Camazotz Comes to Canterlot Highby Lord Shadow EclipseChaptersChapter 1: Leaving XibalbaChapter 2: Arriving in CanterlotChapter 3: EnrollmentChapter 1: Leaving XibalbaIn Xibalba, the Mayan Underworld Within this plane of suffering and fear, where the trees are twisted and thorny lifeless beams and the water is stagnant toxic slime, lies a high mountain with a vast network of caves and catacombs. Deep underneath the mountain's surface, was a large room with cave formations of various forms. The entire room was formed in a way that it looked like a king's hall. The ceiling was covered with large dark bats that only lived in Xibalba. In the farthest end of the chamber was a giant stone throne with a bizarre being sitting on the throne. Sitting on the throne was the one and only Camazotz, one of the Mayan gods that ruled Xibalba and the god of bats, the night, and sacrifice. He was worshipped by his very own own cult among the Zapotec people of Mesoamerica. He fit the basic description the Zapotecs gave him. He had the head and face of a bat with a humanoid body, a giant pair of leathery wings are part of his arms, dark gray skin, a coating of black fur adoring his back, and was dressed in the attire of Mayan royalty. He had a golden chest piece, a red cloth wrapped around his legs, and a crown with black feathers atop his head. He was looking at the floor with a bored expression. "Are you okay, Lord Camazotz?" one of his bats asked him. "It's just that it's another boring day here in Xibalba, guys" Camazotz replied with a sigh. "It's been nothing but boring around here for the past few hundred years". There was good reason for the bat god's boredom. Ever since the various groups that made up the great empires of Mesoamerica were wiped out by the Catholic conquistadors, the gods of the Mayans and Aztecs haven't had much to do these days. Nowadays, all they do is sit around and watch over their realms. Whenever they actually take the time to actually do their jobs as gods, the other gods just laugh at you for doing things for mortals who don't even worship and fear you. Camazotz turned his luminous red eyes upwards towards his bat servants. "What's going on in the mortal realm?" In response, the bats in Camazotz's hall brought their dark master his special mirror to allow him to peer into the mortal realm. The glass was lined with gold and the glass currently showed the bat god's face. To view the goings-on in the mortal world, he needed to scratch the Zapotec words for the human world onto the glass. The image in the mirror changed to that of the human world. The image before him was that of the American city of Canterlot according to the sign outside the city. Despite him speaking K'iche and Zapotec, he had an understanding of all human languages. He was dumbfounded and surprised by the technology the humans had created over the centuries. He remembered the day when simply building a stone temple was the biggest accomplishment of a civilization's existence. As Camazotz moved through the city with his mirror, he tapped the glass to be able to look inside the buildings. As he looked, Camazotz noticed that one of the buildings he saw was some form of home for a human family. Camazotz was suddenly startled by the sound of a female human screaming. Camazotz covered his large ears in pain. "What the Xibalba is that unholy sound?!" he shrieked. He looked at the mirror to find the source of the scream. He saw what looked like a grown male human swinging a sweeping tool of some kind at something in a dark room. Camazotz began to laugh hysterically from the idea of this full-grown man screaming like a woman. "Did this grown man make that scream? That's actually hilarious!" Camazotz cried with a laughing fit. The Xibalba bats roosting above him were shocked with glee. It had been literally centuries since they heard their master laugh like that. The last time he did was when one of the mortals sacrificed to him pissed on himself and the priest during a sacrificial ritual. It was nice to hear their master's laughter echoing through the cavern hall. Camazotz was having the most fun he'd had in centuries. Mortals were so much more amusing than he'd remembered. He had to continue watching this mortal to see what it was he was swinging the cleaning thing at. But what he saw was a sight that made him replace his amusement with anger. Apparently, this mortal male was swinging his cleaning implement at a small bat that had somehow gotten into the man's house. The poor creature was flying away from the man while trying to find a way out of the house. The man was swinging that cleaning tool around like a brainless fool just hoping he'd hit the smaller and faster bat. The bat was effortlessly dodging the foolish man's swings. "Look at the way he's swinging that tool around! If an army were to invade the city, there's no way he'd be able to defend his home from trained warriors!" Camazotz raged at the man. "But not only that, he's trying to harm one of my beloved bats!!" he continued to rage. "Shining! What are you doing?!" a female voice called from the mirror. Camazotz turned his attention back to the mirror to see the source of the female voice. He moved his perception to the top of a set of stairs to reveal a young human girl. She was a petite young thing with dark purple hair with a streak of pink running through it and shining lavender eyes. Her attire was some kind of form-fitting white