Dark wanderings, light ending
The Abyss
My name is Twilight Sparkle and it has been three and a half years since I fell into the darkness. This is the first entry I have made since the morning I fell into this accursed black labyrinth. I stumbled across this journal while wandering these endless depths. I haven’t seen any light other than my own magical light from my horn, I miss the sun but I miss the stars even more, they had a chaotic order about them the way they seem scattered about the night sky in just the right places. Nothing looks pony made or any other race, its just rock walls and tunnels. I’m going to sleep now, ill write more later.

Sleeping only makes things worse, every time I dream its the same one, I’m lost in the dark crying, I have no hope left, but a light shines through the gloom and my friends are running towards me. I hate that dream. it hurts less after so long but it still makes me think of the pain that my friends must have went through, they surely must have looked for me while they gradually lost hope, and that pain never lets up. im sorry, I don’t feel like writing much now.

I found my way back to a cavern that I haven’t been in for a year or so. There’s a small pool of water here but I don’t need to drink or eat anymore, I don’t know why, it frightened me for the first few months but I don’t even think about it any more. If only it could have happened when I was still in ponyville, think of all the studying I could have done! studying is part of the reason im down here, I just had to investigate that crevice, for somepony as intelligent as me that was a stupid thing to do. oh well, nothing I can do now, I still need to find more coal to make ink with my supply is getting low.

I cant believe I just thought about it now! what is a journal doing down here? I haven’t seen anything else for weeks after finding it, could I be losing my mind? if I had a journal when I fell then why was it just laying in a tunnel, and why did it take me three and a half years to write in it? this is disturbing. Why don’t I remember anything about finding it!...what’s happening to me?

I made carvings on the wall today, they resemble my friends, it took me forever to get everyone just right, the hardest part was applejack’s hat, I miss you girls so much.

I thought I heard a voice awhile ago, its nothing new to hear them, but this sounded real. It sounded sad, but not just sad, sad with its self for some reason. I tried to trace it with my magic but I couldn’t find anything.

I found a tunnel that I haven’t been down before, there’s no sign of my horn scratching, its like I’ve been passing for all these years and haven’t ever seen it. I’ll write while walking.
Its beautiful, The rock started to give way to marble and now the air is getting some kind of smell to it, flowers? I’m not sure. A door! there’s a door! I’m not sure how to open it but just seeing it makes me think there’s something with some kind of intelligence on the other side. I have to figure this out, if this door is a way out I have to open it.

I tried to use a come to life spell on the carvings of my friends sometime ago, it worked, but their still just moving carvings with no emotions or personalities. Its still comforting to have them along with me when I’m walking about in the darkness or when I’m studying that door, I just wish they could talk. There may be a way to give them some kind of emotion, or feelings, just make them a little more real. Being alone for so long is starting to get to me. The pony who had no friends for so long is getting lonely, it’s ironic really. I never wanted or tried to make friends when I was just a filly, but now that I can’t be with the ones I have, I want them even more. I’m trying to make them real down here with me, its one of the few things that keeps me sane, along with this journal and that door I found. I think I’ll try sleeping for a few hours, try and let my weary mind rest and convalesce.

I had a new dream this time, it was only a white room with bright lights and fuzzy images, but at least it was something other than that depressing scene of happiness. Oh! I carved a little room in the side of a tunnel, It’s just big enough for me to lay down in, but it was fun and something to keep me occupied. I might even try to make a few shelves to keep some interesting rocks I found on, as well as this journal. Surprisingly enough it was easy, my magic must have grown stronger since I use it all the time for light, I felt like I could have gone forever, but I want to plan it out since I have to live in it. Besides, what would Celestia think if her faithful student did something with out a plan? I know exactly what she would think. Good for you Twilight, doing something for fun without planning everything out, you should really do it more often. I can even picture the look on her face. Looks like my entries are getting longer.

I’m back at the door now, I’m going to write down anything that may help me in opening this door. Pushing on the door doesn’t work ( yes its basic but got to try everything). Trying to push it open with magic gives me a little pain at the base of my horn, I stopped as soon as I felt it. I can’t lose the use of my magic, not down here, the dark terrifies me even more now that I might have a way out. I’ve even resorted to using ancient incantations that I studied back in Canterlot before I moved to ponyville, It might sound silly but anything that might work is considered. I tried scratching runes on the door, they stay until I complete them, then they disappear. The same thing with magic circles, although they do flash before they go. I’m going to try and use my magic one more time, maybe if I build it up in my horn before applying it to the door. Here it goes.

