Wednesday (Again)

Wednesday.
Oh Celestia, Wednesday.
Tea time again.
You swallow, your spit catching in your throat. You can feel the tension in your shoulders, your eyes scanning the room around you for any signs of movement.
Inside the cupboards. Clear.
On top the fridge. Clear.
Behind the counter. Clear.
Beneath the table.
Slowly—hesitantly—you cast your gaze downwards.
The tiled kitchen floor stares back at you from beneath your chair.
You sigh in relief.
Clear.
You shake your head, the tension in your shoulders fading slightly.
Was this what it felt like to go insane?
This was probably what it felt like to go insane.
You sigh.
When you’d been released from the Ponyville Hospital, you hadn’t expected that things would turn out like this.
Sure, what had happened last week had been...traumatizing...but surely...surely there’d been some sort of mistake? Some error in your judgment? Some angle or reasoning you hadn’t considered?
You shake your head again.
The plan had been to sit down with Pinkie Pie and resolve the matter as soon as you got back. To put things straight. To confirm whether or not what you had thought had...happened...had really happened at all.
You swallow, your eyes starting on another circuit around the kitchen.
The thing was: you hadn’t seen the pink party mare since coming home three days ago.
No note. No message. No call on the phone. Sugarcube Corner had simply been empty upon your arrival, no sign of the poofy haired mare in sight.
You swallow again.
In sight.
Your other senses were another story.
Giggles that seemed to echo through the house at night. The scent of bread and baked goods wafting up from the kitchen in the morning. The faint warmth of somepony’s hooves on the backrest of the chair as you hesitantly sat down to eat the breakfast left out for you.
You didn’t know what kind of game she was playing, but Pinkie Pie was still here, alright. The fact she’d managed to go three days without getting caught in your line of sight was hard to believe, but knowing what sorts of crazy things the pink pony could do if she put her mind to it, you knew she was capable of it.
You run a palm down the side of your face.
Not surprisingly, sleep hadn’t come easy the last few nights. Even after sleeping in to make up for it, it was difficult to roll out of bed in the morning. Your dreams were full of more quiet giggles. Phantom sensations of pink mares slinking around beneath your covers. You felt exhausted. Drained.
You scratch at the back of your neck, glancing up at the clock.
12:23. Twilight would be here for the party soon.
You lace your fingers together, setting them on the table.
You weren’t sure how to face her after last time. You can already feel your face growing warm at the thought. Celestia forbid she try to talk to you directly—at this point you weren’t even sure you’d be able to respond.
You lean forward, resting your forehead on your thumbs.
Gah. This was torture. Why was Pinkie hiding from you in the first place? At the very least, some closure on that front would help you maintain some level of composure.
You shake your head dimly back and forth.
Man, all this agonizing was making you thirsty.
Pushing up from the table, you make your way over to the fridge, sighing as you pull open the door. The frosty air inside is pleasantly cool against your flushed face.
Glancing over the shelves, you frown, clicking your teeth.
Aside from eggs, butter, and a few odd vegetables, it’s mostly empty. Thursdays were usually shopping days, after all.
Glancing down at the bottom shelf, you can see a small pitcher filled with orange liquid. Your eyes drifting over to the sink, you can see a juicer sitting in the small pile of dishes to be washed, a few orange rinds caught in its teeth.
You shrug.
You weren’t much in the mood for juice, but it would do. Pinkie Pie and you shared the grocery bill anyways—she wouldn’t mind if you helped yourself to a little of her own freshly squeezed.
You roll your eyes as you grab a cup from the top shelf, pouring yourself a glass.
If anything, it was the least she could do, given what she’d put you through the last couple days.
You set the pitcher back in the fridge, closing the door behind you. With another sigh, you crack your neck, lifting the glass to your lips.
Seriously, where was she, anyways? Twilight would be here any minute. Even if this was an elaborate prank of some sort on her end, it wasn’t like her to miss a party date with her friends.
You take a sip from the glass.
“Phhththbhbhthh!”
You immediately do a spit take, an orange mist erupting from your mouth as it sprays across the counter and cupboards below. You can feel your eyes water as you attempt to keep from choking, the flavor on your tongue sending your taste buds reeling.
“Sweet!…*cough cough*…sweet!…why so…*cough*…sweet!?”
