Aria of Your Moonlit Mistress

The Mistress of The Night

You already knew that Princess Luna entrusted a being like you to be her own personal assistant but the reason why is still what makes you concerned.

The tall door separating the two of you makes all of your anxiety boil up remembering the power that she holds. One wrong screw up and you could be back down in the rundown dungeon or even worse. Being late to work wouldn't be your best impression to make on a member of royalty, you decide to take deep breaths and let all those feelings drift away into oblivion. Work time can be fun but since it's your 1st day the serious face needs to stay on at all costs.

Cautiously, you knock upon her door and await a response.

“Thou may enter thy chambers, we have been expecting thee.”

Her voice shook the stained glass windows through the hall and even made you lightheaded. You wondered if she was irritated, but on further inspection of your watch you were a few minutes earlier than expected.

A midnight blue glow consumed the door exposing the room's interior. The room looked quite similar to your own, the color of the walls were a darker shade of Luna’s coat and furnishings were black lined with silver. Mounted on the wall above her bed was a glimmering silver spear that looked like it could pierce the heavens themselves.

“I see that thou is amused by my spear, maybe one day we shall tell the tales of adventure we once had.” Luna said while eyeing you as your eyes wander the room.

“Excuse me your Highness, but why do you use the royal ‘we’ when you speak unlike your sister?”

Luna sighs, “I do apologize, we’ve been trying our best to learn to speak the common tongue but it just feels natural to speak that way.”

You walked closer toward her, placed your hand on her back and began to pet her. “It’s no big deal, even though I'm still getting used to saying everypony. Seems like we both already have a similar goal to work towards princess.”

As you remove your hand from her back, you hear her groan. “May I ask why thou decided to stroke our back just then?, back in the olden times, you’d be sent to death for doing so.”

“Uhm, I guess it felt like the proper thing to do at the time. Back home on earth, most people usually loved to pet ponies and such so it was just an unconscious reaction.”

“I see, do ask for permission next time, I am a princess after all. Now then let's get on with the explanation of your new post. I do believe this is thou's first time working with royalty based off the story you told?”

“Yes it is your highness, we did have them back home but it mainly was used as a title rather than a position of power.”

“So we shall now discuss all the title of Personal Assistant entails. You are expected to work at least five of seven days a week in the Royal Night Court taking down important notes and keeping me on-time to scheduled appointments. You shall perform tasks I have delegated towards you and your salary will be based on your performance. Any questions?”

The job seemed simple enough in your eyes but deep down you wondered why she still chose you. ”If I may ask Princess, Why have you chosen me over the hundreds of thousands of ponies at your own disposal?” Your voice quaked with unease but you really wanted this question answered to get it off your chest.

“Tis a simple answer, you’ve piqued my interest, we’ve never seen your kind before and it would be a waste to let you do simple menial work when your talents can shine elsewhere.”

She gave you a bit of closure but a small feeling deep down made you feel as if something else was still there. There was no point in dragging out what she was thinking so you decided it was best to leave it at that.

“Are you still there, dear assistant?”

Luna’s voice snapped you out of your daze.

“Yes Princess, Just lost in thought, nothing to be worried about.” Your mind was still trying to pick apart any other meanings in her words but to no avail.

“Very well, if there aren't further queries let us move to the royal courtroom to explain your tasks a bit more before you are dismissed.”

Luna walked towards the door signaling you to follow with a slight flick of her head. To be someone who was away from her duties for whatever reason she did seem quite confident with her actions.

The trip to the royal court was a bit of a trek since the castle’s interior was bigger than you actually thought. On route, you encountered quite a few others from breakfast that morning who began to smile and wave towards you. On one hand you thought they were finally warming up to you, but on the other it may just be them being courteous since one of their rulers was with you.

On arrival to the room, Celestia was seated upon her throne with a face that openly showed that she had enough. You know the face that people, and in this case a pony princess, would sport knowing that the next stupid thing they hear will cause a mental breakdown.

“Sister, may I ask what is the matter? You know we hate seeing you like this.” Luna pleaded.

The sheer sisterly love radiating from her almost made you forget to breathe. Those two were close to one another after all, you even thought that they could potentially end the world with their sisterly aura if they wanted.

Celestia was rubbing her hooves against her temples. “ Lulu, no need to be concerned, the nobles are still trying to push for a land plot to be offered in order to make a resort. The idea isn’t bad for the country's infrastructure, it's where they want it built that raises an alarm.”

Luna approached her and nuzzled her cheek to relieve some of her stress. “Let me take a guess, they want to use land from Sweet Apple Acres in order to build such facilities? Do they even have a clue that the Apple Family has been there since the founding of the place? Sure we have the executive power to do so, but they are as close to us as most noble families."

“And that’s where the problem lies, dearest sister, the noble ponies don’t appreciate them as apple farmers and consider them mere farm folk. I never gave them a clear answer but I doubt this will end anytime soon, I shall retire for the evening so I shall see you both later.”

A bright golden flash filled the room and she was gone leaving you and Luna together yet again.

“Now back to the matter at hand, since your main duties are to be based around my night court it will be for the best that you take note of any important events that transpire, I’m aware that our spoken and written languages are similar so ensure that your penmanship is tidy. Court isn’t in session today so you may ask me anything before you leave for the night.”

You fiddle with your fingers a bit thinking about anything but only the only thing on your mind was answered already.

“No your highness there I have no further questions”.

“Very well you are dismissed, I shall see you tomorrow evening my assistant may you have a good night.”

The door closed behind you as you began to enter another deep thought wandering the castle grounds wondering what the future entails as Luna's assistant.
