Night to Talk

“That’s what’s been bugging me, Twilight.”

“What has?” Twilight asked glancing up from a book she’d been skimming through.

“Twilight, I’m in love with Spike.”

“Rarity I could already tell. I bet even Spike’s noticed.”

Rarity glanced around the room they were in inside Friendship Castle. “I can’t just ask him now, can I?”

“Well, that would be the easiest way,” Twilight muttered and then cleared her throat. “I can send Spike over to see you tonight. I know he won’t object to it. It’ll give you some time to plan.”

Rarity thought about it for a second before nodding to the idea.

Twilight had kept Spike busy for the most part till the later end of the day. Even though Spike was older now he still didn’t mind helping out where he was needed. She’d noticed something different in how he was acting. “You okay Spike?”

Spike glanced over at Twilight while he put a few more books he’d been dusting back on the shelf. “I just wish I knew what Rarity was thinking about me.” I’ve noticed the glances…

I couldn’t have planned that any better. Twilight kept her grin from showing. “I had planned on not having you do anything more tonight. Maybe Rarity might want some company?” Twilight watched those frills perk up at the mere mention of Rarity’s name.

“I had already planned on going to see her tonight.”

Rarity tried to keep herself from pacing. Twilight hadn’t given her an exact time and that seemed to add to the excitement. She’d gotten her place cleaned up so when Spike did come over, she could focus on him. A sizable pile of blue sapphires had been placed in a bowl. “Spike’s favorite gems of course-” A knock on the Boutique doors made her turn on her hooves. Well, speaking of him. She thought while trotting over to the door.

Spike stood on the other side of the door listening for the sound of Rarity’s hooves. The door opened and light from inside spilled out into the night illuminating Spike. He found himself already lost in those dark sapphire eyes the second he caught sight of her. “Um…evening Rarity.” That was as all Spike managed to say.

“Please do come in Spikey.” Rarity said stepping to one side allowing him to walk on in. She could feel her heart racing and she’s been wondering what Twilight might have told him. She’d glanced back at him when she felt her front hooves catch on one another. Starting to fall forward she let out a gasp, then felt a solid surface followed by the feeling of weightlessness.

Spike had caught Rarity; he’d seen her start to trip and acted without thinking. He had one arm around her midsection and the other close to her rump. “Rarity, I never knew you had two right hooves,” Spike said with a grin. He found it surprising how light she was.

“I don’t darling.” Rarity said putting a hoof on his chest.

Spike carried her over to her large spacious couch and sat down while still keeping his grip on her. He noticed that Rarity hadn’t tried to move. “You can climb down if you want. I’m not stopping you.”

Rarity felt her cheeks redden a little. “Sorry, I’m finding this rather comfortable. The heat from you is so warm and relaxing.”

“I am a dragon, so we tend to be warmer. Can be nice on cold nights…” His voice trailed off when she laid her head against his chest.

“I could get used to this, Spikey.” Rarity said not bothering to hide how that sounded.

“You’ve never had to ask,” Spike admitted, with his dragon ears he could hear his own heart beating in time with hers. Have we always done that? A scent caught his nose glancing over he spotted a large bowl of sapphire gems.

“You can have the bowl of gems if you want.”

Spike took in a deep breath. He knew Rarity could feel it. “Why? When I already have the gem, I’ve wanted.”

Rarity turned to face him; those sapphire eyes looked more like twin pools of water. “Spikey…” Did I trip on purpose? The thought entered her mind.

“I’ve never known your trip like that before,” Spike replied. “Did something else trip you up?” He added running a claw up her side and stopping at where her heart was. “I can feel your heart beating faster now."

“Spikey…I um…”

He trailed a claw up her neck to her chin causing her body to shudder on him. “I caught you without even thinking. I just acted.”

Rarity lifted an eyebrow when she felt her head stop spinning. “Like how I tripped.” Her ears perked up on the thumping sound of his heart right next to her ear. “I hear what you mean.”

Spike tilted his head down so he could look into Rarity’s eyes. He could see the same thing reflecting in hers that he knew was in his.

“We’ve always been close Spikey.”

“I’ve just never noticed that our hearts were as well. I’d secretly hoped they were.” Spike admitted.

“Same here Spikey.” Thank you so much Twilight.

“You know Rarity, everypony knew, we’re always seen together, I’m always over here helping you out.”

“Believe me, darling, I wanted to say something to you for years.”

“I’ve noticed the glances, I figured you had your reasons,” Spike revealed. “We’ve been torturing ourselves for a way too long.” He noticed that his index claw had been circling just under her ear. Rarity’s mouth was slightly open. He leaned his face a little closer.

Rarity smiled when he cupped her chin, she nodded seaming to read what he was silently asking for. Knowing there was no way of going back to where they were. She took her hoof and brought it behind his neck.

Spike and Rarity could feel the world around them pause at the moment when their lips met for the first time.