robe that only came down to her waist and a pair of what looked like leg coverings that was made out of some really soft fabric. Her eyes were adorned with a bizarre object containing glass lenses. Camazotz was dumbstruck. This girl was beautiful! He found that he couldn't take her eyes of of her. He watched her go down the stairs and wrestle the tool out of the stupid male's hands. "What are you doing?" she asked the older male. "I'm trying to get rid of a bat that had flown in through the window, Twilight!" the older male cried. "Then just open the doors and windows until the bat flies out!" the girl named Twilight shouted. Then this Twilight girl opened the door to their home and the bat eventually flew right out. She then closed the door and turned to her apparent older brother. "If this ever happens again, just open the doors and windows. The bat will eventually fly right out. The bat was far more afraid of you than you were of him" Twilight said. "What? Are bats your favorite animal, now?" the brother said "Yes! Bats are really fascinating animals" Twilight replied. "In fact, did you know that the Mayans had a bat god?" Now this girl had Camazotz's full attention. She knew about him? She actually knew about him? It had been several hundred years since anyone ever even referenced his existence. And she appreciated bats. His precious children. And she had the face of a goddess to boot. Camazotz sighed as he looked at Twilight. "Wow. I have to meet this Twilight" Camazotz said. The bats in the hall were shocked. "But Master! You want to see a mortal girl?! You'd have to go to the mortal realm to do that!" one of the bats cried. "Besides, why would you want to see a mortal girl?! You're an immortal god! You have duties here in Xibalba!" another one of the bats said. Camazotz looked up at his subordinates and gave them a glare. The talking bats shivered at their master's glare. He'd never glared at them like that. He even bared his fangs at them! "What duties do I have down here?! There's literally nothing for me to do anymore!" Camazotz shouted. He waved his wing around him to prove his point. "Look around! No new souls of the dead are coming down here! No souls to test so they can finally move on to the afterlife. No damned souls to torment! I've been doing nothing but sit on my throne in boredom for nearly five hundred years!" Camazotz then turned back to the image of Twilight in his mirror. He gently caressed the image of Twilight's hair with one of his claws. "As for this girl, she's simply amazing! She loves my children and knows of my existence. I have to meet her and maybe make her into a priestess of mine. I could rebuild my cult in the modern world" Camazotz said. "But to meet her, you'd have to leave Xibalba!" a bat said. The bat god smiled. "Now there's an idea! I guess I'll just leave Xibalba" "Will Hun-Came and Vucub-Came allow that?" a bat asked. Hun-Came and Vucub-Came were the two Mayan death gods that governed Xibalba. They'd send some souls Camazotz's way so he would test their mettle in order to achieve a path to the afterlife. However, since the Mayan Empire collapsed, those two hadn't been doing anything these days. Camazotz was sure they wouldn't mind him going to the mortal realm, if they even noticed he was gone at all. "Oh please! Those two wouldn't even notice a fly if it was right in front of their faces" Camazotz retorted. The bats all looked at their master with pleading looks on their faces. Camazotz sighed. "Don't worry. I'll take a human form once I'm in the human world" the bat god said. That seemed to assuage the bats' worries. It was nice to see that the bats all cared about their master. "Well, if you ever need anything, my lord, just summon us" a bat said. Camazotz stood up from his throne and stretched his wings. He could feel the joints in his wings cracking and popping with the strectching. Not flying for hundreds of years did a number on the joints. After a few practice flaps, Camazotz shot off into the air and flew out of his cavern home. As he flew through the perpetually-dark sky of Xibalba, he made his way to one of the few places in the world that acted as a passage to the mortal world. Camazotz eventually found what looked like a cave entrance with a glowing red light coming from within. In Mayan mythology, caves acted as gateways to Xibalba. This was true in some respect. While some caves acted as gateways, only the gods could enter and exit Xibalba through caves. Otherwise, they're just regular caves. "Mortal world, here I come!" Camazotz shouted before diving through the opening. Camazotz closed his eyes and smiled at the opportunity to meet Twilight. He had never been more excited about anything else in thousands of years. He would show Twilight the true beauty of night. Author's Note Hey guys! I hope you enjoy this new story! I love the idea of a literal god interacting with MLP characters. Especially one of my favorite gods from mythology, Camazotz. I'm trying to include as much Mayan mythology in this story as I can. Chapter 2: Arriving in CanterlotCamp Everfree- Nighttime On the slopes of one of the mountains next to Camp Everfree were large cave systems that ran deep underground. These caverns were quite famous in the summertime due to the vast bat colonies that would fly out of the caves in large streams to hunt for insects. From within one of these caves, a red light began to emit from the mouth. The light got