Chess Checker, a young stallion from Cloudsdale, has been pursuing law since he was a colt, with chess-playing being a natural talent for him. When 17-year-old Chess Checker met a crimson unicorn named Edgeworth, and discovered he was a district attorney at Canterlot, Chess felt his dream may have finally been fulfilled.

It is now 10 years from that day. Chess Checker has graduated from Edgeworth's lessons and is on his 3rd year of being a prosecutor. Meanwhile, Edgeworth has fallen fatally ill, and is close to dying. He had asked that his pupil, 27-year-old Prosecutor Chess Checker, see him one last time.

Chess must now meet with his old mentor in his dying moments, which pains the young pegasus to see. But in his visit, he is brought into an interesting conversation with Prosecutor Edgeworth...
