Council of Friendship No. 1
One Night for Fun
Load Full StoryTwilight signed her last contract and looked out the window. It was a bit after noon, but not yet evening. “Well, Spike, our friends should be joining us sometime soon.”
“Woo-hoo!” Spike cheered. “Now I have somepony other than Twilight to talk to!”
His eyes widened. “Heh, no offense, Twi.”
Twilight lifted one eyebrow up at Spike. Hearing the door open, Twilight turned around to see Fluttershy walking through the door, followed by three Discords. One was wearing a business suit, one was wearing pajama pants with rubber ducks and half a shirt, and the other one, which Twilight assumed was the real one, wasn’t wearing anything.
“I hope you don’t mind that I brought Discord along with me,” Fluttershy said. “I thought he might be able to add a bit of fun to our first meeting.”
Twilight opened her mouth to say something, but was interrupted by Pinkie Pie hopping through the doorway with specks of confetti in her hair. “Don’t call it a meeting, Fluttershy. Meetings are when ponies meet up to talk about boring plans. Councils, on the other hoof-”
Spike gasped in horror. “Pinkie Pie! You’re leaving a trail of confetti on the floor we just cleaned up!”
Everyone laughed, including two more mares who were at the door. “Come in, you two,” Twilight said to Applejack and Rainbow Dash as she levitated the confetti and put it in the trash.
“Sorry if we’re late,” Applejack apologized. “I was doing my chores, and then Rainbow-”
“Decided to help somepony,” Rainbow Dash finished for her. “But she was too stubborn to accept my help, so she and I ended up being late.”
“Actually, you did the chores wrong,” argued Applejack.
“No, I-” Rainbow was stuck in the air in a magic levitation spell. Rainbow stole a glimpse at Applejack and saw that she was also floating.
They were set down, and the turquoise magic faded. “Rainbow, Applejack, you know that we came here for one night. To be friends. Not the opposite, right?” asked Starlight.
They both chuckled sheepishly as Rarity walked in with a pin cushion around her hoof. “I’ve just finished finding a location for the creatures’ boutique!” she squealed.
Twilight giggled behind her hoof and led them all to a table with 11 chairs. Everyone sat down, and Twilight started speaking. “As you know, today-”
“Oh, COME ON Twilight!” Pinkie whined. “This sounds like a boring meeting.”
“Okay, Pinkie. What do you want to do?” Twilight asked.
Pinkie Pie hit a pretend buzzer. “The answer is… go on a tour of Canterlot!”
Twilight looked around at the others for their approval, but they weren’t paying attention. Only Applejack and Spike were paying attention, and Applejack said, “Eyup.” Spike nodded as well.
But Rainbow Dash was doing wing-ups, Starlight was grading papers, Rarity was drawing something, Discord was gone, and Fluttershy was looking for him.
“Girls,” Twilight said. “I know you’re all busy with your own things. But tonight is a special night that will-”
“Be postponed if I don’t get back to the School of Friendship and take the students on their field trip? Yes!” Starlight shouted, teleporting out of the room and dropping all her papers. A few moments later, she came back, giggling nervously and taking her papers with her, this time.
“As I was saying, tonight is special because we get to see each other. Remember, this only gets to happen once every moon,” Twilight said.
“Yeah,” said Rainbow Dash. “As does the Wonderbolts’ Jump Start Race!” Rainbow Dash started to fly away, but Applejack caught her by the tail.
“Rainbow Dash, we are not going to ruin Twilight’s first decree as the Princess of Equestria!” she confronted her.
Rainbow Dash stuttered. “Yeah, but, Starlight did, too!” she retorted.
“Because that field trip had been planned for so long, she couldn’t disappoint the students! And unless your race is happening right now, then you can come back and join us,” Applejack argued.
Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes and sat down. Rarity made her sketchbook vanish and looked at the others. “I’m looking forward to that tour, darling,” she said.
“Yes, Twilight. If you’re ready, then we are too,” added Fluttershy.
