“I’m sorry if I don’t seem like it, but I’m glad you are here.”
Sunset Shimmer turned and smiled. It was a brilliant, perfect smile and once again Wallflower Blush understood how the woman walking next to her down the sidewalk had been able to be so popular even after the fiery haired unicorn in a human body stopped bullying and manipulating an entire school as her personal plaything. She got better, as the story is told. Instead of dominating, she found a great circle of friends and rose to the top again by being a confident leader and good friend to all who needed one. That, of course, was a long time ago now. Seven years in fact, since they had all graduated from Canterlot High School. Oh, how time had flown by.
“Absolutely!" Sunset said without hesitation. "I think this is a great idea.”
Wallflower turned inward, rubbing her sleeve covered arm once again second guessing herself. “I’m not sure about that.”
“Hey,” Sunset stopped on the sidewalk, fully turning towards the green haired woman. They were still a half block from their destination. Wallflower stopped as well, her earthy brown eyes wide and filled with sudden worry and anxiety. Sunset smirked and offered her open hand. They were soft hands but were so much stronger than they appeared. In more ways than one. “This isn’t a blind date. We all graduated together and you two hit it off all on your own on that message board you said.”
“A social media group chat board about horticulture and the future of AI enabled hydroponic towers helping feed the world,” Wallflower said automatically. “We talked for hours about the possibilities and logistics before we realized we had gone to the same high school. Then, I realized who he was. He probably figured it out about the same time. It was kind of surreal. I broke out the senior yearbook too.”
“Exactly. You made a personal connection with someone on something you were both passionate about. And that was how long ago?”
“Three months ago.”
“I’m all for getting to know someone before jumping in head first, but it is definitely time for a real first date.” Sunset took Wallflower’s hand and began walking again. Despite her efforts, the light green skinned young woman blushed from the physical contact. “And a double date is a great first date because then no one feels pressured to do anything they are not ready for. Just four friends having dinner, swapping stories. Trust me. This is going to be great.”
“Easy for you to say, you already have a fiancé,” Wallflower grumbled. Sunset chose to ignore the quietly mumbled jab. She understood it was just nerves.
After graduating from high school, Wallflower Blush had attended college locally. She took a few classes at the community junior college before transferring to Canterlot University to obtain her science bachelor’s in botany. She immediately dove back in to graduate studies as soon as she had funding and was about to finish her master’s.
In that same time period, her friend Sunset Shimmer had moved across country to attend college with her best friend, Twilight Sparkle. Both had worked hard at their schooling and Sunset had earned a master’s in sound engineering and Twilight, amazingly, completed two doctorates. The pair had only recently returned to Canterlot City, both sporting matching engagement rings. What was more unexpected, was that that they were engaged to each other. When Wallflower had finally built up the courage to ask why they had come back after seeing more of the world Sunset had smiled and simply said, “Because this is home.”
Both Sunset and Twilight had immediately reached out to their friends to meet up whenever possible and Wallflower had been surprised and greatly pleased that she had not been forgotten once more. That led to conversations about asking a certain someone out and Sunset pounced on the idea of a double date. Sunset had instantly volunteered with helping get Wallflower Blush ready for her date. In her personal opinion, Sunset felt only Rarity probably could have done a better job had she been available.
After some back and forth, Wallflower had chosen to wear a floral pattern dress that was pretty, modest, and most important, comfortable. The sleeves went to the elbows, the rounded collar dipped to the top of her cleavage, but not too low, and the skirt was just past the knees. It hugged her soft curves without pinching, being scandalous, or unflattering. Sunset agreed, it said Wallflower Blush perfectly. Wallflower paired it with a set of strap sandals with a low heel that were practical and comfortable for a mild night out on the restaurant patio.
Sunset Shimmer, on the other hand, had no concerns with revealing. She went with a form fit red dress that had a deep V-neck plunge that Wallflower knew she had stared at for far longer than she probably should have. It hugged all her voluptuous curves and only covered half her toned thighs. Wallflower had never thought to question her sexual preference until Sunset had showed up at her door in such an ensemble. The former bully had always been beautiful, but time, a healthy diet, and regular exercise had filled out her form to one that would make most magazine models jealous.
Sunset sashayed her way up the small set of steps to the Mediterranean restaurant. Wallflower felt her mouth go dry as she watched Sunset's bottom flex back and forth, the fabric barely keeping from riding up over those cheeks. She knew she was blushing. From the doorway Sunset saw exactly who she was looking for. Twilight Sparkle had already arrived with the fourth member of their little outing. She smiled brightly and waved at Sunset causing the young man to turn as well.
