Guess who's Coming to Dinner

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

A couple of days have passed since Rainbow's and Soarin's first date, Rainbow wakes up in her bed, completely nude, and walks to the bathroom.

After taking a hot shower, she exits the bathroom and gets dressed. Looking in the mirror on the dresser she notices the receipt hung in the mirror. Rainbow chuckles to herself as she looks at it. "Look at me, saving a receipt. I've become my mother." She says to herself as she goes down the stairs and makes herself some breakfast.

As Rainbow was eating her breakfast she thought about what she'd do today, she didn't have Wonderbolt duty today, so it was practically a free day. Her thoughts were soon interrupted by her phone going off. Looking down at the screen, Rainbow saw that her mother was calling her. Answering the phone, Rainbow heard the voice of her mother asking if Soarin was going to come over. Rainbow promptly answered that she would bring him and talked to her for about thirty minutes before ending the call.

After ending the call with her mother, Rainbow calls Soarin, the phone rang two times before a voice picked up. "Heya Dash, what's up?" Soarin greeted as he picked up the phone.

"Hey, Soarin. I was wondering, would you like to meet at the gym? There's something I want to ask you." Rainbow said, as she puts up her dishes.

"Sure, I'm actually on my way there now, I'll wait there for you." Soarin said before hanging up.

Rainbow then left the house and headed for the gym. When she arrives, she sees Soarin leaning against the wall waiting for her with his gym bag at his feet.

"Hey there, what did ya want to talk about?" Soarin asked as he got up and walked into the gym with Rainbow.

"Mind holding my feet while I do sit-ups?" Rainbow asked as she laid down on her back and arched her legs.

"Sure." Soarin replied as he held down Rainbow's feet as she started sitting up, her midriff was showing as she crunched up and down, making Soarin blush at its beauty.

"So, Soarin, I was wondering." Rainbow started as she sat up, hands behind her head as her eyes met Soarin and then left as she leaned back down.

"Yes, Crash?" Soarin asked, using her nickname, causing her to blush.

"Would you like to have dinner with my folks tonight? You can think of it as our second date." Rainbow asked as she leaned back down.

Soarin blushed bright red as Rainbow sat back up, finishing her sit-up. "Ok, your turn." Rainbow said as Soarin slightly positioned himself on his back and arched his legs.

Rainbow held his feet down as he started his set. "Well?" She asked, awaiting an answer.

"I'd love to, but I wouldn't want to impose." Soarin said as he crunched up and down.

"Ah, you won't be, my mom wanted me to ask you, so it's her invitation as well." Rainbow replied, setting that concern to rest.

"Ok then, I'll be there. Should I dress up nice or what?" Soarin asked as he sat up.

"Not too nice, it'll just be a small casual family dinner." Rainbow replied as she let go of his feet once he finished.

"Ok. I look forward to meeting your folks." Soarin replied as he got up, holding out his hand he helped Rainbow get up and headed out after their light workout.

"Hey, since you got your gym bag, why don't you come over to my place to freshen up." Rainbow suggested.

Soarin blushed at the mere mention of this and started to stammer a bit. "Are you sure?" He asked as he rubbed the back of his head.

"I'm sure, come on." Rainbow said as she flew off, Soarin not far behind.

When they arrive at Rainbow's house, Rainbow shows Soarin to the bathroom so he could freshen up. "You can take your shower first. I need to pick out some clothes." Rainbow says as she starts to shut the door."

"Ok, thank you." Soarin replied as he took off his dirty clothes, he puts his clean clothes on the toilet seat lid and put his dirty clothes in the bag before stepping into the shower.

Soarin spends a total of two minutes in the shower. He dries off and then gets dressed. He dons a sky blue short sleeve shirt and blue jeans, he then puts on his socks and shoes, and exits the bathroom.

He finds his way downstairs, seeing Rainbow sitting on her couch playing a video game "Hmm, that's a good game." Soarin said, causing Rainbow to jump a bit.

"Oh, hey Soarin. Yeah, it's pretty great, well I better get my shower." Rainbow replied, handing Soarin the controller. "Here, you can go on and play." She said as Soarin took the controller and she headed upstairs.

Rainbow spends the same amount of time in the shower as Soarin, scrubbing off the day's sweat, she thinks about how Soarin has brightened up her life. They were great friends, but now she could tell she really cared about him.

