The wind roared outside as dozens of little snowflakes flew throughout the air.
The Pegasi had organized a giant snowstorm for the night and everypony was inside their homes, not wanting to be caught in the storm.
Among these ponies was Twilight Sparkle. Though the harsh winds blew against her tree home, Twilight had faith in the weather ponies. Besides, Twilight enjoyed storms, perfect time for reading. She walked up the stone chimney and her horn lit up with a pink glow, with her horn pointed directly at the sticks in the fireplace beads of sweat began dripping down her face. Suddenly, a fire lit up amidst the sticks. Twilight smiled to herself, most unicorns couldn’t dream of casting a fire spell and yet, Twilight could pull it off with minimal effort. Twilight walked off, rather pleased with herself, to the bookshelf. She levitated “The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Pone from the bookshelf. Twilight had always wanted to read it, but she had never found the time. More important books, adventures, Spike. Twilight walked off into the kitchen and pulled a box of tiny plastic cups containing a mixture that when combined with hot water would create hot chocolate. Twilight levitated one of the cups out of the cardboard bin and placed it into her coffee maker. The machine began grumbling before stopping and letting out a quick pour of hot chocolate into a pink cup. Once the cup was full, Twilight levitated it, and her book up. She walked back to the fireplace and sat down in a comfy chair. She opened her book and sipped her hot chocolate. Though loud, the storm was rather peaceful, Twilight found you could make anything rather relaxing and peaceful if you took the right angle.
The beast was just outside his window, the storm of the century. Spike cowered underneath his covers, he’d rather not admit it, but the storm terrified him. He rose out of the covers, he had to get to sleep somehow, sometime. Tomorrow was a big day for Spike, busy day, lots of things planned, he needed plenty of rest. As soon as he rose he ducked back down, most kids were afraid of thunder storms not snow storms. ‘How pathetic was he?’ He thought. There was one pony who wouldn’t judge him thought. Someone who was always by his side, someone who he always considered a mother figure. After all that’s what you do when you’re a scared little kid, call for mom.
Just as the story was getting interesting Twilight heard a high pitched whine coming from upstairs.
“TWILIGHT!” Spike cried from the stairs “I CAN’T SLEEP! CAN YOU GET ME A GLASS OF WARM MILK?”
“sure thing Spike.” Twilight closed her book with a sigh, put it and the cup of hot chocolate on the coffee table, and reluctantly walked back to the kitchen.
Twilight levitated a cup from the counter.
The cup wasn’t clean and was stained with smoothies from the last meeting with her friends, Twilight poured water from the sink into the cup. She levitated a paper tower from the counter and wiped the cup clean as new.
Twilight opened the fridge, levitating a carton of milk out of the fridge and pouring it into the cup. She then put the milk on the stove and lit it.
“TWILIGHT!” Spike cried from the top of the stairs.
“I’m coming! I’m coming!” Twilight cried
Twilight grabbed the now warm milk off the stove. She walked up the stairs, into Spike’s room.
“thanks” Spike grabbed the cup from Twilight’s hands
“That’s it right?” Twilight made sure “promise”
“Oh” Spike looked up “well”.
“Spike!” Twilight signed
“I’m sorry it’s just” Spike hesitated “the storm kinda scares me.”
Twilight’s face softened “oh Spike, you should’ve just said so.”
Spike sighed in relief “yeah, well now that the cat’s out of the bag, could you maybe lay with me, until I go to sleep.”
“Well Spike, I have this book to read and..” Twilight looked at Spike’s pleading eyes “oh all right, but let me get a pillow first.”
Twilight walked over to a cabinet and levitated open the doors and out a pillow.
“Thanks Twilight.” Spike snuggled in his blanket “I always kind of thought of you as, sort of a mo-“
As Spike spoke Twilight slowly levitated the pillow down onto his face. Twilight held it firm although her face remained the same.
Spike squirmed, something must have gone wrong right? Right? He tried to alert Twilight something was wrong, or remove the pillow, but Twilight’s grasp, however effortless, was firm. Spike’s chest began to sting, he needed to breathe. His mind was racing but only one thought could get out, he needed to breathe, he needed to breathe, he needed to breathe. The pain in his cheeks, in his chest, it was all his body screaming at him that he needed to breathe. He needed to breath. he needed to.
Twilight was unfazed and held it firmly, the struggling slowed down, everything was still for just a moment. After a few seconds Twilight stopped levitating the pillow and began feeling around for a pulse.
There wasn’t one. Spike was dead.
Twilight put the pillow down, smiled, and levitated Spike off the bed. As she descended the staircase she noticed the fire was beginning to dim. So she decided to kill two birds with one stone, as she approached the fire she placed Spike’s corpse into the fireplace. The flames set it a blaze as the flesh began to charr. It was quite an unnerving sight, but Twilight didn’t mind. She could find the peace and relaxation in anything, even suffocating her somewhat son, and burning his corpse. After all, the storm still raged on, and she had everything she wanted. She levitated her book and hot chocolate off the coffee table and sat back down. Finally peace and quiet. There was just silence as Twilight continued to read, though less hooked than before. She no longer could see what the big deal was, as she sipped her hot chocolate. And the leaves of the golden oak library blew in the wind.
