Wildfire Summer Run
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryWildfire Summer Run
Summer Run had always thought of herself as unique. Her coat was a pale gray color and she had black strips along her face. Her mane and tail were pure white same as her horn, that's what made her unique being a unicorn zebra. She sat near the edge of a cliff overlooking Ponyville. Images flashed through her mind of a unique friend she'd met when she was a little filly. He was unique in the fact that he was a dragon. She'd heard the stories of Spike and Rarity and thought they were just stories passed down over time. Two unique hearts that found love between different worlds. She smiled as the memories played in her mind unaware of someone sneaking up hidden by the bushes near the cliff. Memories of her childhood rushed back
Wildfire twitched his spikey tail behind him and kept his movements as quiet as he could. His leathery wings were folded at his side to streamline his body through the brush. Her unique colors and pattern on her face made her easy to pick out, plush she was the only unicorn zebra he knew. He knew without a second thought as to who was sitting at the edge. Seeing her for the first time when she was a little filly made him smile. It had been on a grassy field where she’d been racing around through the grass.
Summer Run tried to come to a stop and bumped into him. He let the memory come back.
“Sorry, morning grass is slippery.” Summer Run said shaking out her white mane water droplets caught the morning sun sending little flashes of rainbows into the sky. She noticed who she’d accidentally bumped into. A dragon?
Wildfire got back up and caught sight of her sky-blue eyes each had a small heart-shaped reflection in them. They stood out from her white mane and gray-toned fur. His jaw dropped open at the sight of her.
“You’re not mad at me, are you?” Summer Run asked stretching out her legs and back. She swished her long tail from side to side and glanced back at him. “What?” She asked seeing his mouth open.
“I…normally don’t land in the field.” He muttered trying not to look at her.
Summer Run took note of his small wings compared to the size of his body, the scales that ran up his nose. A mess of light green hair on his head with two horns poking out on either side at the top. “You can fly?” She noticed his scaly skin was a darker green and it matched his eyes, which had flecks of blue in them. What would it be like to fly? She thought.
“Yeah, I can fly.” He said puffing out his chest trying to look even bigger. “I’m also strong.” He declared and did the one thing he was trying not to do. He looked at her.
“Really?” She said turning around to face him and biting back a giggle at how he looked. I’ve never actually talked to a dragon.
Wildfire felt his heart stop for a second. She’s a strange one…yet… He thought and took in a breath. “Want me to prove it?” He asked and noticed they were standing on top of a hill.
She walked up to him and smiled at him. The sunlight caught her sky-blue eyes.
Wildfire glanced up at her and then back down. He tried to hide the fact that his cheeks were turning red. I said it now, I have to prove it. Dragon code. He realized then reached out and was able to pick her up, he felt his legs shaking just a bit.
Summer Run let out a little squeak at the feeling of being picked up. The heat of his body tickled her fur. “Wow…” She said in a rush of air. “You’re really strong and so warm.”
“I’m a dragon, so it’s a given.” He said trying to maintain his grip on her. He felt himself start to teeter. Opening his small wings he tried to counterbalance but no oval. “Oh…no…” He got the words out before the two of them went rolling down the hill and came to a rest beside each other.
Summer Run got back to her hooves and looked down at the dragon laying on his back. “What happened?” She asked and didn’t bother to hide the giggle as it left her chest.
Wildfire grinned at her and found himself liking the sound of her laugh. “Lost my balance.” He admitted, he wasn’t about to lie and started to laugh along with her.
“I’m Summer Run.” She said when she’d stopped laughing.
Wildfire tilted his head as his laughter had died down. “How’d you get that name?” He asked getting back to his claws and sitting down beside her.
“My mother’s a zebra and when I was born it was summertime, the first thing I did was run. Oh, and my father was a unicorn.
He nodded and made the connections. “Makes sense, I’m called Wildfire.”
“Because you’re wild and you also breathe fire.”
