Unicorn Attack!
Strawberry
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSunny took a second to wipe the sweat from her brow as she washed her hooves and started prepping the next smoothie that had been ordered by the next customer in a line of very hot, worried earth ponies, who were currently cleaning their homes and business of a very unexpected overnight growth of plants.
She was probably going to be sold out of most of her ingredients by just after lunch, and Fifi's next delivery was still a day away, so her supply chain issues had not been solved just yet.
Sadly, she had already heard some whispers of it being due to unicorn magic, and saw some patrons keeping their distance from unicorn visitors. There wasn't much she could do about it at the moment; she had customers to serve, a new home to continue furnishing, and a public broadcasting studio to continue help putting together. Plus, the last she heard from Hitch ten minutes ago that was he might possibly be on the trail of something promising as he was headed out to the outskirts of town to give Posey Bloom another visit.
If they didn't have answers, well, Zipp was just over by the lighthouse area in the hills outside of town investigating the tree that had interrupted the camp-out. Perhaps she could find something.
Speaking of which, three of the campers who had already been through quite the ordeal were next in line.
"Good morning, Seashell. And it was Glory and Peach Fizz, right? I heard you three had quite the exciting night camping," Sunny greeted. "What can I get started for you?"
"Three Strawberry Delights, please!" Seashell replied, reaching up and putting a 10-bit coin onto the counter, and pushed it towards the mare.
Sunny's cheerful demeanor faltered for a moment as she glanced back at her available ingredients.
"Hmm, I might only have enough strawberries to make two. Can I interest one of you in something else?" She asked as she turned back to her young customers.
Rather than answer, Seashell's eyes widened before she turned and bolted down the street at a full gallop towards her house down the block. Glory and Peach Fizz glanced at each other before shrugging.
"Alright, well, two I guess," Glory said.
Sunny went about making two of her best-selling smoothies, and within a minute, had them blended and poured into a pair of cups.
"Alright, that comes to..." Sunny started, but trailed off when she saw that Glory's and Peach's attention had been pulled down the street again, their eyes wide and expressions dumbfounded. When she looked over and saw Seashell coming back over pulling a wagon, her expression quickly matched theirs.
In Seashell's wagon, was a strawberry as big as Sunny's head.
"Is this enough? You can have it, Sunny!" Seashell said, as Peach Fizz and Glory came over to help her get it out of the wagon and pushed it up onto Sunny's counter. "The strawberries in our garden completely flipped out overnight, along with all the other plants in town. This is our biggest one."
Sunny managed to compose herself, looking at the strawberry that was the same size as the biggest pumpkins she had ever seen in her life.
"Seashell, I couldn't possibly accept..." She started, but the filly wouldn't hear it.
"Are you kidding, Sunny? If it weren't for you, I would have never gotten the chance to meet these two!" The earth filly said, motioning to her two new friends. "I can't think of anypony else that could possibly put that huge berry to use before it spoils," Seashell told her.
Part of Sunny wanted to argue more, but figured that Seashell's reasoning was sound as she pulled on the berry with both hooves, getting it off of the serving counter and onto her cutting board.
"Alright, well, in that case..." Sunny said, pushing the 10-bit coin back to the fillies. "These three are on the house, and however many I can make with this thing will be as well, I'll happily keep a tally."
Sunny grabbed her chef's knife, and began to cut the gargantuan strawberry into manageable sections, getting cubed chunks put into plastic bags and and into the coolers behind her. Once that was done, and her entire prep area was positively dripping with strawberry juice, she presented the trio with their order.
"Attention, everypony! Due to an unexpected supply boon, all Strawberry Delights are half-off until further notice!"
She heard murmurs of unexpected pleasure as several in her line of customers were now considering changing their order. Even at half-price, strawberries were one of her highest expenses, so with Seashell's gift, her profits would be relatively unchanged for however long the berry lasted.
As Seashell, Peach Fizz, and Glory trotted away with their now empty wagon, happily slurping at their beverages, Sunny got barely a moment to wipe down her cutting board before the next customer came up. She'd definitely need to do a once over with a bucket of hot soapy water and more than a few rags to ensure that the entire prep area wouldn't be sticky.
Not to mention continuing to look like a murder scene out of a horror movie.
