The Next Prince and Princess
A Father's One Promise
Load Full Story"A filly and a foal, both of them beautiful and healthy. Look at them. But they don't look anything like us. Do think anypony can tell the difference?" Cadance said, gazing at the twins.
Shining Armor tilted his head. "We'll say that there were someponies who look like them. The filly looks like your mother, and the foal looks like my Uncle Treasure." He levitated the basket and the couple took their twins into the castle, preparing for the whirlwind that would occur as soon as the twin's birth was announced.
Twilight Sparkle looked at the babies, who sat playing on the floor. Music Mane, the foal and eldest, was munching on the sugar cookie treat that Pinkie and the Cakes had brought for him. His sister was eating a little pie while she played with her cars. Her name was Midnight Dancer. Rainbow Dash had noted that one was an alicorn, the other being a unicorn. This made no difference in the twin's relationship. They were inseperable, hugging and playing together, sharing toys, unlike most fillies and foals. Pumpkin Cake was growing up to be a secretive, shy, insecure filly, while Pound was arrogant, loud and full of mischief. "They've grown up to be so beautiful and elegant." Twilight remarked, looking at Music Mane, who spilled his juice and was picking up the cup and rubbing his mane on the spill.
Cadance giggled at her ever hungry and silly son, picking him up and cleaning off the spill. "Thank you Mommy!" He babbled, flailing his hooves. Cadance put him back on the playmat where he chased his sister. Midnight Dancer squealed in delight and moved around the playmat, trying to not let her brother catch her.
"It's so nice that they get along well. Maybe they share some special twin bond or something." Fluttershy commented, watching Music Mane trip over his sister and fall. Midnight Dancer was at her brother's side in moments, begging to see if he would be okay.
"I fine!" He declared, and the game began again. The twins chased each other around, and Shining Armor and Cadance found themselves wondering if their lives would always be a game to them, to chase each other, while ponies chased them. Wanting the two ponies dead, so that the eternal night would rage on while time stopped and all of Equestria's harmony lost. Such things made Princess Cadance want to cuddle her children, and Shining Armor only wished he could protect them more, because the biggest promise a father makes to his children is, "No matter what, I shall always protect you." and now, there was no way of knowing.
His daughter would grow to be a magnificent, graceful mare he was sure of it, and his son, an elegant, regal, athletic stallion, positive. But only Celestia could seal their fates, and now seemed like a terrible time to think of such thing, seeing as everyone enjoyed the beautiful twins, and he hoped their lives would be happy ones, with the impending disaster looming over their oblivious heads.
