After a silent and rather awkward breakfast, Blazer proposed that the family gather for a self portrait. However, Spike a a troubling thought occur to him. He hadn't even seen Blazer's new wife/his own new stepmother. In fact, he hadn't even seen a picture of her. Surely, if he was marrying this woman, he'd at least have a few pictures of her.

"Sorry, Spike, but she's on an extended business trip and she's not even in the country. But we can take a family photo to give her something to look forward to when she finally returns.", the older Drake informed his son.

Spike accepted that answer and went to get dressed for the day. He put on his favorite summer ensemble: a dark purple T-shirt, khaki shorts, and black sandals. He decided to dress casually for the family photo. He walked out of his room to see Rarity and Sweetie Belle waiting in the hallway for him. Both his new sisters looked beautiful.

Rarity was wearing a red T-shirt, black shorts that reached her mid-thigh, and blue flip-flops. The T-shirt seemed to be fitting a little too close for comfort, for Spike's eyes were instinctively drawn to the girl's ample bust. Spike could tell that they were G-cup. Rarity obviously had the kind of bust that would drive most males, and even some females, mad with lust. Seriously, how does her back not hurt from having to live and walk with them? And the way that her shorts only revealed half of her thighs would lead to most looking at her to put their imaginations to use as they could tell that Rarity had very ample legs and a rather nice butt.

Sweetie Belle had a rather alluring outfit, herself. Sweetie wore a a cream-colored T-shirt, a short yellow skirt, black stockings, and black flip-flops. Now that Spike got a better look at her without her previous lewdness, he could tell that she would be seen by almost everyone as a beauty. And she was still growing, so she will probably grow to be knockout like her older sister. She had the kind of small, slim, and petite build that would say that she was both attractive and adorable. When she teased Spike this morning, he couldn't help but notice that her butt was one of her more attractive physical attributes. It looked tight and perky, with just the right amount of plumpness to it. Her chest wasn't something that she could brag about, being AA-cup, but Spike knew that some males had a particular liking for small breasts.

Spike personally didn't care about breast size. As long as he was attracted to a girl both emotionally AND physically, he would be happy and content.

After the siblings got themselves ready, they gathered out by the gate and waited for Blazer to get the camera ready. Spike looked at Rarity and noticed that she had this big smile on her face. She looked at Spike and gave him a soft glare.

"What is it?", she asked.

Spike was suddenly flustered. "It's nothing. I was just noticing that you have this nice big smile on your face.", he responded. Rarity gave a small giggle.

"I was just thinking that this is nice. A picture together as one big family. Remember, we're family now. So don't forget to smile."

Spike did give a smile. "Okay, I'll smile. Actually, this is rather nice, doing something together as a family unit."

Suddenly, Blazer spoke up. "Okay, everyone! The camera's ready and I put it on a timer!", he informed his children.

He quickly made his way to them and put himself between his son and Sweetie Belle. They all smiled and waited.

"Okay, everybody say 'Drake Family'!", Blazer ordered.

"Drake Family!", they all shouted in unison right before the camera flashed. A picture came right out of a small slit built into the camera.

Blazer went to get the new image and looked at it. He gave a small smile and showed it to the kids. They were quite pleased with the resulting picture. They all looked really happy to be one big and happy family.

"Alright, that was a perfect picture. To be honest, I was afraid we were going to have to do multiple pictures. Spike has a tendency to scowl unintentionally. Anyway, I'll make a digital copy to send to your mother. You kids enjoy the rest of the day.", Blazer said, returning to the house.

"I'm just going to hang out in my room and read. There's a rather steamy bisexual mature love novel I've really been loving, recently.", Sweetie Belle said before leaving her two older siblings alone outside.

"That actually might explain the weird smell I've sensed walking past her room. Probably would be best not to get involved in that.", Spike thought to himself.

Now that the two eldest Drake stepsiblings were alone, Spike spoke. "Do you want to try to get to know each other better?", Spike asked.

Rarity decided to indulge her new brother. Maybe he would be be able to prove to her that he wasn't a creepy pervert.

