Chase's new friend
A new friendship
Load Full StoryMaretime Bay 3:00pm
It was a beautiful day in the city of Maretime Bay home to the earth ponies. The earth ponies, pegasus, and unicorns were all seen having a chat with each other, working, and many more after the reunification years ago thanks to the heroic efforts of Sunny Starscout and her friends. Things seemed tranquil and wonderful for the ponies of the land.
On a dirt walkway located far from town, a young seven years old colt named Chase Trailblazer son to Sunny and Hitch Trailblazer was seen walking back home after another successful term at school, he passed all of his exams once again and made his parents proud once again after all, he is eager to become the future sheriff of Maretime Bay with his friend Bright, son to Sprout and Izzy Cloverleaf.
Once the little colt got to the front door of his house, he said "Mommy, daddy I'm home!"
Then, Chase pushed the door opened and saw his parents standing in front of him.
"Hello Chasey-boo, how're you doing?" Sunny asked with a smile as she walked up to him and kissed him in the cheeks.
"I'm good mommy, thanks."
"Hello champ, good to see you back." Hitch greeted with a smile. Chase was going to ask him something but, before that, his father spoke first. "In case if you're asking, yes, me and your mother bought you what you wanted." He told him, and Chase's eyes widened in excitement.
In the lighthouse of the Trailblazer family, Hitch, Sunny, and Chase were seen sitting on the family table as their son Chase was seen requesting something from them.
"Please Mommy and Daddy, can I have a pet dog please?" Chase begged with his hooves together.
"Oh honey, we'd love to but, becoming an owner of a dog is a huge responsibility." Sunny cooed as she gently Chase's head.
"Yeah, but we can get you a goldfish though." Hitch suggested the alternative with a smile.
"I don't want a goldfish! They're boring!" Chase exclaimed "Can I please have a dog instead? I can have it as a partner when I grow up and become the future sheriff. I promise to take care of it by myself, so, please?" He begged with cute eyes.
When Hitch and Sunny heard the request, they both turned around and faced away from their son Chase which made him perplexed. Then, Hitch and Sunny began to mumble to each other.
"Should we really buy him a dog Sunny?" Hitch asked. "I don't want it to like you know, make a mess everywhere." He told her with an anxious expression.
"Me too but, our son has made us proud recently in his exams and helping out other ponies including us during chores and other stuffs when he has free time. He even volunteered to take care of little foals along with Bright." Sunny told him, and Hitch nodded from his wife's veracious statement. "Since he said that he can take care of it himself, let's give him the dog." She said.
Hitch began to ponder about this for a brief second, having a dog would be burdensome due to it having the ability to make a mess everywhere. But, his wife Sunny was correct when she said that their son is strong and can handle many situations on his own, sometimes with the help of Bright. A brief second later, the sheriff let out a sigh before nodding to Sunny. After that, the two of them turned around and faced Chase again.
"Okay, we'll get you a dog." Hitch said with a nod.
"YAY!" Chase exclaimed enthusiastically. "Thank you mommy and dad-"
Chase was cut off in his sentence and hug attempt when his father gently placed his right hoof on his muzzle so that he can speak.
"Just to clarify, once we buy you the dog, it'll be your responsibility, not ours. So, you have to take it out on walks, clean it, put it to bed, and many other things by yourself. Understood?" Hitch asked sternly.
"Yes father, I can do that!"
"That's my colt." Hitch chuckled as he stroked his son's head.
After that, the family hugged each other again.
Present
"Daddy, mommy, did you two buy me the dog?" Chase asked with an enthusiastic smile.
"Yes, it is here, and it is a puppy." Hitch replied with a nod which made Chase even more excited. "But, I must warn you though, there is a problem with this dog." He warned him.
"It's okay, I've got problems too when I can't find the appropriate book to read for foals in the daycare like Bright." He said.
"Okay then."
Then, Chase heard some barking noises coming from upstairs in his bedroom. The young colt looked up and heard some running noises coming from upstairs in his bedroom. The sounds made the little colt even more exhilarated.
"It's my, it's my dog!" Chase yelled enthusiastically as he threw his backpack on the couch and ran upstairs. Suddenly, the young colt lost his footing and slid down the stairs and landed face first to the floor which his parents cringe. "Grr." The young colt growled as he ran upstairs again to his bedroom.