brighter and brighter by the second until a form began to emerge from the light. The form of a giant bat. Camazotz emerged from the light and stepped onto the cave floor with his bare clawed feet. His looked around his new surroundings with a look of intrigue. "Am I in the mortal world?" he asked himself. Stretching his wings, Camazotz flew towards the mouth of the cave and peered down the mountain slope. From a distance, he could make out tents and wooden huts with some humans sitting around a fire. One of them, an older male, seemed to be telling a story. Camazotz smiled a wide grin. "I've done it! I've made it to the mortal realm!" Camazotz cried out. "I should go down there and perhaps introduce myself" But before he took off, a troubling thought entered his mind. The humans probably wouldn't respond well to a giant bat god just flying towards them from the darkness. Humans are really cowardly creatures, after all. Twilight's brother is a textbook example of a coward. If he was afraid of a creature that was fifty times smaller than him, there's no way he'd be able to defend his sister from an invading army. "Perhaps I should take a human form before walking up to them" Camazotz said. But Camazotz had never taken a human form before. In all his several thousand years of life, he had never needed to take human form. His buddy Quetzalcoatl could take various forms, including human. But from what he heard, if he took human form, he wouldn't be able to use his greater godly powers. Still, there was only one way to see if this was all true. Camazotz focused his god powers to picture himself as a human. He closed his eyes in concentration to picture himself as a human. To his surprise, he began to feel himself changing. He could feel himself lose his wings. His ears became smaller and smaller. The fur on his back and chest disappeared completely. His fangs shortened to normal human teeth. The claws on his fingers and toes became human nails. He became shorter until he was around the average size of a human male. Camazotz opened his eyes and looked down at himself. He looked like a fit human male around the same age as Twilight. He felt a full head of hair on the top of his head. He pulled out a few strands to see that the hair was a light silver in color. The skin of his human form was quite pale, like moonlight. His facial features felt like the face of a prince. A smile formed on his face. "I did it! I'm now human!" he shouted. "Now to see if I can use my godly powers" The first thing he tried to do was summon a swarm of bats. Only a few bats responded to his call as they were flying around him. "So, it appears that I can't use my god powers to their full capacity" Camazotz noted. "Oh well, I'm going to go say hi to those humans at the camp" But before he left the cave, he noticed that he was wearing no clothes. He used his little amount of god powers to form the same clothes he saw the humans wearing when he was looking at them through his mirror. He now wore a red T-shirt, a pair of black jeans, and a long black coat. His feet had on black sneakers. "Now I should probably fly over there. It'd take too long to walk to the camp" Camazotz said. Camazotz changed to his true form and flew towards the human camp. As he got closer to the camp, he couldn't help but get a sneaking suspicion about how they'd react to a total stranger suddenly showing up to the camp. "On second thought, I'd better make my way towards the human city" he said to himself. Camazotz quickly changed direction and made his way towards Canterlot. Good thing the city had lots of lights to serve as an indicator of its location. Octavia, Vinyl Scratch, Lyra, and Bon Bon were walking down a hiking trail to reach a special bat cave they heard about. They reached the slope of the mountain with these bat caves and looked at the nearest cave's entrance. Bon Bon looked at the entrance with anticipation. "Are you ready to see the bats, guys?" Bon Bon asked. "I'm ready, Bon" Lyra replied. "I'm so ready! This might give me an idea for a new album" Vinyl said. "This is certainly better than having to deal with magic-obsessed supervillains" Octavia said. As they were waiting to see swarms of bats flying around, they heard a voice coming from inside the cave. "I did it! I'm now human!" the voice called out. The group was shocked. There wasn't supposed to be anyone out here. Not this deep in the forest, anyway. "Who was that?!" Octavia whispered in fear. "I don't know!" Lyra responded. The group of girls hid behind some of the bushes. The girls didn't keep their eyes off the entrance to the cave. They wanted to see what this stranger looked like so they could report it to the authorities. After a few minutes of waiting, they got a good look at the stranger. Thanks to the moonlight, they could all get a good look at the stranger from the cave. A beautiful stranger stepped out from the cave's entrance. He was built like a warrior. There appeared to be nothing but muscle on this guy's body, but not too big. He had long silver hair that reached his chin. His eyes were a brilliant and alluring shade of red. But what really drew the girls' attention was the fact that he was naked. Their eyes were drawn to his third leg. The girls all blushed upon seeing his equipment. Even Octavia, the most proper out of all the girls here, couldn't take her eyes off this man's groin. He looked like he was about to walk aay when he looked