Speaking the Right Language
Applejack is fine with words, really. She says what she needs to say in the simplest, most straightforward way she can, and it's hardly like she's as monosyllabic as her big brother. Sure, sometimes she throws in some figures of speech that seem to throw off her more urbanite friends, but that's just the way she was raised. When it comes to saying what she means, she's perfectly capable of doing it. If someone else doesn't understand, they can always ask her to clarify.
That usually works, but not this time. She can't afford to make do when it comes to the more important things in life, and this is one of those times. Right now, she needs to be more expressive, to really show what she means so that there's nothing understated, nothing left out, nothing misunderstood. Her concision isn't doing her much good on that front, and without her usual fallback of bluntness and straightforward honesty, she's completely out of her depth. How can she convey something she can't properly express?
She's no quitter; whatever it takes, she'll find a way to express herself. If it can't be through words, then it'll have to be through action. She's never given up, and she doesn't intend to start now.