You run your tongue along the underside of your teeth, wincing as you feel the grit of sugar collecting between them. The taste of orange is there—vaguely—but almost completely overpowered by an almost numbing sweetness. The consistency of the liquid in your mouth is more like corn syrup than juice, your sense of taste still trying to wrap its head around the flavor it just experienced.
Coughing into your sleeve once more, you set the glass down on the table, hanging your head.
What kind of juice was that?
You knew Pinkie Pie liked sweet things, but that…that was dangerous.
You shake your head.
Never again.
You push off from the table, wiping your mouth against your sleeve.
Now, what were you doing again? It felt like you were forgetting something.
Jingle-jing. Jingle-jing.
“Pinkie? Anon? It’s Twilight. Are you two here?”
Your eyes widen.
Shit. 12:30. Tea time.
You turn toward the kitchen door, your shoulders tensing as your elbow immediately clips the glass at your side in the process.
“Shit!”
You fumble for the glass, your eyes widening further as you find yourself stumbling forward toward the floor. Fingers closing around the glass, you bring your arms up to shield your head, landing heavily against the floor with a dull thud.
“Gugh…”
Wincing, you let out a faint groan, the bruises on your shoulders and arms from your last fall pulsing with pain. A few hooves ahead of you, you can hear a worried gasp, the sound of hoofsteps rushing to your side a moment later.
“Anon? Are you alright?”
Cracking open an eye, you glance up from the floor, your blurry vision slowly reasserting itself. Framed against the lights of the ceiling, you can see the figure of a lavender unicorn staring down at you, a concerned look on her face beneath her purple-and-magenta-striped mane.
Twilight.
You immediately feel your expression stiffen, your eyes darting around the room. You realize you’d managed to stumble forward all the way onto the sales floor, your prone form now splayed out in front of the display case beneath the register. Your gaze doesn’t waver for long, however, as your eyes quickly find themselves drawn back to the purple mare staring down at you.
“—Twi—Twi—”
Your tongue immediately turns to taffy, your words rolling off of it like marbles as you try to speak. You can see Twilight shake her head, a faint hum radiating from her horn as a pinkish light surrounds it. You can feel a faint tingle against your skin as you find yourself lifted into a sitting position, the sensation of a hoof coming to rest on your shoulder a moment later.
“Are you alright, Anon? How many hooves am I holding up?”
Your eyes widen as Twilight’s expression fills your field of vision, your gaze shifting down toward the floor. You can vaguely see the mare holding out her other forehoof, waving it side to side in front of you.
You shake your head, forcing yourself to reply.
“Um...one?”
A relieved sigh escapes Twilight's muzzle, the tension in the hoof on your shoulder fading somewhat.
“Oh good. I was worried I would have to go get Nurse Redheart again.”
Slowly, you glance back up, your eyes coming to meet those of the purple mare smiling back at you.
“You need to be more careful, Anon. What would Mr. and Mrs. Cake do if you got hurt while they were away on their vacation?”
You can see her warm smile widen a bit as she brushes a lock of her dark mane from her eyes. You can feel your own cheeks grow warm at the sight, your proximity to her here at eye level making it difficult to hold her gaze.
“Sorry...I kind of...tripped.”
You wince as the words leave your mouth, chiding yourself internally.
Making another great impression, as always.
You shake your head.
Why was it you only managed to show Twilight your lamest, clumsiest side when she was around? Did somepony have it out for you? Had you picked up some kind of curse since finding your way into this magical land of Equestria?
You don’t have much time to ponder that line of thought as Twilight closes her eyes, chuckling as she brings a hoof to her muzzle.
“I figured that was the case. Spike does the same thing sometimes, too. It must be difficult walking around on just two legs all the time. Looks like Pinkie Pie and I have you beat, there.”
For a brief moment, you can feel the tension in your shoulders melt away, your gaze transfixed on the amused expression of the mare before you.
It really wasn’t fair how cute she was at times like this. A poor sap like you didn’t stand a chance.
You can feel the haze retreat somewhat as Twilight opens her eyes once more, tilting her head to the side.
“Speaking of Pinkie Pie—where is she? I haven’t seen her since I came in.”
“Pinkie Pie…”
You murmur the pink pony’s name, your eyes going wide as the situation before you settles back into the forefront of your mind.