down at himself. The look on his face said that he was just now noticing that he was naked. Before the girls' very eyes, clothes appeared on the man's body. His ensemble seemed to somehow make him even more attractive to the girls. "Now I should probably fly over there. It'd take too long to walk to the camp" the man said. The guy began to apparently change his form again, but in a much more drastic way. He now bore the appearance of a giant bat. A crown of black feathers topped his head and gold adornments covered his chest. He spread his giant leathery wings and took off in the direction of the camp. The girls were all sitting there in shock. "Did you all see... the same thing I saw?" Lyra asked. "You mean that hot guy turning into a giant bat?" Vinyl asked in reply. "Yeah, that" Lyra said. "I think something interesting is going to happen" Bon Bon said. She had no idea what they all just saw. Not really. Chapter 3: EnrollmentCanterlot City- Nighttime Camazotz flew over some buildings in Canterlot that were apparently abandoned by the city's inhabitants long ago. Some of them were in better condition than the others. Some were large and looked like they were for storing things. Some looked like they used to be homes. There was one building in particular that caught Camazotz's eye. A building that he had seen before. It was an old abandoned cathedral. He had seen a few of these being built by the Spanish when they were colonizing the New World. They had ben trying to convince the native peoples to give up on their old gods and worship their singular one. How he wished he could've come to the mortal world during those days. He would've popped into one of their masses and scared the guano out of them. This cathedral was built in a manner similar to how they looked during the old days, with high-vaulted ceilings. spires, and even a few gargoyles covered in moss. Fortunately for him, the glass on the windows were all intact. The cathedral had a tall bell tower near the back end of the building. He could stay there for the night. Camazotz landed in front of the cathedral's front doors and opened them. The inside was covered in dust and cobwebs. The chairs and pews were strewn about the place haphazardly. The back of the main gathering place was a tall spot with solid rafters holding up the ceiling. "Looks like I'll be roosting here for the time-being. I'll need to see if I can find Twilight when she's up and about" Camazotz said. He flew up the the rafters and latched onto the underside with his feet. He hung upside down and prepared for rest. He would find Twilight in the morning. The Next Morning Camazotz woke to the sound of the dawn chorus of birds waking up from their nightly slumber. He used his claws to rub the sleep out of his eyes and looked at his surroundings. The sun wasn't high enough in the shy for the cathedral to be flooded with light, thankfully. He let go of his roost and landed gracefully on the ground. "Now that it's morning, I can see if Twilight is up" Camazotz said. Using his magic, he summoned forth his magic viewing mirror to find Twilight. She was out of bed and was apparently getting ready for the day. She had brushed her hair and teeth and threw on some shoes and was out the door in a flash with some kind of pack on her back. Twilight was running down the street with remarkable speed for a human. Eventually, she stopped at some kind of large building with a stone statue of a horse out front. There were others the same age as Twilight there as well. They were all walking towards the building with a singular purpose. "Well, better change into my human form so I can finally meet Twilight" Camazotz said before changing into his human form. Using his limited magic, he created a black backpack to wear while at this building since the other young humans seemed to be wearing them. After that, he was right out the door. At Canterlot High Camazotz had walked down the street to the place that Twilight had gone to. When he arrived there, he noticed that there was a sign out front. Canterlot High School "So this is a place of learning. Interesting" Camazotz noted. Camazotz noticed two students that waved in greeting to him. Camazotz waved back to them and carried on. Greeting those two mortals was simple enough. Maybe he could pass for a human student here. As soon as he walked through the doors, he noticed that the hallways and front lobby were devoid of any students. He looked around for any sign of human life, but there was none to be found. "Can we help you?" a mature female voice asked form his left. Camazotz turned to see two human women standing before him. One of them was quite tall with a bright tan suit shirt and light purple pants, with light rainbow-colored hair and lavender eyes. The other one was shorter with light blue eyes and dark blue hair while wearing a dark purple shirt and blue pants. Both of them carried similar auras of authority. Camazotz had to be careful around them. Good thing he was really good at making up lies on the spot. "Yes. I'd actually like to enroll here at this school" he replied to the woman's earlier question. "Oh, you'd like to enroll in Canterlot High?" the shorter woman asked. "Yes I would. Perhaps you can help me with that" Camazotz said. "Okay, just follow us" the taller woman said before leading them down the hallway to an office space of some sort. The two women stood behind a large wooden desk while Camazotz