He quickly stood and smoothed his dark blue suit jacket and red and grey stripped tie. He looked similar to when Wallflower had last seen him in video chat, just shaper and well groomed. Her phone screen had not been flattering in the least. His blue gray hair had been recently trimmed and parted to the left. In addition, he had traded out his large, black framed glasses with wire frames that were nearly invisible from a distance. The thin lenses brought out the lighter flecks of blue in his dark eyes she had not noticed before.
Wallflower smiled and waved nervously.
Micro Chips smiled as well and waved equally as awkwardly. Sunset had to admit, it was kind of adorable watching the two of them.
Sunset nudged Wallflower with her shoulder and said, “C’mon, in we go. I’m ready to do this thing.”
Sunset Shimmer made her way directly to the bespectacled woman at the table with eyes only for her. Twilight Sparkle was adorned in a sleeveless, dark burgundy dress with a cross strap around her neck and black knee high boots. Her hair was pinned up in a neat bun with amethyst topped chop sticks and matching earrings. Her wide, toothy smile was a reflection of Sunset’s own.
Twilight held out her hand and slipped it around to Sunset’s lower back pulling the taller woman in close. “There’s my Sunny Bun Yum. You were almost late.”
Sunset laughed and shook her head. “Oh, sweet Celestia. I think that is your worst one yet.”
“I’m not going to be happy until I come up with a suitable nickname for you.”
“Maybe one shorter than my real name perhaps?”
“Maaaaybe,” Twilight purred. Much to both Wallflower and Micro Chip’s surprise the two women locked lips right there in the middle of the restaurant. It was not a simple, greeting kiss. Both Sunset and Twilight closed their eyes and moaned into each other’s mouths, clearly swapping saliva in a bout of tongue wrestling. When they finally separated, they licked their lips and smiled lovingly at one another. Wallflower noticed a few onlookers. The other two did not seem to care.
“Wow,” said Micro Chips. “That was more PDA than I was expecting."
“Y-Yeah,” Wallflower added. Her eyes then met his. She could feel her face was as flush as his from the display. Then, her eyes noticed something else that was flush. The obvious bulging tent in his suit pants. While it was obscured by fabric, Wallflower could tell it was larger than she would have expected. She quickly sat in the closest chair at the four seat square and kept her eyes locked on the salt and pepper dispensers.
Sunset took the seat to Wallflower’s left with Twilight sitting to her left. Micro Chips then sat on Wallflower’s right. The waitress arrived a moment later and pass out the menus. As soon as she moved on Micro Chips leaned over and whispered to Wallflower, “You look absolutely lovely.”
Wallflower blushed again, her eyes flickered up to him then back down to her menu. “Um, thanks. You, you look very nice too. Nice and sharp. I can see your eyes better. You know, with the thinner glasses.”
“Thank you. The temples are carbon fiber and the lenses frames are titanium wire. They are light weight and very comfortable.”
“So,” said Sunset Shimmer after the conversation fizzled, “now that we are all here what I want to hear is more about this web page you two found each other on and how that is going?”
“Oh yes!” Twilight perked up with near manic glee. “Micro Chips stared talking about the technical side of using limited AI robots to help with hydroponic cultivation.”
Wallflower lifted her eyes once more and found warm dark orbs to her right waiting for her. Micro Chips smiled and gestured with his hand. “It was actually Wallflower’s idea. She's a visionary.”
The ice had been broken and the four of them fell into a comfortable back and forth rapport. It had been delightfully nostalgic retelling old stories from high school followed by a few newer stories from college. Seven years was not a long time, but long enough to feel the need to relive the simplicity of the past now that adulthood was firmly upon them.
Dinners had been chosen and consumed with joy and gusto. The restaurant had been chosen for its extensive vegetarian menus that Sunset and Wallflower both took advantage of. Twilight and Micro Chips partook in seafood dishes that did not disappoint. At some point, Twilight and Sunset began to hold hands on the table and both other guests kept constantly sneaking glances at the pair and their romantic displays all while never letting the conversations run stale. Wallflower felt a small pang of jealousy at how well Sunset and Twilight meshed. As if joining had been fated and it had only been a matter of time and circumstances for them to find one another. It was a silly thought, but at the same time, Wallflower could not deny how happy they were. She wanted to be that happy.