"Yes. Let's do something together. As brother and sister.", she replied.

Spike was more than pleased.

"Okay. I have an idea: there's this really great family-owned convenience store that sells the best chocolate mint brownies. You'll love them!"

"Alright, let's go."

Spike suddenly looked worried. "I've got to warn you, though. This particular store is located in Shady Heights, which is a pretty rough neighborhood, to say the least. It's especially famous for gang violence."

Rarity just scoffed. "I may not look like it, but I can handle myself in a fight against some common street rats.", she said while holding up a clenched fist. Spike put on a determined face.

"Still, if anything happens, I want you to run as fast as you can. Don't wait for me or anything else. Just run.", Spike said.

Rarity held a look of genuine surprise. "I've never seen someone so determined to protect another. Maybe he is a knightly person, after all.", she thought to herself.

"Okay. I'll run. But only if you can handle the threat! If it looks like you'll be hurt, I'm helping you fight! That's a promise!", she proclaimed to her older brother.

"I can't run the risk of you putting yourself in danger for my sake."

"Too bad! We're family, Spike! And family's supposed to help each other, right? Besides, I already promised. So there's no backing out of it, now."

Spike could only sigh in defeat. She did have a point. They'll just have to protect each other if something does happen. Eventually, Spike smiled.

"Fine, we'll both promise to protect each other from now on."

"As family."

And with that, they both left for Shady Heights.

At Shady Heights

The walk to Shady Heights was pretty uneventful. Apart from a few hissing stray cats and a particularly aggressive guard dog, that is. The buildings in this part of town were either run-down or abandoned. A far-cry from any golden age this neighborhood might have had before. What was once a happy and prosperous place had descended into a tattered shadow. There were various homeless people lining the streets, with some looking like they were addicted to illegal drugs. Some of the younger people were hanging around the corners with bats and metal pipes in their hands. These guys were obviously gangsters.

Gang violence was common in this part of town, with the Timberwolves being the most powerful of the gangs. With very little police presence in Shady Heights, the Timberwolves for the most part have built their own little empire in the neighborhood. This gang was known for their acts of brutality and even murder and rape. People from this town can recognize a Timberwolf because of the tattoo of a wooden wolf's head on their foreheads. Anyone with that tattoo was treated with fear and loyalty. Anyone who disrespected them would either go missing completely or be found a few days later with broken bones, missing teeth, or missing fingers and toes. Once, a man was found with his whole left arm amputated by a machete. The Timberwolves were also a large gang, with six hundred members. Spike and Rarity had to tread carefully her to avoid any incident.

Eventually, the pair arrived at Flim and Flam's Convenience Stable. Spike walked in with Rarity in step. He looked over at the counter to see the FlimFlam Brothers taking stock of their inventory. The Brothers looked over at Spike and smiled.

"Hello there, Spike!", they both greeted in unison.

Since Spike regularly came to their store for the chocolate mint brownies, had a somewhat of a friendship with them. They always gave him what they referred to as their "Regular's Discount", which was surprising considering how he heard that they could be quite tight when it came to money. Although, this friendly attitude towards him may have something to do with the fact that he stopped a junkie from robbing them, one time. Either way, it was good for him since he loved their chocolate mint brownies.

"Hey, guys! Are you both working hard?", Spike asked the brothers.

"Are you kidding me? We're hardly working!", Flim responded, earning laughs from both his brother and Spike.

It was at that moment that the brothers noticed Rarity standing next to Spike. Flam raised an eyebrow and directed a sly smile at Spike.

"Who's the lovely lady by your side, Spike? You finally got yourself a girlfriend, you sly wolf?", he asked in a teasing voice. Spike could only blush.

"No way, man! This is my new stepsister, Rarity.", Spike replied to the strange question.

Rarity stepped forward and gave a polite smile and wave. "Hello, my name is Rarity, and I'm Spike's new sister. Thank you for having us in your lovely establishment", she said with a polite bow.

