Applebloom and the Spider

One Spider, One Pony

Applebloom sat on Granny's rocking chair and calmly read a book.

Applejack, Big Mac, and Granny Smith went to a local apple convention in Ponyvile, where ponies from all around Equestria would show off their apples. And of course, Applejack and the others wouldn't miss it. Of course, Applebloom wanted to come too, but she decided to stay at the farm to make sure that things don't go haywire while they were gone.

After reading a long chapter from the book, she closed it up and set it down on a nearby table, and headed up to her room for a nap.

As she entered inside, she saw something brown with a strange red dot at the corner. Curious, she looked closer, and jumped in horror when she saw what it was.

"Spider!" Applebloom shrieked in terror. And this wasn't a small spider, oh no. It was big and of course, disgusting.

Applebloom still shivered in fear. She was deeply afraid of spiders. However, she can kill little ones just fine, but big ones are a different story.

When it came to big spiders, Applebloom would either call Applejack, Big Mac, or Granny to come and kill it for her, but she was all alone in the farm. No one would help her.

But Applebloom straightened herself. She was a big filly now, and she has to learn how to kill a big spider at some point if she is going to grow up and be alone in the barn, like now.

She immediately ran downstairs and grabbed a broom that was in the kitchen, and ran upstairs.

She dropped the broom when she realized that the spider vanished. She desperately looked around for it, but eventually found it on the wall.

Applebloom grabbed the broom, ready to attack it. But fear overtook her and dropped it. What if she missed? What if the spider crawled on the broom?

"Stop it!" Applebloom yelled at herself. "I can kill a spider just fine!"

But she didn't believe that.

She stared at the spider for a good five minutes, still scared to move. It wasn't until it crawled on the floor was when she started to really panic.

"I need to kill it!" Applebloom grabbed the broom again and was in a position to kill the spider, but she still didn't move.

What is wrong with me? Applebloom asked herself in anger.

She then set the broom down in defeat. If she didn't have the courage to kill a spider, she could at least trap it so it doesn't escape.

She ran downstairs and grabbed a bucket she got outside and when she came back upstairs, she sighed in relief that it didn't move.

"I'm going to trap you now." Applebloom said through chattering teeth. "And once the others get home, they will be the ones to end your life."

She tipped the bucket upside down and had it above the spider, ready to trap. But then Applebloom doubted herself once more. What if it crawled away before she could do it? What if if crushed the spider instead?

Applebloom shivered in disgust when she imagined its decapitated head and its front legs sprawled on the floor.

She shook her head, realizing how stupid it sounded. "I'm acting useless!"

She looked aside the bowl and gasped when she saw it gone. She was too focused on her fears that she didn't notice it missing.

She looked around for it, but eventually found it on her blanket.

Gasping in terror, she grabbed her pillow and without hesitation, smacked the spider over and over.

After she was done, she saw the spider's dead body on the blanket.

"Aha!" Applebloom shouted proudly. "I told you I could do it!" she said to herself. It only took her an hour to kill it but she didn't care.

But then she realized she had to do the gross part.

She grabbed a napkin from the kitchen and grabbed the spider with it, much to Applebloom's disgust. She carried it outside and buried the napkin on the ground, far away from the farm.

The deed is done.

Finally, Applebloom can finally take a nap when she should've done it an hour ago.

Getting under her covers, and fluffed up her pillow and drifted off to sleep.

...

This side of the pillow has stained spider guts on it.

After the convention, the rest of the apple family came home.

Just then, Applejack appeared at the kitchen.

"We're back Applebloom, we can't wait to tell you about-" she stopped when she saw Applebloom excessively wash her pillow case with soap and water.

"Um, everything ok?"

Applebloom looked up. "Oh, after I wash this seven times, then yes."

Just then Granny showed up. "It doesn't take much to wash a pillow case, dearie."

"Oh I know." Applebloom smiled. "But this is just to wash the bad memory away."

Applejack and Granny looked at her confused.

"Its just, I had to kill a spider recently and I was too scared to kill it." Applebloom said eventually.

"But you were fine killing those tiny spiders." Applejack said.

"Small spiders are fine, but this one was big. And you know that I hate big spiders." Applebloom shuddered as she remembered the spider she encountered hours before.

"If you didn't want to kill it, you should've trapped it so we could kill it for you later." Granny put in.

"Yeah but I was too scared to do that too." Applebloom's ears drooped in shame.

"Oh trust me, we all hate spiders." Applejack comforted his sister, with Granny nodding beside her. "But we just need to have enough courage to kill them, even if its hard to find it."

"But what if that courage never comes?" Applebloom asked to his sister.

"Well, you can always ask Fluttershy for a spider problem, but she won't be around forever, you know." Applejack responded. "But I know you can do it."

Applebloom smiled. "Thanks Applejack."

Just then she heard a knock on the barn door.

Applejack opened the door and saw Fluttershy.

"Hey Fluttershy!" Applejack greeted. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I was just looking for a spider named Harry. He escaped hours ago and I couldn't find him."

"What did he look like?" Granny stepped in.

"Big, brown, and has a red dot on his body." Fluttershy explained. "And I was wondering if any of you saw him."

Applebloom, Granny, and Applejack both looked at each other in alarm, then turned to Fluttershy with a fake smile.

"Nope!" They said together and they slammed the door shut.