After the deserts had been finished Sunset and Twilight went to find the restroom before settling the check. Wallflower had no doubt it was an intentional setup to force her and MC (as he seemed to prefer to be called among close friends) to have a few minutes to themselves.
“Soooo, this was nice.”
Wallflower smiled and, though hesitating for only a moment, reached out and placed her hand on top of his next to an empty dish that once held chocolate crème pie. He had shared a bite with her. It had been delicious. “This was nice. I… I really enjoyed getting out and spending time with you. I feel more relaxed than I was expecting.”
“You and Sunset seemed to really get along.”
Wallflower was not sure if he was implying anything, but he had not been the only one noticing how their fellows kept pulling them into side conversations. “You and Twilight spoke nearly as much as you and I did.”
Micro Chips rubbed his neck and smirked sheepishly. “She’s incredibly intelligent. I admire that. She wants to not just work in science and technology, but eventually run her own company. That is no small task or ambition. I have a lot of respect for her as a scientist and inventor and I meant it when I said I wouldn’t mind working for her someday.”
Wallflower arched an eyebrow. “You mean like how she said, ‘I would be very happy with you directly under me.’”
Micro Chips laughed nervously again, finding a spot on the wall to advert his eyes to. “Yeeeeah, that was…”
“It’s okay, Sunset kept leaning forward towards me when she wanted to talk and all I could see was straight down the top of her dress. I swear she was doing it on purpose. Now I understand what people mean when they say someone is undressing them with their eyes.”
“Those two are something else.”
Wallflower nodded. She did not know what all of it added up to. She had only been on a handful of dates since high school and that included college years. None of them had gone anywhere and the only one of them she had even bothered to call her boyfriend had ended after only two months. He had been nice and did not pressure her into intimacy she was not comfortable with, but that may have also been why he lost interest in her. He stopped returning her messages so she would never know. Even with that limited experience and what she knew about most people their age the implications of what was unfolding were… not entirely unpleasant.
Wallflower never found other women attractive, not sexually as least. Even through college, which popular entertainment said was supposed to be her ‘experimental’ age. Then, Sunset Shimmer walked back into her life and gladly wanted to be friends again. How could she say no to a good friend like that?
They had both filled out, no longer just being skinny, young girls on the cusps of what lay ahead. Wallflower was not upset with her proportions. “Soooo,” Wallflower said, wringing her hands as her shy anxiety began to get the better of her. It was easy to talk to others from the safety of a computer or in a group where she could hide in the back. Judging by how Micro Chips was starting to do the same he was probably thinking of the same questions. “I’m not really good at dating. As you may have guessed. I am not sure what we are supposed to do now?”
“Did… do you have a good time?”
The question was an important one and considering how nervous he sounded, her answer carried a great deal of weight to how much it would help or damage his confidence. Wallflower smiled at him, really taking a moment to examine the young man now that the two of them were standing next to the table waiting for the other women to return.
MC had been as skinny as she had in high school. Maybe even more so. He had spent all his spare time in either the computer lab or robotics workshop. The heaviest thing he had likely lifted in terms of weight had probably been a few power tools. The suit, which appeared nearly off the shelf brand new, did not give her much in the way of clues to what was beneath, but she could tell he was no longer rail thin. A boy he was not. Perhaps he did some light exercise?
Without a second thought, Wallflower’s eyes once again glanced down to the seam of MC’s pants. The bulge was not trying to break free as before, but there was still a noticeable contour. Whatever he had down there it was enough to break the flat plane of his pants. That thought made Wallflower blush once more and her mouth water. Sunset smiled and laughed. It was such an infectious laugh and Wallflower felt her heart skip at the sound of it. “I get that. I lose Twi for hours at a time some nights. Sounds like you need a brilliant nerdy friend to help you stay on task too.”
“Well, I mean, that’s presumptuous. People should not need others, just wants. Needs are necessities like food and shelter.”
The four exited the restaurant and found themselves in the evening air. The sky was dark, but the city lights obscured the stars, much to Twilight’s usual disappointment. Wallflower could not believe how late it had gotten. Had they really been talking the night away for that many hours?
Sunset glanced to Twilight, a smirk on her face. Twilight shared the smirk and nodded. It was clearly a silent conversation and the two had come to some sort of consensus. Micro Chips glanced to Wallflower who flashed an awkward smile and shrugged.
“MC,” Twilight began, her hands clasped together and her smile bright, “I really want to continue our earlier conversation we had about how etched synthetic crystal cores could be the future to quantum storage drives.”