The Brothers were taken aback by how polite and cultured she acted. Most of the people who come into their store were either rude douchebags or mischievous punks trying to shoplift. But this girl was a much needed breath of fresh air. When they next spoke, they had these really goofy but happy looks.

"Thank you for visiting our humble store. Please let us know if there's anything you need.", Flim said.

"Yes, yes. Anything at all. We are always happy to serve our customers.", Flam stated.

While the Flim-Flam Brothers were "occupied", Spike led Rarity to the sweets section to look for the addictive brownies. After a few minutes, Spike found their prize. The brownies had this rich dark chocolate base with a coating of cool mint frosting on top and preserved in an air-tight plastic package. Spike would literally fight someone if they tried to take the brownies away from him. There was only one package left, and Spike thanked his lucky stars that no one else took it.

After taking the package in his hands, he and Rarity made it to the front register to pay for their treats.

Spike was just about to pay the appropriate amount when the front door suddenly bust open and fifteen guys all walked into the store. Guys all with matching wooden wolf's head tattoos on their foreheads. Spike instantly grew worried.

"Fuck, some members of the Timberwolves are here! I better play it cool and try to get myself and Rarity out of here with no problems."

He hurriedly paid the amount he owed to the Brothers and grabbed Rarity's hand. They were just about to leave when a voice called out close behind them.

"Well, well, well. Ain't that the best fuckable piece of ass I've ever seen.", one of the Timberwolves said with a voice dripping with lustful desire. It made both Rarity and Spike sick to their stomachs.

"Yeah, you're right.", another Timberwolf said.

"Hey, cutie-pie. Who might you be?", the first Timberwolf asked.

Spike hoped to get out of here peacefully. He didn't even want Rarity talking to these guys.

Rarity wanted to leave with no trouble. She quickly decided that the best course of action was to placate them and try to get them to leave both her and her brother alone. So she turned around and faced them, much to Spike's shock. She gave these thugs her most polite smile.

"My name is Rarity Drake. And this is my brother: Spike.", she introduced.

Spike turned around and gave them a soft glare and a simple nod while crossing his arms. "Hey.", he greeted flatly.

The Timberwolves barely even looked at him. They were distracted by his good-looking sister. These thugs were obviously not good people. They weren't afraid to get violent for any reason. Spike could tell that these guys lived pretty shitty criminal lives just from their appearances. Some had missing patches of hair along with missing or rotting teeth. They also had scars and lesions that indicated drug abuse. All of them wore dirty and stained clothes. They all ranged from being skeletally skinny or jacked as hell. Most had knives on them or pipes or bats. They were actually carrying weapons into a store!

Since they were standing a few feet away from each other, Spike could smell the filth and B.O. coming off these thugs. Still, these guys were hardened criminals he had to play his cards right.

"Well, it was nice meeting you guys. But we really should get going. We need to be home in time for dinner. Don't want to keep Dad and Little Sis waiting for us.", Spike said, looking at Rarity with urgency in his eyes.

Rarity was quick to catch on. "Yes, of course, Big Brother. We simply must be going.", she said, turning to leave.

Before they could leave, however, two of the Timberwolves jumped in front of the pair and blocked their path to the exit. They brandished their weapons and smiled threateningly at them. A dark chuckle sounded behind them.

"Now, now. A broad as cute as you doesn't just waltz into our territory and just leaves without paying the toll.", one apparent leader of the pack said.

The leader was a tall and thin guy a little older than Spike. Maybe his early twenties. He had tan skin, dark blue hair, and violet eyes. He wore a black leather jacket with black fingerless gloves, a white tank-top underneath the jacket, ripped jeans with half the left leg torn off completely, and red sneakers. He also carried a hunting knife in his right hand.

"What toll would that be?", Rarity calmly asked.

The leader smiled with crooked yellow teeth. "Why, joining me and the boys for a little 'party' we have planned. It will be quite entertaining."

"Sorry, Mister...?", Rarity politely asked.

"Call me Alpha, leader of the Timberwolves!", he said.

Suddenly, his subordinates all howled like actual wolves. Spike's frustration with the situation rose. They crossed paths with not just any Timberwolf, but the fucking leader of the whole fucking gang! After the howling was done, Rarity spoke again.

