The Ur-Quan Kzer-Za are an ancient people who seek to subjugate and enslave every sapient species that is not their own, and they have just discovered Equis. The Ur-Quan leave the choice to Equis inhabitants' to either be subjugated and covered by a planet-sized slave shield or to allow the planet's inhabitants to become a spacefaring client state that will wage war and donate conscripts to the Ur-Quan war machine.

Unfortunately for the inhabitants of Equis, the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za are not the worst evil lurking in the void of space.
