Prologue

Cadance was sat at a large table in the center of her throne room, Queen Chrysalis of the changeling kingdom had been invited for a conversation about how they could improve relations, other countries and kingdoms had reported that the changeling kingdom was making a concerted effort to have a better reputation and was attempting to forge friendships and alliances far and wide whilst making little to no demands. Across the table was the changeling monarch herself, Chrysalis, ready to have a formal yet friendly discussion with the woman that, years ago, she had impersonated in an effort to invade and occupy the city of Canterlot. After her defeat, Chrysalis had to face the reality that the changelings had to move on from their old ways and have a more positive political approach rather than the whole belief of "If we want it, we take it".

Cadance cleared her throat and said "Your majesty, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the crystal empire, I trust you had an enjoyable journey and I hope that the rather unfortunate necessity to have several royal guards escort you here did not offend you. While I and many other leaders are able to overlook the past, the populace are not so ready and willing to forget about previous events"

Chrysalis simply said "Not at all, I understand that our recent reformation initiative is difficult to accept when, under different and now abolished rules and circumstances, the changelings would rather wage war instead of sitting down to negotiate a situation that pleases both parties, for which I can only apologize. It is my hope that, eventually, the distrust that civilians have for the citizens of my kingdom will be a hurdle that we can overcome in order to achieve peace and harmony"

Contract and Costume

Cadance smiled as she nodded and said "That's good to hear, however before we start a proper discussion about our two kingdoms working together, there are a couple of concerns which I believe need to be addressed, do you object?"

Chrysalis shook her head and said "Of course not, I am willing to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability, I want these negotiations to go as smoothly as possible"

Cadance simply said "Excellent, first order of business regards concerns from my fellow princesses, Celestia and Twilight. If I understand correctly, the talks culminated with Princess Luna and Twilight Sparkle's mother visiting the changeling kingdom. Though as you are no doubt aware, those two individuals have not returned or had any contact with their family members, do you have an explanation for this?"

Chrysalis bit her lip as she said "Ah yes, I can see why people may assume that there is some kind of malevolent intent when facts like that exist. I can assure you that Twilight Velvet and Princess Luna have come to no harm physically or mentally and are staying in the kingdom of their own volition, we are making every effort to make sure that they are living comfortably. If necessary I can provide proof of their safety, though I imagine that steps will have to be taken to establish regular contact to ensure their continuous connection to both the kingdom and their families, with additional precautions that will guarantee a rogue changeling won't attempt to impersonate either of them for information extraction or love consumption. I hope this has put those concerns to rest"

Cadance confidently went "For the moment, yes, I am willing to trust what you say for the time-being until what you say can be suitably confirmed at a later date. Now with that out of the way, from what I understand after hearing reports of neighboring kingdoms and other world leaders, your initiative is currently working on the basis that a stronger bond with other kingdoms starts with a simple trade that will open up other opportunities in future, correct?"

Chrysalis confirmed and said "Precisely, I feel that exchanging goods and/or services is the best way to start getting others to trust us and, whenever they feel comfortable, befriend us. Is there anything that your empire requires that we may be able to provide?"

Cadance thought for a moment, she didn't know what the changelings could possibly provide and, truth be told, she couldn't think of anything that she or her subjects particularly needed. This was an issue, she needed to think of something otherwise things could go south very quickly, Chrysalis had already made it perfectly clear before the meeting that if a deal couldn't be struck then she couldn't guarantee that the hive wouldn't appeal to her to attempt a hostile take-over, which was something that she genuinely wanted to avoid. Then Cadance had an epiphany, she thought of something that was needed on quite a universal scale, it was perfect! Cadance went "Your Majesty, if I have my facts straight, the changeling kingdom is in possession of a type of rock that can absorb magic, would that be accurate?"

Chrysalis nodded and said "Yes, in fact my throne was sculpted out of the stuff, you have an interest in such a substance?"

Cadance said a vehement "Yes, would you be able to provide a substantial enough amount so that we may build a magic-dampening dungeon? If the bars were made of that particular kind of rock It would be extremely beneficial, any future villains would be robbed of their magic so long as they remain in this dungeon I am suggesting be built"

Chrysalis hummed in thought and said "I am afraid to say that this is an extremely large ask, this rock is very valuable to us and we prefer to hold on to it in order to keep the heat off of our former army generals who now work more like security for the hive. Not only is this rock valuable to us but it is also extremely difficult to mine, it's very rare with only small underground pockets of it existing solely in the changeling kingdom and on top of all that... it is very challenging to properly sculpt successfully into a specific shape, there is a reason my throne can't be destroyed, so to cultivate it and alter it to suit the needs of this supposed prison... I would expect whatever demands I make to be met in return for supplying you with enough of this rock and believe me, the demand will most likely be something you would consider to be just as large an ask if not larger"

Cadance soaked in what Chrysalis had said and went "I understand, what is your proposal?"

