Chapter.21: A Sensational Service
Previous ChapterNext ChapterGranny Smith was buried near the apple and pear trees her daughter and son-in-law had grown. Her living relatives held a private memorial service, and all of Ponyville took a month to grieve her death, taking time to look back on the mare who was responsible for the town's growth via her Zap Apple jam.
By the time the grieving period ended, the church in Ponyville was completed. Bob and Larry named it "St. Smith's Church" in honor of Granny Smith. Shortly after, Bob and Larry decided to hold the church's first service, and Equestrians from near and far came to visit. This church was not ordinary and didn't look like any building in Equestria. It had pillars over the entrance, which led to a large lobby, a sanctuary with rows of pews and a semi-circular stage, and an entrance to a postal room with a stained glassed window. Behind the lobby were broad curved stairs that led to a second floor with a library and classrooms. Across the lobby was another room that had an entrance to a gymnasium, as well as the entrance to a big basement with a kitchen and a meeting room.
Discord was at the entrance acting as an usher, handing out brochures for the church, "Welcome to St. Smith's Church, a house of worship built by yours truly."
The Mane Six and Spike entered the church as Fluttershy approached Discord and hugged him tightly. "Oh, Discord, I am so proud of your ambition to keep my reformation of you worthwhile."
"Yeah," said Spike, "Big Mac and I have never been happier about spending time together with you."
"How heartwarming," said Discord as he returned the hug to Fluttershy, "I should've understood the power of friendship a long time ago."
"And because of that," said Twilight Sparkle, "you have done us all a big favor in getting this sacred building in operation. It is much more extravagant than the churches I'm familiar with near Canterlot High."
"I immensely admire the exterior and interior architecture," said Rarity.
"The fact that Bob and Larry would include a gymnasium is awesome!" said Rainbow Dash.
"Speaking of whom," said Applejack, "it looks like the service is just getting started."
"Ooh, I can't wait!" said Pinkie Pie. "Let's take our seats for our first church service!"
As everypony sat down in the pews, Bob and Larry went up on stage to begin their sermon.
"Good morning, everyone. We are honored to stand before you today in Ponyville's first church. This building represents more than just wood and nails; it symbolizes a community coming together in faith and devotion. Today, we want to share a heartfelt and inspiring story about two wonderful individuals: Granny Smith and Cozy Glow."
"That's right, Bob. As many of you may know, Granny Smith lived a long and fulfilling life. She was a cornerstone of our community, constantly working hard on the Apple family farm and sharing her wisdom and kindness with everyone she met. But what some of you may not know is that shortly before she passed away, Granny Smith experienced something deeply transformative—she gave her heart to Jesus."
"It's a beautiful story. Granny Smith found solace, hope, and renewed strength in her faith during her final days. Her decision was not made in solitude; it was guided by another remarkable individual who also discovered the path to faith—Cozy Glow."
"You might remember Cozy Glow as a young filly who once lost her way. She made some mistakes, as we all are prone to, but her journey didn't stop there. Cozy Glow found redemption and turned her life around when she embraced the teachings of Jesus Christ. She opened her heart and allowed His love to guide her actions."
"And this newfound faith in Jesus led Cozy Glow to Granny Smith. Cozy Glow shared her own story and the teachings of Jesus with Granny Smith, offering her comfort and friendship in her final days. They prayed together, read the Scriptures, and discussed the promise of eternal life and the unending love of Christ."
"In this sacred time, Granny Smith found a peace that transcended understanding. Her faith assured her that she was not leaving us but moving on to a beautiful place with Jesus by her side. Cozy Glow's willingness to share her faith helped Granny Smith find this peace."
"We can learn so much from Granny Smith and Cozy Glow. One practical lesson is the incredible power of sharing our faith with others. Just as Cozy Glow did with Granny Smith, we can touch the lives of those around us and lead them toward love, compassion, and redemption through Jesus."
"Another lesson is forgiveness and redemption. Cozy Glow's story shows us that no matter what we've done in the past, we can always find our way back to the light. Jesus forgives us, loves us, and will guide us back on the right path if we open our hearts to Him."
"Indeed, Larry. As we reflect on Granny Smith's and Cozy Glow's journeys, let us be inspired to open our hearts, share our faith, and continually seek redemption. These virtues can strengthen us, bind our community, and guide us toward a brighter future. Today, we would like to share a parable from the Bible that holds a special meaning to our discussion about faith, forgiveness, and redemption. It's the story of the Prodigal Son from the Gospel of Luke. This timeless tale illustrates God's unconditional love and grace, ideals that shine through Cozy Glow's path to salvation."
"You see, there was a man who had two sons. The younger one told his Father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So, the Father divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country, and squandered his wealth in wild living."
"After he had spent everything, a severe famine swept through that country, and he found himself in dire need. He began to work in the fields feeding pigs and was so hungry that he longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating. But no one gave him anything."
