Flutterlich

by Oneimare
Soon after a strange encounter at the Everfree Forest Fluttershy dies. Actually, she doesn’t—not really. It’s… complicated.

“In fantasy fiction, a lich (/ˈlɪtʃ/; from the Old English līċ, meaning ‘corpse’) is a type of undead creature. Often such a creature is the result of a willful transformation, as a powerful wizard skilled in necromancy who seeks eternal life uses rare substances in a magical ritual to become undead.” – from Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia.

“Flutter: the act of fluttering—quick and irregular motion; a state of agitation; an abnormal rapid pulsation of the heart; an extremely dangerous divergent oscillation caused by a positive feedback loop between the elastic deformation of an object and the aerodynamic forces acting on it, potentially resulting in rapid structural failure; a small bet or risky investment; a hasty game of cards or similar; the rapid variation of signal parameters, such as amplitude, phase, and frequency.” – from Wiktionary, the free dictionary.

Thus the word ‘Flutterlich’ doesn’t make any sense.
And so won’t this story.

Disclaimer

If you’ve been around for quite a while or you are just quite inquisitive, you might fairly note that there is already a story titled such; furthermore, this work is suspiciously similar to it in certain aspects. Of course, it’s not a mere coincidence—Flutterlich of my creation serves as much of a tribute to the original story as my own vision of that concept. That said, I highly recommend acquainting yourself not only with the Flutterlich by NTSTS, but also with some other of their wonderful stories (such as Lunacy, for example).

I feel obliged to warn any potential readers about the quality of the text, more than I usually do.
First of all, English is not my native language and this story received almost no external editing, so it is bound to have mistakes and problems that might spoil one’s reading experience.
Secondly, Flutterlich serves me as an opportunity to implement my study of archaic prose, meaning that on top of being already nearly insufferably ‘purple’ it also contains a lot of words that aren’t being used in ‘modern’ English, rendering it even more unreadable.
