Orchid awoke with a snort and judging by the same reaction from the mare next to her, it wasn't just her. "You felt that too?"

Her sister Lilly nodded, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "Felt it? I haven't felt something like this since we got out Knight Marks. Yours is glowing by the way."

Orchid looked. Her mark was indeed glowing. She pointed at Lilly's hoof. "So is yours. But why? They haven't done this in ages. And this feels different from the last time it did this."

Lilly nodded as the two made their way downstairs. "You're asking the wrong pony that. Maybe it's because we've had two new Knights in the last week? I never even thought Princess Twilight would become a Dragon Knight. Not that she doesn't deserve it!"

Orchid giggled as she poured a cup of coffee for both of them. "Maybe. And three in the last three years. That can't be a coincidence."

Lilly nodded. "And then there's this," she said, sliding a copy of today's paper across the table. The headline 'First Knight Returns.' was proclaimed in bold letters across the top, and the picture showed Amber and Blister meeting with Princess Twilight and her friends in Ponyville.

Orchid shrugged. "Who knows. We haven't seen Amber since that damn boot camp she put us through. I feel sorry for the princess if she gets the same treatment." She tapped her chin. "Do you think the girls felt it too?"

Lilly giggled. "If they're not feeling each other up right now, they probably did."

"Oh come now, Lilly. We're not that bad. We're just two dragons in love," came Shimmer's voice with a melodic giggle in the earth pony's mind, earning an eye roll from Lilly herself.

"Easy for you to say. I was enjoying all the cuddling you were giving me," came Onyx's voice in Orchid's mind, earning a giggle from the mare. "This better be important."

The sisters shared a concerned look. "You don't know what it is?" Orchid asked.

Onyx shook her head. "Not a damn clue. It almost feels like when we were all first joined together. But this is something else. I can feel something calling me up north. Something I've never felt."

Shimmer nodded. "Indeed. I have lived a long time. But I have never felt something like this before. I rather like it in fact."

The girls shared a look. Guess that settled it then. "Can you meet us outside? We need to figure this out," Lilly asked, finishing her coffee.

"Give us a couple minutes. I just woke up. I'm not a morning dragon," Onyx grumbled, earning a knowing nod from Orchid.

The two ponies took a few more minutes to clean up, before heading for the large meadow behind their house.

"I still say we should've slept in," Onyx grumbled, stretching her wing and leg for all they were worth.

Shimmer giggled as she took her mate's hand in her own her copper scales standing out next to Onyx's black scales. "Stop complaining dear. You're acting like a newborn wyrmling. I thought I mated with someone more mature than that."

Onyx pouted, before pulling their arms across their breasts. "You know how I am in the morning, Shimmy. I can't help it. Especially now of all times. This damn itch had better be important."

Simmer could feel the anger in the dragon she shared a body with, a feeling that she knew well. They were a rather unique pair, as they made their way to the front entrance of their lair. Not only did they share one body, one evenly split down the middle into black and copper scales, but they sported a pair of breasts, where no other dragons did.

There was also the fact that Shimmer was significantly older than her companion was. Even those who knew nothing about dragons could see the age difference between them. Neither knew why that was, or why they had been so attracted to each other. But neither of them cared in the slightest.

Looking down from the entrance, they could see the smoke rising from the distant village where Orchid and Lilly lived. Most ponies would have been terrified living so close to a dragon, let alone two of them. But the ponies here had long grown used to the pair and the connection they shared with the girls.

Jumping off the cliff, the duo aimed their flight towards a small cottage on the outskirts of the village, a wide-open meadow giving them plenty of room to land. They could already see that Orchid and Lilly were waiting for them, which was nice that they would not have to wait.

The sisters watched as their dragons came in for a landing, making sure to give them plenty of room as they landed. No matter how many times they saw it, or took part in it themselves, the sight always took their breaths away.

As Onyx and Shimmer landed, they leaned down so that they were snout to snout with their Dragon Knight. Orchid would always say that Onyx was more beautiful than Shimmer, no matter what Lilly might say. "Still no idea what this damn itch is?" She asked.

Onyx shook her head. "No. And this stupid thing is getting worse. No matter how much I itch it."

Shimmer nodded. "But now it feels like it is coming from someplace in particular. To the north, if I am not mistaken."

The girls shared a look. So it wasn't just them then. "Maybe it has something to do with Amber's return. She's with Princess Twilight right now," Lilly said. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to meet the newest Knight."

Shimmer and Onyx shared a look. Perhaps, as Orchid and Lilly touched their snouts, merging themselves with the dragons. Orchid with Onyx and Lilly with Shimmer. No matter how many times they did it, the feeling it gave them all was a pleasure, earning a moan from them all as Orchid and Lilly's heads formed on their dragons.

Without a word said between them, they took to the sky. "To Ponyville then?" Shimmer asked.

Lilly nodded, as she and her sister turned themselves to the north. "To Ponyville."

That was all they needed to hear. With a swift flap of their wings, the group headed north, heeding a call none of them understood, but one they could not ignore.

As they did so, they allowed their minds to flow back and remember how they had all come to be like this. What a trip those had been.
