Captain Jean-Luc Picard had just received a message about the Federation's most lethal enemy, The Borg, beginning an invasion of Federation space. He had already informed his crew that their orders were to pursue the Romulan Neutral Zone. Picard had previously been captured and assimilated by the Borg. The Federation was afraid that an unstable element would be introduced to a critical situation if he were to join the battle. On the bridge, he had Federation frequency 1486 on audio. He made a drastic decision to join.
"I'm about to commit a direct violation of our orders. Any of you who wish to object should do so now. It will be noted in my log.", he said to his crew.
Data spoke up.
"Captain, I believe I speak for everyone here sir when I say . . . "To hell with our orders.""
Picard ordered a "Red Alert" and had a course set for Earth. When they arrived, they saw that a Borg Cube was on a direct course toward Earth. The Admiral's ship had been destroyed, so Picard took a temporary command of the fleet. He had all of the ships fire at a specific spot on the cube, which led to it being destroyed. However, The cube released a smaller ship, known as a Borg Sphere to continue its attack. Picard had Lieutenant Hawk pursue the sphere.
As the Enterprise pursued the Borg Sphere, Data noticed the beginnings of a temporal vortex. This meant that the Borg were trying to assimilate a past version of Earth. Picard ordered the firing of a new weapon to destroy the vortex before the sphere could enter. The missile was fired, but it was untested and malfunctioned. The malfunction turned the vortex into a portal to an different part of the universe. Both ships tried to evade the wormhole, but they were sucked in. They were left spinning out of control when they were ejected from the portal. As the Enterprise crew regained control, Picard saw a planet with a moon.
"What is our position, Mr. Data?", Picard asked.
"Unknown, Captain.", Data replied after quickly raising the shields.
A cloaked ship nearby radioed the planet.
"Harmony to Canterlot. Do you read me?"
"This is Twilight, go ahead."
"Aunt Twilight, this is Flurry Heart. Two ships have just popped out of a wormhole up here. One has its shields up and is constructed similar to the Harmony."
On board the Enterprise, Picard ordered a containment field to be released around the Borg Sphere. Suddenly, Data had a report as the cloaked ship became visible.
"Captain, we're being hailed."
"On screen, broadcast shipwide for records.", Picard responded.
"This is Captain Flurry Heart of the E.S.S. Harmony. Please state your identity and why you are here!", screeched an angry white pony with wings and a horn.
"I an Jean-Luc Picard, Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-E. My crew was trying to prevent our most lethal enemy from travelling back in time and invading my home planet. When we tried to stop them, our equipment malfunctioned and we ended up here completely by accident.", Picard answered.
Flurry Heart acknowledged the report and asked how she could help.
"Arm your weapons and fire at the sphere. Do not allow the Borg to access your ship. If that happens, they will begin scanning your DNA and finding ways to beat you."
"Understood, we will give them everything we have. Also, we have a secret feature that allows us to choose which ships can see us. So the other ship cannot see us, but you can."
When the transmission ended, Flurry took her seat and began commanding the crew members on the bridge.
"Red Alert, shields up."
The shields on the Harmony began going up and the weapons were armed in a flash.
"OPEN FIRE!!", Flurry cried.
Lasers and torpedoes began flying from both the Enterprise and the Harmony.
The Borg Queen tried to block the shots, but the Harmony's armaments were far too powerful for her soldiers to adapt to. The Queen escaped as the sphere's defenses were breached and the hull began to collapse. The sphere was destroyed, but the Borg Queen had managed to reach Eqqus. Twilight's satellite sensors had picked up the Queen's mechanical readings and tracked them to a wooded area.
"CODE RED! An unidentified being has breached our planetary shield. All troops go to full defense at Latitude 30 degrees North, Longitude 55 degrees west. That's the center of the Everfree Forest. Whatever this thing is, do not let it cause a global disaster."
Flurry could not believe her ears.
"IMPOSSIBLE!", she shrieked. "Our shield is designed to only allow native citizens pass through."
"I can't explain how the Queen managed to breach your shield, but we can help you take her down.", Picard radioed to Twilight.
Twilight gave the all-clear and allowed an away team from the Enterprise to beam down along with an away team from the Harmony.
Confronting and destroying the Borg Queen
When both teams arrived where the Borg Queen had landed, she instantly recognized Picard.
"Hello again, Locutus."
Everyone from the Harmony looked at Picard and he explained what was going on.
"I was assimilated once, and they gained the knowledge necessary to beat the Enterprise-D. I do not wish to rejoin the Borg."
Twilight quickly arrived and cast a shield around the Borg Queen. Only laser blasts and alicorn magic could penetrate and harm the Queen. The Queen did not seem to be reacting, but Picard suspected something was up. A call on his communicator confirmed his suspicions.
"Captain, this is Lieutenant Hawk. Sensors show a Borg Cube on approach. Shields are holding and we are ready to fire."
"Mr. Picard, is there any way to stop this alien species from invading our planet?", Twilight asked frantically.
"The Borg operate as a single mind. The Queen is their superior point of command. If she is destroyed, then all of them will be destroyed as well."
At once, everyone that was restraining the Queen, along with the crews began hearing a mass transmission from the Borg Cube.
"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
"Do not listen to them.", Picard and Twilight simultaneously radioed to both the Enterprise and the Harmony.
The Borg Cube arrived in orbit as Picard radioed his crew.
"Hone in on my location and beam down a receptacle filled with coolant."
"What good will that do?", asked Twilight out of confusion.
Picard wrote the explanation on a data-pad and handed it to Twilight. The coolant had a corrosive chemical that would eat away the skin and destroy the Queen.
The canister was beamed down in a flash. With it was a remote to release the coolant. Picard threw the canister into the field that restrained the Queen. As soon as the button was pressed, the coolant began filling the shielded area and the Borg Queen began groaning in agony as the coolant ate away her skin and her circuitry began shorting out. Up in space, the Borg soldiers on the Cube began shorting out as their leader died slowly and painfully.
Moments later, the Borg Cube self-destructed from instability in it's circuitry. Everyone was jubilant that the Cube was destroyed. Twilight dropped her shield and Picard picked up what was left of the Borg Queen. All that was left was her metal skull and vertebrae. The power lights were still flashing, so Picard broke the assembly in two pieces to make sure the Queen couldn't be revived. After having the pieces melted down to make ingots for future use, Data radioed Picard with a report.
"Captain, sensors show multiple Starfleet vessels arriving.
