For a long time, Canterlot City has been ravaged by a group known as the Remnants of Despair, whose sole purpose is to spread despair throughout the world. But they were not always like this. They had started out as normal high-school students with each having a specific perk that labeled them as Ultimates. They were supposed to be shining examples of hope, but instead, they would become symbols of utter despair.

Prologue: The Children of Despair

When you go outside at night and see the starry night sky, what do you picture when you see the stars. Do you picture a sword, or would you picture a dragon or some other scary monster. Well in my eyes, these things are like creatures in a video game, there just obstacles that you have to overcome.

Oh, where are my manners, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Sunset Shimmer, and let's just say that...I'm in some kind of limbo right now, rewatching the most despairful moment of my life. The exact moment when I had lost all hope, and allowed myself to succumb to despair.

Meanwhile, in the middle of a burning building, a girl with red and yellow hair with an ax in her right hand is seen posing a man and woman she had taken as hostages. Then, a black and white drone was seen hovering over her. The Camera feed then activated on every tv screen and monitor in Canterlot City, revealing Sunset's one red glowing eye, the other eye was concealed in the black-half of a Monokuma mask.

"Hello all you despair-fans, this is Shimmer-Code reporting back to your phones and Tv screens to give you our slay of the day," Sunset said as the camera turned towards the couple.

"Please you don't have to do this, there may still be hope for us all," The wife said.

"You know, if I had an ounce of sanity and rationality left in my now despair-filled body, I would be in full agreement with you," Sunset said to the wife. "Unfortunately, I gave up on that supposed hope a long time ago."

"Please, let us go, we've done nothing wrong," The husband said.

"Oh I know, you've done nothing, natta," Sunset said as her face looked like it was rapidly switching from happiness to sadness and back again. "But it is my sworn duty to give my viewers exactly what they want." Sunset said as tears started going down from her eyes. "So enough chitter-chatter...I'M GOING TO CUT YOU OPEN NOW!"

Sunset then drove the ax into the man's skull repeatedly, then a hatch on the drone opened, revealing a machine-gun barrel, as it fired at the woman.

"This is what we live for my viewers." Sunset said as she put the drones camera up to her face. Order, peace, and especially hope are for stupid losers who think that someone will miraculously save them, but in reality, the jaws of despair will swallow them all whole. This is true and blessed beauty. We are The Remnants of Despair, a group no longer bound by the shackles of sanity and order. We are happy, we are free to do as we please. And there's no fucker in this stinking city who can stand in our way."

"All of this despairful beauty was accomplished by the Despair-Queen herself, Junko Enoshima." Sunset said with a look of delight. "Junko is the mother of despair, and we are her children, and even after her death, Junko's legacy will live on through all of us."

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, LET US ALL GIVE PRAISE AND PROSPERITY TO OUR MOTHER JUNKO!" Sunset said maniacally.

Sunset saw that some of the viewers disliked her stream and were giving her hurtful comments. This however made Sunset's grin grow even bigger as as starting to drool a little.

"They, They disliked my stream, and said such despairful things to me....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Yes that's it, I want to feel it some more, The delicious despair of ridicule and rejection." Sunset said with an aroused look on her face. "Oh, my viewers, you're all the absolute best. This is Sunset Shimmer now signing off and Bye-Bye Despair-Fans." Sunset said as she pulled a pose while sticking her tongue out as the live-stream ended.

As soon as the stream ended, Sunset looked upon the now burned and ravaged city, Sunset in one instance saw a Black and red colored race-car zooming through the streets with no regard to whatever it hit. Then she saw a Girl with short green hair riding on top of a giant venus-fly-trap. The girl commanded the giant plant to eat everyone who had a tiny ounce of hope in their bellies.

The she saw three girls, singing to a group of people in Monokuma masks, the girls singing were off-key a lot. Then she saw two girls, one with pink straight hair and one with a black and white cowgirl hat serving candy apples filled with things like nails, rat-poison, or fire ants. The girls only giggled as the people that ate them started retching or screaming in pain before they finally died.

All Sunset did was stare with glee at all the carnage the remnants had caused and she relished in every single second of it all.

" Ahh, such beautiful despair, it brings a smile on my face," Sunset said.

"Yawn, this despair is so beautiful it's become tiring," Sunset said as she lied down on top of the building she was on while she had her drone wrapped in her arms. "I must be in absolute heaven," Sunset said as she fell into a deep sleep.

You see that girl with the red and gold hair, a deranged grin, and holding a meat cleaver while broadcasting her kills all over the city. That was me. And can you believe that the exact group of people that would bring about the most despairful day in Canterlot Cities history, were once my classmates and I.

The reason I'm telling you this is that I don't want anyone to think that I was pure evil and psychotic from the start. So how about we start in the very beginning, before all of this terror took place. Well, I doesn't start with me, it starts with a group of gifted students in a school made to spread hope, but it was about to become ground zero for the plague of despair.
