It could have been an office building anywhere in the world, except for the fact that it didn’t physically exist.
The language of dreams allowed the corridors of the high-rise to accommodate the Princess’ horse-like body, but that was the only concession to their existence that Mary had yet seen. It was a busy morning, with people going to and fro, phones going off, and conversations everywhere, but every person they encountered ignored the three of them. Celestia lead the way between the lines of glass-walled rooms with long, assured strides, as if she’d been there a hundred times before. Mary knew this was impossible, of course, but that was just like the Sun Princess. Someone like her was as comfortable in the dream of an alien as she was behind a podium at the UN. That was the strength of her natural bearing, her nature, and part of her attraction.
“It’s weird how generic this all is,” Mary said aloud as a business-suited woman on a phone stepped around her without even looking in her direction. “It’s like walking through a movie set version of an office. The view outside could be any city skyline, there’s no recognizable logos, and people just seem to be kind of…wandering about. I know I saw that guy pass us by three times in the last minute,” she said, gesturing to a suited man who seemed to be in a hurry to get nowhere.
Mary was wearing the same little black dress she’d worn a month ago, when she and Celestia had first consummated their relationship. Considering their purpose tonight, she needed something to set the mood, and her favorite party pleaser fit the bill nicely. Seemingly on cue, the woman tripped, splashing hot coffee everywhere, and Mary heard Julie gasp next to her. As the doctor expected, however, not a drop of the steaming liquid touched Celestia’s immaculate coat. It was as if fate conspired to keep the invaders completely separate from the rest of the dream world.
They walked right through the mess, doing their best to ignore the distraught woman as they entered a large, open floor plan area with chest-height cubicles all over. Mary could hear people speaking in the background, but she could only make out garbles instead of words. “I think we’re getting close,” Mary said in an attempt to keep from losing her nerve. “If Luna was right, the core will be in the boardroom just ahead. Not that I’m worried, but…she does remember the plan, right, Celestia?”
At that moment, a phone rang in a cubicle next to them, louder than before. A random desk jockey picked up the receiver and began to speak, but his voice was not his own.
“Do you still not trust me, Doctor?” Luna sounded even more peevish than usual, talking out of a random human throat. The man didn’t even look in her direction. “Is the countenance of my sister not enough to win your confidence?”
“Okay, that’s fucked up,” Julie said as she clung to Mary’s arm. “Luna? I’m sorry, but can’t you just show yourself? Do you have to do it like that?”
The group passed a pair in another cubicle, one woman sitting in front of a computer and another man perched on the desk, looking for all the world like they were deep in discussion.
“I’m afraid this operation is taking a significant portion of my power, and I have duties elsewhere,” the woman said to her companion, gesturing for emphasis.
“I can only manifest obliquely,” the man replied to the woman. “But don’t worry. I’m always watching, and I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Mary had no doubt Luna would watch the whole operation…very closely, using every angle at her disposal. It was her thing, after all.
The doctor heard Julie swallow thickly. “You didn’t tell me anything could happen, Night Mistress. Not that you…need to tell me anything…if you don’t think it’s necessary.”
Night Mistress? That was a new one. Celestia liked to share her toys, it seemed.
The Princess chuckled at Julie’s disquiet. “Be at peace, little pony. There are very few places in any world safer than where the Sun Princess and the Night Regent both happen to be, whether that’s Earth, Canterlot, or the dream of a human. My dear sister, in particular, is a professional at this kind of thing. She’ll do her job, and we’ll do ours, and we’ll all go home having done a good deed.”
“I think you’ll enjoy your part in particular,” Mary said, cupping Julie’s tight ass with one hand. She greatly enjoyed the resulting squeak. “Just relax.”
They approached a set of large, wooden double doors. Celestia stopped and looked at the polished brass handle, but she made no move to enter. Instead, she turned to address the others.
“Erin is waiting on the other side,” Celestia said carefully. “For now, all she knows is that she’s having a particularly vivid dream, and I don’t plan to disabuse her of that notion…not yet, anyway. Be careful of what you say, and just as importantly, be careful of what you hear .”
The Princess had an intense expression as she looked at both Mary and Julie in turn, ensuring she had their full attention. “We are performing surgery on the deepest part of Erin’s subconscious, and like a surgeon, we have to make sure we don’t let anything slip. Stick to your roles as much as you’re able, and do not repeat anything you hear tonight to the Erin in the real world. That would cause a whole other set of problems that I’d rather not deal with, and I’m sure the Night Regent feels the same.”
