Candyland Conquest

Sombra and the others are currently on the path to Candy Castle. They have orders… . Orders that’ll potentially lead to victory, or defeat. Regardless, they have something to do. And that’s to defeat the Sour King, rescue Cozy Glow, and liberate all of Candyland from the Sour Soldiers. Things were going great for our heroes. Until… .

“Halt!” a female Sour Guard ordered. “Identify yourselves! Who are you with?” King Sombra approached the guard while also keeping his distance, and responded; “I am but a warrior, sent on a mission! And that mission is to liberate this fine land, and ensure that all of candy kind are united once more on this glorious day… .” The guard just facepalmed; probably having heard that speech from somewhere, but can’t remember the exact details, and then asked; “no, seriously. What’re you really doing here? Cuz you don’t look like that you’re from here. And you folks are certainly not heroes as much… . So what’re you guys really doing here?”

King Sombra sighs; cutting the theatrics short, and then states; “we’re just trying to stop this war and free our friend. That’s it. Why you ask?” The female guard chuckled, and then says; “because I’m on a mission too! To find you guys and bring you to the Sour King’s castle.” King Sombra looked hesitant, then asks; “and why is that? Are we being captured?” The female guard responded; “not exactly… “ and approached the group while continuing; “I’m actually here to bring you to your friend. She’s just in that cave over there, that’s lined with rock candy, and such.” Sombra nodded, but then says; “okay… “ before looking confused, and saying; “but wait! Who are you? And who sent you?” The guard sighs, chuckles a bit, then says; “my name’s Sour Drops actually. I’m Sour Berry’s brother.”

Flurry Heart approached the guard while also keeping her distance, and then asked Sour; “wait, so you’re his brother? How come he didn’t tell us that?” Sour Drops sighed, and then says; “my brother always does that. He’s never been nice to me for so long, and I’ve just kinda gotten sick of it. That’s all. Why’d you ask that?” Sombra replied; “because she’s curious… “ and crosses his arms. He then continued by asking; “so… , since you and your brother have some history with each other… , do you need some advice?” Drops chuckles, and then she says; “nah, it’s good, I can handle it. Besides; we’re the Sours. We’re known to be rude to each other, but it’s all in good fun, right?” Sombra then replied; “I guess… “ and walked away a bit. “I just don’t think it’s healthy… , that’s all.” “Pshh, it’s all alright.” Sour Drops said before gesturing with her free hand that isn’t wielding her spear. “Now come along now, you’re friend’s waiting for us!”

Sombra approached a little closer to the guard and asked; “what’s the hurry? Is it a trap?” Sour Drops turned back with a raised eyebrow and states; “if I were to have led you into a trap, then I wouldn’t be so nice to you and have told you all of that personal stuff about me now would I?” Sombra sighs, and then says; “I guess… “ before looking down in hesitation and saying; “but I don’t trust you though… .” Sour Drops gestured and replies; “pshh, it’s fine… . Besides, what’s the worst that can happen?” As if on cue, a wild gummy bear jumped in front of the group, and roared a vicious roar. With that in mind, Sour Drops says; “run… “ and ran away. The others followed suit, and were given chase.

The group entered the cave just in time, and saw that the wild gummy bear has lost their tracks before it ran in the opposite direction. With that, the group then paused to catch their breaths, and regained their bearings; (pun not intended). Afterwards, Sombra turned to Sour Drops, and asks, “so where’s Cozy Glow?” After he asked that, Cozy Glow approached from the darkness, and then says; “right here!” This caused Sombra to yelp in surprise; along with the others; (aside from Sour Drops, who wasn’t scared), and then he asked; “geez, you scared me… . Don’t do that next time!” Cozy Glow giggled, then replied; “my bad,” before giggling some more.

After Sombra and the others calmed down again, he then asked; “so, how’d you wind up here? I thought you were captured or something… ?” Cozy Glow blushed, then replied; “well… , I was… . But then I used my manipulation skills to get Sour Drops to free me! I hope you’re not mad… .” Sour Drops replied with; “eh, I’m sure that we’ll forgive you; given time. But before we could get to the forgiving part, how’re you guys supposed to defeat my father?”

Sombra blinked in surprise, then asked; “you knew?” Sour chuckled, and then replied; “meh, to be honest, I’m a spy. Well… , not really a spy… , but a good hider, you see?” Sombra nodded, then said; “nice job… “ and gave a thumbs up. After that, he asked; “but wait… . How’re you so nice? Usually the sour candies aren’t so nice… .” Sour Drops sighs, and then says; “look pal, we’re not so bad once you gets to know us. And besides, you’ve said it yourself: you’re gonna liberate us and get us all sweets and sours unified! Right?” Sombra rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, and then says; “well… . Not my exact words… , but yeah.” Cozy smiled, then asked; “but wait. What do we do now?” Sour Drops sighs, knelt down to the cave floor, then replied; “I don’t know honestly… . I was hoping that you folks could help me, right?”

Sombra was thinking for a minute, and then says; “maybe… . But I don’t know… . I mean… . I don’t know exactly how we’re gonna make it to the castle without getting spotted. I just can’t figure it out… .” Sour Drops blushes, and then replied; “well… . There is one way… . But I don’t think that you’ll like it.” Sombra sighs, and then says; “is there another way that we could infiltrate the castle without us being in chains?” Sour Drops nodded, sighs also, and then says; “we could try the secret entrance. But I don’t know if that’ll work.” Cozy then asked; “why?” To which point, Sour responded; “because the entrance hasn’t been used in decades… ! And besides! We really can’t get past there without encountering patrols or checkpoints… . Understand?” Sombra nodded, but said; “hey, I’m sure it could work, right? I mean… , what’s the worst that can happen?”

As if on cue, there’s a massive roar behind them coming from the cave entrance. Knowing what it is, Sombra says to himself; “I really gotta keep my mouth shut… “ before hearing another roar once more.
