The cart has to be finished in a few days because the Applewood derby is taking place. Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom already had their races done. Apple Bloom won the prize for the most creative cart and Sweetie Belle won the prize for the most traditional cart. But now it's about to be Scootaloo's turn. "I already can tell you that I'm going to win this race!" Scootaloo squeeks in excitement. "of course you will!!! I mean how is anypony going to beat this cart?" Rainbow Dash cheers. "I don't know but one thing is sure. We need more downforce!!!" Scootaloo says in excitement. "but how do you want to generate more downforce? We already have built front and rear wing on the cart." Rainbow Dash reminds. "well... we're going to use ground effect!!! We will need a venturi tunnel on the underfloor of the cart." Scootaloo explains. "are you sure it will help?" Rainbow Dash doubts. "it will!!! The cart is going to be sucked on the ground. That's why it's called ground effect." Scootaloo explains. Rainbow and Scootaloo are installing the venturi tunnel on the underfloor of the cart. Then Scootaloo does a test run. She goes with very high speed through the corners, almost without braking in the mid speed corners. the g-forces are relatively low to medium, just under the regulation limit. After that, Rainbow and Scootaloo notice that a crash at these speeds could be fatal. That's why they install a roll bar on the top of the cart to protect Scootaloo's head in case of a severe crash. "that should make it" Rainbow says with a proud voice. Scootaloo then goes at a relatively low speed towards a ramp and flips herself upside down on purpose to test if the roll bar does it's job. The roll bar does not take any damage because of the low impact forces. That's why Rainbow and Scootaloo are dropping a anvil on a prototype of the roll bar. the impact forces are huge but the roll bar can deal with it. "I think the crash tests are completed" Rainbow proudly says. "yeah, I believe my cart is the safest thing on the track. Only these bumps are worrying me. I saw somepony flip over, landing himself in the hospital." Scootaloo mentions. "it will be fine squirt" Rainbow calms Scootaloo down. On race day, the CMC meet up in order to discuss the strategy for the race. half a hour later, the race starts. Scootaloo takes the lead in lap 1 but there was a big crash at the grid. The safety cart comes out for 3 laps. At the restart, Scootaloo has lost 2 positions due to a bad start. In lap 7, tragedy strikes. As Scootaloo attempts to overtake for the lead, the young pegasus gets out of the slipstream at exactly that point where a bump is. Scootaloo's cart is taking off and flies straight over the hedges whilst flipping multiple times. Luckily, nopony was standing there where Scootaloo impacted and rolled several meters over the ground. The race got red flagged. "SCOOTALOO!!!" Rainbow Dash screams in fear and rushes as fast as possible over to Scootaloo's wreck. She could find the young pegasus unconsciously in her cart. fortunately the cart landed on all 4 wheels... if the cart would not be damaged that badly... Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom are frozen because of the shock. "Oh my goodness..." Sweetie Belle gasps. "that... that was ah big one..." Apple Bloom mumbles. "no... please... no no no... please not her..." Rainbow cries whilst pulling Scootaloo out of the cart. The ambulance was there immediately and got brought into the nearest hospital as quickly as possible. As Scootaloo arrives in the hospital, she's still unconscious. After a series of surgeries, Rainbow Dash, Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom were allowed to enter Scootaloo's room. "why... why did this happen... I-I don't understand..." Rainbow cries. "it's not yer fault... the cart was simply too light. Also what ah noticed is that the cart had too little inclination to the ground" Apple Bloom explains. "Apple Bloom is right... I think you both miscalculated something that should not have happen..." Sweetie Belle says with a sad voice. Then the doctors show up. They have bad news to deliver. It seems like the impact could have been too severe for Scootaloo to survive. "I'm afraid to say that but... Scootaloo might not survive this night. I'm sorry everypony, we tried our best but all we can do now is to hope for a miracle..." the doctor says. "th-this... grrrr" Rainbow fights to hold back her tears but fails. "SC-Scootaloo... I-I'm so sorry this happened... th-that's all my fault..." the cyan pegasus cries out. Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom burst out into tears as they heard what the doctor said. After half a hour, Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom and Rainbow Dash had to leave Scootaloo behind. After the horrible crash, the race got restarted a hour later and Snails won the race. However he couldn't celebrate his victory because of what happened before. "If Scootaloo survives, I will give her the prize for the safest cart on the track." Snails says with a worried voice, not knowing how critical Scootaloo's condition is. A few days later, Rainbow Dash returns to the hospital to visit Scootaloo. In the meantime, Scootaloo got out of the coma and her conditions got better day by day. Rainbow Dash started crying when she saw that Scootaloo is no longer unconscious and walked over to her bed. "I'm so sorry what happened Scootaloo... I'm unbelievably sorry..." Rainbow cries out. "it's okay Rainbow... I did survive... thanks to you... Without the rollover protection, I would have died..." Scootaloo responds and soon finds herself in the embrace of Rainbow Dash who doesn't hold her emotions back. "Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom already visited me and they were relieved when they knew that I survived. The doctors told me that I could leave the hospital in a few weeks." Scootaloo says. A smile filled with tears came from Rainbow Dash. "don't give up squirt!!" she cheers. "I won't do that Rainbow!!!" Scootaloo says with a combative voice. A month later, Scootaloo was released from the hospital and encountered Snails, who gave her the prize for the safest cart on the track.