A man in an immaculate black suit passed behind them with his hands in his pockets and a wireless headset in his ear, and though his attention seemed to be elsewhere, he clearly spoke locally. “Cleaning up my sister’s messes is how I spend much of my time these days, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I need to do some tweaking afterward. That said, the Princess speaks truth. Have a care, but as long as you keep within the bounds we discussed, we should be fine. That means you, Doctor.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Mary said innocently. “I fucking love boundaries." There was something she wanted to try, but only if she could get away with it without screwing things up further. For now, she’d go along with the annoyingly good plan that the sisters came up with.
Celestia peered down at Mary, seeming to read her thoughts in that way of hers. “This isn’t a vacation, little pony. We’re doing this for Erin, to correct a mistake I made, and what we do will have definitive consequences. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, but I’ll say it anyway: take this seriously. Please.”
Julie clutched the doctor’s arm tighter. “Sun Mistress, I think you’re being too hard on Mary. She’s a doctor. She won’t do anything to hurt a patient. Will you?”
Mary chuckled at Julie’s innocence. “I’m not that kind of doctor, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Celestia, everything will be fine. You can trust me.”
Celestia stared at Mary for a few moments longer, as if she wanted to speak further, then she turned back to the door. “In that case, let us begin.”
Mary bit her lower lip, wondering if she sounded appropriately convincing. The Sun Princess was not someone you could blatantly lie to — and Mary wasn’t lying, not really — but sometimes she could get away with sins of omission. That part of Celestia was the same as any human: lovers tended to get the benefit of the doubt. It was a useful truism, but not one to be leaned on indefinitely.
Celestia touched one of the brass handles, and the double doors swung open silently without further force.
Inside the large boardroom, atop a floor of tiled marble, there sat a long wooden table, straight out of any AAA law firm or financial group’s highest levels. Mary took in the atmosphere as the group entered, and she was amused to note that, instead of tasteful paintings, the walls were adorned with what looked suspiciously like online porn webcam screenshots, blown up into painting size. Each was surprisingly, gratuitously detailed, more so than any photograph Mary had seen in the dream world yet, and every single one was girl/girl. The doctor smiled as she thought of how mortified Erin would be if she knew how deeply her subconscious had been invaded.
“If we didn’t know which side her bread was buttered on before, it’s obvious now,” Celestia muttered as she took her place at the near end of the table, with Mary and Julie flanking just behind. The doctor concurred. Honestly, she was digging the reporter’s sense of style.
“There you are, my old nemesis. I’m glad you could finally make it.”
Erin stood at the head of the long table, directly opposite Celestia. Her black and white dress suit was stunning, as was the mountain of pale cleavage and ass cheek bulging out of it. What was that, two sizes too small? Three? A single button strained against the front of her blazer, threatening disaster at any moment, but it held somehow. Erin pointedly glanced at her watch. Even from her viewpoint, Mary could tell from the sparkles that it would be worth more than her car had it been real. If there was any place to have aspirations, Mary supposed, it was in a dream.
“You’re a bit late, but maybe that’s the custom in your country,” Erin said acidly. “A word to the wise, Ms. Celestia: at this firm, we value punctuality. I would think you’d at least have some idea of the culture of the company you’re buying.”
Celestia nodded in greeting. “Hello, Ms. Taggart. I’ll take the nemesis thing as a compliment. But I do apologize for the tardiness; choosing which of my jets to ride is always such a hassle. To make up for wasting your time, at our next meeting I’ll fly you over to my homeland. If you’re interested in our customs, I can show you some personal Canterlot hospitality.”
“I’ll keep your gracious invitation in mind,” Erin said with a smile sheathed in steel. “Why don’t we get started? I wouldn’t want to keep you here overlong.”
“No doubt,” Celestia said, wearing her own flatly serene expression. “Before we begin, let me introduce you to my personal assistant, Julie.” She gestured to the young girl next to her with a hoof, who was currently giving Erin a look of distaste. “Her help has been invaluable to me during this process, and I can vouch for her…discretion.”
Erin gave the tiniest nod to Julie. “I’m impressed by your restraint. People like you usually have an army of assistants, but I can appreciate keeping as few people as possible in your confidence.” She snapped her fingers, and a blizzard of printed papers fluttered down from on high, looping and twirling before inexplicably landing into a neat stack before her.