“And I want to hear more about your master’s program and if you are planning to go on for a doctorate,” said Sunset to Wallflower. “If you two are up for it we’d love you to come to the hotel we have and we can continue the evening over drinks. If not, it’s all good and we can call it an evening.”
MC looked at Wallflower and she at him. He had never been in a situation like this. Sure, long nights with friends talking tech, playing games, he had done that. Long nights chatting and sharing drinks with three beautiful women? That sort of thing just did not happen to guys like him. Not in reality at least. Even if his imagination was getting away from him, he already had a wonderful time and he did like spending time with Wallflower Blush. Spending longer with her and a brilliant mind like Twilight Sparkle. How could he say no?
“I’m not tired and could go longer,” Micro Chips finally said with a smile and a shrug.
Wallflower narrowed her eyes at the engaged couple. She was trying not to be suspicious, but she did not think anything ill could come from a few drinks and more talking. Plus, MC would be there. She trusted Sunset Shimmer who continued to smile at her. Everything would be fine.
“Sure, I’m in.” The words left Wallflower’s mouth and Twilight happily took Sunset’s hand and led on. It was only after they had reached the hotel room a few minutes later that a thought occurred to her. They had an apartment. Why did they need a hotel room for the evening?
Once inside, Wallflower scanned the room. For a moment she wondered if Pinkie Pie was going to pop out of the closet and scream, “PARTY TIME!” But it did not happen. It was just a nice suite. Two queen beds, two couches for sitting at, a mini bar, and a TV they were not likely to use. Wallflower turned back to the others and shrugged.
“You should hear the story about when Twilight tried her first cheap beer,” said Sunset with a wicked smile as she went to the mini bar and refrigerator. Twilight groaned and shook her head.
“Really, Sunset?”
“C’mon! It’s a funny story! Your face was priceless!”
Micro Chips took one of the wine coolers from the fridge, examined it, then took a few sips. He nodded approvingly. Wallflower relaxed and took one as well. The pair settled in on the couches to hear more stories.
Another hour passed. Wallflower found herself cuddled up next to Micro Chips, his hand in hers on her thigh. Directly across from them were Twilight and Sunset, also cuddled up and holding hands. There were a number of empty bottles and glasses that had once contained mixed drinks. The latest story concluded and the silence lingered. Twilight turned to Sunset, their eyes locked for several heartbeats. Twilight finally nodded.
“This has been fun,” Sunset said, breaking the silence, “but we have a confession to make.”
Wallflower perked up. MC shifted a bit and straightened his glasses as they had started to slip down his nose.
“This will take a bit of explaining, but before you say anything all we ask is you hear us out.”
Both Wallflower and MC nodded for the couple to continue.
“Let me start first,” Sunset said. Wallflower noticed how the woman in the small red dress shifted, she bit her lip nervously, and even blushed a bit. That was unusual behavior. “I love Twilight Sparkle. I know you didn’t need to hear that. You’ve seen the rings, heard some of the stories, and we told you how you are both invited to the wedding, but before we tie the knot, as the saying goes, we… we were hoping to do something we had talked about, but never tried before. One last hurrah of wild behavior before all we have time for is work, bills, and, very likely, building a family.”
“I’m… not entirely sure I follow,” said Micro Chips. Wallflower nodded as well.
“Twilight squeezed Sunset’s hand and then adjusted her glasses with her free hand. “We were wondering if you two would like to have sex with us.”
Those words hung in the air.
“Pardon?”
Wallflower’s eyes were wide, jaw hanging as her heartrate spiked. Did she really just say that?
“MC,” Twilight started again, “I always liked you. I, in fact, had a pretty big crush on you even when I was dating Timber. You are so smart, and witty, and honestly, if you have asked me, I probably would have gone on a date with you at the end of senior year. It wasn’t until after Timber and I broke up and Sunset and I became more than friends at college did I realize how much I had longed and wondered what it would have been like to have a night with MC Dex Effex. Mirco Chips blushed and laughed a bit nervously, rubbing his neck to find it slightly sweaty. Wallflower blinked several more times before her eyes locked with Sunset Shimmer’s. She suddenly felt like she had just been entranced and unable to look away.
“Wallflower,” Sunset said, a slight quaver to her husky voice, “I know we didn’t have a great start and several huge misunderstandings, but once we reached an understanding, I was so happy to call you my friend. You are an amazing, intelligent, beautiful young woman. You are the hidden perfect rose at the center of a maze garden that only a few get a chance to see for real. And, I have to admit, I crushed on you more than a little bit when I came to help you at the garden club back in the day.”
