". Suddenly she leaned close. Her eyes burned with such intensity that it made the pony before her freeze in place. "They were liars, every single last one" she sneered. However, there was a hint of something else in her tone. Something that boarded between reality and delusion, and for a moment the mare saw a glimpse of something in the mare's eyes. Fear, But not from the unicorn no, It was directed at no pony but herself. "Enough." "A firm, deep, but soft voice spoke. Immediately Sugar's expression morphs from a sneer to a cheerful smile. Or at least for what passes as a smile. The pegasus was by her brother's side in an instant. After staring at her for a moment Cold's gaze shifted back to the unicorn he has yet to know the name of, And by the expression on her face, he could tell that she was more than a little disturbed. That fact alone was more than a little understandable. After all his sister had the effect of getting under ponies skin. Spring was just thankful that it was just a mild interaction compared to the ones he dealt with in the past. Still, he felt pretty bad for the mare. With this in mind, he bows his head in apology. "Sorry". He turns and trots away alongside Sugar before the mare even had the chance to respond. //-------------------------------------------------------// Visitor. //-------------------------------------------------------// Visitor. "The door is unlocked". Now that fact alone wouldn't be a cause for concern. After all, an unlocked door was something that didn't need to be fussed about. At least not if you are the one who left it unlocked in the first place. The problem? Cold made sure it was locked before they left. Now he could have easily forgotten or simply thought that he locked it but didn't. The stallion always, always, made sure the door was locked before he leaves, and today was no different The fact that it was unlocked spoke of one single conclusion. Somepony broke in. With this in mind, the possibility of the intruder still being inside was low. After all a professional knows to never stick around for long. You get in and get out it was as simple as that. However, Cold's instincts told of a different story. Once again the stallion felt something within himself stir. However, instead of several different thoughts and emotions, he felt one thing and one thing only. Rage. Looking over at a very confused Sugar Sweet he spoke. His voice was as soft as ever. However, it was the look in his eyes that told the mare all she needed to know. "Let's play a game". """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""''"""""""""" Streamers was good at many things, but if you asked the mare what she was best at it would be breaking an entering. She knew that doing so didn't exactly make her look cool. At least not to the ponies whose houses she broke into. Still, the mare found it to be a useful skill to have. Too bad said skill ended up with her being locked up in Horse Grove. One if not the most worse prison in Equestria. It all happened so fast. One moment she was streets doing whatever was necessary to survive, And in the next, she was locked up in a place full of ponies munch worse than her. Ponies who had nothing to lose. It was jarring, to say the least. The first thing she thought of doing was joining a gang. However, she didn't exactly have a habit of following someone's orders. The thought of being looked down upon by those who are higher up in the gang didn't sit well with her either. With that said going alone wasn't the smartest idea. So instead she tried making friends. Ponies who could help her if things got rough. It started well at first. At least until they started asking for favors. So after giving out a few beatings here and there Streamers was once again back at square one. At least until they showed up. Two ponies, a mare and a stallion. The pair entered the joint looking even younger than her. The stallion, an Earth pony whose cutie mark was that of a half-opened lock never said munch. He mainly kept to himself and stayed close to the mare that he came in with. Upon seeing this the other ponies thought he was easy pickings. As such a group of long-term inmates waited until he went in the showers before following. They never came out. When the stallion exited with blood pouring down his face and a half-crooked smile Streamers knew that he was one tough bastard. It didn't take long for the guards to find the bodies. The mare on the other hoof seemed well, off. Scratch that she was batshit insane. The pegasus would scream, yell, cry, go on never-ending nonsensical rants, and would bash her head off against the stone-thick walls every chance she gets. It was only when the stallion was present that the mare calmed down. At least somewhat. However, despite all this the mare never outright attacked anypony. Not even when a stallion spat right in her face. However when said stallion proceeded to get into a scuffle with her companion something changed. Gone was the insane babbling mare and in her place was an entirely different pony. When it was all over hooves were covered in red. It wasn't long before ponies got the message that the new inmates were not to be taken lightly. However, the more Streamer watched the more that the duo seemed familiar. She saw them once before that she was sure of. However, try as she might she couldn't remember where or when. It also didn't help that she was probably high at the