Erin took her seat as she picked up the documents. “Let’s get right to it, then. All the regulatory hurdles were cleared last month, so the rest is more or less formality. At $5 billion as of today’s market closing, you’re getting quite the deal, if I may say so.”
So far, so good. Mary left her place at Celestia’s side and walked down the length of the room, her little black party dress wonderfully incongruous in the otherwise serious setting. Erin made no move to stop her, not even looking in her direction. She was as invisible to the woman as she was to every other phantom in the dream world, even here in the core of her imagination. Luna had done her job well.
Mary almost rubbed her hands in anticipation. This was going to be fun .

Erin leaned forward in her chair. “Does your assistant find market movements amusing, Ms. Celestia?”
Julie crossed her arms, positively radiating jealous annoyance. “Not as amusing as watching you sign over your life’s work to my Sun Mistress. But I shouldn’t be so crass. My apologies, Ms. Taggart .”
Erin’s brow furrowed in anger as she mouthed the words “Sun Mistress,” but the Princess stepped into the conflict with practiced ease. “Actually, she was just telling me on the way over that the share price had a bit of a rally, so I’m making out better than I expected.” Celestia shook her head, as if long-suffering. “Honestly, some days I have to tear her away from her Bloomberg Terminal. She’s a quant and a half, and I wouldn’t trade her for anything, but I’m afraid she does need to learn a little decorum.”
Celestia ran a gold-shod hoof up the back of Julie’s short, pleated skirt, then down between her legs, causing her to gasp. Casually, like she was playing with a desk toy, she spread the lower lips of her “assistant” as she worked her way deeper inside. The girl shuddered, and she bit her lip to keep from moaning.
“We’ll go over your punishment later,” Celestia said in a tone she might use for a small child. “But if you speak out of turn again, I’ll administer it right here and now. Is that clear?”
Julie nodded vigorously, and Celestia slowly drew her hoof from the girl’s soaked cunt before giving her a possessive slap on her rear. Julie’s eyes widened, but to her credit, she remained silent.
Mary looked on in satisfaction. They both were playing their parts well, though it didn’t take much acting. Erin relaxed, leaning back in her plush seat. “It looks like you have her well in hand, so I’ll say no more. Now, then. These papers need your signature, here and here.”
She took the top few sheets in the stack and tossed them toward Celestia. A strange breeze blew the papers to the other end of the table, and they tumbled through the air before drifting to a stop directly in front of the Princess.
Celestia stared at the papers, as if in thought, then she looked up at Erin. “I’m sure you won’t object if I take a last look at these, will you, Ms. Taggart? This is as good a time as any to catch any mistakes.”
Erin frowned within the decadent leather. “I don’t appreciate what you’re implying, but I suppose one can never do too much due diligence. By all means.”
As Celestia pretended to look through the contract details, Mary approached the seated Erin. Erin let out a polite cough that was only somewhat shaky. “I trust there are no problems with the contract, Ms. Celestia? I can assure you, my people were quite thorough.”
“You think you’re the heroine of this story, don’t you?” Mary whispered in Erin’s ear as she rolled those eraser-like nipples between her fingers.. “Well, you are. But every hero needs a villain.” The doctor made eye contact across the room with Celestia, who gave her a subtle nod.
“Here we go,” Mary rasped with a grin. “Let’s see what you’ve got.”
Celestia looked up with an appropriately concerned look on her face. “I’m afraid there’s a problem, Ms. Taggart. You’ve added a new clause to the contract.” She tapped one of the sheets with a hoof. “Are you seriously demanding a seat on the board? After we’re done, this won’t be your company anymore. That’s how a takeover works, in case you’d forgotten. Why would I allow this?”
As Erin leaned forward, Mary gently stroked the fingers that held her signing pen. She was gripping it tightly, but she hid her anger well otherwise.
“It’s a formality,” Erin said, almost keeping the hitch out of her voice as she tapped a spot on her copy. “That clause should have been there from the beginning, and it was a mistake to omit it. I ran this company for 20 years, Ms. Celestia. You can still use my experience.”