“R-Really? I mean… wow,” said Wallflower before she shook her head. “But why are you telling me, telling us this now? You two are going to be married in a few months. Was this entire double date just a ruse to get in our pants? Well, his pants. My skirt, upskirt… you know what I mean!” Twilight winced at Wallflower’s tone and Sunset dropped her eyes.
“I think I would like an explanation as well before I get up and walk out that door. There is a lot to unpack here,” said Micro Chips.
“We really do think you two are great together and we do hope you see that as well. But Twi and I have known you two for a while now. We know that you both will not take the first step without some help. Like two passing ships that see each other over and over again upon the sea and wave, but never come together. So, Twilight and I talked about it. We debated it, even made charts.”
“Mostly pros/cons charts, a few theoretical risks versus benefits. That sort of thing.”
Sunset nuzzled Twilight and the purple woman smiled and giggled. “The point is, if you two want to walk out and pretend this conversation never happened, then it never happened and we all just go about our days. However, if you want to try something a little daring while exploring your own intimacy together, well, we’d like to help and of course join in. I know you’ve never had penetration sex, Wallflower.”
Wallflower blushed profusely and began to sputter a bit. “S-Sunset! You can’t just say that out loud! I mean… seriously?!”
“Am I wrong?”

He found a spot on the wall incredibly interesting. Wallflower glanced down and found that he was still holding her hand. Then, she noticed that his pants were tenting again. She could feel her heart racing, hear it pounding in her own ears like a pounding drum. Wallflower turned back to Sunset Shimmer, who smiled casually, disarmingly. She was trying to convey to her friend that she would remain her friend no matter what happened next.
Wallflower felt her heart flutter and the heat between her legs intensify. Much like MC had said earlier. This sort of thing just did not happen to plain girls like her. “How, I mean, what makes you think I want to have s-sex with another woman?” Wallflower had tried to sound defiant, even offended. Instead, it came out barely above a whisper and would not have scared a mouse.
Sunset chuckled, her half lidded eyes turned first to Twilight, then back to Wallflower and she felt that tingle in her chest again. “Probably because I’ve caught you staring at me a little too long more than once. Did you forget about that time I dropped the pruning shears in the greenhouse and they went waaaay up under the table? I was on all fours for like two minutes and when I crawled out you were just standing there, your knees were shaking, and, much like now, you were blushing like crazy. Not to pad my own ego, but I know I’m attractive. I’ve gotten used to eyes on me. But I always notice them. Including yours.”

Wallflower shudder from the confession. She picked up her last drink, which still had half a peach flavored wine cooler in it and she downed it in a few gulps. The bottle was returned to the table and the green skinned woman brushed the hair from her face that had fallen free. Wallflower took one last deep breath and turned to Micro Chips. He looked down to her left hand that was still on his crotch then dared to lean in. Wallflower’s lips met him halfway.
She had never kissed someone with glasses before. It made things a little tricky, but Wallflower pressed further, deeper. Slowly, she opened her mouth a little wider and MC took the invitation and pressed his tongue forward. Wallflower met the wiggly appendage with her own. Twilight rolled her eyes at Sunset’s statement. She stood and took Sunset’s hand, leading her fiancé over to the one bed. Twilight pressed her lips to Sunset’s with expert glee. Her hands found Sunset’s earrings, necklace, and bracelets and placed them on the nightstand all while maintaining lip lock. Sunset took a moment step out of the discarded clothes before reaching behind Twilight’s neck and freeing the clasp on her own dress, letting it fall to the ground. Next, her indigo and pink striped hair was released and cascaded down her back. Twilight removed her glasses and extracted a case of contact lenses from her small purse. A few blinks later, she could see once more without her preferred frames getting in the way. Sunset leaned in and kissed her fiancé again. Both women, clad in only bras and panties, turned back to the other two still on the couch having apparently not noticed the pair undress one another.
“Shall we?” asked Sunset with a waggle of her eyebrow.
“We shall.”

Sunset had taken a similar position behind Wallflower. The pair broke their kiss at the sudden and unexpected contact from the other two women. Wallflower turned and found her face directly in Sunset’s barely contained, goldenrod cleavage.

Not surprising, Wallflower hesitated, turning back to Micro Chips, whose eyes went from wide to starting to roll back in his head from Twilight’s kisses and nibbles. “It’s okay, we can go slow. “No, I… I want to…” Wallflower visibly gulped and shuddered. “Will you undress me?”
Sunset smirked. “You bet.”