That’s right. Tea time. The whole reason Twilight was here in the first place.
Your eyes dart around the room.
Usually Pinkie Pie would be bounding down the stairs right about now, a stream of confetti bursting out from her party cannon. Where was she? Like you’d said before, she wasn’t the type to miss a party with her friends.
Your gaze settling back on Twilight, you struggle to meet the mare's eyes.
“Um…I’m not…sure. Maybe she went out to pick up some more…um…party supplies?”
You can see Twilight let out a small sigh, bringing a hoof to her brow.
“Oh Pinkie Pie, what are we going to do with you? I told her she didn’t have to worry so much if it was just a small get together with friends.”
You can see the unicorn tilt her head to the side again, flashing you another small smile.
“But I guess that’s what makes Pinkie Pie, Pinkie Pie. She always goes that extra step to put a smile on everypony's face.”
Another small pang lances through your chest.
This mare. It really wasn’t fair.
Doing your best to hide the blush in your cheeks, you shift your gaze back to the surrounding room, scratching absently at your neck.
You were at a loss here. You hadn’t expected Pinkie Pie not to show up. What were you going to do now? With just you and Twilight here, it was almost like the two of you were on a—
Your heart stops in your chest.
Oh no.
Pinkie Pie—she hadn’t intentionally—
“Oh! It looks like you and Pinkie must have got things set up already.”
“Set up?”
Turning back to Twilight, you follow the mare’s gaze, lifting an eyebrow in confusion as you take in the sight of the small booth at the foot of the stairwell.
The small nook there has been dressed up a bit, bright streamers and balloons lining the seats and candy-cane archway of the landing. You can see trays of different desserts—cakes, cookies, ice cream, and everything in between—set out in a wide display at the table’s center, the scent of freshly baked pastries now just reaching your nose for the first time.
You blink in confusion, your other eyebrow joining the first.
What was going on here? That hadn’t been here when you walked downstairs twenty minutes ago.
Again though, you find yourself with little time to process the thought as you see Twilight turn, nodding toward the booth with another smile.
“Come on, Anon! Let’s take a seat. I’m sure Pinkie Pie will catch up with us eventually.”
Before you can respond, you can see the mare trot off, eyes closed as she hums a happy tune to herself. Finding yourself frozen in place, you shake your head, trying to snap yourself out of it.
Think, Anon, think.
If the table was all set up like that, that meant Pinkie Pie was around here somewhere. Probably watching the two of you, knowing her. You just had to make it clear to her that a surprise date with Twilight was a little much for you and things would be better if she joined in on the festivities as well.
That wouldn't be too hard of a sell, would it? Parties were Pinkie Pie's life after all.
You swallow, steeling yourself as you push off the floor. You can feel your heart pounding in your chest.
You really hoped that was the case. You weren’t sure how long you’d last if it wasn’t.
Following after Twilight, the two of you step up onto the landing, stopping in front of the booth. On either side of the table, you can see a small stack of plates, cups, and silverware—quite clearly placed there with the intention of serving two ponies, rather than three.
Glancing down to the unicorn at your side, you can see Twilight tilt her head to the side, appearing to pick up on the same detail.
You bring your fist to your lips, clearing your throat.
“Um...Pinkie was the one who set the table...maybe she didn’t think she’d be back right away?”
You can see Twilight nod at your side, the look of confusion disappearing.
“Oh! That makes sense.”
She flashes you another smile, shrugging.
“I guess we’ll just have to make the most of it until she gets back. It’ll be a good chance to catch up though, just the two of us.”
Your heart skips another beat.
So so unfair.
Nodding awkwardly as the mare slides into the seat on the far side of the table, you shuffle into the seat opposite her, bending your knees slightly so that you can fit comfortably. Settling in, you pass another nervous glance back to the room behind you.
Still no sign of Pinkie Pie. No giggles. No shifting bushes. No cardboard boxes sliding closer on the floor.
You click your teeth as you feel your anxiousness growing.
“Oh! It looks like Pinkie Pie left us a note!”
“Note?”
You turn back to the table, glancing over in Twilight's direction. Sure enough, you can see a small, bulky envelope leaning up against the stack of plates before her, the words “From Pinkie” written out in the party mare’s signature, squiggly hoofwriting.