After her shower she steps into her room and gets dressed on the bed, having laid out her clothes beforehand, she puts on blue jeans and a black shirt. She then heads downstairs after putting on her shoes and sits by Soarin. "It'll be a while before dinner at my house will be ready, we can leave in ten minutes though." Rainbow said as she put her hand on his shoulder, watching him play.

"Ok, I look forward to it." Soarin replied as he started a side quest in the game.

Once Soarin had finished playing, he and Rainbow left her house and headed to Cloudsdale. Once they arrive at Rainbow parent's house, Soarin gets a bit nervous. "Hey, it's alright." Rainbow reassures him as she gingerly pulls him along.

Upon entering the house, Rainbow gasps in surprise as she sees her paternal grandparents and her uncle there. "Uncle Atlas, what are you doing here?" Rainbow asked as she walked in.

"Can't an Uncle surprise his niece and sister once in a while?" He asked as he ran up and hugged her before giving her a noogie.

Rainbow laughed as she tried to escape his hold. Her uncle let go so she could straighten her hair. "Atlas, I'd like you to meet my boyfriend, Soarin." Rainbow said while motioning Soarin to come meet him.

"Well, Soarin. It's nice to meetcha, son. Put her there." He said while holding out his hand to shake his.

Soarin grabbed her uncle's hand and was immediately met with a strong grip and he tried to match. "That's a fine grip you got there, Rainbow sure has found a keeper, and on her first partner too." Atlas said as he pats Soarin on his back.

"Thank you, sir," Soarin said as Bow Hothoof came in. " So, you must be Soarin, Rainbow told me about you after your date with her a few weeks ago." Bow eyed him up and down.

"Yes sir," Soarin answered, stammering a bit.

"Well, it's finally nice to put a face to the name, welcome to our home." Bow replied, dropping the tough dad act. "Rainbow told us so much about you after yours and hers first date. A stallion that puts family first, I can't think of a better potential partner for my daughter." Bow said as he grabbed Soarin's hand and shook it.

Rainbow blushed as her uncle and dad both said practically the same thing.

Finally, her grandfather came up. "Nice to meet you son, name's Stormy Blitz. I hope you take good care of my little zipper." He says.

"Yes, sir," Soarin replies as he shakes his hand.

"Alright, come on in everypony, dinner's ready." Windy Whistles calls from the kitchen. Everyone gathers at the table and gets a plate of veggie lasagna. A few minutes of silence pass before Soarin speaks up. "I see you're a Cloudsdale Clippers fan, Atlas." Soarin says, pointing out his jersey.

"Oh, yeah I am, best hoofball team in Cloudsdale." He replies as he eats.

They then go into a tangent about hoofball, talking stats, plays, and greatest moments.

After a good hour of eating, her uncle and grandparents decide to leave early. They hug their son and daughter-in-law before heading to the door. They hug Rainbow and Soarin before finally leaving, leaving Rainbow and Soarin with the parents.

Rainbow helps her mother with the dishes as Soarin sits on the couch with Bow.

"Dinner was really good, mom" Rainbow said as she put the clean dishes away.

"Thanks dear, I'm glad you and Soarin liked it." Windy Whistles replied as she dried her hands. "Here, take these, Soarin can bring it back whenever." Windy said as she handed Rainbow a tupperware box of leftovers.

"Thanks." Rainbow said as she hugged her mother.

After an hour of visiting, Rainbow decided it was time to leave. "Well I hate to run, but we should get back home." Rainbow said as she got up.

"Alright dear, just be safe." Her mother said as she hugged her and Soarin goodbye. Bow hugged them before they left the house and watched them take off.

"Hey Soarin, if you want you can leave your gym bag at my place, I'll wash your clothes and bring them to the gym tomorrow." Rainbow said as they flew.

"Are you sure?" Soarin asked as he blushed.

"Of course, I don't mind." Rainbow replied as they stopped midair for a minute.

"Ok, then I'll see you tomorrow at the gym." Soarin replied.

"It's a date." Rainbow said, causing Soarin to blush. Rainbow then kissed Soarin's cheek. "See you later." She said before flying back home.

Soarin stayed there for a few minutes before going his own way, flying back home.