"Finally, he came to his senses and said, 'How many of my Father's hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my Father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.'"
"So he got up and went to his Father. But while he was still a long way off, his Father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. The son said, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'"
"But the Father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. He put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate."
"Isn't that a powerful story? It teaches us that no matter how far we stray or how many mistakes we make, there is always hope for redemption. God's love and forgiveness are boundless."
"This story reminds us of Cozy Glow's journey. Like the prodigal son, Cozy Glow once strayed from the path, making choices that led her away from what was good and right. She felt lost, burdened by her actions, and engulfed by a sense of helplessness."
"But then, just like the prodigal son's moment of realization, Cozy Glow had her turning point. She realized the depth of her mistakes and felt a heartfelt desire to change, to seek forgiveness. She opened her heart to Jesus, ready to embrace His guidance and love."
"With Jesus' love, Cozy Glow found redemption. She was forgiven and welcomed into the fold with open arms, just like the Father did with his returning son. Her story resonates with the parable, showing us the transformative power of sincere repentance and the boundless grace of God."
"So, just as the Father celebrated the return of his prodigal son, let's rejoice in Cozy Glow's salvation. Let's celebrate the new life she found in Jesus and the hope that each of us can find if we turn back, no matter how far we've strayed."
"We hope this story and Cozy Glow's experience inspire you all. Remember that God's love for us is immense, and His arms are always open, ready to welcome us back. Now you will hear a testimony from Cozy Glow herself."
Cozy Glow got up on the church's stage as Mudbriar prepared a potter's wheel with some clay on top. Cozy Glow then began to sculpt the clay with her hooves.
"Hello everyone! I'm so grateful to be here today to share my story. My journey with God has been transformative, and I'd like to illustrate this journey while I work on this clay pot. This craft is a beautiful metaphor for how God works in my life. The Bible says in Isaiah 64:8, 'Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay; you are the Potter; we are all the work of your hand.' This verse encapsulates my experience perfectly."
"There was a time when I felt lost, directionless, and burdened by my past decisions. Back then, I was like this lump of clay—shapeless, uncertain, and filled with potential but not yet formed into anything meaningful. I tried to mold myself, relying on my understanding and effort, but the results were often flawed and led to more brokenness inside me."
Cozy Glow dipped her hooves in water and smoothed the surface of the clay.
"One day, I reached a point where I couldn't go on as I was. I felt hollow and purposeless. That's when I turned to God and surrendered myself fully to Him. I said, 'Lord, take me as I am. Shape me, mold me according to Your will.' As water softens the clay, God's grace softened my heart, making it receptive to His gentle and loving hands."
Cozy Glow began shaping the pot's walls, creating a defined structure.
"As I allowed God to work in my life, He began shaping me, just as I am shaping this clay. Every spin of the wheel represents the passage of time, and with each moment, God has been molding me—correcting my flaws, smoothing out my rough edges, and forming me into a vessel of His love and purpose. It wasn't always easy. Sometimes the process was uncomfortable and challenging, but I trusted that Potter knew exactly what He was doing."
Cozy Glow added intricate details to the pot, showcasing the beauty emerging from it.
"God's work in my life has brought about changes I never thought possible. He has transformed my brokenness into something beautiful and functional. I've learned that when we surrender to God and allow Him to be the Potter, He can take even the most misshapen lump of clay and turn it into a masterpiece. Before, I was directionless; now I see myself as a vessel created to carry His love and share it with others."
Cozy Glow lifted the finished pot from the wheel, presenting it to the audience.
"This pot symbolizes my journey with God. It started as a simple, unformed piece of clay, and through the skilled hands of the Potter, it has been crafted into something beautiful and purposeful. My relationship with God has given me new life, direction, and a profound sense of hope. Just as this clay allowed itself to be shaped, I encourage you to place yourselves in God's hands. Trust Him to mold your life. His design for you is more beautiful than anything you could imagine."
Cozy Glow then began to sing a song that Bob and Larry had taught her:

"Thank you for listening to my testimony. Remember, we are all the work of His hands, and His love for us is eternal and unchanging. Just as the clay becomes a vessel under the care of the Potter, we too can become vessels of His love and grace when we surrender to His will."
Cozy Glow hugged Bob and Larry as she exited the stage, and then Bob and Larry came back on the stage.
"Let's take a moment now to pray in gratitude for Granny Smith and Cozy Glow," said Larry. "Their journey and the lessons they've taught us. May we carry their stories in our hearts and find ways to share God's love with everyone around us."
"Dear Lord," began Bob. "We thank You for Granny Smith and Cozy Glow's lives and for the lessons they have taught us about faith, redemption, and love. Guide us to be lights in the lives of others, sharing Your word and Your love. Amen."