“Was that too easy?” Wildfire smiled; he could tell there was something about her he found himself liking already.
“Yup.” She said bumping his shoulder with the end of her hoof in a playful manner.
“Hey.” He said and started to teeter again; he caught the grin on her face. Smiling back at her he said the next thing that came to mind. “Want to play tag?”
Summer Run laughed and nodded.

The Years had rolled by and the two of them played every day anyone who saw them knew they were close friends. Each would look out for one another no matter the situation. Over time both of them had grown and matured.

The sound of a twig snapping had her ears twitching. “Hello, Wildfire.” Summer Run said turning around when he came out of the bushes. His tail caught a breeze same as her mane.
Wildfire laughed his voice had grown deeper over the years; he was now the size of an average pony, lean and muscular. Summer Run had grown up too, her mane had become longer, and her body was now slender. “I figured you’d hear me, Summer Run.”
Summer Run felt her cheeks turning red. He still had that effect on her even all these years ago. “Yeah, you stepping on a twig was a dead giveaway.”
Wildfire came up to her and sat down next to her. He opened his now lager wings and stretched them out.
Summer Run smiled and took in the sight of him. He had a look of danger and fear to those that didn’t know him as she had over the years. “Trying to impress me?” I still want to go flying…
Wildfire smiled at her and folded his wings to his sides again. “Do I still need to?”
She tapped a hoof on her chin and grinned at him.
Wildfire rolled his eyes at her. “You need to think about it?” For a while now he’d thought about taking her on a flight. Yet what had happened the first time still echoed in his memories. There’s no way I’d let myself drop her.
Summer Run had noticed that he was looking up at the night sky with the full moon hanging among the stars. “You know I trust you. We were kids, young teens, back then, and it was my fault for causing us to crash.” She could still remember running in the field and seeing him swoop down beside her. Jumping up Wildfire caught her in mid-air keeping himself low to the ground. Her hooves hand comes around his neck. “You did it.” Her voice rose in pitch.
“Yeah, you’d kissed me on the cheek.” Wildfire said still remembering the feeling of her soft silky fur on his cheek and the feeling of her lips and remembering saying something back to her. “I lost my concentration.”
“You’d turned several shades of red when I did.”She could hear her words in her memories.“I said I was sorry. Wildfire, I couldn’t help it, I was so excited, it had been my dream to fly…I wanted to thank you.” Though it was only for a few seconds… She found herself grinning a bit.
He could picture himself after the kiss on the cheek. He started tilting to one side and then crashing down on the grass. Lest it was a soft landing. He’d opened his eyes to the purest laughter he’d ever heard from Summer Run. The sound had surprised him and then it stopped.
She’d gotten up and checked him for any injuries. “Wildfire…” She rubbed his cheek with hers. “Hey…”
He lifted his head and spit out a mouth full of grass, stars still danced in his eyes.
She let out a breath with relief that he was okay. “I’m so sorry.”
A question popped into his head from the memory. “Why’d you apologize for kissing me anyway?”
“I…don’t know. She admitted shaking out her mane. “I just…felt bad.”
Wildfire tilted his head. “For kissing me?”
“No, for causing you to crash.” She took in a deep breath. “And I’d kinda wanted to kiss you for a while. I guess I had bad timing back then-” She blurted out before she placed her hoof on her mouth her mane had fallen over her face.
Wildfire lifted an eyebrow at what she’d said and noticed that her face was covered by her mane. “You’re not blushing, are you?”
Summer Run could feel the heat on her cheeks and felt Wildfire parting her mane in the middle so he could see her face. “Okay, yes I’m blushing.” She admitted she pushed his nose with her hoof.
“Still want me to take you on a flight?” Wildfire asked taking her hoof in his claw. When her sky-blue eyes widened, he took hold of her other hoof, and he added. “I’ve gotten good at flying over the years, even better control in fact.”