“Oh, I like that,” Mary murmured. “Deep inside, you know to play along.” The clause the two were talking about was nowhere in the vicinity of where Erin was pointing, which meant Celestia had made up the issue on the spot. Mary was impressed at how readily Erin’s mind adjusted, smoothly ad libbing to the Princess’ act, although for the character the reporter was playing, none of this was an act at all. The brain was a strange machine indeed.
Celestia’s response to Erin was a was brutally mocking laugh, one that Mary hadn’t heard before. She hoped it would never be pointed in her direction. “Oh my. Bless your delusional little heart. If your experience was worth a damn, little pony, you wouldn’t be in this situation. No, this simply won’t do.”
The Princess lifted the offending leaf of paper and then, keeping eye contact with Erin, she ripped it cleanly in half. Mary would’ve sworn the tearing sound was magically enhanced from the way it took over the room. The statement was as crystal as the spires of Canterlot.
“Did you really think a technicality would work on someone like her?” Mary asked as she nuzzled Erin from behind, rubbing her face in the reporter’s bright red hair. “Mmm, what a cheap fucking gambit. That was a mistake, girl. You’re showing weakness. And I think you know what Celestia does to the weak.”

Mary relished Erin’s sharp intake of breath, and Celestia allowed herself a tiny smile at the reaction. “Very good, Julie. Your punishment has been lightened.”
“…Thank you, Sun Mistress.” She seemed oddly disappointed as she took a respectful step backward.
Celestia put her hooves under her chin, using her intense gaze to full effect. “Little pony. Little filly . I’ve been making business deals since long before your parents were born. I was a billionaire ten times over while you were sucking dick to save your GPA at Wharton. What I’ve forgotten about making money would have Warren Buffet creaming his trousers, and that’s impressive at his age. You dare talk to me about your industry, you useless cunt? I could destroy everything you’ve built with a tap of a hoof, and I’d barely feel it on my balance sheet. Don’t fuck with me.”
Speaking Lies and Breaking Down

Don’t take her shit. If you back down now, Celestia will own your soul.”
She paused, letting the critical moment linger. “Is that what you want, Erin?”
“No. It’s not.”
The words struck Mary like a bolt of lightning, and she froze in momentary panic. Erin’s subconscious was listening, of course — Mary wasn’t talking just to hear herself speak — but the subject wasn’t supposed to be aware of those outside the scenario. Did Luna screw up, or was Erin’s new conviction so strong it temporarily drew Mary into her story?
The doctor waited for the scream of indignation and the shove away, but they never came. The woman said no more as she continued to ignore Mary otherwise, only taking a deep breath before putting on a sneer. She never once took her eyes from Celestia.
Mary waved a hand in front of Erin’s eyes, trying and failing to provoke a further reaction. She guessed it was the conviction after all, which was encouraging. Mary decided to just roll with it and see where it might lead.
Her lips touched Erin’s ear again. “If that’s not what you want, Erin, then let her know. Fuck her up.”
Erin stepped forward again, placing her palms on the table as she glared across the room. “You will give me the respect I am due, vulgar beast. You have no idea how hard I’ve worked to get to where I am.” Mary detected only a slight quaver in her response, which was better than expected.
“That’s it,” Mary hissed. “She doesn’t bitch you out, you bitch her out.”
“I don’t care how experienced you think you are,” Erin went on, gaining confidence as Celestia remained silent. “Do you want a medal for being elderly? We don’t play by the rules of the old guard here. I made my first billion by being adaptable, learning how to sail with the tides and plot my own course, and those values are ingrained into every part of our corporation. Ideas about business from decades ago are not going to fly. If you don’t understand that, then you might as well be tossing your money into a bonfire.”

Retire early. Buy a sports team. Go to space. Or prove me wrong by starting up a competitor. I truly, deeply don’t care what you do, but it won’t be on this company’s payroll.”
The Princess opened eyes full of cunning. “To be perfectly honest, I’d considered asking you to stay on as a consultant. I was going to bring it up after we signed, but your lack of judgment in trying to fuck me over has firmly scuttled those plans. You have a saying in this country…something about ‘dodging a bullet,’ I believe? I may be using the phrase wrong.”

“She’s trying to end the argument on her terms,” Mary whispered. “And she’s insulting you on her way out. Don’t let her do either. We’ll be tied up in court for years, while all the opportunities you could have taken advantage of pass you by. And if that doesn’t work, I have influential friends at the highest levels of government. Good luck trying to stay competitive while you’re dealing with legislation that just happens to target your business.”