For some reason, you can feel a slight uneasiness in your stomach as you watch Twilight open it.
Your eyes do another, slower pass around the room.
“Ahem.”
Across the table, you watch Twilight pull out the enclosed letter, clearing her throat as she begins to read.
“Dear Twilight and Nonny,
Right now I’m on a super-duper-important, top secret mission, so I might be a teensie-weensie, tiny-winy bit late for today’s all-you-can-eat-super-dessert-a-thon.
In the meantime, I came up with a super fun game for the two of you to play! All the snacks here are ones from recipes that Nonny brought from the human world. You should have Twilight try them out and guess what each of them is!
No peeking, though! That would ruin the surprise!”
There’s a faint fwump across the table as you watch something else fall out of the envelope, coming to rest at Twilight’s hooves. It takes you a moment to realize what it is, your confusion only growing as you do.
A purple sleeping mask?
You can see Twilight regard the small fabric blindfold with an equally perplexed expression, her gaze shifting between it and the note a few times before settling back on you.
“I guess Pinkie Pie wants us to try out the game she left for us.”
“The game she…”
You shake your head. What was going on here? What did Pinkie have in mind? Wouldn't wearing a blindfold make it difficult for Twilight to try any of the—
You can feel the warmth in your cheeks rise, your shoulders tensing.
Pinkie…Pinkie didn’t expect you to feed Twilight, did she?
You stare across the table, your expression blank as Twilight flips the sleeping mask over in her hoof. You can see the mare raise her brow in thought, mulling the idea over.
“Well, the blindfold seems like a little much, but Pinkie has always been pretty serious about her games.”
Thinking it over a little longer, you can see Twilight shrug, another small smile lighting her expression.
“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try. I have been wanting to try more things from the human world anyways.”
Her eyes shift back up to yours, her purple irises warm and inviting.
“You wouldn’t mind helping me out a bit, would you, Anon? It might be a little difficult to navigate all these treats with the blindfold on.”
Your heart skips again. The number of missed beats was starting to get concerning.
“I…um…”
You swallow.
Like Tartarus you’d be able to say no to that face.
“…sure.”
Twilight beams.
“Great! This should be fun.”
The familiar hum of magic meets your ears as Twilight levitates the satin sleeping mask over her eyes, tying the two ends off behind her mane. You can see the faintest indentation of her eyes beneath the fabric, a look of concentration lighting her expression as she glances back and forth, adjusting the fit.
“—and there. I think that should do it.”
She flashes you another smile—blindfolded—from across the table.
“How do I look?”
You swallow again.
It was hard not to imagine the scene before you out of context.
“Um…it suits…you?”
You can see Twilight lift a hoof to her muzzle, laughing in response.
“What’s that supposed to mean, Anon?”
You shake your head, grateful that Twilight can’t see the blush rising in your cheeks.
“I’m...um...not sure.”
Still grinning, you see the mare sway her head back and forth, free of any of the embarrassment currently plaguing you.
“I’m ready whenever you are, Anon. What should we try first?”
You click your teeth, the tension in your shoulders returning. Though Twilight didn’t seem to realize it, this whole situation was prime date material through and through. Pretty advanced date material, considering how the blindfold was in play.
Your blush deepens a bit.
You knew it was just the lavender mare's personality, but the fact she didn’t quite seem to pick up on those cues almost made you feel more embarrassed. Like you were the only one having dirty thoughts.
Wait—dirty thoughts?
Your eyes widen. You shake your head.
Sensual was one thing...but dirty? Was this really "dirty thought" material? Was feeding someone blindfolded really that suggestive when it came down to it?
You shake your head again.
Maybe…maybe you were overthinking this.
Twilight didn’t seem to think it was a big deal—why should you? As long as she was alright with it and you were alright with it…
Closing your eyes for a moment, you take a deep breath, your composure slowly returning.
Even if it was a little date-like, what was the problem with two grown adults—two friends—having a little fun like this? No harm would come of it.
“Anon? Are you still there?”
“Ah, sorry, Twi—Twilight.”
You wipe the sweat from your brow.
You had to focus. Zoning out right now wouldn’t help.
Lifting your hand back onto the table, you reach for a fork, grasping it gently between your fingers. Looking over the small tines, you glance back toward the array of sweets set out on the table, searching over them with your eyes.