"Sorry, Mr. Alpha, but we already made plans with our family tonight. We are not able to attend any function you may be hosting, this evening.", Rarity said with more composure that Spike thought was possible.

Alpha suddenly scowled. "Listen, bitch! No one in this town just says 'no' to Alpha. Now, how about this: either you come with us and have a great time, or we'll have to hurt both you and your cocksucker brother?!", Alpha threatened.

Spike saw Rarity's face turn into the same scowl Spike had. When she opened her mouth, she spoke with the most venom she ever used in her voice.

"First, you threaten to rape me, then you threaten to hurt both me and my brother?! I heard that you were supposed to be wolves, but you're no wolves, at all! Wolves are noble and honorable creatures! All I see before me is nothing more than a pack of mangy stray dogs who should've been put down by their own mothers, you sorry sacks of shit!", she shouted at the gangsters.

The tension in the air was palpable. Everyone's mouths were hanging open and their eyes were as big as plates. Spike was not only shocked at Rarity's major boost in confidence, but also at her cursing. The Timberwolves, Alpha included, were shocked that someone in their neighborhood truly had the balls to speak like that to them. The Flim-Flam Brothers were both shocked and happy that this seemingly harmless girl stood up to their neighborhood's tyrants. This might as well be history in the making.

Slowly, Alpha's shocked expression turned into that of venomous rage. He was visibly seething. No one had ever spoken that way to him. Well, no one still breathing. He brandished his hunting knife and pointed it at Rarity. Spike tensed every muscle in his whole body, ready for a fight.

"You. And you brother. Are both dead. But first, I'm gonna fuck you whether you want it or not. Then, I'll slit your fucking throat. And after that, I'm gonna fuck your corpse, bitch! After I'm done with you, I'm gonna do the same exact thing to your brother! But we got to tenderize you both first. Get 'em, boys!", Alpha yelled.

Suddenly, the Timberwolves rushed at them both. Spike wanted to do this peacefully and avoid a fight. He'll have to chastise Rarity about provoking violent thugs later. Right now, he had to focus on the fight before him. Luckily for him, he knew how to fight untrained fools like these.

One of the Timberwolves tried to swing a knife at Spike, but he deflected his opponent's blade to stab into the wall. Spike then slammed the thug's head into the very same wall, knocking him out. Another gangster had a long metal pipe with him that was shoulder-high. After a one punch knockout, Spike now possessed the pipe. He used it like a fighting staff and easily defeated three more of their attackers. Spike made sure that all of his strikes were non-lethal. He noticed that he both ran out of thugs to fight and that Rarity was no longer in his sight!

"Oh shit! I hope they didn't take her while I was distracted! If they do anything to her, they're fucking dead!", Spike thought furiously.

Suddenly, a Timberwolf member came flying across the aisles and landed on the ground with a painful thud. Spike turned the corner to see his sister taking on multiple Timberwolves at once. Before Spike could run to help her, she grabbed one of the thugs by the neck and effortlessly throw him into the wall with such force, it left a crack in the drywall. All with one hand! The others tried to attack her at once, but she effortlessly dodged and countered all of them. Spike was amazed. It was like a deadly acrobatic dance.

After Rarity had dispatched all of the henchmen, it was down to just her and Alpha. Alpha was super pissed off that his men were all beaten so easily. Rarity looked at him with condescending disgust.

"What? To afraid to fight alongside your own men? How shameful. I'd think the great Alpha of the fearsome Timberwolves would've loved to fight on the battlefield with his troops. You're definitely no wolf. You're a spineless coward.", Rarity said to Alpha's reddening face.

With a horrifying cry, Alpha rushed at Rarity, knife in hand. But before he could deliver any blow, Spike ran at him and sank his fist into Alpha's face. That punch had all of his strength behind it, enough to shatter his teeth and break his jaw. Alpha went sent flying into and ice cream cooler twenty feet away from them with enough force to send both him and the cooler back against the wall! The Timberwolf's body slumped to the floor and didn't get back up.

