Spike the dragon has infamously held the worst keep secret of a crush on rarity throughout his younger life, and through most of his teenage years. But now, returning to Ponyville as a fully grown man, his view on the world has changed dramatically, but not his view of Rarity. The only difference is that he has come to accept that those feelings won't go anywhere, or so he thinks.

Rarity meanwhile, has reached a point in her career where financial and public success are abundant, and yet when it comes to would-be-partners she has found all her past flings either sorely lacking or more drawn to other mares. She is beginning to feel the passing of time more keenly, and wants to find someone who will always look at her the same way, but does not know where such a man might be found.

Two hopeless romantics looking for the same thing, mixed with some well-meaning interference from their closest friends and a healthy dose of reality and what do you end up with?