I must have passed out. I’m sure I heard a voice before I blacked out, like a cry of pain and anguish. There was also some kind of force trying to stop me, it was so powerful, I poured all I had into that spell. Is there something trying to keep me here? I don’t want to be here! I don’t want to be alone! I don’t want to be in the dark for the rest of my life! I want my life back, I want my freedom back, I want MY FRIENDS BACK!!!
The aura holding the journal aloft faded as Twilight charged up her horn with every ounce of magic she had. Fueled with her anger the glow intensified until nothing but a white blinding light filled the tunnel, chasing the darkness back. When she opened her eyes pure light came pouring out with such heat that scorch marks appeared on the door, stepping forward she readied her final attempt. Just as she was about to release her power, the door before her opened, and she stepped through with enough power to kill whatever was on the other side that dared to keep her away from her friends.

Twilight opened her eyes and was blinded, by light. Her light, her power, she was ready to destroy. As her eyes adjusted to the brightness she could see five terrified faces. Faces that belonged to her friends. Looking around she also saw the princesses, with their horns glowing ready to defend every one in the room. A look around the room and she noticed the familiar walls of the ponyvill hospital. Shedding off her power like a star sheds off its light. Twilight slowly fell to the floor.
“Twilight!”
“Applejack?” Twilight said in a horse voice, looking back to her friends.
“Yeah it’s me, ya’ll alright sugarcube?” She said as she moved closer to her friend.
“I…I don’t know…What happened to me?” sitting up twilight held a hoof up to her head. “Why am I in a hospital?”
“Maybe I could answer that Miss Sparkle.” a soft voice from behind answered. Turning toward the voice Twilight saw Luna approaching. “I was on my way to our old home in the Everfree to collect some things that were left long ago when I noticed you. Close to the edge of the great chasm, you were so busy examining something that you had no idea of my arrival.” Luna hung her head before she continued. “I startled you and…and you fell. Down in to the great darkness.” tears now sprinkled the floor from Luna’s muzzle, flung about as she started to shake. “I couldn’t catch you before you hit the bottom. When I found you, you were unconscious, I tried to wake you but nothing I did would work.” Sobs now racked the lunar princesses body. “I’ m sorry.” The last sentence was said so quiet it was almost a whisper.
“I forgive you princess, I know you didn’t do it on purpose.” Twilight smiled as she reached out and hugged Luna. “I’m just so happy to be awake, you have no idea what I went through.”
“Pinkie knows.” said Rainbow Dash. “She kept telling us everything she could, it was so awful. But you’re here now! So lets move on from all this bad stuff.”
“Yeah now that your awake, I can finally throw your big welcome back party!” Pinkie said as she bounced around the room, already planning the entire thing.
Fluttershy moved closer and gave twilight the tightest hug she ever got. “I’m so glad your back, it must have been so scary.”
“It was Fluttershy, but every time it got to be to much, I just thought of all of you.”
Rarity chimed in. “I’m sure it was darling but you really mustn’t think of such things now, a quick trip to the spa would do you some good, just sometime to relax and talk with all your friends.” She said as she moved to twilights side. “Even Rainbow Dash said she would go if you wanted.” She said with a small smirk.
“That sounds wonderful Rarity.” Twilight looked toward the princesses and continued, “In fact I think everyone should come.”
“Now really Twilight,” said Celestia, “Do you know how much of a commotion Luna and I would make if we were to go?” Twilight nodded. “Then go we shall!” Celestia smiled.
Eight friends left the hospital after checking twilight out and promising Nurse Readheart that Twilight would take it easy, and headed towards the spa. From the shadows two voices quietly conversed. “She almost killed me! If I hadn’t opened that door I would be dead!” A gruff voice said angrily.
“Shut up. I don’t know how she did it but she amassed enough power to kill the both of us.” A smooth silky voice quite hissed.”
“Father will not be pleased.”
“No, he wont.”
[A/N] This was originally meant to be a one-shot, buuuuttt….. Maybe it will be continued? This was just something I wanted to try, and I’m hoping it will break my writers block so I can continue my original story, Shadows of the Past (Might change the name of that though, to many with the same name.)