“Great!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed. “Let’s get going!” And with that, she zoomed out of the castle as if she was the one leading the tour.
“Pinkie!” Twilight called. “I’ll be the one showing you around tonight.”
Pinkie Pie zoomed backwards. “Yeah,” she said, then chuckled.
“And of course, Restaurant Road,” Twilight pointed out.
“Ooh, ooh!” squealed Pinkie Pie. “Can we go visit Saffron and Coriander? Maybe stop by for some food? They have such flavorful delicacies…” she trailed off.
“I would like to see them again,” Rarity added.
Twilight looked between her friends. “Then it’s settled. We’ll eat some dinner at the Tasty Treat, and then have some more fun,” she declared, smiling.
They walked into the restaurant, Pinkie looking around at all the customers. Rarity noticed that there was now a three-hoof rating on the shop. I wonder where that came from, she wondered.
Pinkie closed her eyes and sniffed all the wondrous smells inside the Tasty Treat. She didn’t notice Saffron Masala until she bumped into her, causing her to spill dumplings and sauce all over Pinkie.
Pinkie used her tongue to lick herself clean, and let out a satisfied “Mmm!” when finished. Twilight laughed. “How much, Saffron?”
Saffron bowed. “You don’t have to pay for that. It’s free for you, and for them too,” she contended, pointing at a group of four mares. “I’ll just cook a replacement for them, and you can find a seat and choose your order.”
“Wait,” Rarity called out. Saffron looked back. “Who gave you the rating I saw on your sign?” she asked.
“Oh, that was Twilight. Ever since you came and helped us with our restaurant, Zesty’s popularity has been decreasing. I asked Twilight to rate some of the shops on restaurant road, so she’s been doing that for a while.”
Twilight looked at her friends. “Will you excuse me?” she said, trotting over to the unicorns. One of them turned and waved.
“Hey, Twilight!” Minuette exclaimed.
Moondancer motioned for her to come over. “You can join us, if you want.”
“Hi, girls! I was just stopping by your table to say hi. My friends from Ponyville are over tonight, so I’m having dinner with them tonight,” Twilight clarified.
“Oh,” Twinkleshine said, her ears drooping. “But you can spend time with us some other time, right?”
Twilight nodded. “Now that I live in Canterlot, I’ll be seeing you guys more often. How about you come to the castle in a few days?”
They all cheered, and Twilight walked over to her Ponyville friends who had saved her a seat. Coriander Cumin came over and served them their food, which they all heartily enjoyed. After Twilight paid, they left. “Who wants to have fun at the trampoline park?” she asked.
Fluttershy covered her face with her wing, and Rarity sketched something else, but everyone else seemed okay with the idea.
“You two can go home if you’d like. After the park we’re going to call it a night,” Twilight said.
Twilight’s friends looked at each other, and then shook their heads simultaneously. Twilight shrugged and then teleported them to the trampoline park.
They had fun, and Twilight headed back to the castle, walking on her own as her friends rushed to the train station.
“Surprise!” her friends yelled as she walked into her room.
“What are you all doing here?” Twilight asked.
“Well, we wanted to stay with you just a bit longer,” Fluttershy explained.
“Even I had a little time for fun,” Starlight said.
“You don’t mind if we have a slumber party here, do you?” Applejack asked.
Twilight smiled. “Of course not. But maybe we should have it back in Ponyville. I want to visit my old hometown, you know.”
Her friends talked over each other with excitement as Twilight teleported them into her Ponyville castle, where they had their slumber party.
“I should be going back to Canterlot soon,” Twilight said as they were walking over to Applejack’s barn so that Pinkie and Twilight could gather apples for the Gala. “Sometime soon I ha-”
Twilight was interrupted by a few loud thuds. They all turned around to see a giant turtle eating the Apple family’s tree and screamed. Fluttershy flew by the tortoise and asked him a few questions.
“Sorry, everypony. I guess he was hungry,” Fluttershy sheepishly explained.
“How are we going to stop him?” asked Applejack.