Once the young colt got to his bedroom, he began to look around for his partner but then, he was immediately met with a puppy running towards him which made him move his hooves around. A brief second later, the dog ran down the stairs, and Chase tumbled down the stairs due to him having to lost his footing once more.
"Ah! Ooof, oooh, ow!" Chase grunted as he fell on the floor once again. The young colt then groaned and placed both his hooves on the floor before looking to his left to see a puppy standing next his father it seemed to be laughing at him too.
"Say hello to Ryder Chase." Hitch said.
"Aww, it's so cute. Looks like it's the best one." Chase said as he crawled to the puppy.
"Oh really?" Hitch asked with a perplexed expression as his son Chase picked up the dog in his hooves and stood back up.
"Hello Ryder, my name is Chase Trailblazer, we're going to be best friends." Chase said happily as he spun himself and the dog around two times.
However, Ryder was not feeling as happy as Chase was, the dog then began to growl angrily towards the little colt which made him bewildered. Then, it attempted to bite at him.
"H-hey! What are you doing?" Chase asked as he began to move around to prevent being bitten.
"This is the problem that I was telling you son." Hitch said "This dog has an angry behaviour and hasn't adapted to being around ponies yet according to the pet store owner. So, if you randomly touch it like that, it'll get into an angry state and lash out at you." He informed.
"Whoa!" Chase yelped as he feel on his back on the floor. Then, Ryder jumped off of Chase. After that, the little colt jumped back up on his feet. "Hey, nothing can stop me!" He exclaimed with a determined expression.
"Alright." Hitch said with a shrug. "If this is what you wish for then this is Ryder's leash." He said as he gave him a black leash.
"Awesome! Thanks dad!" Chase said as he embraced his father in a hug.
"So Chase, are you going to bring Ryder out for a walk?" Sunny asked.
"Sure mommy." Chase replied with a nod. "After all, it is a bright sunny day outside." He said. Then, he looked down at Ryder.
"Let's go out for a walk Ryder."
But, the puppy turned his head away from him as if he did not cared at all.
"Come on, at least let me put this leash on you." Chase said as he attempted to clip the leash against his collar but suddenly, Ryder whacked the leash with his tail and it ended up hitting Chase in the head.
"Augh!" Chase grunted.
"Aww how cute, you two are playing catch together." Sunny said with a warm expression.
"Oh right, this dog hates being tied up in it's leash." Hitch added with a chuckle which made Chase grumble in annoyance.
Maretime Bay
In the streets of Maretime Bay, Chase was seen taking Ryder out for a stroll so that he could get some exercise in him. However, Ryder refused to budge therefore, Chase needed to wrap a rope around his body and force him to walk while he tried to stay in pace. His action attracted many attentions from the citizens. A brief second later, Chase let out a sigh and looked down at Ryder.
"Ryder, are you intending to behave like this forever?" Chase asked, and Ryder turned away from him.
"Is it because you don't like me?" Chase asked, and Ryder nodded. "But, I like you a lot." He told him with a smile. But, Ryder looked away from him again.
"No matter how tough it is, I want to be your friend so, I'll get rid of this." Chase said as he freed Ryder from the rope. Once that was finished, the young colt coiled the rope before putting it in his belt compartment. "Now, let's be friends." Chase said offering a hoof out to Ryder to shake, but, the puppy looked away from him again.
"How stubborn." Chase said. Then, the young colt heard the sound of a metal hitting the floor.
"Huh?" Chase asked in a perplexed tone as he turned around to see a mare littering a can of soda to the floor. "Hey, littering is illegal ma'am!" He exclaimed but, the mare walked away which made Chase roll his eyes in annoyance.
"Guess, it's up to me again. Wait right here Ryder." Chase ordered as he walked up to the empty soda can. Once he got to it, he bent down, picked it up and stood back up again. "My dad should really enforce the law, this littering incident is getting aggravating to me and Bright sometimes." He said with an irked expression. After that, the young colt looked to his left where a trash bin was. He then drew his right hoof back and threw it at the bin. A brief second later, the can landed into the trash can.
"Awesome!" Chase said in a victorious tone. But however, the colt heard a sound in there. "Huh?" Chase asked in a perplexed tone. A brief second later, a crow appeared out of the trash bin with a red mark on his head probably from the can.
"A crow? Ahh!" Chase exclaimed as he landed on his butt on the floor. The sight made Ryder laugh.
