Early Evening huffed to herself bitterly, tightening the scarf wound around her neck. She looked down at the distant farmland before her, scribbling a quick note in her book.
It was a beautiful sight, but this morning it did nothing for her.
Her stomach growled in irritation, another painful reminder that a rather daring flock of seagulls had decided to make away with her lunch.
The day was meant to be easy and nice, a break from the disastrous week that had wrought nothing but havoc on the observatory. Equipment failure, staffing shortages, and rogue Everfree weather had made her life a living nightmare, and she had been looking forward to a relaxing tour of sky patrol. “Stupid Twilight Sparkle and her new regulations,” she spat. “My balloon is perfectly fine. Why do I have to recertify when it’s just been inspected.”
Early slumped over the side of the balloon basket, staring listlessly at the ground far below her.
“Gosh, I’m wound tight,” she groaned. “I really need to find a way to blow this off… Maybe Cali has an idea.”
“I’m home!”
Early began shrugging off her layered flight jacket, her boots clicking against the wooden floor as she walked down the hall.
“Hey,” came the reply from the kitchen. “How was your flight?”
Early snorted, sitting down to pull off her boots. “Ugh. Awful, to be honest.”
“Aw,” replied Cali Pear as she emerged from the kitchen. “What happened?”
“Apparently our balloons are no longer compliant with policy because Twilight Sparkle changed the entire rulebook!” Early shouted. “It’s ridiculous! Something else I have to deal with on top of everything else!”
Cali blinked, taken aback by her marefriend’s harshness. She quickly understood though, and with a quiet breath decided to enact the plan she had come up with last night.
“Well, I can see her point.”
Early whipped her head around, the laces for her woolen flight boots still half-undone. “What?!”
Cali strolled into the room, mug in her hoof and smugness etched into her face. “Those balloons are dangerous, I think it’s a good thing she wants them to be safer.”
“That’s ridiculous,” Early snorted, exhaling through her nostrils. “You have no idea what I have to do just to get them off the ground!”
“Wow, calm down!”
“Calm down?” Early shot out of her chair, eye twitching slightly. “Do you even know the week I’ve just had?!”
Cali sipped from her mug and smiled. “Of course! You haven’t stopped talking about it since!”
Early stormed over, sticking her face right into Cali’s own. She growled, jabbing a hoof into Cali’s chest. “Then what is your problem!”
“Geez,” Cali said, raising her hooves in mock-surrender. “I was only joking!”
“Joking? Joking?!” Early was ready to explode, when a subtle gesture caught her eye. Cali raised her right wing, where a coil of rope was dangling from her feathertips. She narrowed her eyes, squinting at Cali who innocently smiled back.
“What? You’re going to shut me up?”
“You sure you want to do this?” Early asked skeptically.
Cali shrugged, setting down her mug. “You had a shit week! You deserve to unwind. And I’m a big girl, I can take it.”
Early nodded, taking a deep breath and squeezing her eyes shut for a second. When she opened them, she seized her marefriend and slammed her against the wall. “Big girl, huh?” she growled, relishing the surprise in Cali’s face.
Cali quickly recovered, smiling back and raising her voice. “You going to prove me otherwise?”
“We’ll see,” Early remarked, before their lips came together. After a few seconds, she broke the kiss, taking the rope Cali had brought. “But trust me, you are going to regret sassing me.”
Cali lay on the bed, completely restrained.
Her forelegs were bent and pinned behind her back, with additional strands of rope binding her wings together. She silently flexed them but was unable to move them anymore than a few inches. With her rear legs tied together as well, there was close to nothing she could physically move. “Heh, tighter than usual,” she challenged, laying her head against the pillow.
Her heart fluttered slightly, a buzz of excitement and a little bit of fear stirring inside of her.
Cali tried to sit up, but Early immediately shoved her back down, knocking the wind out of her. Cali grunted, trying to mask her shock with a coy grin. “Well! Someone’s feisty!”
That outburst earned her a sharp smack to the ass.