“Let’s try—um—this one.”
Reaching out with the fork, you spear one of the cookies—a gingersnap, from the looks of it—gingerly lifting it from its plate. Turning back to Twilight, you can see her tilt her head expectantly, an air of curiosity on her face as she tries to follow the sound with her blindfolded gaze.
“Did you choose one?”
“Um, yeah.”
Slowly, you lean forward, hesitating a bit as you hold the fork out to the mare.
There’s an awkward pause.
“Um, say…say ahh.”
“Oh! Um—ahhhh…”
Jumping a bit at your prompting, you watch Twilight slowly open her mouth, her lips parted as she sits there in wait. Swallowing, you push yourself forward, your hand shaking slightly as you feed her the cookie, her mouth closing around the head of the fork.
“Mm.”
You watch Twilight nod—your cue to pull the fork back. Doing so, you watch as the unicorn begins to chew, a somewhat odd scene playing out as you awkwardly watch her cheeks puff up from across the table.
“Hmmmm…"
You can hear the mare hum to herself over the sound of crunching, pausing for a moment before swallowing. Tilting her head to the side, she seems to think for a moment before turning her blindfolded gaze in your direction.
“It tastes a little different than the ones Pinkie Pie usually makes, but was that a gingersnap?”
You nod in reply before remembering the blindfold.
“—Oh. Um. Yeah. That’s right. It was.”
Another bright smile from Twilight.
“Not bad. It seems like the human world has pretty good recipes, too, Anon.”
“Oh. Yeah. They’re not—um—too bad.”
“What’s next?”
Your eyes return to the table. The color pink catches your attention. Maybe out of habit, at this point.
“How about this?”
You lean forward, a faint crunch sounding from the small biscuit as you pierce through its crisp exterior. Turning back to the mare, you manage to bring the fork forward with a little more confidence this time, clearing your throat once more as you repeat yourself.
“Um, ahh, again.”
“Mm! Ahhhhh…”
You watch Twilight open her mouth with a bit more of a grin this time, flashing you a glimpse of her perfect, white teeth. Feeding the end of the fork into her muzzle, you watch her close her lips around it, the mare giving you another nod as the signal to pull back.
You do so again, feeling a bit of resistance as the biscuit comes loose from the tines. You see Twilight’s eyes widen a fraction beneath her sleeping mask, her head tilting forward as she follows the movement of the fork for a moment before pulling back.
“Mmmn~”
Your eyes widen as you hear a faint, airy hum escape the mare, a thin trail of saliva following the fork as it leaves her lips. You can see her cheeks blush the faintest red as she brings a hoof to her lips, chewing slowly as she shakes her head.
“Sorry, Anon. I didn’t expect that one to get stuck to the fork.”
You shake your head, still entranced by the image and sound. Despite not having to chew and swallow first, it almost takes you as long to respond.
“No—no worries. It must be hard trying to gauge distances while—um—blindfolded.”
You watch the unicorn nod and smile.
“Mm! It’s definitely more of a challenge than I thought it would be.”
You see Twilight think for a moment, raising a hoof to her chin.
“…macaroon, though? Raspberry, maybe?”
For the first time in a little while, you catch a small smile of surprise passing over your lips. You hadn’t expected the mare to have such a sharp sense of taste.
“Uh, yeah, actually. Raspberry and vanilla.”
You see Twilight grin with pride beneath her blindfold, picking up on the surprise in your voice.
“You’ll have to try harder than that, Anon. Pinkie Pie and I have been having tea and treats together for a while now. I may not be much of a baker, but I know my way around sweets.”
You can feel your grin tug upward a little further. The faintest trace of playful smugness in Twilight’s voice seems to awaken something in your chest. You can feel your patissier’s spirit grinning at the challenge of throwing her for a loop.
“Alright, then. How about—”
You scan the table, a faint, excited tingle in your fingers as they grip the fork.
Your eyes widen as they catch sight of another one of the desserts—a pink and white cheesecake parfait, heaped with cream and strawberries on top.
You grin.
“How about this one?”
Scooping up a piece with the fork—and making sure to pile on a lot of cream—you turn back to Twilight, cupping your free hand beneath the fork as you bring it closer to her.
The hesitance in your voice has almost dissipated at this point, you movements and confidence fueled by a strange, unfettered euphoria.
