Crossing around the counter and kneeling in front of her, he presented her key. “I wish we had a theater here. The last time I saw a movie was when I visited the Crystal Empire.”
“My son used to live there,” she grumbled, “back when he was the Royal Crystaller for Princess Cadance and Prince Shining Armor. I can understand him wishing to teach, but I seriously hope he understands what he gave up by moving here - n…not that there’s anything wrong with Ponyville.”
“Nah -” Anon chuckled, dismissively waving a hand, “you’re fine, trust me. I know this place isn’t all that exciting.” Pushing himself up, he spotted and nodded at her luggage. “Want me to carry that for you?”
She shook her head and ignited her horn, surrounding the suitcase’s handle with a chartreuse aura. “I can handle it. While I appreciate the offer, I’m hardly that old.”
“Never said you were -” he replied, the smile on his face replaced by one of genuine warmth, “actually, before you’d mentioned having a son, I wouldn’t have pegged you for a mother at all.”
“Oh stop it,” she tittered. Shifting to face him, keeping her luggage suspended at her side, she extended a foreleg. “By the way, the name’s Stellar Flare.”
“Anon,” he hummed, squatting down to shake her hoof. “But you probably already knew that.”

“I’m sure I’ll be fine,” she cut him off, wheeling around and making for the stairwell. “Is it alright if I pay you after I unpack? My purse is in my suitcase.”

“Coffee would be heavenly,” she yawned, awkwardly hopping up and into one of the human-sized seats at his kitchen table. “Need any help?”
Shaking his head, leaving the final flapjack to finish cooking, he retrieved a mug from his cupboard and filled it with java. “Don’t sweat it. “Please,” she giggled, “call me Stellar.”
After they shook on the arrangement, they chatted for a bit, finished their breakfast, and she set off for her begrudging adventure. Thinking for a moment, he squatted down to face her. “You any good at bowling?”
“Oh heavens no,” she groaned, “but I am quite good at cards.”
He reached out and softly patted her shoulder, as a smile crept across his face. “Well it sounds like we have a plan. What do you want on your pizza?”
“Whatever suits your fancy, so long as it’s not anchovies - bleh,” she theatrically retched, sticking her tongue out.
“Alright, you hold down the fort for me,” he instructed, standing and making for the exit. “It shouldn’t take me longer than twenty minutes or so to get the grub. If anyone comes in while I’m out, just tell them I’ll be right back.”