time. Regardless the mare spent countless nights wracking her brain. She tried and tried, and tried, but it all seemed pointless. That was until one day. For whatever reason sirens began flashing within the prison. Now, this happened around the time ponies were sleeping in their cells. Because of this Streamers was never able to find out why this occurred. However, as yellow light flashed over the mare's head it triggered something within her. A memory. """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" The sound of a window being smashed open awoke a certain Earth pony from her slumber. Yawning Streamers sat up from her newfound bed beside a dumpster. Not exactly the most comfortable of places, but after her last job she needed to stay low. What's lower than sleeping beside trash?" After stretching the mare decided to investigate where the noise was coming from. Of course, it wasn't exactly the smartest idea, but the mare figured that there might be a chance of getting something out of it. Either that or the chance of seeing one hell of a show. Finding where exactly the noise came from wasn't difficult. All she had to do was follow the yellow flashing light that she saw emitting from around a corner. Once she arrived the scene before was not one she was expecting. Breaking into a car where three ponies. One was a seafoam-colored pegasus mare with a golden mane and tail. Accompanying her we're a filly and a colt. The filly was also a pegasus who seemingly inherited the color of her mother's mane. The rest was yellow. With the sole exception being the mare's eyes. The second was a grey Earth pony colt. Said colt had a yellow mane and tail with streaks of silver. However, that wasn't what caught streamers' attention. No, it was how hungry they looked. All three ponies looked to have been suffering from starvation. Especially the foals. Not because the older pegasus looked any better, but because they looked like they were barely able to stand. The mare closed her eyes. The Earth-related pony came across desperate-looking ponies in the past. Hell, it wasn't even like she wasn't one herself. The only difference between her and the family before her was opportunity. Furthermore, Streamers was not known for having a heart. Having one just meant that others can take advantage of you. That was the only thing that her mother bothered to teach her. Still, upon the three, she felt something inside her twinge. Said sensation only grew the longer she watched. She sighed. Guess her food rations will become shorter than she previously thought. Or maybe disappear altogether. It's a good thing she has bits. """""""""""""""""""""""""""""''''"""""''""""'""""""""""""""" Upon finally remembering the pair Streamer decided to approach. More out of curiosity than anything else. It turned out doing so was the best decision she could have ever made. Clip clop clip clop. Upon hearing a set of hooves from her hiding place Streamer smirked. That smirk turned into a grin after seeing a figure pass by. "Where are you?" Streamers' ears began twitching upon hearing the pony's voice. Or rather her voice. Sugar. The mare's tone was upbeat, but Streamer wasn't easily fooled. She watched as the mare began looking around the room. An odd near maniac glint in eyes. "Come out, come out wherever you are" The pegasus paused. Her ears pointed upwards as she listened for any sound of movement. Nothing. The Pegasus suddenly screamed. Catching the other mare by surprise. "YOU DON'T THINK I KNOW THAT?!" She paused. Her eyes fixed towards an empty spot beside her. 'WHAT DO YOU KNOW!? Silence. "Yes, yes, you're right. It's only a matter of time before the pony appears and when they do will see it! See their soul passing through a mirror on the moon. A moon that reflects the time because time is important you can't abandon time, a pair of hearts, nor the lifeline on your vest". Another pause. Then a chuckle. "I am a pretty pony" Sugar Turned. Possibly to go search in another part of the house. Streamer struck. Or at least tried to. By the time the pony managed to stand after rolling out of her hiding spot a hoof was flying at her. She ducked. Only to get a hoof under her chin. The Earth pony stumbled. As she did a pair of hooves wrapped themselves around her neck. She froze upon feeling something sharp press itself against her throat. Not enough to break the skin, but enough to make its presents known. "Who are you?" Upon hearing a gentle, yet cold voice against her ear Streamer smirked. All though she was still a bit dazed from the surprise blow. Regardless the mare turned her head to smile at the stallion. "Who ya think?" //-------------------------------------------------------// No longer alone. //-------------------------------------------------------// No longer alone. "Move!" Streamers glared at a stallion who had the nerve to bump into the Earth pony while she made her way towards the cafeteria. The pony in turn glared back from over his shoulder. Rolling her eyes the coral-colored Earth pony decided the stallion wasn't even worth her time. With this thought, she continued on her way. A lot of rumors surrounded Horse Grove. One of the most prominent is that ponies were locked inside their cells under strict watch 24/7. Unable to do much of anything unless they risked invoking the guard's wraith. That was a lie. Believe it or not, ponies were allowed to roam and do whatever as they pleased. There was the downside