It was an odd idea, though when Twilight explained it, Velvet couldn't deny that it actually made a lot of sense and would be a win-win for the most part. Incest between two ponies of the same gender was perfectly legal in Equestria, even if the sex became a relationship, though obviously it wasn't really encouraged which is why Twilight and Velvet decided to get married in secret. It went without saying that they would have to announce it at some point because the idea was that Velvet would basically fulfill the "dad" role instead of being the mom now, meaning that some of the responsibility would be lifted off her shoulders.

Of course the sex was still present despite both her and Twilight sharing equal amounts of responsibility for looking out for Shining, though the power dynamic of Velvet being the one on top remained, seems like she was making up for lost time and preferred to be in charge. Shining Armor had obviously noticed something was different, his mom would help him out with stuff here and there but most of the time it was his sister that went flitting about doing stuff for him, it all felt very strange and one day he had to question it because if he ever intended to properly introduce Cadance as his girlfriend rather than the two of them always sneaking around to find secluded areas to fuck, then he needed a good reason for why Twilight was acting like his mom while his actual mom seemed to just be there to advise or agree with Twilight. One morning during breakfast he turned to his mom and said "Mom... can you tell me what's going on here?"

Velvet just said "Ask your mother", Shining Armor was confused... he had literally just done that.

That's when Twilight explained "No no Shining, me and mom are partners now, she's playing the role of daddy. So I'm your mom, that explain everything sweetie?"