The crow looked to the source of the laugh and saw a puppy laughing at something. He must assume that it was the one who threw the soda can at him. Then, the crow got angry and he began to let out loud caws which made the pony residents shelter in their houses.
"What is it doing?" Chase asked in a confused tone.
Then, the young colt got his answer as tens of crows appeared out of nowhere and began to fly towards his and Ryder's location which made Chase and Ryder's eyes widen in fear.
"Ryder, run for it!" Chase exclaimed as he stood up. Then, he and Ryder turned around and ran away, and the crows flew in pursuit of the culprit that attacked one of their own.
Chase and Ryder were seen running as quickly as they could to get back home to safety. But unfortunately, the crows got to them first and began to attack however, Chase was not attacked which got him perplexed. He looked down and saw his friend Ryder being beaten by the crow.
"Hey knock it off! I'm the one who threw the soda can, all of you should be targeting me!" Chase exclaimed as he began to push the crows out of his way. A brief second later, Chase bent down and picked up Ryder in his hooves. After that, he began to run again with Ryder in his hooves. "Ryder, are you okay?" He asked, and the poor injured puppy could only breathe.
Chase looked forward to see that he was running towards the sea which made his eyes widen but, he had no other choice, the crows were chasing him from behind, some were pecking on him too. Once Chase got to the sea, he jumped over the railing and splashed into the ocean with Ryder still in his hooves.
On the far side of Maretime Bay, the young Chase Trailblazer and his dog Ryder have both returned to land after Chase swam them back to land, it began to storm too. The young colt coughed a little before looking down at an injured Ryder in his hooves.
"Ryder, are you okay?" Chase asked in a worried tone, and Ryder began to breathe. Then, the sound of caws returned.
Chase turned around to see the crows returning and flying towards him and Ryder.
"Oh crap!" Chase exclaimed as he began to run away again with Ryder still in his hooves.
Chase was seen running back to his home as quickly as he could where he could get Ryder to safety. But, the crows got to him first and began to peck on him which caused him to grunt and shield Ryder with his body. However, Chase was not looking at where he was running and he fell off a ledge and fell on his back on the dirt causing him to drop Ryder in the process.
"Ryder." Chase said in a worried tone as he crawled up to his wounded friend. Once he got to him, he began to scrutinize him and saw that he was seriously wounded which made him anxious and depressed. "How can this happen?" He asked with a sad expression.
Chase looked behind him to see that the crows were circling above him and Ryder which made him concerned. Then, Chase looked back at Ryder with a stern expression before putting a can of soda and a wrap of candies in front of him.
"Ryder stay behind me." Chase ordered sternly. "I know you don't like to listen to me but, if you stay behind me right now, the crows will attack me and you'll be safe. Leave everything to me and hide if you have to." He told him. Then, Chase turned around and looked at the crows.
"Hey! Who do you all think I am?! I am Chase Trailblazer of Maretime Bay, I'm bound to become the world's greatest sheriff. I will protect ponies lives with all of my power even if that means risking my own life! I will not be intimidated by a bunch of birds like you all!" Chase exclaimed in a brave tone. He then turned around and looked at Ryder once more. "Ryder prepare to hide!" He ordered. Then, he looked back at the crows again. "Bring it on you crows!" He exclaimed.
The crows all took Chase's insult and demand and swooped towards him. While Chase was standing on his ground, Ryder tore off the lid of the soda with his jaws and put a piece of candy in it. After that, the little puppy rushed towards Ryder with the soda can in his mouth. He then climbed on Chase's shoulder and jumped towards the crows and threw the soda can at them all. When that happened, the soda can exploded because of the candy that was put in it, and the crows were all scared off. Then, the sun returned.
Chase was seen lying on the ground on his side due to the explosion of the soda can that knocked him over. He then let out a moan before opening his eyes to see Ryder looking at him with a smile.
"Ryder? Are you okay?" Chase asked. Then, Ryder replied by licking his cheek which made the young colt touched. "Thank you Ryder." He cooed, then, both Chase and Ryder nuzzled each other affectionately, both of them have finally became good friends after a rough start.
"Whaddya say we return home Ryder?" Chase asked as he slowly stood up.
Ryder nodded in response as well as letting out a happy sound.
After that, both the pony and the dog stood up from the ground and began to walk back home. This was the start of a new friendship between the two.