"Thank you for listening, everyone," said Bob. "Let us strive to embrace forgiveness, seek redemption, and share this beautiful message of God's endless love with everyone we encounter."
"Now," said Larry, "we have prepared a picnic outside on the church grounds with activities for the children, and you are all more than welcome to join us."
The sun shined brightly over the church grounds as the ponies gathered for a picnic, laughter and cheerful chatter filling the air. Cozy Glow played with nearby fillies and colts while adults watched contentedly from their picnic blankets. In the midst of it all, Sunburst and Starlight Glimmer were sitting together, enjoying the day's warmth.
Sunburst was staring fondly at Cozy Glow while she played. "Starlight, watching Cozy Glow today fills me with so much joy. Seeing the way she's blossomed and found her place… it's all thanks to you."
Starlight Glimmer smiled warmly and blushed slightly. "Oh, it's not just me, Sunburst. It's the community and Cozy herself. She's worked so hard to become the amazing pony she is."
Sunburst leaned closer, his eyes glowing with admiration. "Still, you deserve so much of the credit. You've been like a mother to her, guiding, teaching, and loving her unconditionally. I'm so proud of you, Starlight. I've always been amazed by your strength and compassion, but in these past months, I've seen a new light in you that shines so brightly because of the love you've shown Cozy."
Starlight Glimmer had tears of joy welling in her eyes. "Thank you, Sunburst. Knowing that you see, that means the world to me."
Sunburst took Starlight's hoof gently, his heart pounding. He took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the special moment. He began to speak with a trembling but heartfelt voice. "Starlight, there's something I've been meaning to ask you. Becoming a family with Cozy has shown me what a precious gift it is to have you in my life. You've brought us together and shown us what love truly means. So, I was hoping...well, I thought maybe it's time we make it official."
Sunburst reached into his bag and pulled out a small, beautifully carved wooden box. He opens it to reveal a sparkling engagement ring.
"Starlight Glimmer, will you marry me?"
There was a moment of stunned silence, followed by joyful giggles and excited cheers from nearby ponies who had overheard the proposal. Starlight's eyes widen in surprise and delight.
Starlight Glimmer gasped, then broke into a radiant smile. "Yes! Yes, of course, I will, Sunburst!"
Sunburst slipped the ring onto Starlight's hoof, and they embraced tightly, sharing a kiss that sealed their moment of commitment. The onlookers clapped and cheered.
Cozy Glow among them, her wings fluttering wildly with excitement. She ran towards them and hugged them both. "Golly, I'm so happy for you two! This is like the best day ever!"
Sunburst laughed and hugged Cozy Glow. "Thank you, Cozy. This day is even more special because you're part of our family."
Starlight Glimmer held Cozy Glow close. "Yes, Cozy, we wouldn't be here without you. You've brought us so much joy and love."
As the celebration continued, the little family sat together, basking in their joy and the warmth of their love, knowing they were truly blessed. The Mane Six, Spike, and Trixie walk up to them and share their reactions.
"Oh my goodness, this is incredible news!" said Twilight. "Starlight, you've come such a long way, and I couldn't be happier for you and Sunburst. Congratulations to both of you!"
"Well, I'll be!" said Applejack. That's one of the best pieces of news I've heard in a long time. Congrats, y'all! You make a wonderful couple, and I'm sure you'll have a future as bright as the sun and the stars."
"Whoa, that's awesome!" exclaimed Rainbow Dash. You guys totally deserve it. This calls for some celebratory flying stunts! I bet I can do a double Sonic Rainboom to mark the occasion!"
"Oh, darling, this is simply marvelous!" admired Rarity. "I must design the most stunning wedding dress for you, Starlight. And Sunburst, you'll need a dashing suit to match! Congratulations, sweetie, I'm over the moon for you both!"
"Oh, that's just so wonderful!" said Fluttershy. "I'm so happy for you, Starlight and Sunburst. This is such lovely news. I'd be delighted to assist if you need any help with the wedding planning."
"Eek! This is super-duper amazing news!" cheered Pinkie Pie. "We need to throw the biggest, most spectacular engagement party ever! With cake, confetti, and lots of fun! Congrats, you two lovebirds!"
"Wow, that's fantastic, Starlight and Sunburst!" said Spike. "I'm happy for you both. If you need help with anything, you know you can count on me!"
Trixie was trying to hide her emotions but failing somewhat. "The Great and Powerful Trixie is ecstatic and... well, Trixie may have shed a tear of joy, but DO NOT tell anypony! Starlight, Sunburst, together, you will perform the most magical act of all—lasting happiness. Congratulations, my dearest friends."
Bob and Larry then hopped over to hear the news.
Sunburst nervously adjusted his glasses and said, "Hello, Bob and Larry. Starlight and I want to share some exciting news with you both."