“Aren’t you afraid I might try and kiss you again?” She asked knowing how close she was standing to him now. When he lowered his green gaze to her, she felt her heart skip a beat.
“I could solve that problem if you want.” He said with a grin.
Summer Run could see the fire in those dark green eyes of his. Is he actually being serious? Would he really… She could feel the heat from his body grow more intense. Closing her eyes she took in a breath and then felt herself falling backward. Opening her eyes she found that they were falling off the cliff together.
Wildfire had gotten him around her waist the second they started to fall. Summer Run had managed to grab hold of his neck and tighten her grip in that split second. The roar of the wind had muffled out her slight scream before she opened her eyes and found that she wasn’t falling alone. He opened his wings catching an updraft that took them up into the stary sky. He kept his wings ridged and glided along the tops of some of the clouds as he flew through the air.
“You could have warned me.” Summer Run said, she didn’t feel mad at him at all, she was flying like she’d been wanting to do for years.
“What? And spoil my surprise? I think not Summer Run.”
She laughed at that. “You really are a wild one, always been so bold and daring.” That’s only some of the reasons I’ve come to like you…yet…over the years… She shook her head and came to the conclusion that it was the flying that was getting to her head. Stop thinking foolishly.
He grinned at that. “Guilty, I think it’s what you like, have liked about me over the years.”
Summer Run’s mouth dropped open. She couldn’t deny the fact that she liked his wild side. “Like you, who said I even did.”
Wildfire glanced down at her knowing from this height he didn’t half to worry about any trees. Plus for miles on end, there was plenty of open space. “Would you have let just any dragon sweep you off your feet?” He kept his grip around her midsection with one of his arms and used his claws on his other arm to move her mane out of her eyes.
“You know the answer.” Summer Run replied and then grinned when she added. “You’d get jealous if that ever happened.” Her gaze met his.
Wildfire let out a gasp. “Me? Now you’re making it sound like I like you back.” He’d caught the grin on her lips. Ah, I see what you’re doing here.
Summer Run laughed at him being dramatic. She knew she had him with her next question. “Okay, then why did you fall out of the sky when I kissed you on the cheek?” She could feel his heart beating faster now. Hum…what has your heart speeding up.
I knew it. This should get me the reaction I know is coming. He cupped her cheek with his claw and lifted it. “Probably from the same feeling I know you have and still have for me. Because I felt it too back then and it’s only grown stronger over time.” You kiss someone because you like them.
“I just never knew how to admit it, I wasn’t sure if you felt the same wa…” Summer Ran’s voice trailed off as her mouth opened slightly. I really did just admit that… “Wildfire…” Her breath paused in her throat as he eyes fluttered shut. When he pressed his lips to hers her eyes shot open. She’d been expecting he’d go for her cheek like she’d done before to him. Her body tensed up in that brief second as she closed her eyes and gave in to the warmth that was spreading through her body causing her to relax in his arms.
Wildfire felt her kiss him back before he broke the kiss. He found himself taking in a deep breath. Stars dotted his vision like the sky above them.
Summer Run could still feel the fiery touch of his lips on hers. She took in a breath, finding her vision was blurry at first and then it cleared up. “It’s not from flying up so high.” She said out of the blue.
“Come again?” Wildfire asked. “The altitude can play with your head until you get used to it. He’d pulled her closer to his body and press his cheek into hers.
“You really do care about me.” She said after the spinning in her head started to clear up.
“I’ve never stopped caring after all these years. Ask anyone they’ll tell you that they could see how we cared for each other and that it’s only grown stronger. "
Here's how they looked as kids:

Author's Note
I had to include the two drawings I did before I clocked in for work on the First of April (I drew Summer Run) and on the Second of April ( I drew Wildfire). I just used a Bic black ink pen.
After I drew Wildfire and customers were really liking both of them. A little romance story started to bounce around in my head for these two. So I had to write it. I had come up with names yesterday for them and tomorrow night and today I wrote what I know isn't the first chapter between these two.
