The new personal assistant of the King of Crystoria
Author: I have to point out that this is my first MLP: FiM fanfiction. So helpful comments are always appreciated! I will try to update at my best.
Chapter 1:
The offer
Normally, Spike would be busy with doing various tasked assigned by his mother figure, Twilight Sparkle. But on certain days, he will be given a day off. And during those days, Spike will spend the early morning at Ponyville's famouse café enjoying a cup of chocolate mousse and reading the newspaper. After the meal, he would go to the marketplace for his own personal means and return to Twilight's library to spend the rest of the day, or Rarity's house, in an attempt to win her heart.
“Good morning sir, what would you like today?” A waiter greeted Spike. Spike returned the greeting and gave his order.
“Good morning, one chocolate mousse please.” The waiter wrote his order down on a piece of paper and bowed.
“Of course, sir. Will there be anything else?” The waiter asked. Spike smiled back and spoke.
“None.”
“Then one chocolate mousse for the morning. You might have to wait a little longer than usual sir. The café is surprisingly packed today.” The waiter informed.
“That's okay. I got the newspaper.” Spike raised the newspaper rolled in his grip. As the waiter left, somepony eyed Spike from a distance. A brief moment later, the waiter returned with a glass of chocolate mousse and set it down on the table, which has a mushroom-like design. The waiter bowed and repeated.
“One chocolate mousse, anything else sir?”
“None. Enjoy your day.” Spike smiled politely. The waiter bowed and left to attend to another group of ponies. Spike grabbed the spoon and scooped a spoonful of chocolate and neared it to his watering mouth. Before he could taste the mouth watering chocolate, a thick, masculine voice spoke right beside him.
“May I sit?” Spike ate the spoonful and pivoted his head to the left, meeting an earth pony covered in a brown trench coat wearing a matching brown fedora, tilted downwards, covering his eyes.
Spike wondered if he knew this stranger. Obviously, he could just take another table. Spike looked around the café and noticed that every table and seat was taken. The only empty seat left is the one across him. He turned to the stranger and allowed him to sit, out of courtesy, although a little reluctant. After all, he came to the café to relax, but now he's feeling a bit uneasy with somepony sharing the table.
“May I know your name?” The stranger asked.
“Name's Spike. What's yours?” Spike asked the same question.
“Black. Black Ounce. Thank you for the seat Spike.”
“Your welcome.” Spike resumed reading the newspaper at the same time taking scoops of his chocolate mousse. Black Ounce tapped one of his hoof on the table.
“Pardon me, but I'm here to deliver a message. Please read this letter.” Black Ounce placed an envelope on the table and neared it to Spike. Spike looked at the letter and raised his eyebrow.
“You're a mailstallion?” Spike asked. Black Ounce nodded and informed.
“Yes, though I prefer to be called a messenger. This is an important letter. I recommend you read it now, for it's written by the ruler of the Crystoria Kingdom.”
“The ruler of Crystoria?” Spike said with a surprised look. Spike ripped open the envelope immediately and unfolded it's content. On the letter reads -
Dear Spike, assistant of Princess Celestia's student, Twilight Sparkle,
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have chosen you to be my new personal assistant. I've searched high and low and found that you are a fitting candidate for this occupation. If you are as multi-talented as Twilight Sparkle said, then I look forward to your reply, with a 'yes'.
Yes or no, I require a reply in thirty days, or I will seek another candidate.

“Wow. Me? His personal assistant?” Spike questioned. Black smiled and held out one of his hoof, intending on shaking Spike's hand, and acknowledged him.
“Ah, so you are the one that has been chosen to replace me. Congratulations Spike, it is such an honor which you should take.” Upon hearing this, Spike realized who the messenger really is, and shook his hoof gratefully.
“Replace you? You are the king's assistant?” Spike spoke astonishingly. Black brought a hoof up and pushed the front of his fedora up, revealing his brown eyes.
“Used to. I'm quitting my position in hopes of achieving something more.... personal.” Black indicated his reason and continued
“But you should say yes. Assisting the king in his daily ruckus is probably the best career you could ever have.” Black tried to encourage Spike, with a hint of sarcasm, to accept the offer. After all, he didn't want to be stuck in a tree again, just to take the king's kite. Spike, on the other hand, was thinking of the two words mentioned; daily ruckus. He decided to ask.
“Daily ruckus? You mean the king slipped on a block of butter?” Spike joked, which Black laughed to.
“How did you know?” Black asked with a surprised voice. Spike, surprised too, laughed along, and asked.
“Really? How did that happen?” Black only shrugged.
“So... How is it like, to be the king's assistant?” Spike asked. Black tapped his hoof on his chin for a brief minute before responding.
“It goes like this...” Black moved his hooves around the air, like trying to conjure an imaginative scribble of lines overlapping each other. He saw that Spike couldn't understand so he described it with one word.
“Confusing. You have no idea how frustrating it –, I mean fun! How fun it is to be his assistant!” Black spoke, this time with a more obvious sarcastic tone. Black brought up one of his foreleg and stared at it as though there was a watch. Realizing how much time the conversation has taken up, Black quickly took out a piece of paper, a quill and ink bottle from under his trench coat and placed them down on the table. Resuming official behavior, he spoke.
“Here is the form where you either sign 'yes' or 'no'.” He said as he tapped his hoof on two dotted lines at the bottom corners of the paper. Spike gripped the quill and was about to sign the 'yes' space but hesitated, before asking a question.
“May I take this back with me? Ya know, I need some time to think.” Black nodded in approval but informed him of a few more details.
“But if you sign today, I can send it back to King Graham for you, free of charge. Otherwise, you will have to find somepony else to do it for you.”
“I can handle that.” Spike spoke.
“Then I'll be going.” Black got up from his seat and gave a light bow to Spike and thanked him for the hearty conversation before leaving the Café.
Tis' a short chapter, but we will try to update with a longer chapter in the future.
