The alarm on his phone let out a terrible repetitive sound to wake up the sleeping fifteen year old boy lying in bed. A hand hit the alarm and slowly sat up in his bed to look at the time on his phone.
7:00 AM
Yep, it was time for him to get out of bed and get ready for his first day of high school. He was now a freshman at Canterlot High.
He got out of bed, got dressed, and looked at himself in the mirror.
Spike Drake was a average boy with budding handsome features in his face, a slim build, green eyes, and spiky green hair. He threw on a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a purple hoodie. He put on a pair of black sneakers and went downstairs to have breakfast.
He went into the kitchen and made himself a bowl of cereal. As he sat down and ate, he heard a musical humming sound coming from outside the kitchen window. Turning his head to the window, he sees something no on else can see. Well, no one human.
It was a small figure about five inches tall and wore no clothing. The figure was humanoid in shape and had no discernable sex, with rounded hips, pointed ears, and large solid-colored eyes that were ruby in color. Its feet were scaly like a bird's. Its head was covered with bright green feathers and its back sported wings like a hummingbird. The figure smiled at Spike, who returned the smile.
"Hey, Drake! How are you, today?" the figure asked in a high-pitched voice.
"I'm just getting ready for my first day of high school, Melody," Spike replied.
The figure, Melody, entered the house and sat on the table next to the cereal bowl. Due to Melody's lack of mammalian genitals, Spike couldn't figure out what sex they were and he was too shy to ask that kind of question.
Melody smiled flirtatiously at Spike. "See something about me you like?"
Spike looked away with his cheeks on fire. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!"
"It's fine. Feeling shame isn't a thing for me. In case you were wondering, I am female. I just have a cloaca like a hummingbird" Melody said.
Spike turned to her and raised an eyebrow. "What's a cloaca?"
"Imagine everything coming out of one spot. Birds and most reptiles have them," Melody replied.
"Oh," Spike said in response.
Spike finished the rest of his cereal and retrieved something for Melody. He fished around in the pantry for a bottle of apple juice. He unscrewed the cap and presented it to Melody.
"Thanks, Spike! Have a good day!" Melody said as she drank the apple juice.
"You too, Melody!" Spike replied before running out the door to walk to school.
Spike Drake walked down the sidewalk to get to Canterlot High as he lived pretty close by to it. As he walked, more and more students walked near him as they shared the same commute. Spike turned to see just how many of them were human.
The closest person he saw wasn't. To everyone around him, he would look like a normal teenage boy. But to Spike, he saw a creature with red skin, pointed ears, claws, and fangs. The girl he was talking to was perfectly human. Spike turned to the left and saw a girl that had clawed feathery wings and scaly feet.
Fae. Both the guy and the girl were Fae, from what Spike had found out. And Spike could see them, even if they were in human form. Spike couldn't explain why he could see the Fae, but this was his normal. The only annoying thing about this ability is that he can't turn it off.
The Fae were magical creatures and entities that either lived among humans or away from humans. Some of them were friendly, while others didn't like humans at all. Since the Fae were a mixture of nature and magic, lots of Fae species had plant or animal characteristics.
Spike had done so much research into the Fae that he could recognize different species instantly. The guy he saw was a Hobgoblin and the girl to his left was a Harpy.
Melody is a River Sprite, a Fae species that like to live near sources of water. They can bring good luck to humans if humans feed them.
Spike walked until he could see the school building in the distance. It was an average-looking school building with two stories. He walked through the front doors and stopped to look at his class schedule.
The first class he had was History. The History class was in Room 204 and his teacher was Ms. Fleur. He walked up the stairs and made his way to the classroom.
From what Spike could see, half of the students in the class were Fae. Some of them looked less human to him than others, but he could tell that these Fae were no threat to humans.
He found a seat next to the window and sat down. Hopefully, he'll enjoy his first day at this new school.
After the bell rang, a beautiful woman walked into the room. She was a Fae in human form. Spike's vision and knowledge of the Fae identified her as a Leannan-sidhe. Leannan-sidhe were an all-female vampiric species of Fae that used their magic to enhance someone's talents in exchange for feeding on their blood.
Ms. Fleur was supposed to look like an average human woman, but Spike saw pale skin, dark blue hair, red eyes, pointed ears, fangs, and claws. Either as a human or in her true form, Ms. Fleur was a beauty. She wore a black business coat, a white button-up undershirt, black leggings, and black boots.
"Good morning, everyone! My name is Ms. Fleur de Lis. I will be your History teacher starting today," she greeted with a fanged smile on her face.
Yeah, this new high school career of mine is certainly going to be interesting, Spike thought.
Spike, the boy who can see the Fae, is going to have his entire world turned upside down pretty soon.