“Say ahhh.”
You can see Twilight’s eyes widen slightly beneath her mask, the mare not expecting the next bite so soon.
“Oh. Ahhhhhhhn—mmph!”
Moving a little more quickly this time, you slide the sample into the mare’s mouth, the dollop of cream and strawberry brushing up against her lips as you place the fork in her muzzle. You see her lean forward on instinct, closing her lips around the utinsel as she tries to keep from spilling. You watch a small fleck of cream flick upward, landing on her snout as she adjusts her muzzle.
“Mm-mm.”
You pull back, the tines of the fork slipping out between the unicorn’s lips.
“Mmmmnnnnn~”
Your eyes widen as a faint hum escapes Twilight’s muzzle—the sound unexpectedly sensual. Once again, you can see the mare lift a hoof to her lips, but not before you catch a glimpse of her tongue lapping out to catch the cream on the tip of her snout.
Your earlier nervousness starts to resurface as you realize you might have gotten a bit carried away. Before you, you watch Twilight chew a few moments longer before swallowing, a playfully irritated expression showing beneath her blindfold.
“Anon. Warn me if you’re going to do something like that first, alright? We almost made a mess all over the table.”
You cough into your shoulder, doing your best to play it off as you try to avoid choking on your spit.
Images of last Wednesday immediately flash to mind. How you’d forgotten them up until this moment was beyond you.
You shake your head, trying desperately to regain your composure.
“Sorry. Got a little carried away there.”
You can see Twilight shake her head, her mock frown disappearing as she smiles.
“That’s alright Anon, I know you didn’t mean anything by it.”
Tilting her head like before, she seems to ponder the flavor a little longer this time, drumming her hoof on the table.
“All the cream and strawberries made it difficult to tell but…strawberry parfait? With cheesecake?”
Your eyes widen in genuine surprise. You thought you’d had her with that one.
The unexpected answer is enough to help you push past some of the panic that had started to settle in.
“Um, yeah. Right again. I didn’t think you’d get that one.”
Twilight flashes you a playful smirk, lifting an eyebrow from behind her blindfold.
“Is that the best the human world has to offer, Anon? I was hoping I’d get a chance to try something new today.”
Slowly, you feel the small grin from earlier return to your face.
This mare. Really. She was just too perfect.
Fun. Smart. Surprisingly sassy when she wanted to be.
You let out a small chuckle of your own.
This was actually turning out to be kind of fun. Maybe Pinkie's idea to leave the two of you alone for a bit hadn't been a bad idea after all.
You glance back toward the spread before you, fork in hand.
“Let’s see then, how about—mmph!”
You suddenly find yourself cut off as a thick rope whips down from the ceiling, wrapping lengthwise across your mouth like a gag. Before you can react, you feel it go taut, wrapping around the back of your head and knotting itself into place. A half second later, you feel four more of the cords lasso out around your wrists and ankles, wrapping around each of them as you find yourself hoisted from your seat and into the air.
“Mmmph! Mmmph!”
Panicking, you flail against your bonds, the taste of cherry filling your mouth as you bite down on your gag. Staring down in confusion, you can see that the cords wrapping around your head and wrists aren’t rope at all, but stringy, reddish cords with a faintly elastic consistency.
“Mlkmlurmlish!?”
Licorish!?
You blink. Rapidly.
What in Tartarus was going on?
[Shhhhhhhh!]
You jump as you suddenly see yellow text appear in the air above you, your gaze immediately shooting upward. Staring into the shadowed rafters, you can see a pony shaped figure in a black jumpsuit, goggles pushed back onto their forehead beneath a poofy pink mane.
Your eyes meet the blue ones staring down into your own.
[Pinkie Pie!?]
You can feel your body tense against your candied bonds, the four licorice ropes leading up into the rafters where the pink mare is staring down at you, a hoof pressed against her lips.
The confusion in your mind hasn’t abated—only changed course.
What was Pinkie trying to do here?
Catching movement out of the corner of your eye, you glance back down at the table, your eyes widening as you see Twilight tilt her head to the side. You can see a faint look of confusion on her face beneath her blindfold, her ears perking up as she tilts her head in your direction.
“Anon? Is something wrong? It sounds like you were choking on something.”