Chrysalis, seemingly without a second thought, confidently proclaimed "Well as it turns out, head of security at the hive, a young changeling by the name of Pharynx, has quite the thing for ponies and has taken many a wife. Since this is a security issue, what with the rock being our main source of protection from malicious magic, it only seems fitting that he should gain another"

Cadance, making sure she was understanding correctly, asked "Are you saying that, in exchange for this rock, you want me to give one of my own citizens to be married to this Pharynx character?"

Chrysalis shook her head and said "No no no, you misunderstand. You, specifically you"

Cadance was even more against this idea than before as she went "Hang on... me? I'm sorry your majesty but... surely you know that I am already married?"

Chrysalis shrugged and said "Yes... and? You're the princess of love are you not? Sharing love is literally what you are good at"

Cadance stuttered and went "Well... yes but, I can't very well divorce my husband to wed someone I've never met"

Chrysalis furrowed her brow and sternly said "I'm not asking you to divorce him, simply accept Pharynx as another husband. Need I remind you that this marriage would not be a marriage of love anyway? It's a matter of politics, if an agreement cannot be reached here, then I cannot ensure that there won't be conflict between our kingdoms in future and as previously stated, this is not negotiable. No wedding, no rock, no peace"

Cadance's hands were tied, there wasn't anything they needed from the changeling kingdom other than the rock and part of the deal of this possible alliance was that the crystal empire be granted a token as thanks for giving the changelings a second chance. There was nothing for it, she would have to marry Pharynx. There were mixed feelings when she announced to the kingdom that her discussions with Chrysalis had reached a satisfactory conclusion, the populace wasn't too happy that their princess would be spending the majority of her time in the changeling kingdom, Shining Armor had been surprisingly understanding even if he wasn't exactly supportive of the situation, the biggest complaint actually came from Twilight. Twilight was frantic as she said "Cadance! What were you thinking?! You can't do this! What about Flurry!? Did you think of her at all?!"

Cadance said "Yes I did Twilight, why do you think I'm agreeing to this? I'm trying to prevent a war!"

Twilight then said "Well what about Luna and my mother?! How do you know nothing terrible has happened to them!? Chrysalis may have given her word but are you really going to trust that?! What if this is an elaborate ruse to steal the identities of more monarchs!? The war could potentially already be happening right under our noses!!!"

Cadance said "Trust is all we have at the moment Twilight! I'll travel to the changeling kingdom, Chrysalis has told me she is making arrangements to have frequent contact and visits so that any ponies in the changeling kingdom will still be as connected as possible with their loved ones and that no changelings are permitted to assume their guise lest they wish to face harsh punishment and consequences. I can't undo what is done Twilight, I promise that when I can contact you and let you know the situation I will, if you don't hear from me in six months then you have my permission to invade, clear?"

Twilight groaned and said "Fine, go see your new changeling husband-to-be, fucking hussy" After Cadance got her guards to temporarily arrest Twilight for insulting a fellow princess, she began her travels to the changeling kingdom for her wedding.

Chrysalis paused as she conjured up a large piece of parchment, which Cadance assumed to be some kind of contract or marriage certificate, Chrysalis pointed to a dotted line at the bottom of the paper scroll and finished her sentence with a simple "here" as she provided a quill.

Cadance paused and said "Wait... you mean I just sign this? There's no ceremony of any kind?"

Chrysalis shook her head and said "Not necessary, this marriage is an agreement, not a celebration of love. Ironic considering our past and our choice of nutrition but there you have it, assuming you come to adore Pharynx, then you'll keep him as well fed and strong as all of his other wives do, we want to earn our food honestly and for it to be given voluntarily, we've no wish to forcibly steal it"

Cadance then said "Well... am I not meeting Pharynx before signing this? Shouldn't he be here to accept me as his new wife?"

Cadance took in a deep breath, then let it out as she took the quill from Chrysalis and confidently scribbled her name along the dotted line.

Chrysalis smiled and said "Excellent" as she rolled up the parchment and zapped it away before saying "Pharynx's brother, Thorax, will be along soon to make sure you are suitably presentable, he'll be responsible for your wardrobe and hairstyle to ensure that you make a good first impression on your new husband, OK?"

Cadance simply nodded and waited patiently while Chrysalis left to start ordering some workers to start digging for the rock that needed delivering to the crystal empire, not to mention she had her own thing to work on in terms of guaranteeing frequent contact between Pharynx's pony wives and their friends and family back in their respective home towns. A few moments later, Thorax walked into the throne room with a small trunk in hand as he said "Ah, there you are Princess Cadance, are you ready to be fitted?"

Cadance nodded and calmly said "Yes, if I need to have proper attire to suitably please my new husband then that's what I shall do, I will need his approval after all"

Thorax said "Excellent, after I've done your hair you'll need to disrobe so I can take accurate measurements, do you object?"