sat in a chair before them. This was slightly unusual for the god as he used to have mortals and the souls of the dead standing before him in the past. Times really have changed for the bat god. "Alright, we just need to know some basic information about you" the taller woman said. "Information like what?" he asked in reply. "Like what your name is, where were you were born, your parents' names. Those details" the shorter woman replied. Camazotz hadn't planned on that. He figured he would just be allowed in. The Mayans and Zapotecs didn't need things like this to receive an education. Besides, he wasn't about to tell them that he's a bat god as old as the Earth itself and has tremendous dark power over the dead as well as the living. But he had another idea. He looked right into the women's eyes as he spoke. "My name is Damien Chiroptera. I was born in Shadowbrooke. My parents' names are Gossamer and Pipistrelle" he said making sure he made full eye contact. The two women were looking directly into "Damien's" eyes. After a few seconds, both of them seemed to relax. They both smiled at Damien and the taller woman handed him a piece of parchment and a small rectangular object. "That's your student ID and class schedule, Damien. Don't lose them and welcome to Canterlot High. We'll have someone show you around and then take you to your first class" the taller woman said with a slurred voice. "Thank you both. I'm sure I will" Camazotz replied. He then got up and left the office. Looking down at his class schedule, he had something called "History". He was quite knowledgeable about history. Hell, he witnessed history. "Sunset Shimmer, please report to the front. We have a new student we'd like you o show around" a loud voice called. Camazotz spun around in shock. That was certainly unexpected. A loud voice had just called down form the heavens. Was it a messenger from Quetzalcoatl? "Are you the new student I'm supposed to show around?" a friendly-sounding female voice asked. Camazotz looked around to see that another human female was talking to him. She was beautiful like Twilight. This girl had red and orange hair like lovely flowing flames. Her eyes were a brilliant turquoise color. She was wearing a black leather covering over a dark purple undershirt and a red skirt that hugged her legs and hips. Leather boots adorned the girl's feet. Camazotz could barely keep his eyes off her. "Yes. My name is Damien Chiroptera. It's a pleasure to meet you" Camazotz greeted with a bow. The girl responded by giggling. "Thanks. My name is Sunset Shimmer" "Shall we get going?" Damien asked. "Yeah. Let me show you around" Sunset said. After becoming familiar with the school's layout, Sunset and "Damien" arrived at the first class they apparently shared. It was the History class he was supposed to go to first. They both walked through the door to a class that had apparently not even started yet. Sunset made Damien stand in front of the class while the teacher, a kind-looking woman, had stood up. "Alright, everyone. I was just informed that we have a new student joining us today" the woman said pointing to Damien. "Please introduce yourself to the class" Camazotz stood confidently and put on his best human smile. "My name is Damien Chiroptera. It's quiet nice to meet you all. I hope we can all become good friends" The other student seemed to be happy with that. Damien got the feeling that he really would make friends among these humans. This was quite a lovely change of pace from his usual interaction with humans in the past. He used to either kill them or torture them. But the humans at this school all seem very friendly and welcoming. I think I'm going to like it here, Camazotz thought to himself. "You can sit in the back next to Twilight, Mr. Damien" the teacher said. Damien had almost his mind. Twilight was here? Now that he looked, he could see Twilight way in the back of the class with an empty seat right next to her. Damien had walked over and sat down right next to her. In order to appear as normal as possible, he tried to keep himself from smiling like an idiot. He was so excited. He was sitting right next to the subject of his desires on the very first day! Damien hoped all would be well if he played his cards right. For now, he's just a regular student. After Damien sat down, a group of girls were silently shocked. Lyra, Bon Bon, Octavia, and Vinyl all knew about him already. They had seen him in his true form. Fortunately, since class hadn't really started yet, the girls could communicate under the talking of everyone else around them. Lyra leaned in towards the others. "You all seeing the same thing I'm seeing?" Lyra whispered. "Yeah. It's that same bat creature from last night" Vinyl replied. "You think he has ill intentions?" Octavia asked. "I don't know if he has any. Still, we'd better investigate him. Just in case" Bon Bon said. The girls all agreed to, for the moment, keep their eyes on this creature. They'd let the Rainbooms know if something evil had come to Canterlot High. Damien, meanwhile, suddenly got an unpleasant shiver down his spine. He was struck with a sense of impending doom and he couldn't figure out why.
Chapter 1: Leaving XibalbaIn Xibalba, the Mayan Underworld Within this plane of suffering and fear, where the trees are twisted and thorny lifeless beams and the water is stagnant toxic slime, lies a high mountain with a vast network of caves and catacombs.
