Chapter 4: First Day of School

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Ocean Breeze trotted along the hallways looking for her classroom, she bumped into the hall monitor who looked at her incredulously, "Hall pass miss?"

"No ma'am, not yet I'll get one soon."

"Kid, mom was talking about you this morning. I'm Morning Blaze and we're in all the same classes so just hang with me and you'll be fine." As they walked along, a few colts jeered others made a few minor cat calls. The other fillies walked up and voiced their thoughts.

"Where the hell did you come from? Shouldn't be home cleaning or something? We mean that stud in your ear says you belong to a household." Half the laughed and vocalized similar sentiment, the other half were cordial and tried to remedy the situation.

"Girls she belongs to the house of Lord Chancellor Spearpoint! If he hears we mistreated someone of his household.....our fathers could potentially loose their council spots or any other jobs! That isn't touching what Morning Blaze's father can do since our parents make mortgage payments to him!" The one making the argument was named Leverage. She was adorable and a little taller than Ocean Breeze but shorter than Morning Blaze. The leader of antagonists was named Heartbreaker (she was so named by her mother because the day she got her cutie mark she had broken her parents hearts).

Once in the classroom, Ocean Breeze sat at an empty desk when a colt twice her size stormed up. "Hey that's my desk!"

"Sorry......um I didn't know..." her voice trailed off as she never got his name. "I'm Ocean Breeze and you are?"

"Double-Tap now move it!"

"I was here first, you can't just shove ponies around."

In two hits Ocean Breeze was on the floor clutching her nose and glaring up at her attacker. Double-Tap was on top if her in an instant dealing more blows. Ocean Breeze tried to fight back but couldn't make any headway. A blur and a familiar voice was heard, "Double-Tap....the coward who picks fights with fillies half his damned size." Through her watering eyes Ocean Breeze saw Heartbreakers, the unicorn was smirking now at Double-Tap who was still furious. "If I were you....I'd walk away right now."

"You're no better! You just this morning told her that she should be cleaning up at her master's home."

"That fact was due to the stud in her ear, but I didn't lift a hoof to try to mash her in a puddle of sea foam!" Ocean Breeze cringed at that mental image and just then the teacher showed up.

Their teacher a young mare named Snowflake was a light blue with a white mane. The latter after getting some Intel sent Double-Tap to the principal while she looked Ocean Breeze over. Morning Blaze and Leverage flanked Ocean Breeze by having her sit between them. Heartbreaker sat behind Ocean Breeze, and during class, which was history for the first session Ocean Breeze didn't understand hardly any of it. The rest of her day at school was dull but at least Ocean Breeze had friends. She was curious about Heartbreaker who was like an enigma to her, the filly would seem to hate her then the next moment defend her.

Meanwhile

"I do hope Ocean's doing okay? I know Morning Blaze is with her Cactus Rose but I am fearful."

"Lavender Dream, that filly is doing fine I'm sure of it...unless something happened and she told them not to call you. Besides, Morning Blaze has the middle class filly named Leverage who loves anything involving your homeland."

"Maybe I'm worrying too much, I'm sure Blueblood would say the same or even his sister Fleur-de-Lis or the associate Dessert Storm. I hear that Sassy and Fancy Pants went rogue and Knuckles and Sparks are still hunting them. My vitals are back to their norm.....save for this dammed concussion."

Ocean Breeze

Ocean Breeze sat alone eating her lunch when Morning Blaze and Leverage made an appearance and joined her. Across the cafeteria they saw Heartbreaker, alone and dejected. Ocean Breeze walked over to invite her to join her and her friends.

"Hey, um, Heartbreaker wanna join me and my friends?"

"I'd rather not.....its not you....it's me Breeze I'm in middle-class family with a step brother who hates me, my older stepbrother is at the University and I'm illegitimate and I cannot seem to let my step father get close and I push my birth-mother away. I don't think I'm worth the trouble."

"Sure you are, you stood up and defended me against Double-Tap earlier and that has proven you have more heart and courage than others let you share. Well anyways, there's a spot if you change your mind."

A few moments passed when Heartbreaker showed up, "Is the invitation still open?" Ocean Breeze nodded as she tried to keep milk come spewing from her nose from laughing at a joke Morning Blaze had just told. Ocean Breeze explained what had cracked her up as Heartbreaker just bit in a few chips and began to choke on them from the freshly explained and retold joke.

End of Day

Ocean Breeze trudged up the circular staircase to put her books away and saw her mother and Blueblood discussing the Spring Dance and she overheard them in some detail before they turned to her. "Blueblood you should find a date, there are plenty of mares to be had."

"I don't want just any mare besides it's too soon."

"What if you took my mother just this once?" Two pairs of eyes turned toward Ocean Breeze, "I mean that necklace that you bought for you ex girlfriend is a complimentary color for my mother's color tone."

"I'll figure it out, so Half-Pint how was your day at school?"

"Well, Blueblood sir, I got slugged in class, insulted in the hallway but besides that I'm making friends and got a history exam this Friday."

"Why wasn't I called?"

"Well mother I told them or more liked begged them not to call you."

"They can always call me, your my daughter and don't feel like you have to deal with bullies on your own." Ocean Breeze nodded and dinner was then called; with a week and a half he contemplated asking Lavender to be his fate already, she was loyal, honest, kind, and she cared enough to let him know that Sassy was not who she claimed to be.