"That's right! Sunburst and I are engaged, and we were hoping to ask for a special favor from the two of you."
"Wow, that's wonderful news!" said Bob. "Congratulations to both of you! What do you need from us?
"Yeah, congratulations! This sounds super exciting! What's the favor?"
Sunburst glanced at Starlight and spoke again. "Well, we were hoping to have our wedding at the church. It has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which significantly benefits us.
"And, if it's not too much to ask," said Starlight. "We'd be honored if you two would officiate the wedding. You've both been such amazing friends and role models to us, and it would mean a great deal."
"Oh, that's so sweet," Bob admired. We'd be absolutely delighted to have your wedding at the church, and it would be our honor to officiate your special day. Right, Larry?"
"Yes, yes! This is going to be the best wedding ever! We'd love to participate and help make your day as special as possible!"
"Thank you both so much!" beamed Starlight. "We can't wait to get started on the preparations!"
"Yes, thank you. This means everything to us."
"There's no need to thank us; it's our pleasure," said Bob. Now, let's get planning!"
So Bob and Larry scheduled the wedding in three weeks at St. Smith's Church later that evening and arranged a meeting in the church basement with the Mane Six and Spike.
"Thank you all for attending our first church service," said Bob. "Larry and I have never been officially ordained as pastors, so this is the closest we will get to having that opportunity."
"Yes," said Larry. We planned this meeting to express our appreciation for your fondness for the power of friendship. After we finished our second video, we went to work on our third one, "Are You My Neighbor?"
"I've noticed that you titled every one of your videos with a question," observed Twilight.
"Correct," said Bob. "It relates to how children ask to handle fear or forgive others. This video helps with friendship by teaching kids how to love their neighbor."
"The lives of countless children have been improving thanks to you two," said Fluttershy.
"Exactly," responded Rainbow Dash, "you're both too fun and entertaining not to listen to."
"Well, this video was inspired by the power of friendship here in Equestria," said Larry. "We completed it a month ago and were about to let the seven of you experience it in our VR machine. "However, we thought the most respectable thing to do was to take some time off to remember Granny Smith after she passed away."
"Thanks, y'all," said Applejack. "I also can't be more grateful for dedicating this church to the memory of my grandma."
"We will never forget Granny Smith's legacy and how she placed Ponyville on the map of Equestria," said Rarity.
"Very true," said Larry, "but if you're ready, we can take you to our studio to try out the video."
"That's right," said Bob, "Cozy Glow experienced it earlier, and she says you will have never been more proud of the magic of friendship."
"Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! VeggieTales is now a trilogy!" exclaimed Pinkie Pie. "Those three videos are just enough to make a full-length film!"
"Are you saying we can adventure in the VR simulator tonight?" asked Spike.
"Correct," said Bob. It's now Larry's and my turn to show you the importance of friendship."
"Let's get you all back in the VR simulator for a fun night!" said Larry.
"Woo-hoo," cheered Pinkie Pie, "by the way, Larry, briefly off-topic, just out of curiosity. Has your voice gotten higher recently?"
Larry raised an eye, "I don't know what you mean, Pinkie Pie; I'm over 21 years old, and my voice has deepened since I completed puberty."
"He he," Pinkie Pie giggled nervously, "never mind."
"Oh, Pinkie Pie," Larry shook his head with a smile, "you are a peculiar pony."
Bob and Larry guided the Mane Six and Spike down the hallway to another room, where there was a warp portal to the countertop studio; Doctor Whooves recently completed it. "Cheerio, the basement portal is ready and functional; Borlaug and Mendel are quite the pair to do science projects with. They went back to their workshop to work on another secret invention."
"Oh yes," said Bob, "I've been wondering about the progress of that."
"What are you referring to, Doctor Whooves?" asked Twilight.
"It is a secret," responded Doctor Whooves, "you'll find out all about it sooner or later."
"Thanks for your assistance, Doctor Whooves," said Larry.
"The pleasure is all mine," said Doctor Whooves, "now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a date with Derpy Hooves. Thanks to you, Bob, and Larry, she's been more confident in herself."
"Say hello to her for me," responded Bob.
Bob and Larry then took the Equestrian gang through the portal onto the countertop via QWERTY. They headed to the basement, where the Mane Six and Spike entered the VR simulator, and then Bob and Larry entered the monitoring booth. As the six ponies and dragon got settled in, they heard the familiar voice of ADA again. "Welcome back, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Spike."
"Alright, ADA!" said Pinkie Pie, "what charm do you have in store for us on our third-time adventure?"
Then the simulator began flashing bright lights in the front, and the Equestrians felt the sensation of their eyes being pushed back into their skulls as they were launched into the realms of video land.
Author's Note
If you are wondering what St. Smith's Church looks like. It is based on the very first church I ever went to as a child. I even went to preschool there. Here is their official website:
