Apocalypse is near. As a matter of fact its already here. And its everywhere - on the ground ponies walk, in the food they eat and mainly - in the magic some of them use. And it has to do with space and time.
Which is not something Atom Brainstorm, a young unicorn scientist and his cousin Allegory Ancientm, a historian, approve.
As a matter of fact Atom is quite angry at it - it's hard enough to try and stay away from others, try to study, try to adapt to the new village, what was it… Ponyville! Yes. Trying to adapt to the new village, to take care of his cousin and now - apocalypse.

And he has this incredible pain in the back…
Also he just cant seem to understand how a wooden ship can fly through the space void, how they got so far away from their homeplanet. And no matter how hard he tries he cant understand how was a machine filled with mirrors built in outer space and how they managed to calibrate it so it hits exactly one of the suns, how time and space are being torn apart. Actually - how the hell did a wooden ship get in space anyway…
Must have been magic…

He just knows that even though he doest enjoy it, he will have to fly with those mares, his cousin and that weird guy with all the weaponary - Scratched Beats, who isnt a DJ.
And he will have to do some time travelling.

And he could swear a phone booth flew past him a few times…