"He's definitely going to feel that tomorrow.", Spike thought.

With the threat eliminated, Spike and Rarity looked at each other for any injuries. Rarity was completely unharmed while Spike had a few cuts and bruises. After that, they started laughing. They were laughing like fighting street thugs was the funniest thing that happened to them in their entire lives. Once they calmed down, they went to the front, picked up their brownies, called the police to pick up the gangsters, and left.

However, they didn't leave Shady Heights without making sure the police arrested the small pack of Timberwolves they left at the store. They stayed out of sight when the police were marching the handcuffed gangsters to the police cars while reading them their rights. Alpha was the last one to be escorted to the police cars, with a bruised, bloody, and swollen face.

"Well that takes care of the Timberwolves. With their leader gone, the rest of the gang might disband or get caught by the police later.", Rarity said with hope.

"Or they might lay low while fighting amongst themselves to becoming the next leader. Either way, with Alpha gone, the gang will never regain their strength.", Spike replied.

Rarity suddenly blushed and looked away from Spike. "Thank you for saving me back there. That was one hell of a punch you gave that lowlife.", Rarity praised.

Spike just smiled. "I may have had some training. Besides, you were awesome, too! You sent those clowns flying with just one hand. That was amazing!".

"Well, I think this proves it.", Rarity said.

"Proves what?".

"That we can depend on and trust each other. Again, thanks for the save. I love you, Big Brother.", Rarity said, while kissing Spike on the cheek.

Spike put a hand to his cheek and blushed. "No problem. I'll always protect my family. Now that the fight is over, what's say we go home?"

"Yes. Let's go home.".

The older Drake held out his hand, which Rarity accepted. They got up and left for home together.

At the Drake Household

After an explanation for his dad about why he got some cuts and bruises, Blazer attended to his son's wounds. He was in the middle of applying a bandage to his son's forehead when he spoke.

"Hey son, I hate to break this to you, but I'm going to be going away on a business trip for a while.", Blazer said.

"What? How long is this business trip going to be?", Spike asked.

Blazer just shrugged. "I don't know. Could be either a few months or a few years.", Blazer said casually.

Spike was shocked.

"What?! But Dad, what are we going to do without you?"

"Don't worry. You're a young man now. It's high-time you learned how to run a household when the family patriarch isn't around. Besides, you've already proven that you can protect yourself and your sisters, if you have to."

"What about money? How will we pay the bills if you're not going to be here?"

"Relax. I make a lot of money for my job, so I'll be periodically sending you money for food, bills, and other crap. I know that I can count on you to protect the family and home while I'm away."

Spike knew that there was no point in arguing. "Alright, Dad. I promise to protect the family and home.", Spike declared.

"Attaboy, son.".

After patching up his son, Blazer went upstairs and returned with a suitcase and a traveling bag. Strangely, Rarity and Sweetie Belle weren't there to see their father off.

"Now son, there's money in that jar on the coffee table for pizza. Order whatever kind of pizza you like!", Blazer said.

"Okay, Dad. I love you.".

"I love you too, son.", Blazer replied before leaving.

Once Blazer had gotten into a taxi and drove off, Spike returned to the house. After shutting the door, he went to look for his sisters to ask what kind of pizza they wanted. Eventually, he found them both sitting in the living room.

"Hey, girls. What kind of pizza do you want for dinner?", Spike asked them. He started to get the weird feeling that something was off.

They weren't looking at him. In fact, they didn't seem to be acknowledging him, at all. They also had these very serious scowls on their faces. Like something was wrong. Sweetie Belle turned to him.

"Spike, could you do something for us?", she asked.

The young Drake was unsure of what she was asking, but he thought that she wanted him to order a specific kind of pizza.

"Sure. What do you want? What kind of pizza? Cheese? Pepperoni? Supreme? Buffalo chicken?", he asked. Sweetie just continued to give him that scowling owl stare.

"No, we want you to leave this house. Right now.", she said flatly.

"Huh?"

Now Spike was even more confused.