and the exception. The downside being is that when a guard asked you to do something you do it. No matter how crazy or ridiculous it sounds. Unless you wanted to spend a good six months in solitary confinement. That only happens to the lucky ones. The exception to this rule is that once it hits ten in the afternoon all inmates were required to go back to their cells. One's who refuse to do so was dealt with on sight. streamer could still hear the screams of one pony who didn't follow that rule. Regardless as the mare walked she saw several ponies around her doing various things. Some smoked, screwed, gambled. While others merely hung out in groups or otherwise minded their own business. However, as Streamers went on her merry way the Earth pony began to hear the whispers of those around her. "Ponies in suits". "Shit! Where?" "Fourth wing". "That's not gonna be pretty". Streamers frowned. That statement alone couldn't be farther from the truth. """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""'''''"""""""""'''"""""""""""""'''''''''’””""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "It's happening". Cold paused. The stallion had previously spent his time pounding hooves against a solid wall. Sugar meanwhile rocked back and forth, muttering to no pony but herself. "Sure?" He asked. The stallion only needed to look in the mare's eyes to understand what she was talking about. Unfortunately what she was referencing wasn't good. At least to ponies like them. Streamers nods. She was known to be a bit of a jokester, but she would never joke about something like this. At least not while on the inside. "Im not stupid! You're stupid!" Sugar shouted. A look of genuine hurt crossed her face. However, that expression didn't last long as the mare suddenly bursts into fits of laughter. "Eyes in a tree! Never long never wrong always made sense! She laughed, and laughed, and kept laughing even as tears began to fall from her face. They were not tears of joy. The Earth-related mare felt something inside her ache as she watched the emotionally and mentally disturbed pegasus. She couldn't fathom what it was like to be in Sweet's shoes. Or Cold who was more or so taking care of her. Regardless the three of them were friends, and as such Streamers had a duty to look out for them as they would her. "When?" Upon hearing Spring's question she opened her mouth to respond. Only to get cut off by the sound of sirens. "Now!" Sugar giggled. Only to throw her head back and imitate the sound of a police car. Shortly after she did so there were sounds of heavy hoof steps coming towards them. Streamer scowled. Cold cracked his neck. Sugar kept making noise. It wasn't long before the swat team arrived. What happened after that wasn't pleasant. """"'''''''''''''''''''''''''""""""'''''''''''''''"""''''""""""""""""'"'"""""""""'''''''''''''''""""""""""'""""''""""""""'"""""""""""""""""""""""""'""""" "Stupid". Streamers rolled her eyes in response. The mare herself was currently lounging around on the living room couch, a blunt in hoof. "Aye, a pony gotta make sure that her friends aren't turning soft". A pair of yellow eyes stared at her in response. "Okay, so admittedly it wasn't the best idea". "I took your head off". The calm and almost nonchalant way Sweet spoke almost made Streamer laugh. Snorting instead she reached over the arch of the couch before putting a hoof on the ill mare's head. "Almost but not quite, I'll give you an A for effort though". Sweet smiled. This time it looked almost genuine. "Why?" Raising an eyebrow Streamers turn to look over at the yellow-eyed stallion. "You mean why am I here?' Upon seeing Cold nod she smirked. "I'm here to bunk with the only pair of ponies I trust". That wasn't exactly the truth. While she was looking for a place to stay that wasn't the sole reason for her visit. In truth she found herself missing the company of the odd pair. Not to say that she was the overall clingy type. Still after being alone for so long Streamer found that the very concept of being alone no longer fitted her. The mare tried connecting with others, but that did little to fill the void. With this in mind, she decided to forsake the life she already had for the sake of being around ponies that truly understood her. Hence is why she was here. If Cold had a problem with it he said nothing. Instead, he merely trotted over to the nearby closet before pulling out a sheet. However, he paused upon seeing the look that Streamers was giving him. "I'm not sleeping on no couch" the mare stated. The tone in her voice made it clear that there was no argument to be had. Again Cold said nothing. Not that he needed to his annoyed look alone said more than enough. "Colors aren't colors until the coloring is full". In response to The pegasus, Streamer ruffled her mane. Sugar for her part closed her eyes and hummed in contempt. The sound itself made her resemble a cat more so than a pony. Streamers chuckled. It was moments like these that made her heart feel like glass. Of course, the likelihood of her mentioning that to anyone was low. Especially since she was the toughest one in the group. Allegedly anyway. Even with this in mind, the mare wasn't one to back down from a challenge. Sooner or later she'll show the ponies before her what she's truly made of. After that, the title of the toughest pony will be hers and hers alone. Until then she'll get comfortable as she can in her new home.
