Union of Survival
The Planetary Preparation [Landfall Part I]
Previous ChapterHumans are warriors, they scrapped, they killed, and they created. The homosapien scraped the bottom of the barrel in all conceivable ways against the other human species of the times that are long gone, even as all of them were stronger, faster, and harder to kill. But the modern day human race prevailed through knowledge, and their power in this day and age stems from it, to up in space to retreat to the depths of the Mariana Trench, the Old Asia to the New World. Then from the dawn of steam, the production line to the ultimate war machines of the Atom. Before it, the dawn of the barter, the first bread baskets and gardens of mother agriculture itself, civilization was born. And only then, the world had its prime candidate for its success, and they wrought its annihilation.
With cobalt and radiation the world burned, withered at its delicate forests, life, and all in between. The elites and controllers watch from far away bunkers, and with defunct control of themselves, they vomit, faint, weep, and thoughtlessly take their own lives as all of the Soviet, European, Chinese, American, and whoever else’s nuclear bombs without fail, vaporize all the many lucky enough to die first. Families of NORAD Operators, friends, and enemies are quickly devastated, burnt, tossed, and pulverized whether on the frontlines of the recently started conventional war, or their homes with their children, wives, and husbands in their arms.
They look to the black and thinly colored big screens, helpless as each symbol means that your mothers and sons are dismembered and melted, looking across the street, like in Hamburg, the first stricken city of the nuclear escalation, or as their beloved, or hated politicians not already airborne die alongside their fellow man.
Those same survivors now have a chance to leave their home, but the human race adapted and then started to thrive in the post nuclear devils anvil. They surely will survive whatever awaits in whatever new world. We have survived all history has thrown at us, this, though different, must be remembered one way or another, it will be, as there is no other choice.
Hans-Lothar Domröse was one of the survivors, the man is a former NATO Field Marshall and has transferred to be the Chief of Staff of the European Army. Europe’s new Marshall had been put in charge of all forces of the UEN Army and their evacuation of the planet, the massive sheet was moving faster than any scientist could’ve predicted. Due to the time constraints, what was seen as a slow and steady progress had been fast tracked by command of the Federal Council, the group had formed sometime before the portal was deemed fully operational by a half BND Operative Wilhelm Fass, a personal friend of the Marshall.
Technology, like in all major wars, had fast-tracked considerably on a scale not seen in history, the remaining population had the internet up and running on a scale that would’ve matched the time of 1998, and they had accomplished this in less than 3 years. Mass wealth's of knowledge before the war, libraries and all, were put onto internet sites Widely accessible to the people of the three main countries left. This was not without its issues though, as many have pointed out, the Soviet KGB have tried unsuccessfully to change the civilian owned E-Libraries properties, and change information to cause mass defection of Eastern European people, but this time communism had no grip on the people’s throats.
With all these out the way of the wandering mind of the European, Domröse had informed by radio all divisional commanders of the 13 active mechanized, tank and motor rifle divisions that the 20 or so Kilometers of the land area of the portal was given the green light by Federal Council to charge into the unknown. After this happened, first wave of a total of over twenty-six million of the last of the Europeans, excluding many of the British, and Finish peoples and their governments who had been given heads up that mainland European BND had made a crystal portal, were to cross the portal no matter what. All of which in a massive convoy of trucks with houses, materiel, and humans attached, but of course, much of the heavy lifting of the material would be done by of the other branches.
This other branch is the one that, with the merchant navy by its sides, has held trade routes together, destroyed the Soviet navy, and has fared the acidic green, cobalt and radioactive seas tirelessly. They were the men and women who has vomited and sweated, sacrificed and endured their way across the Mediterranean our food, medicine and resources needed to save society from collapse. The men and women of the Grande Navy stood at attention across the hundreds of combat and cargo ships, loaded to the absolute brim in the 20 or so kilometer section of the portal accessible to the navy.
European submarines, hardened to the point where it would be called futuristic by many, patrol the perimeter, their crews, some of the best of the best, are on DEFCON 1 equivalents of high alert, as Soviets have claimed that the “European attempts to use a portal will be thwarted!” by military force. Bordeaux and Bilbao class Ballistic Missile Submarines alongside a full twelve of the remaining Brussels class Attack Submarines sit behind the massive formation, so far back and going so slow to conserve the last fuel they will be resupplied with until landfall on the other world was made that they all risked not making it to the portal in time, a horrid prospect.
But before the orders were even given out, all of the specially selected crew’s were allowed time in the previous weeks to say potential goodbyes to their families. The crew of each ship know what can await them, trapped underwater in freezing 4 kilometer high glaciers is one of the many possibilities, not just for them, but for the many worldwide unable to make it to a military site with their surviving companions. All of which would, as a sole Swiss scientist put it, “-sentenced to artic damnation, to be crushed, meet the afterlife in many ways only the species who passed in, and with the ice ages would know, to face the cold reality of adapting to your own species destruction and your own abandonment.”. Only one other path remained for all the men, women and children still left after our portal would shut, the survivalist instinct like all men had before, and after, and may need to retain in the fresh new world.
Author's Note
This is part 1, the full will combine this chapter and the second part, in a bit, and they combined will be 4K words long, the other 10+ chapters I plan on making will be 7K words. ...Unless... I get so good I can make 10K chapters
.... until then....
Do not let the lights turn off across all of Eurasia, for seldom we will see them again in our lifetimes...
