Picnic
Being old was a strange thing. On the one hoof, there was no shortage of horrors one could witness within the earlier parts of their lifetime that could leave them bitter and broken in heir latter years, but at the same time, nearly a lifetime of experience could also teach someone a number of important lessons that would allow them to find peace.
Hatter had never really found peace. All life had gifted him in his later years was a large amount of back ache and flashbacks to nightmares that he had already lived through once. He wasn’t even that old, only fifty five, but those fifty five years had been long ones, and they had taken a heavy toll upon his body.
Thankfully, there was always a place where he could escape his troubles. Nature didn’t seem to care about the woes of the world, and the creatures within were more focused on finding food and shelter for the day then any of the politics going on. He liked to get away into the forest and just get away from all the terrible things he had witnessed and done.
Birds, trees, it was all good. But by far the best part of the forest and the reason he liked to visit so much was the park ranger. She was a mare unlike any he had had ever seen before, it was as if she was made from the forest itself. Her fur was a light green, and almost looked like moss.
